I spent the next few hours with Jessica.  We baked chocolate chip cookies for a tea party, and Jessica towed me up the stairs to her room.

It was the little girl stereotypical room, with pink walls, a bed with beauty and the beast covers and a pink canopy.  She had a whole wall covered in stuffed animals of all sorts, from dogs and cats to a koala bear and a snake.  The doors were all a light purple and the switch plate covers, too.

We sat down at a small round table in the middle of the room with a plate of our cookies, and the tea I had made out of apple juice.  I taught her how to talk like a fancy stuck up snob, and the whole tea party we did.

I might sound a little crazy, considering that I’ve been kidnapped by a bunch of psycho werewolves, and am playing tea party with one of their daughters, but I’ve always had a sweet spot for adorable little kids.  I love playing with them, making them smile, and just watching them.  Before I worked at the store, I made all my money through babysitting neighborhood kids.

When I was growing up, I had all these dreams of growing up and going to college.  I always thought I would meet a nice there and get married, just like my parents.  I of course, wanted a lot of kids, and a husband who would kiss me every night when he got home from work.  Of course I gave up that dream when Cody-

“Would you like more tea?”  I smiled when I noticed Jessica holding up her tea pot, and I raised my tea cup.

“That would be fabulous, Darling.”

I got to study her face for the first time just then.  She had dark hair in pigtail braids, and a slightly tanned complexion, probably from spending so much time outside.  Her eyes were green, though, and I frowned when I realized that they were the same eyes as Kyle’s.

What a poor little girl, having to grow up with such a crazy family.

After our tea was gone, and we had gobbled all our cookies, her mom came in and was a bit shocked to see me sitting at Jessica’s tea table.  She pulled herself together and came in closer to us.  “I see you’ve met Jessica, Elaine.”

Jessica smiled and told her all about our afternoon together.  When she was done, Mrs. Wolf looked at her watch and said, “You know what time it is, Jessica?  It’s four o’clock.  Time for your nap.”

Jessica frowned.  “But I want to play with Elaine!”

“Well, maybe if you’ll go get in your bed right now, Elaine will read you a book.  Would you be okay with that?”

She sighed and ran to her bed.  “I guess.”  Mrs. Wolf left and so I asked Jessica what book she wanted me to read.  Her face brightened as she yelled, “Cinderella!”

I found the book on the bookshelf and went to sit on the side of the bed.  “Do you like Cinderella?”

“Yeah.”

I smiled and opened the book to the first page.  “Once upon a time, there was a young, beautiful girl, named Cinderella…”  I glanced at her every once in a while, and by the time the book was over, her eyes were closed, so I whispered the last sentence.  “And they lived happily ever after.”

I set the book down gently and tiptoed out of the room, thinking she was asleep.  When I opened the door, Jessica whispered to me, “Elaine, are you and Kyle gonna get married like Cinderella and the prince?”

I was a little shocked at that.  I turned around to see her eyes still closed, but she was waiting for an answer.  But how could I tell her I hate her brother, and there would be no chance of us ever getting married.

I decided to go the easy route and avoid the question.  “Sweety, you can call me Lainey.”

And with that I quickly dodged out of the room before she could ask me again.  I went downstairs and saw Mrs. Wolf leaving the kitchen with a purse and car keys, heading in the way of the front door.

Before I knew what I was doing, I was in front of her.  “Um, I thought I’d make sure it’s okay that I took this room right here.”  She nodded and I continued.  “So where are you going?”

“Oh, I’m just running off to the store to get some milk and eggs and stuff like that.  Do you need anything?  Clothes, a swimsuit, any special food requests?  The store closes in two hours, and it’s thirty minutes away, so I’m in a bit of a rush, so why don’t you just call me on my cell phone if you think of anything?  Kyle has the number.”

“Um, why don’t I just come with you? I could find clothes for myself while you find food?”  This was my chance to get out of here, and all I could do was hope she would agree to it.

She studied me, and I could tell she guessed what I was thinking, but after a moment she nodded.  “Okay, I suppose that would be best.  Come on, let’s run!”

I ran into my room really fast to get my phone and put it in my “feminine pocket” as my mother always called it.  It was unnoticeable, and if it was, I doubted Mrs. Wolf would put her hand down my bra to get it.

We drove off to a local general store and arrived after a half an hour of long awkward silence.  When we got there we went inside together and she pointed me in the direction of the clothes.  I went over and looked around for a minute.  When I was sure she was out of sight, I ran.  I ran to the door, I ran through the large parking lot, and I just kept running.  I finally got to an almost busy street and tried to get a car to stop.  Any car.

After about fifteen minutes, a car with darkly tinted windows stopped and I ran over to get in.  I was too busy thanking the man in the driver’s seat as I buckled into the seat belt, that I didn’t even realize who it was.  “Thank you so much!  I just need to go to a bus station or something that will send me to Maryland.  You would not believe the day I’ve had!”

I heard chuckling and the man next to me responded, “Actually, I think I would.”  I looked over and mentally killed myself, brought myself back to life, and killed myself again.  “Kyle, why are you doing this to me?  Just let me go home!  I’ll stay at Katie’s house, but you have to let me go home eventually!”

“Look, Lainey, I’m sorry, but I can’t.  He made a sharp u-turn and we were headed straight for his house.  I was so mad at myself I didn’t even yell at him for calling me Lainey.

We came to a road that was surrounded by a bunch of tall grass.  A plan quickly formed in my mind, and within thirty seconds I unbuckled my seatbelt and opened the car door as fast as I could.  Kyle was too shocked to do anything as a rolled out of the moving vehicle.

I tumbled out and was surprised when I didn’t have any serious injuries.  Of course I hurt all over, but I could still run.  I was running as fast as I could, waving at the cars that passed.  I looked down at the distance where Kyle’s car was, and saw it take another quick u-turn.

I panicked as I waved at car after car and after about ten seconds, when Kyle’s car was just less than forty feet away, a Toyota Tundra pulled over and the man in the driver’s seat motioned me in.  I opened the door and climbed in, thanking him for stopping.  I looked at Kyle’s car and saw his face.  He looked like he could kill me.

“Where to, pretty lady?”  He had a southern accent that I almost laughed at.  It was so strong it sounded almost fake.

“Uh, I would say a bus station, but I think the police would be better.  And you might want to step on it.  That psycho in the black car right there is after me.  Don’t ask me why, because I have no idea.”

“Gotcha, honey.”  I looked at him with grateful eyes, even if they were annoyed that he was calling me Honey.  He looked to be about twenty-five and he had sandy blond hair.  For  while I was worried I had gotten into a creeper rapist’s car, but there was something in the way he smiled so brightly, that made me feel safe for once that day.

“So what’s your name?  I’m Elaine.”

“Trevor Macintyre, from down south in Georgia.”

I smiled and then to start conversation, I replied, “Really?  My grandparents live in Georgia.  I don’t remember where though.”

We had a short conversation for about five minutes before he stopped in a parking lot and announced, “Here we are, Elaine.  Say, if you ever want to have a party with a southern friend, call me up.”  He wriggled his eyebrows as if to say he meant more than playing pin the tail on the donkey.  I tried to mask my disgust, because after all, he was sort of my savior, and I owed him my life.

I started walking up the steps to the police department when a black car in the corner of my eye caught my attention.  I ran as fast as I could up the stairs and got through the doors before I saw him stop his car in the middle of the parking lot and run out.

I was so scared that he would catch me again, so I did the only logical thing I could: I screamed.  “Help!”  I ran to the desk where a middle aged man sat at a computer.  “There is a crazy man right behind me!  He kidnapped me and brought me here to Wherever-We-Are Virginia, and all I’ve been trying to do all day is escape!  And now I have and he’s right behind me!”  I heard the doors open and Kyle yelling at me.

“Elaine!  What the Hell are you doing?  Are you drunk again?”

I looked back at him with pure confusion.  “What are you talking about?  I’ve never gotten drunk in my life!”  It was true.  At parties I get a little tipsy, but never so drunk I can’t control myself.

He was walking towards me and grabbed my arm, trying to pull me away.  “I’m so sorry, officers.  My wife gets a little crazy when she’s had a little too much to drink.  I’ll just be taking her home.”

I tried to break free from his grasp but he was to strong.  “I’m not drunk!  And what do you mean, wife?  I’m nineteen!  Get that?  I’m nineteen!  Now let go of me!”

The police officer finally stepped in.  “Sir, she had quite a story, and I can’t let you take her unless she takes some tests and we know she really is drunk.  Now if you both will step back here-“

He was suddenly cut off by Kyle punching him in the face so hard he lost consciousness.  I was so shocked that I couldn’t do anything but stand there, helpless.

Two more cops came at him with guns and he took them both down in a few seconds.  One cop took him down with a taser, but he just got right back up after a few seconds and knocked her out, too.  Within a few minutes, Kyle had taken on the whole police force in that building.

He grabbed my arm and pulled me towards the door and I remembered about the fear I had had for my life before Kyle came in.

Lainey, don’t let him take you back!  Do whatever you can to escape!

“Kyle!  Let go of me!  Kyle, let go!”  I was shocked when I found myself able to pull my arm out of his grip.  “Kyle, why can’t you just let me go home?  My home!  I don’t care if I have to go to Katie’s house for the rest of my life!  I’ll never go back to my house if that’s what you want, just let me go!  In five days is Katie’s birthday, and my brother’s coming back after a year of being gone!  I can’t be gone for that!”  I took a step closer to him.  “Please, Kyle.  Let me go.”

I started to cry, and Kyle looked like my tears were hurting him.  Yeah right.  It’s all an act Lainey.  Don’t for a second let him fool you into thinking he cares about you.  He’s just like all the other guys in the world.  He’s just like Cody.

“I’m sorry I’ve been putting you through this, Elaine.  But I can’t let you go home.  There’s a one in a million chance that that vampire will come back and hurt you.  And that’s too much of a chance for me to risk it.”

“You ask like it’s your life to risk!  Like I’m yours to protect!”

“You don’t understand this whole ‘mate’ thing, do you?  It means you are mine to protect!”

He took a step closer to me.  “It means that you’re my life.”  His voice lost all strength.  It quivered in pain, and his eyes filled with sorrow, which I didn’t understand.  “Why can’t I make you understand that?”

“Because!  I’m not this mate or whatever you keep calling me, I’m just Elaine Butler!  I’m just plain old simple me!”

He took another step closer to me, and we were a mere foot apart when he replied, “Plain old Elaine?  All day I haven’t found anything plain and simple about you.”

I looked in his eyes and shook my head.  “You’ve only known me for a day.”

[A/N: What do you think?  What should happen next?  Should he let her go, or take her back to the house?  Just so you all know, I don’t have this all planned out.  I’m just typing what comes to my mind, so if you ever have a suggestion of what I should include in the story, comment or message me your thoughts.  Vote if you like it!”]
