Why can’t I breath whenever I think about you, why can’t I speak whenever I talk about you?”   Brielle’s POV

It was dark. Adam’s hands were over my eyes yet I cloud still smell the muggy air around me. Rain was on the way without a doubt and weather we’d get caught in it or not made no difference to me. I had always loved that rain. All that really mattered to me was where Adam was taking me… I couldn’t take the suspense; for Adam on the other hand this was exactly as he wanted it.

“Adam… where are you taking me?” I questioned impatiently “Are we there yet?”

“Not yet, be patient Brielle… I promise I’m leading you in the right direction.” Adam chuckled lightly sounding slightly amused.

           “This isn’t fair… I don’t like surprises…” I complained.

“Stop lying to me Brielle. No matter how many times you tell me you hate surprises, I know you love mine,” Adam whispered in my ear as we came to a stop.

A cool breeze blew past me. I took in a deep breath; I loved the fresh air especially knowing that I was now in London and for once I believed that nothing bad would happen.

“Ready for this Brielle?” Adam spoke softly taking his hands off my eyes as I nodded slowly.

My eyes took in everything around me. The sky so gloomy, cloud, and yet still beautiful. The light breeze made it feel absolutely perfect. There was a sign above my head that read London Zoo.

“You used to love animals… so I thought that maybe… you know.. “Adam stammered seeming slightly nervous about my reaction.

“Adam this is perfect! Thank you!” I squealed in excitement “How long can we be here?”

“As long as you’d like. I have the whole day free.” Adam smiled sweetly his chocolate brown eyes lighting up.

“Yay! Well come on then there’s no time to waste!” I exclaimed excitedly.

I grabbed Adam’s hand and pulled him along with me though the archway that marked the entrance to the zoo. There was a tiny throng of people milling about but it seemed to be one of the slower business days that the zoo experienced.

“You know it’s been so long since I’ve been to a zoo… well actually I think I’ve only ever been to one once… when I was like 7. I think  it was with my parents right before we moved to Owatonna.” I smiled at the memory “Of course my parents were so wrapped up with work that they didn’t pay much attention to me and I ended up lost by the monkey pin.”

“You never told me that story before.” Adam smiled sweetly as he walked next to me, keeping his hand in mine.

“That’s because it was never relevant,” I answered looking up at Adam “Why are you looking at me like that?”

“Because you’re so beautiful… I couldn’t imagine my life without you… and I couldn’t stand to lose you.” Adam replied gently “Well honestly… I…”

“Oh look… the penguins!” I squealed in excitement “They’re so beautiful…”                  “Got that right,” Adam nodded in agreement.

“Now would  be the perfect time to tell you a totally cool and interesting fact about penguins… only I don’t really know any.” I sighed as I continued staring at the penguins.

“aha right… now I guess I’ll have to give a fact on something I used to be an expert on,” Adam grinned mischievously.

“oh yeah? Well that should be interesting because I don’t remember you being an expert on anything,” I held back a giggle as I watched a penguin slid into the water.

“Yeah… I’m totally an expert on a beautiful creature that could eat pizza every day, who loved camping out in a very badly made fort without permission in preparation for any evil that might be coming, and a girl with the most beautiful eyes I’ve ever seen, a heart that can be compared to no others, and whom I was not there for nearly enough,” Adam explained softly.

A family with small children moseyed up to the penguin enclosure; they were happy and together only a few feet away from Adam and I.

“You were always there when I needed you most.” I smiled gently my gaze flickering to Adam.

“Oh so you thought I was talking about you did you?” Adam raised an eyebrow in question as I nodded “Oh really and what made you assume this I could’ve easily been talking about that penguin right over there,”

Adam pointed to a penguin waddling around after another penguin and of course my attention was entirely diverted to the little penguin in which Adam was pointing to. This in turn gave him the advantage of surprise when he began to tickle me.

“Adam! No… Stop it!” I giggled as I jumped away from Adam.

