Chapter Eight

Training is killing us.

And not that I mean to sound selfish here, but I think it is killing me most of all. Aside from the fact that my one form of entertainment and, lets be honest, joy has left, I pretty much am doing double the work as everyone else.

Don't get me wrong, this is an experience that I would not want to pass up. Its just we are working super hard, long days. And yes I know, that description was a bit dirty, but get your mind out of the gutter.

As I was saying, we are busy sun up to sun down, all week long. No more weekends off. Our breaks are only 30 minutes long for breakfast, lunch and dinner. As for free time, that's when we sleep. So when you add the fact that I am helping the officers train the other recruits while also learning new things myself, well you can understand where I'm coming from, right?

So we have weights still in the mornings, then we have training classes, like navigation and history and such, then we have our modules after dinner. What was to span out for another few months is being crammed together. We used to just have one or two training classes a week and then the rest was hands on training in our module ships. All of which was usually finished before dinner.

I only help out during the training modules, seen as I still have to learn everything in the classes like the rest of them. And our new training officer, Officer Handley, was right, this did substitute for my extra training. Because I not only have to think quickly how to handle my dilemmas in the ship but also help out others with theirs.

At the moment, we are all in our training ships.

“I'm quite impressed with your level of skill, Falcon.” I felt the emptiness in my chest, when the voice over my coms was not that of my old officer.

'Thanks Officer Handley, sir.” I mumbled trying to focus on the mod and not these stupid feelings. I really hope he doesn't notice how depressed my voice sounds.

Its not often that I allow myself to think of a certain cocky pilot. Usually I don't even have the time to think about anything but becoming a fighter pilot. But when I'm in my ship and focused on shooting, that first indication of a voice over the coms always gets me excited. My first thought is always of him.

“No joke, its pretty impressive. But anyway, I'm patching you into Stevens module. He needs some assistance.” My com went dead for a second. Great. Grady.

Thankfully he hasn't said or done anything to me, but I am assuming that is only because if he gets caught, then he'll get kicked out. He does how ever, constantly give me dirty looks and shit-tastic tones.

“COME ON!” Whelp, the coms are back on and I'm listening to Grady yell.

“This is Falcon.” I said, trying to stay calm, I know whats going to happen next.

“What do you want, Falcon. I do need you! I can handle myself!”

I couldn't help the sigh. “Come on, just let me help if I can.”

“Stevens is having issues with his reactivation of armor according to the read outs.” Oh Officer Handley, nothing like forcing some to get help they don't want.

“Got it, sir.” Ok, think, think, shoot, shoot, think. “Alright Grady, have you tried flipping off the armor switch while its recharging?”

“Of course I have! That's the first thing we learned about the recharging!”

“Ok, ok,” Shit, almost missed that one, “How about dropping the power to your gun shields, maybe it doesn't have enough power to activate?” Most people forget that our guns have their own defense, I know I do.

“YES!” At Grady's roar I assumed that was it. But then, to my utter shock, came a grudging reply of “Thanks, Falcon.”

Wow, Grady Stevens, the man who probably hates me most in the universe, just thanked me. Yeah, yeah, I know what your thinking, he didn't want to, but still. I couldn't help the smile knowing that I helped someone out when they needed me.

“Nice job, Falcon. I knew you'd be able to help him. Officer Foxer was right when he recommended you.”

Logan.

Gosh, just hearing his name makes me think of that face, that body. And, yeah, before you ask, I still have that image of him in the shower, forever on replay, in my mind. Not that it bothers me. Not one bit.

Wait, Logan recommended me for this? Wow. That's just. Awesome. His praise alone could get me into the Rangers, really. Being that he is their best, they'd want to listen to him. Right? And once they found out about my helping to train the other recruits, while still in training myself, they'd for sure want me.

At least I hope so.

I can just see that cocky grin of his, though, just taunting me. Helped you out again, didn't I, Falcon.

[oh man!  I probably could have waited until the next chapter to say this but YAY haha you guys bumbed this story up so much that it is #15 in Sci Fi and it made it onto the What's Hot List!!!!!!  I just love you guys!!!!!  May<3]
