Chapter 5: Recovering
I woke up to a man looking over me
"Where am, I who are you"
"Mackayla I'm Dr. Damian your in the hospital"
The hospital? "What how"
"You passed out at home"
"How long was I out"
"You've been here for 2 days"
"Where's my dad"
"He's coming in. Mackayla, do you remember what happened before you passed out"
"I-I was talking to my friends and cousin and there was pain coming from my left side, the last thing I remember was seeing my dad calling for help"
"Okay" he started to jot things down on his clipboard
"Why, what's going on"
"Mackayla, you fractured your rib cage"
"I broke my rib cage"
"Yes, do you know how that happened"
Should I tell him that Jason elbowed me or lie and say I fell which is kind of true but it wasn't the cause of my broken rib cage
"I-I really don't remember"
"Mack honey are you okay" my dad came rushing in
"I'm fine daddy" he kissed my forehead "What time is it"
"Its 12 pm"
"I'm missing school" I tried getting up but the pain was unbearable
"Its okay sweetie I already told the principle what happened your classmate will be bring your work over for you"
"When can I leave"
"By the end of the week so your rib can heal properly" the doctor explained
"Okay sugar time to eat up 2 days out must have given you a big appetite" said a nurse bringing a plate of food in
"I'll give you sometime to eat I'll check up on you later" the doctor and nurse left the room
"How are you feeling Mackaroon" my dad asked as he moved my hair out of the way

He chuckled "things will get better"
"Does mom know"
"Yeah she hopes you'll get better ,she'll be back when you get out of the hospital"

"What about Maia, she in school"
"I couldn't enroll her cause I had to be here she's waiting outside"

He chuckled and opened the door to call her in
"Hey Mack how are you feeling"
"In pain but I'm working through it"
She chuckled "Well I got your phone just in case" She handed it to me I had almost 70 text messages "A guy named Connor keeps calling you and he came over to the house yesterday and earlier looking for you he thought you were me" she sat on my bed
"Oh that must've been weird"
"Yeah it was, Jason stopped yesterday he brought flowers" she pointed to a dozen roses next to my bed side "he wanted to see you"

"I told him he cant"
"Thanks" I put my phone down and drank a lot of water my mouth was really dry and it was hurting
I've been out for 2 days and I don't have tonsils sue me why don't you
"So, you bored just hanging around the hospital"
"No I love seeing doctors and nurses freak out here" I started to laugh at her sarcastic response
*Ring*Ring*
"Hey C"
"Hey Mack your awake"
"Yeah"
"How are you feeling"
"I'm okay"

"The same" her voice was pitched
"C what aren't you telling me"
"Brook said your lying about being in the hospital and playing hooky"
"I honestly don't care about her what else is going on"
"Connors been trying to talk to you and wants to see you after school"
"Tell him I need to rest doctors orders"
"How long are you staying there"
"Till the end of the week sadly"
"Why how bad is it"
"I broke my rib"
"Mack that's horrible" I heard the bell ring
"Its okay C tell Aly I'm fine enjoy the rest of the day"
"Okay well we're coming over later"
"Okay bye Cera get to class don't want to be late"
"Bye Mack feel better"
I hung my phone and let out a big sigh
"So your stuck here the whole week"
"Yeah when are you going to start school"
"Well your dad said when you leave the hospital"
"That's so long I'm sorry"
"Its fine it means no studying or annoying teachers for the whole week" we giggled she always had a good sense of humor
"Okay Mackayla finish up eating then you have to get some rest" the nurse said as she fixed my covers
"I'm going to get some food in the food court" Maia said getting up from my bed "I'll see you later Mack"
"Okay bye" she left the room
"She your sister she looks like you"
"No my 1st cousin"
"She looks like she could be your twin"
I chuckled "I got that a lot growing up with her"
"Well honey finish up and get some rest"
"Okay" she headed towards the door "what's your name"

She left the room and I did what she told me to and ate the chicken and mash potatoes on my plate then my phone vibrated

I admit I do miss Connor but he should've told me what was going on between Jason and him but no he had to keep it from me
I put the phone down and finished my food
I pushed the tray table to the side and started to fall asleep
"I'm so sorry Mack" I opened my eyes and saw Aly crying
"Aly I'm not in a coma or anything"
"Mack you're okay" she hugged and cried on me
Sharp pain hit my stomach in an instant "Not right now you're hurting me"
"Oh I'm sorry" she got off and wiped her tears