It didn’t help. Adam took a step towards me his mesmerizing eyes gleaming with happiness and excitement. His arms reached out trying to wrap around me but I jumped out of the way and took off running before Adam could catch me. Adam chased after me of course following me where ever I went causing people to send glares and roll their eyes in our direction. Thunder rumbled lightly in the distance, the wind picked up, overall people thinned and the clouds darkened in the sky above, but for whatever reason I couldn’t seem to focus on anything but Adam glancing back at him so many times I couldn’t even count them all. At one point I started climbing through the tubes of a tall and very elaborate child’s play-set which was coincidentally animal themed.

“If you want me you’re going to have to come and get me!” I taunted from the first level not believing that Adam would even attempt to follow me.

“If that’s a challenge them you are so on!” Adam exclaimed as he crawled inside and started to follow me.

“How do you even fit through these tubes?” I called back continuing to crawl as fast as I could.

“because they are made big and I’m not fat,” Adam responded.

“I’d beg to differ,” I teased holding back a giggle.

“Hey! For that you really are going to get it!” He gasped in surprise. “Just because a guy likes pizza, and ice cream it does not make him fat!”

   “Kinda does!” I giggled.

Adam only followed me faster almost catching me a few times. It was when silence fell over the air that I came out of my “hiding” place and crawled quickly to the slid. It was the fastest way down. Sliding down was rough for I couldn’t even remember the last time I had slid down a slid; at the bottom was a pit of plastic balls.

“Boo!” Adam exclaimed wrapping his arms around me after jumping out  from his unseen hiding place. “Gotcha now Brielle!”

“No fair! How long have you been here?” I questioned.

“At least 10 minutes, I figured you'd come down eventually and then I'd catch you by surprise. " Adam smiled keeping his arms wrapped tightly around me.

"That's because you cheat,” I giggled looking up at him.

Thunder rumbled loudly in the sky above causing me to jump. Adam's arms wrapped even tighter around me as if he were trying to make me feel safe. The rain started falling softly from the sky and onto us.

"Come on we should probably get out of this rain." Adam responded slowly staring into my eyes.

   "Right..."I nodded slowly.

Adam's eyes had always had the power to mesmerize me. No matter what words he spoke his eyes were the thing that got me the most. They were beautiful, he was beautiful, and I couldn't take my eyes off of him. Half expecting him to lean down and kiss me I didn't move. Despite my overwhelming urge to always run away when things got bad I knew now that I would always have a hard time pulling myself away from Adam's side. Adam pulled me to my feet gently as we trudged our way out of the ball pit. Thunder rumbled loudly shaking the ground. The zoo was almost like a graveyard at night. Rain began crashing harder to the ground pelting us steadily with the chillness that would cool down the day. I grabbed Adam’s hand.

“Come along Adam! We wouldn’t want you to get too wet… you could melt.” I giggled happily.                  Adam’s POV.

Everything felt so real… so perfect; the rain on my skin, Brielle’s hand in mine, and my pulse racing dramatically. I felt that no girl in the world could make me feel the way that my best friend did, the girl that always had it all in my eyes, the girl who was there for me even if I wasn’t there for her, the girl that I couldn’t stand to lose again.

“Hey I am not a wicked witch… you on the other hand…” I teased lightheartedly.

“Ahh! No fair! Fine if I’m a wicked witch then you are so Gollum,” Brielle laughed.

“My Precious,” I stated doing my own Gollum impression.

Brielle smiled that smile that seemed to light up my world. She made me feel like I was no longer alone. She held my hand tightly as raindrops struck our skin.

“Oh! Let’s go in the aquarium! We can at least get dry for a little,” Brielle suggested although she was already leading me there.

Finally arriving under the shelter of aquarium the few people there already were quick to stare at us. Water droplets were rolling from our skin; though Brielle was quick to lead me over to as far away from the people as we could get and close to glass. Thunder boomed loudly again outside, and I couldn’t help but worry that a storm was coming. Brielle stared in at the aquarium creatures; her eyes were wide with wonder and excitement. I loved seeing her this way rather than… the way I had found her. She actually seemed happy.

“Adam! Look at the stingray! Isn’t it amazing?” Brielle exclaimed pointing to the stingray.

