The next morning was Saturday. I woke up with a heavy head and was probably getting a cold; I had a runny nose.
I made my way down the stairs and wondered why the house was so quiet.
I had left my phone downstairs over the night and went to check on it, I had a message from my mom saying that they would spend the night in town because they were really busy and had something going on but she didn't mention what.
The silhouette of yesterday had been forgotten.
I started to rummage in the fridge for something to eat, I noticed I was so hungry.
I found a few leftover pancakes from yesterday's breakfast and heated them, while eating, it was so quiet I switched on some music and that just lightened my mood.
I ran around the house singing to the songs that came and cleaned up a bit when I among all the noise heard my phone ringing.
I picked it up it was my best friend Layla Jennings
"Hey Lay what's up" I answered.
"Hi how are you I was gonna see what you where doing?" Layla was always cheerful everybody liked her she had like no enemies and was everybody's friend, sometimes it made me jealous.
"I'm doing nothing, I'm home alone my parents are at work and I'm stuck at home I have no idea what to do" I said with a pout on my face.
" You know what, I'm coming over how does that sound?" Layla squealed.
I was excited "Oh yay please do, can you?"
"Oh yes I can, my parents aren't home either I'll be there in no time"Layla hung up the phone without saying another word, I knew she would soon be here it was only five minutes driving from her house to mine.
I ran upstairs and changed out of my pajamas I was sure Layla would be dressed up like she was going out.
I had a friend that loved and lived style and fashion. I grabbed a pair of dark leggings and a comfortable shirt and I was done, my hair I had strung back in a lazy pony tail and then I heard her pull up in the driveway.
I raced downstairs to reach the door before she did.
Just as I opened the door she had raised her hand to knock.
"Hey there you are " Lay pulled me in for a quick hug and then we went inside.
"So what do you wanna do" I asked her.
Layla looked at me and smiled,
" What do you think, I thought about that we could maybe well I don't know do whatever at your house and then later hike in the forest" she said with a sweet smile.
Layla was my only friend that I could share my love of the forest with. We had spent hours having picnics close to the lake or just hike around.
"Oh yes let's do that, just we have to take care cuz yesterday I was caught by rain and I had to walk back when it was already dark, dang that was freaky" I told her but I kept the part where I had totally relaxed and forgotten that I was cold to myself.
"Oh what did you do?" She asked with a worried look.
"Remember the small cave I once found I waited in there till it passed away"I answered her question.
" Oh I'm glad you where able to find shelter I bet it wasn't very nice being in the rain" she said.
We went on talking more about school, we where having an English test for Monday and it was weird because we never had a test to study during weekend but Mr. Hathaway our teacher must be thinking something else this time.
"What are you doing Sunday?" Lay asked me.
"Well I was gonna ask you the same" she was the only girl I actually liked to hang with alone all day.
"Uhm, you know Leo asked if we wanted to hang out" she said slowly.
My mouth hung open "Really he did? I said my voice full of excitement, "Well of course we want to" I said still not believing that Leo had asked that.
"Uhm well he asked if I wanted to go get a coffee with him, he didn't mention you" she said quietly her eyes casting downward.
Ouch! That stung. Layla knew I was into Leo the cuttest and hottest guy from school in my opinion, and now he had asked my best friend out, I couldn't help but feel my heart hurt.
"Oh" I said looking away not wanting to show her my emotional face "you do that then."
" Hey I know you like him I won't go if you don't want me to" she said touching my shoulder.
"Do you want to?" I asked, having regained my posture.
"Well...I...uhm." She stammered.
"Answer me honestly " I challenged her.
"Yes I do" she said with guilt on her face.
"Well then you go" I said hiding my hurt.
I knew my friend was prettier then me with her long blond hair and beautiful hazel eyes but this just pained me and pissed me off. I wouldn't say anything to her and wasn't that kind of girl that tried to get in between somebody.
Suddenly Layla's phone chimed and she answered, it sounded like her mother.
"My mom just told me to come home she said we could hang some other time, and I'm sorry but, I just would like to hang with Leo this time" she said biting her lip.
"Oh its fine" I lied " you go and have fun."
" Ok well I'll go then oh and sorry we'll do the hiking another day then."
" Yeah sure" I added with a fake smile she hugged me and went outside.
'Girl you just had to ruin this for me right? Leo and me where becoming better friends in class and now this huh? Dang'
I was close to tears and that irritated me even more I was not a cry baby but this was my best friend who did this to me I would never have done something like that to her.
I guess she had been secretly into him too. I wondered how our friendship would go on from now. I wasn't sure if I could look at her the same way I used to. This didn't sound like her at all, Layla would usually not be like this.
