You can imagine Emily Rudd with red hair as Cassandra Ambers. Or anyone else you want to.
But someone with red hair.
"Are you kidding me?" I yelled at my former best friend, after reaching the Black Pearl restaurant and receiving a detailed explanation of why was I called at eleven pm. Not to mention the wallet which tagged along with me.
"It's his fault. Not mine." Cass whispered, clearly scared of my rage. She too, knows how much like Incredible Hulk I can turn into.
The people in this brightly lit and colourful restaurant had decided that our argument was much more interesting than the delicious food placed on their tables, at least it looked delicious. The atmosphere was tense and I did not like all the stares on us, but that didn't restrain me from lashing out my anger. I'm not exactly good when it comes to anger management.
The restaurant had many abstract paintings, something I admire and never get tired of looking at them, but my mind was elsewhere right now. It seemed to be a buffet restaurant as the food was neatly layed out on the table nearby with steam still visible above it. This eating house wasn't that crowded, but you could make out at least thirty people. There were around ten bamboo tables scattered in this big and very popular restaurant.
"Oh yeah? Then let me rephrase that, are you both kidding me?" I yelled, even louder than the last time. I was furious because of the insensible explanation they presented me.
"Miss..." Cass's handsome date paused. "Whoever you are. Please just stop screaming. My ears are gonna bleed if you don't shut up right now." Like I had described him in the picture in the previous chapter, he was just so damn hot. But rude and annoying too, which I got to know now.
Why are hot guys always annoying and behave like a jerk? It's like the cliché of every teen fiction in the market or on Wattpad.
Now you might be wondering what made my blood boil.
Two names.
Asher and Cass.
They forgot their wallets and had a three course dinner without any money in their pockets. Thus, I was called by Cass at midnight (OK, OK fine 11 pm) to pay the bill of their not-so-cheap dinner.
Amazing night I had, didn't I?
What kind of guy would forget their wallets on a date anyways? Guys like him, apparently.
"Oh, so Mr. Asher blames me for shouting to pay my best friend's date bill? At eleven fucking pm?" I yelled at him too. The only emotion I felt right now was anger. Pure anger.
Some counsellor I was.
"First off, my name's Ashford. Secondly, we're sorry. I'm pretty sure we've that mentioned that word like a thousand times before. Now, can you just pay and leave?" He said, not at all politely.
That little asshole. First off, they ruined my chocolate world dream and I'm also paying for their fucking dinner, then he even has the balls to be rude to me. I instantly hated Asher or whatever shit his name was.
I grumbled some curse words under my breath as I paid for their dinner. It definitely wasn't cheap. It was fucking costly.
"Hey Jess? I'll pay you back, OK?" Cass whispered to me.
"Nah it's fine. I'll manage." I shrugged, my anger towards her vanishing almost immediately. She has the best friend effect on me.
The different coloured lights of the restaurant had started flickering and by the time we made it outside, they were soon turned off. All the chefs and waiters left one by one but not before taking a glance at us.
Now was the situation of going back. The bike could only fit 2 people. Max. I sighed.
"Me and Cass." I said.
"Agreed." Cass nodded in approval.
"Hello? What about me?" Asher (I'm just gonna call him that) chimed in.
"What about you?" I asked, acting clueless.
"So you guys are just gonna ditch me here?"
"How did you reach here then?"
"Took a bus."
"Well, then sure. Why not?" I replied, not finding any issues in this plan.
He grumbled something under his breath which sounded a lot like 'I hate you'.
But I could honestly care less.
"Come on Ca...." I began, trying to start the bike but it wouldn't budge.
Oh, no. Don't you dare make me give up on you, bike. Not in the middle of night, at the least.
"Goddamnit!" I yelled out of frustration as I kicked the stupid thing, hard.
"Hey Jess? Do you remember how much petrol was there before you left?" Cass asked, in a soft tone.
Fuck.
And that's how my friends, we ended up walking on a lonely street at midnight. There were about twelve street lights, out of which only two were glowing. A few houses that were on constructed on this street had their lights turned off and had their curtains drawn. Just perfect way to spend my night. Not.
"Can we not walk at a snail's pace?" Asher complained, beside me.
This boy is annoying.
"I have two speeds: slow and stop. Should I choose the latter?" I retorted back.
"Eh...No. That'd suck. Just like your face." He spoke, making an poor attempt to counter my quick remark.
"If he doesn't shut up right now, he's gonna go to a hospital with a black eye." I gritted through my clenched teeth. Cass seemed to understand my anger and immediately responded.
"Hey Ashford, you can at least be a little more polite to the person who paid for our dinner, can't you?" Cass suggested, giving him her classic bambi eyes look. And let me tell you, she gets that look just perfectly.
"You know that," He said pointing at her Bambi eyes, "never works on me. And no, I can't be polite to this lady," he said as he glanced at me, "over here."
"Why?" Cass questioned, clearly as confused as me.
"Well, because she's an A-class bitch." He answered, casually, like calling random girls a bitch was nothing too unusual.
But I can totally imagine that. Like imagine that they're are a few ladies walking on the street and then poof! Asher comes out of nowhere and points at each one of them and be like 'A-class bitch, A-class bitch!'. And the ladies just stare at him with a 'WTF' expression. Cue my laughter in the background.
Cass gasped. "How can you say that? Do you have any idea what she does to guys who call her a bitch, wait no, didn't you also do that to the guy who called you ugly?"
I grumbled in reply. Seriously, Cass doesn't know that she's just making the matters worse by blabbering.
"Well, in the restaurant she was screaming at the both of us actually, thereby creating a scene, which doesn't exactly give a good person vibe off her. And the answer to your second question will be: I'd like to see her try." He explained, looking at me with a look of pure disgust.
