Aspen woke up from the slam of the front door. She looked around in fear it was Wes leaving but he was sound asleep curled around her. Trying not to wake him she lifted his arm up and slid off the couch, dressed quickly and ran upstairs to see who was there. At first she thought she might have just imagined it until she heard rustling in her parents room. As Aspen pushed opened the door she saw two open suitcases and her father throwing all of his belongings into them.

"D-d-addy?" she could barely speak.

Her father froze, how was he suppose to tell her this time that he's letting her down. He turned around and saw the tears already rolling down his beautiful daughter's face, he took a big breath and moved towards her.

"Please. Please, don't do this." she cried.

"Baby girl." he choked. "I don't have a choice this time. Your mother has been cheating on me and I can't do this anymore."

Aspen fell to her knees unable to stop crying. "Then why isn't she the one leaving? You can't do this to me. You promised you would never leave me."

Her father zipped up his last suit case and started moving towards the door. When Aspen refused to move he set his belongings beside the door and picked her up, moving her to the bed. He quickly moved back to his bags and disappeared down the steps. Aspen jumped up and jumped down the steps yelling as he was walking out the door.

"YOU CAN'T LEAVE ME HERE WITH THAT BITCH AGAIN. YOU FUCKING PROMISED THAT YOU WOULD NEVER LEAVE ME."

He glanced at his daughter one last time before shutting the door and leaving.

Aspen hit the foyer floor screaming at her father to come back but she knew he was gone. Wes raced into the foyer trying to figure out what just happened. He sat down beside Aspen and rubbed her back as she just sat there crying.

----

Later that day Aspen's mom and sister returned. Both of there eyes swollen from crying, her mother's searching for sympathy when Aspen stared at her.

"Come here Jor." was the only thing she said. Aspen swooped Jordyn into her arms and took her upstairs to her room. When she walked in Wes got up and said he was going to go but Aspen begged him to stay.

"I can't do this without you Wes. I need you now more than anything." Aspen paused before looking at Jordyn, she can't believe she was getting ready to do this to her sister. "Jordyn... I'm going to go stay at Wesley's for awhile. I'll be back soon, but until then you can call or text me whenever. I love you so much Jordyn." Aspen let go of her sister and stepped back to open her closet and grabbed her bags.

"Aspen... take me with you. I can't be here alone with her." Jordyn begged.

"Why, what happened between you two?"

"Mom's been sleeping with my coach. That's why I've been getting into all the big competition's lately."

Aspen's jaw hit the ground. "You're kidding right... No wonder dad left her." She sat there thinking about it but what would she do with Jordyn during the day? Jordyn's been home-schooled her whole life because of her gymnastics career. It's way too late to enroll her into public school, school's out in two months. She looked at Wes for any help but he just shrugged his shoulders. Just as Aspen was getting ready to speak her mom barged in.

"And where the hell do you think you're going?" Aspen could smell the alcohol from across the room. Her mom started walking towards her and she pushed Jordyn behind her towards Wes. Just as Aspen turned around her mother smacked her across the face.

"Unpack those bags you little worthless bitch, you're not going anywhere."

Wes grabbed Aspen to keep her from falling. She could feel the welt forming on her face and the anger boiling in her blood.

"Fuck you. You're the worthless one. I'm not the one sleeping around with my daughters coach to make sure she gets into the big league competitions. I get why dad left you, and now I'm taking Jordyn and getting the hell out of here too. She doesn't need to go through what I did the last time this happened. I refuse to let her get the shit beat out of her by her drunk of a mom."

Aspen grabbed Jordyn and motioned for Wes to get her bags. She made a move for the door but her mom was blocking it. Aspen put Jordyn down and pushed her mom into the hallway. Her mom made a move for her but she blocked it by kicking her moms feet out from under her. This was her only chance to get them out. Aspen yelled for them to run for it while she drug her mom towards her sisters room. Once she heard the door slam shut Aspen quickly threw her mom into her sisters room and ran for the garage. She jumped into her jeep and backed out far enough that Wes threw her bags in the back and Jordyn into the backseat.

"I'll meet you at your house." She yelled as Wes got into his car and sped off. Just as Aspen was backing into the street she saw her mom running out the front door towards them, she grabbed her phone and dialed "9-1-1-" handing it to Jordyn as she sped off down the street.

"9-1-1, what's your emergency?"

"Yes, this is Aspen Bartlett and I want to report my mother for abuse."

"Are you in a safe location?"

"I actually just grabbed my sister and we're heading to my boyfriends house so that I know she's safe."

"Ok Ms. Bartlett, can you explain to me what happened?"

"My father found out she was cheating on him with my little sisters gymnastics coach and he left her. Well my mom doesn't do good with rejection so she drinks and becomes abusive. She's never laid a hand on Jordyn but I refuse to live like again."

"What do you mean by again?"

"My father threaten to leave before and she became abusive towards me like she did today. I refuse to let her hit my little sister so I always take to brunt of it."

"How old are you?"

"I'm 17, I turn 18 in a few months. Listen, I can't take my sister back there and I don't have a clue to where my father is. I don't want to get in trouble for taking my sister and getting out of there."

"Are you at your destination yet?"

"I just turned on to his street."

"What's the address Miss?"

"4508 Beach Circle."

"I'm sending an officer to your location now to get a report. In the mean time try to get in contact with your father. Do you both have a place to stay for the night?"

"Yes ma'am. My boyfriend's mother has agreed to let us stay here."

"Ok Ms. Bartlett, stay inside and the officer will be there shortly."

"Thank you." Aspen hung up the phone and stared at her sister. "We'll get your things later, lets get you inside."

They both got out of the car and Aspen was immediately met by Wes's arms.  She let go and picked Jordyn up while Wes and Drew grabbed her bags. Once inside she saw everyone there and felt a huge weight lift from her shoulders. Just as Aspen sat down to take a breather her phone rang.

"Where are you?"

"Safe from you."

"Get back here before I call the police saying you kidnapped my daughter."

"I already called the police. In fact the officer just got here to get my statement. Goodbye mother." Aspen hit end and threw her phone across the room. But just like Aspen said the officer had just arrived and it was time to get this over with.

After getting both Aspen, Jordyn's, and Wesley's statements the officer pulled Aspen aside.

"Have you got in contact with your father yet?"

"Not yet. I'm going to call the stadium and see if they know where he is. You're not going to take Jordyn away from me are you?"

"No ma'am, not yet at least. I'm going to head back to the station and talk to my chief. Here's my number if anything happens Ms. Bartlett."

"Thank you officer Johnson."

Once he was gone Aspen grabbed her phone and clicked his name. It seemed to ring forever but on the final ring a voice picked up.

"Aspen?"

She could hear the worry in his voice and had to take a breath.

"Aspen, what happened?"

"I need to you come to Wesley's house right now. You need to come get Jordyn."

"What do you mean come get..." her father froze in mid-sentence knowing the answer. "Are you hurt? Is Jordyn ok?"

"Jordyn is fine, I'll be sporting a nice bruise on my face for the next few days but other than that I'll be fine. Daddy, I can't take her back there. The cops are involved, I didn't want to get in trouble for taking my sister and getting out of there."

"Alright Asp, I'm on my way there now. If your mother tries to contact you again just ignore her. Love you Aspen."

"Love you too, Daddy."

She stood in the door way into the living room to find Jordyn laughing at Drew. Laraine came up beside her and squeezed her shoulder.

"Thanks for letting me stay here."

"You're always welcomed here Aspen." she smiled and walked into the living room. Aspen followed behind her and curled up into Wes's lap drifting to sleep.

---

This time when she woke she found the room empty except for her, Wes, Jordyn, and her father.

"Hey there sleepy head." Wes said kissing her forehead.

"Hey." she smiled. Aspen looked up finding her dad's eyes on her. "Thank you for coming back."

Her father stood up and waited for her to get up. Once she was on her two feet her pulled her into his arms and apologized for leaving her again. "Aspen, I'm so sorry I left like that and thank you for protecting your sister." He let her go and stepped back.

"Dad, I would never let her touch Jordyn. Look, I have to go back to school and I don't know what to do with her."

"Don't worry about it, while you were asleep the cops came and arrested your mom. She's being held in a rehab center till she sobers up. She'll be there for awhile, our divorce is already in process and when she gets out the restraining order will be in affect."

"Restraining order?"

"Yes, I don't want her around any of us. I have gave her enough money to get her up and on her feet once she's released from rehab but other than that I'm done with her. I'm going to take Jordyn and go back home. Come back when you're ready baby girl."

"Thanks daddy. I think I just need a few days to process everything."

"I understand Asp. See you soon and I love you."

"Ok, I love you too." Aspen gave her dad and sister a hug before they walked out the door. She turned and looked at Wes sitting on the couch.

"What's going on in that head of yours?" he asked.

"Lets go for a surf and I'll tell you." she grinned.

Once in the water Aspen looked at Wes. "You asked what's going on inside my head.. well, I've replayed everything in my head and I've never been this happy with someone or felt safe. You've changed my life around for the better Wes."

Wes looked at her and smiled. "Same here baby."