I decided I would go on my own for the hike. I almost laughed at the thought that if Layla's Mom had known that it was awkward between us right at that moment she called.
Not wanting to think further about it, I went to fetch a light jacket just in case and put on my small comfortable boots.
Once my earphones where set I was off with a fast walk. I went straight to the lake,the woods where beautiful still damp from yesterday's shower.
I calmed down instantly, almost forgetting Leo and Layla though they where somewhere nudging me at the back of my mind but I tried to push them away it didn't really work but I tried to anyhow.
I scowled myself for hurting over that but I couldn't help myself, Layla had kicked me in a soft spot.
I broke into a slow run wanting to arrive to my destiny faster.
Suddenly I wittered the same fast movement beside me as the day before. I stopped short and looked around me but I couldn't see anything out of place; picking up my pace I decided I wouldn't stop for something like that again.
Luckily I got to the lake without any similar incidents I sought out my favorite spot to sit down and relaxed, this was the place where I didn't allow anything stressful bother me.
Today was Saturday and I wasn't sure what I'd do on Sunday since Lay... 'oh shut up don't go no further I will think about stuff to do on Sunday later now I'll relax.'
I watched how a doe poked its head through a bush to my right, when she didn't see anything dangerous she came out. She had a big belly bump and I assumed that she was pregnant.
The doe went to the water and carefully lowered her head to drink, after a while her head shot up and she looked in the direction opposite from her she let out a screech and disappeared the next instant. Birds fluttered and flew away from the spot she had stared at and I heard the scream of a scared squirrel.
That perked my full attention. I was really curious as to what that could be. I had not heard about or seen a vicious animal around these parts.
I looked at the sky the sun would set soon and I would not be able to make it to there and back before darkness would fall, instead I sat there a little longer staring at the same place.
I knew I should be getting home but I was so curious I had to stay a little longer but I didn't see anything unfamiliar.
As I rose to go home the sun was just setting. I looked around once more and thought my eyes had caught a dark shadow opposite from me but when I looked again I couldn't see anything there wasn't much light, adding the distance the lake put between me and that place. And then the silhouette of yesterday came to my mind and I started to make my way home.
This place was scaring me once again. I walked fast, I looked to the sky and was glad to see that I would not be caught by rain again.
All of a sudden it became darker a visible notch and I wondered what it was that couldn't be possible so fast but then I heard very distant thunder rumble and I was surprised for I had thought it wouldn't rain today so I figured the sun must've been hidden by a cloud that raised from the mountains.
I accelerated my pace.
No way was I going to allow myself being here alone while dark again.
I remembered how I had felt that I was not being alone and then: speaking of the devil the feeling hit me again.
This time I freaked out, stopping and looking around me, I found nothing.
'Girl you're crazy there's nothing here. What's you problem you've been here so so many times its all fine.'
Again I heard that sweep of something fast passing this time behind me I swirled around.
Nothing.
Just as I was about to walk on, I felt a something grabbing my waist from behind . I looked down,
And froze.
Two hands covered in black leather gloves at my waist, holding me where I was.
An ice cold chill ran through me. I couldn't move I was paralyzed, I tried to scream but nothing would come out. My throat was sealed.
Something was way off with me why wasn't I able to move, it was as if a certain power held me... I was not even able to blink.
One of the hands started traveling up my body and snaked around me pushing me into a hard chest.
I wanted to scream,
But I couldn't.
I wanted to break free and run,
But I didn't.
The other hand came up and tilted my neck to one side
'What the hell?'
I wanted to yell that but I could just form thoughts not bring them out.
I felt a warm breath and then a pair of ice cold lips pressed down on my skin.
The lips nudged at a certain spot and then something sharp scraped along my delicate skin.
Suddenly pain erupted in my neck, something tore through my flesh deeper and deeper, it was unbearable.
And then I screamed, screamed in pure agony it was pain I had never felt before so strange and unnatural.
The louder I screamed the more intensely it burned in my neck. My mind didn't function the way it was supposed to be. The pain was overwhelming.
Heat and fire seeped into my veins leaving me squirming and gasping for air.
At that moment I was slightly aware that I was still being held because I felt pressure around my torso and hot breath on my neck though it was faint beside all the pain.
Then suddenly the head was gone from my neck and I felt something warm trickle down my chest but I couldn't move; My whole body started to hurt.
Two hands wrapped around me and the head came to the other side of my neck, lips grazed my ears and I heard the velvetines voice I've ever heard speaking,
"Welcome to your new world, Avery Jay."
And then I knew no more...