I pushed the button on my bed to help me sit up she pulled out a monkey

"Okay Mack you have a lot of work to do" Jack said holding 3 text books and a lot of papers
"I miss that much in 2 days"
"No its not much really but remember you didn't go to class on Friday you missed a few that day"
"Okay then take a seat and lets start" I looked at my phone it was 3 pm
"So how's the stomach" Cera asked
"I haven't seen it yet" I said to them I picked up my gown the blanket covering my lap
It was still purple but getting smaller
"It doesn't look as bad as the first time I saw it" Cera said sitting on my bed
"Okay we're done" I said putting down my pencil
*Ring*Ring*
"Aren't you going to answer that Mack" Aly asked
I looked at the caller id "No" I let it go to voicemail
"Its Connor isn't it" Cera asked
"Yeah"
"Mackayla sweetie someone's here to see you" Roxy said peeking through the door
"Who is it"

"Jason what are you doing here"
"I heard you were in the hospital and I wanted to see if you're ok"
"Thanks for coming Jason but I'm fine"
"You don't look fine you're in the hospital Mack"
"Jason seriously I'm okay"
"Mack honey are you okay" my dad said coming in the room "Oh Jason you're here"
"Hi Mr. Martin"
"Wait I thought you said you guys broke up"
"We did dad he was stopping by thanks for coming Jason"

"There are to many people here looks like you're very popular Mackayla" Roxy said "Someone else is here to see you but there are to many people here only 1 at a time now"
"Okay we'll let the person outside see you now" Cera said getting up and grabbing Jacks hand
"We'll see you tomorrow Mack" she gave me a hug
"Bye nerd" Jack ruffled my hair
"Bye Mack" Aly said sobbing
"Aly I'm fine I'll see you tomorrow"
"Okay" she left with Cera and Jack
"Bye Mack" he leaned over to hug me

"Okay sweetie I'll be outside if you need me" he kissed my forehead then left

The person came in with a balloon cover his face a muffin basket in his left hand and a backpack in the other
"I'll be back later" Roxy said as she left
"Um do I know you" He set down the basket on the chair and tied the balloon at the foot of my bed "Connor"

He walked up next to me "I still have 3 assignment to turn in and you still have to help me"
"Okay lets get started then"

30mins of doing his assignments not even talking about what we were thinking but I think its better if we don't talk about it but then...
"I'm sorry princess its killing me, the silence please talk to me other than math"
"What is there to talk about Connor" I didn't even look up at him I was still writing

I was about to say something but I was cut off
"Sorry Mackayla but visiting hours are over" Roxy said as she fixed my covers
"I'll see you tomorrow princess" he kissed my forehead, I closed my eyes and felt a tear "I'm sorry" he whispered
He was packing his stuff but I didn't want him to leave

I looked around the room to see if Roxy was still here she wasn't
"At the party when Jason was punching Connor I tried to pull him off but he elbowed me really hard and I passed out"

"Calm down Mike he was taking care of me I didn't notice the bruise till 2 it didn't really hurt but when I got home from the carnival I passed out from the pain"

"There's nothing to watch" I said flipping through the channels you know being in a hospital is sooooo boring

"Okay then lets go I'm bored in here" she chuckled then left to get one for me
"Okay Mackayla do you want me to go with you" she asked as she wheeled it in

We got out of my room finally seeing other people and Maia was right it's fun seeing doctors and nurses freak out
"Um do you mind if I take her" I turned around to see my bestfriend standing with his hands in his pockets

"Here you go sweetie don't forget to get back to your room at 12" Roxy said

Chase started to push me around
"I'm sorry I didn't come yesterday I had some things to do"

"The end of the week I guess it's my punishment for going to a party with my parents out of town"
He chuckled "Yeah my mom was yelling at me when I woke up the day after"

"Both" we were laughing as people stared at us like we're retards "So you didn't tell me why you were running at the carnival"

Chase's dad got arrested for selling drugs he's been in for 2 years, I honestly don't think he would do that, Mr. Taylor was a nice man and was so nice to his family, I think someone framed him. Growing up I'd always go to Chase's house, he would watch us cause his shift at the airport didn't start til 8pm. He built a tree house for Chase and took us out to watch scary movies or ice cream. Mr. Taylor is a good man and I hope he gets out soon

