My closed fist hovers tantalisingly close to the wooden door. If I had any confidence in what i am about to do right now, I would be knocking. But I don't, because I have never had to face something so terrifying in my life.

Every ounce of my body tells me not to do it. Not to knock. But I do.

"Come in," I hear him murmur.

Heart in my throat, I turn the knob and wander in. Grayson sits behind his desk, pen between his fingers at he writes on a piece of paper. He looks up when I close the door behind me, the most prominent specks of silver glinting in his eyes as he caught my gaze.

His office is impressive. More impressive than mine back at home. Is it even my home anymore?

"I know," I say, although my voice comes out breathless and hoarse. Grayson's eyebrows furrow together in confusion, not knowing what I am talking about. I force my eyes to the ground.

"Sorry?"

"What...What we are," I tell him, trying to force my voice into sounding somewhat controlled, but instead it shakes uneasily, like my hands by my side.

Instantly, it clicks with Grayson exactly what I mean.

He sets his pen down, sighing deeply. I watch carefully as he stands, brushing the creases out of his dress shirt, before rounding the desk. My heart beats faster, as I notice the way his fingers drag across the surface of the desk as he does so. At least he is fully dressed today.

"Who told you?" he questions, leaning against the edge of the desk. At least he is leaving some space between us.

"Someone at the party last night," I say softly. I hope it isn't a mate thing to notice when someone is lying, because otherwise he would be able to see straight through my facade.

He doesn't seem to notice though, as he frowns in annoyance.

"You weren't supposed to find out this way," he tells me gently, as if it makes a difference. I narrow my eyes at him, as he stands again. "I wanted to be the one to tell you..."

He leans forward, his hand reaching out to me. I take a step back. "Don't."

"Is something wrong?" he asks, surprised at my instant distaste to his touch. I don't want to tell him it is because I'm scared. Would he laugh at me? Would he tell me I am stupid because the thought of feeling sparks with someone is terrifying?

I take a deep breath, ensuring I am looking directly into Grayson's eyes.

"One man ruined my life," I began. Grayson frowned.

"I wanted to be a lawyer. But one day, my dreams were taken from me, when Alpha Kaden stole me from my family when I was only thirteen. I went from being around some of the most intelligent girls in the world, to the worst criminals in society," I whisper.

I glance down, hating the way Grayson's eyes burn into mine.

"It wasn't the physical torture that bothered me. It was the emotional torment they put me through, night, and day. And eventually, when I worked my way to the top, I was forced to betray them."

With a clenched jaw, my gaze sweeps upward again. "That's why I don't trust Alphas."

"And my sister...Her own mate let four men rape and kill her while she was in heat. It didn't get any better, even when I watched him be euthanized for his crimes." I sigh. "That's why I don't trust mates."

The moment the last word came from my mouth, Grayson takes a step forward. It shatters the mental wall I spent that entire speech constructing, instantly. I knew I felt something with him before, that I tried my best not to accept, but now, as he stands directly in front of me, with the wall at my back, I can't deny it.

"You have no idea how angry that makes me," he whispers, as if someone else is in the room that might hear. Or maybe it's just hard to hear him through the pounding in my ears.

He punctuates his words with both his hands coming up to rest against the wall. Suddenly, he's so close I can't breathe.

"I would kill them...Every single one of them," he murmurs.

I want to say something, but the words are stuck in my throat. All I can do is push myself as hard against the wall as possible, and pray I don't commit to anything stupid. But by the intoxicating way Grayson is acting, I'm not sure if my mind is going to give me any assistance.

"I want you to trust me," Grayson says, but all I can concentrate on is his hands coming closer to my face.

A rational minded person would have told him to back it up, but it's as if that part of my brain has been closed off for repairs. Instead, I'm left eying his fingertips up as if they are laced with poison.

Gently, watching my every movement, Grayson brushes his fingers across my cheek. I expected it to be like an electric shock straight to my heart, but it was so much more than that. The feeling of the imminent bond between us consumed my entire being, forcing me to accept one simple fact.

We are mates.

He smiles, and it's as if he's rejuvenated. I never really noticed how exhausted he looked, until we touched. He almost seemed to...light up.

"I would never let anything bad happen to you...Ever," he says, his hot breath invading my senses. Somehow, in the heat of the moment, I believe him.

He places his hand back on the wall, trapping me in. Slowly, as if waiting for me to protest, Grayson brings his head down, till I can feel his lips brush against the curve of my neck.

And it hits me again. That euphoric feeling only a mate can provide.

Gently, he runs his lips across my neck, completely paralysing me. And the moment those sensuous lips begin leaving soft kisses from below my ear, to my collar bone, my knees weaken completely.

"You have no idea how long I've been waiting to do this," Grayson murmurs against my neck, taking advantage of my breathlessness.

My hands, once frozen by my sides tentatively quiver their way up to his shoulder, my fingers gripping into the hard muscle through his shirt fervently.

No scraps of teeth against my neck hints he wants to mark me in this situation, which is a relief. Instead, he trails his kisses higher, across my chin, with his torturous hands kneading my side.

"Why are you so good at this?" I ask into the air, those being the only words I was able to force out. His lips curve into a smile against my skin, making me shiver.

"Shh," he whispers.

All of a sudden, he brings his hands up, pulling away so he can cup my face. I'm trapped in a haze of feeling, as he stares deeply into my eyes. I can tell, simply by the look he gives me, and the way he tilts his chin slightly, he wants to kiss me.

No, he is going to kiss me.

And just when his lips hovering so close to mine, the sound of his office door opening pulled us apart.

I was shocked back into reality, gasping in air that I hadn't realised I had been holding in.

"Oh...Sorry, did I interrupt something?"

Standing in the doorway, is a man I've never seen before. His hair is a sun toned blond, at a similar shaggy length to Grayson. He looks absolutely mortified that he just walked in on something he wasn't supposed to.

Grayson, on the other hand looked bothered. He runs a hand through his hair, sighing deeply. I notice at that moment, that the top two buttons of his shirt are unbuttoned...Did I do that?

"As a matter of fact, you did," Grayson muttered under his breath, but I think everyone heard it.

"Who's this?" The man asks, nodding his head toward me.

Still, I'm pressed tightly against the wall, remaining stunned by what just happened. What I almost committed to. I know first hand how hard it is to resist when someone kisses you like Grayson just did...Especially when that someone has a magic touch.

"Lexia, my mate," Grayson informs him. He glances at me. "This is my brother, Evan."

No similarity. That's what I first notice. Maybe the same nose, but other than that, the hair and eye colour don't even compliment each other. I would call Evan my relation before Grayson's.

"I came to remind you-" Evan breaks off, casting his gaze over to me. "We have business to attend to."

"Right," Grayson said, obviously recalling that something important required his attention.

He looked at me for a fleeting moment, like some sort of a goodbye, before he followed his brother from the room.

I collapsed to the ground, completely shattered by what just happened.

What did just happen?

The worst thing happened while I was writing this...

I was innocently typing away, listening to a calm, fairly sensuous song on Spotify. What I didn't realise, was another song, with the same title was queued to play next.

What was this song you ask? It was heavy metal...Heavy metal does not fit with this chapter! I actually died.

But an awesome thing is, that I did an interview with Nishsai_V Stalk her and see she wrote a book that includes this interview! Check it out (:
