Poe's POV
"Almost got it...almost" I muttered as I struggled in screwing the main reactor to Finn's ship. "There you go bud."
"God, thanks bro. I knew I can count on you." Finn released a sigh of relief.
"Why didn't you asked Rey to fix this?" I asked as I wipe my hands on the cloth.
"I'm shy, plus she's a girl."
"That's some sexist shit you got right there." I pointed out.
"Screw you dude. Where are you going anyways?" Finn asked.
"Cloud's" I smiled.
"Are you Anais' father? Tell me honestly bro." His eyebrows furrowed.
"What? No. That's impossible. Ani has a big nose. And very pale complexion." I explained.
"Then why are you visiting them every month?"
"Because I care for them. Because Ani is like my own daughter you know. And Cloud, she's my best friend since I don't know when. And she's my first love." I smiled to the thought of it. I remembered us faking a relationship and ending up sharing our first kisses. "But none of it really matters now. We're just platonic."
Finn nodded. "Oh that's why. So who's Ani's dad? Anais is a great and strong kid. That kid will grow up as pretty as her mother with her long nose and...." He paused for a while and spoke again "crap."
"What?" I asked.
"Is Kylo Ren....that father?" His voice shocked.
I nodded. "Yeah. But Cloud calls him Ben—his real name. Ahh...that boy was a very blessed person. Cloud loved him ever since we were in kindergarten"
"I hope that little girl won't take after his father."
"Cloud's taking care of that"I pat his shoulders and walked away the hangar.
I walked to the hill where I usually rest and spend a few minutes before going to Cloud's on the afternoon. I grabbed my soda and opened it and enjoyed a good view from the lake.
As I was looking at the sky, an escape pod crashed on the depths of the hill. I quickly ran to it, worrying someone's might be injured. As i got close to the escape pod, I recognized it quickly.
It was the first order's escape pod. Someone must've escaped from them and knew the base. But we didn't sent anyone on mission lately since Han Solo died. So this must've been a first order staff or trooper.
i held out my blaster and pointed it to the escape pod and removed the glass of the pod.
"Reveal yourself!!" I yelled out.
"H-help..." A voice of a man cried out, his face was full of bruises and he was hurt badly.
I can't move much because i was terrified of the man who gave me nightmares ever since he abducted me.
He was Kylo Ren.
"Kylo..." I whispered to him. Still careful and wary. "What brought you here?"
"The call...to the...light..." He coughed blood.
He wasn't wearing his mask. Not even his cloak. Or that giant dress.
But all he wore was a black shirt and a black pants.
I didn't trusted him. I was scared it was a mere foolish trap. But for some reason, I actually think I would do the right thing to do; and it was saving him.
I pulled him out of the escape pod carefully and put his arms around me. "Hang in there, bud"
He didn't replied because he was losing consciousness. He was getting much more heavier. "Hey..hey..hey...Kyl—Ben..." The foreignness of his name made me stop my tracks. "Yeah... Ben...hang in there, stay awake. Your daughter would be delighted to see you."
"But not...like this..." He coughed more.
"Sshh...of course... Of course... I just mean, save your strength , pal." I smiled at him.
We reached the main base. I don't know if it's the right decision because I'm showing the enemy the secret base. But I can see that he isn't an enemy anymore. I can feel it.
People looking at us and rushing over us. Some are stopped by their tracks. Especially finn.
"We need a medical capsule here right now!!!!" I yelled.
"What are you doing with him?! Are you betraying us!?" Rey said, her eyes are full of fury.
"He's injured badly. And i need to do the oath of the resistance—Help those who are in need." I smiled at her and laid Ben in the medical capsule. "Hang in there, bud." I touched his shoulders and watched him get taken away by the med team.
"Poe, are you nuts!?" Finn said, rushing to me.
"Look, I'm not going to say it twice. And i hate it when people tries to make me say stuffs twice" i smiled ane held my fingers up to them nd slowly moved away.
People in the base are looking at me, they are probably wondering why I did that. But like what I said, i won't say it twice.
"General Leia." I called out to her.
"Yes, Poe?" She turned around from the computers.
"He came home."
Her emotionless face turned to something indescribable—a mixture of fear, worry and happiness swirling inside her.
"Bring me to him." Was all she said and we made our way to the medbay.
"He's stable now. He lost alot of blood. He is injured before he escaped. And his wound on his chest stopped bleeding now." Xyrom said, standing im front of the doorways
"Can we see him?" General Leia asked—No, its more like a plea. A mother's plea to see his child. A mother's desperate wish to see his child and cradle him into his arms like he was five years old and scared of the lightning.