“Yeah it really is amazing. Nature sure does have some amazing creatures in it,” I whispered my eyes on Brielle’s stingray.

A few moments of silence fell, the people on the other side of the room though only a few feet away from us felt like they were worlds away.

“Hey Brielle?” I asked softly “Do you trust me?”

    Brielle hesitated.

“Because if you don’t… I guess I’ll just have to keep trying to prove it to you,” I whispered.

“It’s not that I don’t trust you Adam it’s just that…Well I….”Brielle trailed off hesitantly.

I just waited. She sighed softly.

“Ok… it’s just that I’m scared,” Brielle bite her lip.

“What of?” I questioned hesitantly.

“I don’t know… I guess of you,” Brielle frowned slightly “I’m scared to fall in love with you. I’m afraid that I can’t keep you… like deep down in my heart I know that I’m going to lose you just like I’ve lost everything else.”

A few tears descended Brielle’s cheek.

“Brielle, I promise you’re not going to lose me. I’m here for the long run. I’m not going to let anything hurt you.” I whispered. “I love you Brielle.”

With that she wrapped me in a hug.

“Adam how do you put up with me?” Brielle eyes locked on mine.

“Brielle I don’t have to put up with you. I like having you in my life. You’re my best friend and you’ve been through way more that you deserved.” I answered not taking my eyes off of Brielle’s.

“Aww… wow so are we like boyfriend and girlfriend now?” Brielle wondered aloud.

“Depends… I mean do you want to be my girlfriend? Because if you don’t feel the same about me…then well I understand… and umm,” I stammered nervously.

“I’d love to be your girlfriend Adam… since you are available at the moment.” Brielle smiled warmly “but I have to tell you… I’ve never had a boyfriend before so I might be really bad at this.”

“haha well I’m sure we’ll work through that together.” I chuckled lightly.

  Brielle’s stomach growled.

“Ok how about we brave the storm and go get some food?” I offered.

“That would be great… you have no idea how hungry I am,” She smiled.

“ha well you’re stomach kind of speaks for you,” I teased.

Thunder boomed loudly in the sky.

“Let’s just get out of here before the storm knocks down the whole building!” Brielle responded.

Out in the storm we ran again and into the car. Ordering food through the drive through, we sat in the car eating watching and listening to the sounds of the rain pelting the car.

“Adam did you love Selena?” Brielle questioned between devouring her food.

“I thought I did… I was enchanted by her at first. Don’t get me wrong she was nice girl but... now that looking back at that relationship I realize that she wasn’t right for me,” I answered taking a bite of my food.

“Did she complain about your eating habits?” Brielle wondered.

“Actually she did,” I chuckled. “Ok my turn for a question,”

“hmm ok go for it,” Brielle shrugged.

“What changed your mind?” I questioned “I mean you wanted to leave so many times… I thought you didn’t want anything to do with me.”

“That’s not true.” Brielle sighed “Honestly that’s just been my solution to everything is to run away.. honestly I guess that’s always been my solution to things.”

“Well I’m not going to let you run away anymore Brielle.” I looked her in the eye as the rain was finally coming to an end.

She was so beautiful, so perfect sitting there in the passenger’s seat. It was as if I had been living my life in a dream as if I had only now awake to see what was right in front of me. What I needed; the one I needed. It all made sense now why Selena was the only girlfriend besides AnnMarie that I had. Brielle was all that I could see. She was so real to me; this moment was so real I never wanted it to end. Brielle’s hair fell across her face as she looked down. I reached over and gently brushed her hair behind her ears. Her blue eyes looked into mine and I felt my heart skip a beat. I almost forgot what I was going to say. I could feel my cheeks reddening as Brielle smiled cutely. She reached over and put a hand on my cheek. I still couldn’t take my eyes off of her. She leaned in closer to me and my heart raced. I had always been the nervous and shy type in these situations, even with my best friend. Brielle leaned over and gave me a kiss on the cheek.

“Thanks Adam,” She smiled cutely.

“It’s what I do,” I answered softly. “Hey Brielle do you wanna see something?”

“Sure I guess so,” Brielle shrugged.