"Shut up." I ordered, loud enough for him to hear. Who did this guy think he was? I paid for his, Okay, their fucking dinner at eleven PM. The least he could do was be polite to me or just shut up entirely.
"And if I choose not to?" He said, looking amused. I had enough with him. Now he was gonna feel my wrath. Good bye Asher.
R.I.P
By which, I didn't mean 'Rest in Peace'. I actually meant 'Rest in Pieces'.
Cass must have seen that look and tried to stop me.
"Jess, don't do it. Don't.'
"Oh really? Come on, Jess." He said, emphasising on Jess. He called me Jess. How dare he calls me Jess? That name is only reserved for Cass. And a few other people whom I find tolerable.
Definitely doesn't include him.
"Do you seriously have a death wish?" Cass whispered to him but I heard it anyway.
"Death wish? This idiot won't be able to even push me, let alone do some real damage. I mean look at her, she barely has some muscles," He insulted me on my face. "She wouldn't be able to even push a feather if she wanted to."
That was the final straw.
"Don't call me Jess. It's Jessica for you. And you want me to come on at you? Then I will come on at you." I spoke, walking closer to him. He smiled. He fucking smiled at my threat.
Am I not scary?
After a few minutes, Asher was laying on the hard concrete road, holding his...private area (which as a matter of fact I just kicked) and also muttering a few curse words at me. I just stood there, pretending to check my nails.
I didn't hit him that hard, he's a stranger after all. But just enough to show that he pissed me off to a great extent.
"How could you?" He asked, in a pained voice I must add.
"Oh, so you still don't know how I could. Should I demonstrate it again?" I asked in the most innocent voice I could use.
After a few minutes, we continued walking down the lonely street. There was just one lamp at the very end of the road where it split into two ways. It almost felt like a horror movie scene. All that was missing was a psycho murderer guy or a ghost. Anything's fine though, the psycho guy might kill in some painful ways compared to ghost. So I'd opt for the ghost.
"You know, I wasn't wrong when I said you were a bitch. You fucking kicked me," he said, anger pouring through his voice.
"Well, you did call me a A class bitch so I guess it's even now." I shrugged.
"Yeah right. Because being called a bitch is equal to a kick." He muttered.
"Did you say something?" I raised an eyebrow.
"No shit I did."
Awkward silence.
"How about we go with a fresh start? Forgetting the kick?" He suggested.
"You assume I'll forget all those rude things to said to me? After paying for your night out?"
"Come on, I'm sorry. Okay? I'm not exactly having a good day today."
Well, sorry doesn't fix everything. But it's surely a start for fixing somethings.
"Secondly, you really want to? I mean, I'm a bitch, right? Why'd you wanna be friends with a female dog?"
"Dogs are good, and also they follow their masters orders. I'd be pleased to be friends with a dog."
I rolled my eyes at his response.
He cleared his throat. "I never got your name. Formally, I mean."
'That's cause I never gave it to you."
Is what I wanted to say but to keep things light, I simply told him. I can be a civilized person when I want to.
"Jessica Walkers."
"Nice to meet you Jessica. I'm Ashford Miller." He introduced himself, taking his right hand out to shake.
We shook hands. His hands were soft and warm, unlike mine. And surprisingly, his touch felt familiar. A hand which I didn't want to let go.
So cheesy Jess.
"What do you do, you know as a job?" I asked, trying to get rid of this awkward silence.
I hate awkward silences. They're just so awkward.
Okay, that didn't make much sense. But that's all I could say on that topic.
"Heir to a multimillionaire company." He stated. I stared at him, my eyes wide.
"What? I'm serious," he defended, not smiling or showing any signs that he was lying.
Either he was really good at acting or he was simply telling the truth. Could be any, actually.
"Oh, yeah? Which company then?" I asked back, clearly not buying it.
"Empreus. Rings a bell?"
Of course it does. Empreus is the biggest multimillionaire company that deals with the export of precious gems in the whole country right now. Probably in the existence. Could he really be the heir? Nah, he's just messing with me. But what if he isn't...
Damn...he's rich then.
I was taken out of my thoughts when I heard laughter. Lots of it.
"You...you actually fell for it." He stated between his laughs.
"Yeah, yeah whatever." I shrugged it off. I didn't want to give him the satisfaction of knowing that I was flustered.
"Ok, ok I'm sorry. I work as a teacher." He said, after he finished laughing for a good five minutes.
"You can't." I denied.
"Can't what?"
"Fool me again."
"What?"
"You can't possibly be a teacher."
"You think I'm lying?"
"I know you're lying."
"Well, why do you think so?" He asked, looking very interested in finding out the reason of me not believing him.
"I..I don't know. I just don't expect you to be a teacher." I stammered, not entirely sure about what I meant to say.
Maybe because he was just so...differently sculpted. I mean come on, if you've got a teacher like him, you won't be able to even glance away from his facial features, let alone study.
It's just he doesn't look or seem like the person who'll go in a class and give a boring lecture. He seemed like a guy who'd be fun and sassy and be something cool like a racer. Anything but a teacher.
"Why so?" He asked.
"Forget it."
"I won't. I'll ask you again. Someday."
"Whatever. I have a question."
"So?"
"Shut up and answer me. Do you like Cass?"
"I can't say anything in front of her right now."
"What, are you afraid of a rejection, Ashford? Right Cass? Cass?" I asked turning back only to see...nothing. Well, no human being at least.
"Hey Ashford?" I asked.
"What?" He asked back.
"Where's Cass?"
DUN DUN DUN
WHERE DID THE LADY GO?
LOL
IDK
YOU SHOULD KNOW THAT.