Seeing him like that must've caused the general too much pain in her heart. "I was actually hoping to see him someday you know, but not like this."
"He crashed near our base." I said.
"Near our base?"
"Yes general." I replied.
"I don't know what to do..." She sighed
"He's fine now..." I said.
"No, about Cloud. When he wakes up, he will be looking for Cloud and Anais. "I don't want to brea my promise to her. I told her I won't tell Ben where she is. It isn't just a request Poe. It was a desperate plea. A desperate, fearful plea"
I sighed. Unsure what to do.
"I'll tell Cloud."i said.
"No, let Ben tell her.we still don't know if Ben is still with the First Order. Let Ben explain everything."
I was relieved from all my duties. To watch over Ben who was still weak. I wasn't sure if I made the right decision though. Rey embarked on a journey to find Luke Skywalker in Ach to island. And Finn was out training.
"C-cloud..." He breathed out.
I quickly turned around and checked his vitals.
"Dude, I'm not a girl." I chuckled.
"Poe? Where's Cloud?" He said and tried to stand.
"Whoa there, you're still weak. Try to lay back. Don't force yourself." I said and laid him down.
"So why are you here? What brought you here? In the enemies' base?" I asked.
"After I defeated my father, I thought proving my loyalty and worth to Supreme Leader Snoke would fulfill me. But I was wrong. There was a hole inside me that cannot be used filled by dead bodies and power. Then one day, someone spoke to me, the voice who was speaking to me ever since I joined the first order. Turns out it was grandpa, it was Anakin Skywalker. He told me everything, that the supreme leader was only toying me. And only using me for power, that I don't have to make the same mistake he made and lose the woman and children that he loved the most. I told Supreme Leader what my grandpa told me. And then I told him if it was true, I'm going to leave the first order. But he didn't let me go that easily. I was beaten up a few times by those storm troopers. I was tortured. But I managed to escape as long as I located the resistance base. And now, I need to see my child, and Cloud." He explained
I gave him a pat on the shoulders. "The decision you made, was right. And I can't be more proud of you. It's a big step you did back there. You're safe here bud, no one would harm you. And if they do they'll have to cross me first."
"Whatever happened between us?" He smiled and looked down. "We were best friends.—Cloud, you and me. What had gone wrong? Did we just drifted apart?"
"You abducted me." I joked and he cracked a laugh too. "Do you want the truth? But please don't punch me or force choke me or anything."
"Of course. I won't it's been years since we practically spoke normally to each other." He replied.
"The reason is... I loved Cloud. And also, Xloud started loving you. I decided to, you know. Distance abit from her and you because it hurt me back then. But Cloud decided to join me and just spy at you from a distance. It's quite pathetic, I know. Being stuck in the friend zone. Don't worry pal, it was a long time ago." I laughed because it was way too long.
He mustered up a smile. "I know that. You loved her. And there was some stuff inside me that told me to treat you like a competition and a threat. Because you're a great pilot, and much more closer to Cloud. And you got this cute nicknames and you get to kiss her forehead every dtime you guys part away. While I'm this nerdy, tall buffoon who was just starting to train as a jedi. And in fact, I also fancied her. But I kept it hidden because I know i don't got the chance to be with her and you're with her that night. In thanksgiving. She kissed you."
"But you won her over. And hell you two meant to be together. " I chuckled and looked at my clock.
"I need to clean up BB-8..." I said. "I'll catch up with ya later pal." I winked and stood up.
"Hey, Poe." He called out, looking at his med gown. "Thank you, and sorry."
"No problem, hey I'm going to call your mother okay?" I replied.
"Please do." He smiled, like a kid who just came back from a summer camp who was desperate to see his mother.
Ben explained to everyone what,why and how he did everything. But some of us were still unsure of trusting a man who was the sole purpose of their fight. But nsome of us saw the light in Ben's eyes that shed us some hope into defeating the first order.
General Leia was still stoic around his son, Ben knew the reason why. He told me that he would give anything to turn back time and do what's right.
Sometimes he would ask about Cloud, but I would just brush off the thoughts in my head. But one day,he read my mind, he knew that Cloud was in Castell system hiding from him.
He felt so lonely but excited and happy. He was dying to see his daughter and love of his life. I offered to come but Ben told me that he should come alone. Or else Cloud would get mad as hell. So he embarked on a journey to Castell system.
And a week after that, someone came back too.