Chase went to the food court cause he was tired of waiting for Connor me and Maia were just talking about school and her ex, apparently he sounded sweet but she just didn't feel it anymore

Connor groaned "She was watching a movie with her boyfriend and fell asleep with her boyfriend"

"I wanted to see how you were doing" he picked up the bouquet "And I brought you flowers"

"Then we went to the go carts"

I looked at Jason he had a confused look on his face
"I forgot to say that dad likes Connor, sorry must have slipped my mind oops" I looked at my dad he gave me 'that's not nice look' "So where's Mike"
"He's coming he just needed to do something"

"Wow there's a lot of people here" Dr. Damian said as he walked into the room "Mackayla I have good news"
"If it means getting out of here that would be the best news"
"Good cause you do"

"Yes, you seem to be healing properly so you get to go home later today but you have to be in a wheelchair for 1 week so you do hit your rib cage"
"That's fine at least I get to go home"
"Okay Mr. Martin I need you to sign some papers for me outside" they left the room
"You get to go home" Maia said with a big smile
"I know finally"
"This is great" Jason hugged me
I groaned "Jason my side"
He pulled away "Sorry"
"Congrates princess" Connor gave my a kiss on the cheek
"Okay Mack you should get ready to go we're leaving in a few your clothes are in the drawer" my dad said with his head peeping in
"Okay dad Maia can you help me" she nodded her head "you 2 should go" I pointed to the 2 boy sitting
"Okay I'll see you later princess" he gave me a peck on the lips "I'll be over tonight"
"As for me I'll be here til you get out"
"Na-uh Reed you go home"
"I agree Jason you should go home"

Finally I got home, man I missed it so much being the hospital for 4 days 2 days with being awake was so boring and my ex with my pretend boyfriend in 1 room was crazy.
My dad wheeled me inside it sucks that I have to be in a wheelchair for like a week
"WELCOME HOME MACKAYLA" was yelled at me when i got inside the living room. There was a banner, food, Jack, Cera, Aly, Mike, and Chase with big smiles
"Thanks you guys" it sucks how there were stairs going down to the living room so my dad had to take me out of the wheelchair while Mike brings it down to put me back onto it
"We're so glad you're out of the hospital" Aly said hugging me
"Aly my side" I said trying to breathe and hold in the pain
"Sorry" she pulled away
"The banner looks great"
"Thanks i spent 2 days working on it"
"Yeah she wouldn't let me help" Cera said coming over to me giving me a small hug
"Well it looks beautiful"
"Okay sweetie you should eat and go up to bed" dad said as he pushed me over to the dinning table
"Okay dad how am i going to go to school in a wheelchair"

"Dad, come on, I've been trapped in a hospital for 4 days please let me go"

"Dad won't let me go back to school"
"Why you miss the teacher's there" I gave him a deathly glare "I'm sorry"
"Dad please you can't keep me trapped in here"
"Mackayla I said no end of discussion"
"Dad it's just school it's not like I'm going to rob a bank or something"

"Mr. Martin if I may, I will protect her from any harm" Connor said putting his hand on mine

"Plus dad you're enrolling Maia in tomorrow and I'll be home alone with no one here to watch me"
"That's not true MIke doesn't have to go to school if he doesn't want to"
"DAD" Mike yelled across the table
"Dad that's not fair to Mike it's his senior year and he needs to take school seriously if he doesn't graduate it would be my fault"
"No now it's getting late you should go to bed"
"But dad" he got up put his plate in the sink and went upstairs

"Well I live like right across the street so I can stay awhile" Chase said sitting back
"Yeah you can help me clean up" Mike said pulling Chase out of his chair
"Well I'm going to get ready for tomorrow" Maia said getting up from her seat "Night Mack sorry you can't go to school"
"It's okay" she went upstairs when the close was clear I turned to Connor
"You have an idea don't you" I nodded my head he looked kind of scared
"You're coming over here early tomorrow"
"Why"
"You're taking me to school tomorrow"
"Princess why do you want to go to school tomorrow"
"I'm going to have to make up a lot of work and I don't want to do that"
