{MARK} sighed and rubbed his eyes. He had woken up 10 minutes later than usual, which was quite frustrating because he already barely had time to get ready without the addition of waking up late.
He pulled his white tee off over his head and headed off to shower, not waiting for the water to get warm.
He was out in a record time of 5 minutes and he began pulling on clothes from his closet.
Mark ran downstairs to see his mother passed out in the couch, makeup smeared all over her face. "Must've been a hard night." he thought. The boy began to make breakfast for her, cracking an egg into a heated skillet.
"Mark?" Her voice croaked from the door way of the kitchen. She was mostly covered by her cyan colored robe, except for her some of her cleavage and her legs. Purple and blue bruises littered her collar bone and jaw, ruining the paleness of her skin
"Hi Momma." He turned the egg and reached for the 2 slices of toast that had just popped out of the toaster, burning his fingers a little as he carried them to a plate.
She came up to him and ruffled his blonde hair. "When did you do this?"
"2 days ago." he pushed the egg onto the plate and started to spread strawberry jam on the slices of toast.
"Oh.." she let out a deep sigh.
"Its okay that you weren't home. You try your best." He pulled her into a small embrace. She smelled like sex. He handed her the plate of food and grabbed some yogurt out of the fridge for himself. "I've gotta go, see you." He planted a kiss on her forehead and left their flat, taking his skateboard and bag with him.
As he skated to school, he couldn't help but wish that has mom didn't have to do what she did in order to keep things bright for his future. Life isn't always how you want it to be though.
Mark hated life
