"Are you ready for your first day of school?" Mom asked me as she put a plate of toast next to my

plate of scrabbled eggs.

"I guess." I took a drink of my milk and set it next to my orange juice. Werewolves have big appetites

if you haven't noticed. "I hope the vamps just don't cause any problems this year. I have enough to worry about."

"I'm sure nothing will happen. They've been behaving very well for the past few years, I don't see why

they would cause any problems now." Our school is made up of mostly werewolves and vampires, only about a third of the school is human.

"What time is it?" I finished my last piece of toast and my juice and Mom grimaced a little.

"You're going to have to run."

"Damn it." I said this under my breath as I grabbed my bag and ran out the door of our apartment. I

took the short cut through the woods so I could run faster. I got to school with twenty minutes to spare; if I had ran at human speed I would only have five.

"Well, well. Looks like the Princes showed up." I snarled at Jared as he and his table of skanks

laughed. I rolled my eyes and walked up the front steps of the school. On my left were the werewolves, and a few humans, and on my right were the vampires, also having a few humans mixed in. That's how every class room is set up, wolves to the left, vamps to the right.

The pack bowed their heads and I nodded to them. The vamps also bowed their heads in respect and I

nodded. We've been on very good terms with the vampires for the past five hundred years.

"You ready for junior year?!" Ivey screeched in excitement as she and her sister walked on either side

of me.

"I guess."

"Party pooper." Genevieve had her flirty voice on, which meant some cute humans were around.

"Leave the humans alone."

"Have you ever been with a human?" Genevieve raised an eyebrow at me and smiled a little. "They're

so much fun to play with!"

"Genevieve!" She bowed her head and peaked over at the humans again. I rolled my eyes and opened

my locker.

"Just ignore her." Ivey waved her sister off. "What was that about with Dylan protecting you??"

"I don't know Ivey, but thank you for reminding me, I have to thank him.

"I think that spit swap was thanks enough for him." I hit Genevieve upside the head and she

whimpered a little.

"I don't think it's far that the vamps don't age but we do."

"Ivey, you bring this up every year, let it go." She frowned and I closed my locker.

*****

"Hey! There's Dylan." Ivey nodded towards the lunch table of human punks. "I feel bad for him,

having to sit with humans."

"We have to sit with humans, remember?" Ivey made a disgusted face just before the popular click of

human girls sat at our table.

"Ivey! What did you do to your hair?!" I grimaced and got up from the table as Ivey explained her

hair. I walked over to the punk table and the two new kids stared at me wide eyed.

"I told you there was a chick with white hair!!" One of the human punks yelled. I was born with white

hair, along with my white fur, that hasn't happened since the original ghost wolf. My mother offers to let me dye it every year, but I like my white hair.

"Hey Dylan, I need to talk to you." He narrowed his eyes in confusion. About last night. He nodded at

my thought and walked outside with me.

"Why did you do that last night?"

"Somebody had to." He shrugged and avoided having to keep eye contact with me for long.

"Ivey or Genevieve could have done it." He shrugged and looked down at the dirt. "If you're trying to

play some game, to get on my good side so I'll pick you, lay off." He looked at me, a little hurt, before I walked back inside to my table.

"So?" Genevieve whispered to me.

"He's just trying to get on my good side." Genevieve laughed once and shook her head. I looked over

at Dylan and he looked away; he had been watching me.

*****

"I'm home!" There was no response. "Mom?" I turned the corner to go to her room and almost ran

into her.

"Hi! How was school?" I eyeballed her short, silk red robe before looking at her again.

"Who are you hiding?" Her face fell a little.

"Sweetie please-"

"You're starting this again?!"

"Honey, I'm tired of being alone!"

"Who the hell are you sleeping with this time?!" I pushed past her and opened her bedroom door; Rick

stood by my mother's bed. He was buttoning his shirt up when he looked up and smirked at me. Usually my mother just picks some random human, she never sleeps with another wolf.

"You're sleeping with Rick!!"

"Honey-" I snarled and she silenced herself.

"Get out of my house." I growled at Rick and he slid past me with the smirk still on his face. I waited

for him to close the front door before I turned back to my mother. "What the hell were you thinking?!"

"Melanie!! It's not fair that you do this to me every time!"

"It's not fair that I have until the end of my junior year to pick who's going to be my mate for the rest

of my life either! But guess what?! Life's not fair!" Mom bowed her head again and whimpered. "I'm leaving if I ever see him in this apartment again."

I brushed past her before she could say anything and slammed my bedroom door shut. "What the hell

are you doing?"

Jared was laying on my bed with a smirk on his face. "Following my father's example…" He stood up

from the bed and walked towards me. "Going after what I want." He held my face in one hand before he kissed me. I shoved him back and growled. "You're going to have to pick me, you know."

"You're not the only male in the pack, you know." He smirked and walked up to me again.

"I'll get you eventually." He brushed his thumb against my cheek and smiled at me. "Bye Melanie." He

turned around and jumped out my window. I sighed and threw myself on my bed.

He was right in a way. If I don't pick someone by the end of the year, then all the eligible males are

going to fight for me, Jared's going to be the one to win if that's the case. I pulled my pillow over my head and groaned.

Then there was a soft knocking on my door. "Melanie? Are you going to the pack party tonight?"

"Fuck." I whispered to myself. I had forgotten about the pack party. "Yeah, what time is it again?"

"Eight."

"And what time is it now?"

"Five thirty." I groaned again and she left me alone.

I got up from my bed and opened the doors of my closet. Pack party's are meant for mating and

drinking. When I say drinking, I don't mean just alcohol. Humans will get invited to our parties and some of us in the pack like to feed on humans. I've never tried it because I see it as disrespectful, but everyone who does it seems to enjoy it.

I pushed my clothes around, looking for the slutty outfit Ivey got me for my seventeenth birthday. I

didn't want to wear Genevieve's because hers is worse than the one Ivey got me. I found Genevieve's first and sighed as I looked at it. The top was black and like a vest in a way. It had one buttons to hold it shut and the sides were cut like triangles. The point that went under my arms wrapped all the way around my back and tied, that's all there was for the top. The skirt was also black and was super short and tight. I groaned and hung it on my dresser's edge.

I looked for Ivey's outfit again and finally found it. Hers was a little more modest, not by much

though. The top was strapless and ended about two inches about my bellybutton. The skirt was looser than Genevieve's, but it was just as short. I sighed and decided to make them both happy and I wore Genevieve's top and Ivey's skirt.

I put my hair up in a ponytail and curled all of the hair. I curled the loose hair that framed my face and

smiled in approval. I put on black eyeliner next, then I brushed my bangs out until they laid on the side of my left eye. I smiled a little in a approval and grabbed my black heel shoes; I wear these shoes to every pack party. They have a good sized heel and a rounded toe. They zipped up on the side and there was no skin of my feet showing.

By the time I was ready, it was seven thirty. I sighed and walked out to the kitchen to find my mother

wearing even less clothing then me. I groaned inwardly and sighed. "Melanie!" My mother cried happily.

"Can we just go?" She smiled and nodded.