“Come on,” I grinned jumping out of the car and opening Brielle’s door for her.

It was getting dark and the city lights were shining brightly from the distance. The lights reflected off of the water causing the black water to shimmer in marvelous light. It was certainly a sight to see. I lead Brielle to a little bridge over the water. Glancing down nervously at the water I stopped walking.

“Come on Brielle don’t be afraid. I won’t let you fall in,” I smiled offering her my hand.

Brielle gripped my hand as we started across the Bridge. Brielle’s hand never left mine. The air was chilly and everything was still covered in moisture from the rainfall. I lifted Brielle up on top of the rail before climbing up and sitting next to her.

“The water really is pretty.” She murmured as I reached for her hand.

“It is quite an enchanting sight to see all the lights of the city and the star reflecting off the water.” I agreed glancing out at the water. “Hey you still scared of falling?”

“Of course..” Brielle whispered. “But I’m more scared of falling for you,”

I turned my attention to Brielle.

“I’m scared that once I start falling, hitting the ground in inevitable.” Brielle whispered. “but I’m afraid that I’m already beginning to fall.”

“I won’t ever let you hit the ground. I’ll catch you,” I response softly “I promise Brielle. I won’t hurt you.

“I know… you keep telling me love me..” Brielle mumbled.

“That’s because I do. No matter what else happens I do love you… it’s not been exactly the easy thing to tell you but I just want you to know,” I blushed shyly.

“Adam… I think I love you too.” Her voice was barely above a whisper.

My eyes lit up. Nothing could have meant more to me than hearing Brielle say those three words.

“oh and I haven’t yet decided what I’ll do in my life after this tour and everything but I am going to actually do something and maybe stay in Owatonna for a while.” She mentioned as her glanced returned to the water “I don’t know but I’m sure I’ll figure it our eventually,”

“I’m glad to hear it. Ha I always thought you’d have your life figured out before I did but I guess some obstacles got in the way.” I smiled.

For a moment I sat there watching her as she watched the lights flicker on the water.

“You know what I miss?” Brielle sighed breaking the silence. “Mud wars,”

“Haha… oh yes… well I’d hate to tell you Brielle but I don’t think anyone does that…” I trailed off smirking deviously. “Except maybe us,”

“Aren’t you a little too old for games?” She teased lightly.

“Hey you are never too old to play in the mud with your best friend,” I grinned “So I guess it’s on. Next time it rains,”

“Yup you’re on,” Brielle smiled scooting closer to me.

She gently rested her head on my shoulder as I wrapped an arm around her. I couldn’t have imagined a better ending to a better day. It was so perfect and was happier than I even knew was possible. The darkness was complete now as the last rays of sun disappeared. I wrapped my arm tighter around Brielle and started softly humming as we overlooked the water. Beauty and joy what a perfect combination. No one could ever change the way I felt about Brielle.

     Selena’s POV.

I would change the way he felt about Brielle. I would make him want nothing to do with her let alone think of marrying her. I was beginning to hate her. For a moment before I had thought of changing, of just letting them be happy. I couldn’t do that; especially when I was so miserable. I would split them apart before we could make it to Ireland.

“Hey Selena!” David knocked on the door as he came in. “You gonna come to dinner?”

“Of course,” I nodded slowly.

I started walking towards the door.

“Hey by the way… you know we’re not dating right?” David questioned randomly.

“What?!?” I exclaimed.

“Yeah.. I mean for one you were dating Adam… just recently so it wouldn’t feel right. And for two you kissing me the other night… kind of freaked me out,” David explained.

“Oh umm… well ok.. oh yeah that… I don’t know what happened there… I must have lost it for a minute.” I smiled shyly. “but we can still be friends right.”

“Yeah sure thing, I don’t see why not.” Daniel smiled.

“By the way.. is Adam back yet?” I wondered aloud.

“Nope… he’s out with Brielle though. So I wouldn’t worry too much,” Davidwinked “I’m sure he’s having fun.”

I just nodded while inside I was a raging mess. The name Brielle, I hated it. Now I also had to find a way to manipulate David so that I could get exactly what I wanted. I just need to the perfect plan.
