Akward silence......this is really bad and short...sorry
It was quiet in the car as we drove to Braxton's temporary post. He hadn't said much since he had answered his phone.
"Babe what's going on?" I said quietly.
His hands tensed up on the steering wheel and his jaw was clenched.
"That was my C.O from the base, I deploy early tomorrow morning for Iraq." He said sternly.
"What?" I asked racking my brain, he was not due back for another few weeks and with such short notice it had to be serious
"Yes, they need as many boots on the ground as possible. Their has been many insurgent attacks on soldiers currently posted near the Afghan border, they are in deep need of backup." He said turning his head, his eyes looked cold and dead.
"Braxton why am I going to the base with you?"
He slowed the car down and pulled it to the side of the highway. He got out and came around to my side and opened my door. Confused I got out and he gently took my hands and got down on one knee. My breath caught in my throat as I realized what he was doing.
About to say something he shushed me,"Ashley this was never my plan to propose under such drastic circumstances but I love you and I can't leave without knowing."
He cleared his throat and produced a tiny velvet box and opened it. Revealing a delicate silver ring with a diamond in the center.
"I know it's not much and you deserve so much better but will you make me the happiest man alive and marry me?"
Tears sprung from my eyes and nodded my head, "yes I will."
He stood up and kissed me softy, my arms wound around his neck. I could feel his heart racing against my chest.
I smiled, "Only a women could make you that anxious."
"Only you babe, only you". He said sweetly.
