_*_yOuR p.O.v._*_

I slowly got up from the couch as I heard Toriel enter the living room. I moved to the side to let Toriel sit down, since she looked exhausted.

"Is something wrong, Toriel?" I cautiously asked, sitting down on the carpet cross-legged by the fireplace. I had lit it up while she was gone to keep the place warm.

"Oh, my child, today was...how should I put this...not so nice. Today one resident left the ruins. Leaving me alone once again." She sighed and put a hand on her forehead. "They always do."

Toriel sniffled and wiped her tear away with a handkerchief. Seeing her sad tugged my heart strings and I myself almost started to cry. But in order to make her feel better, I should stay strong. For a while, I just sat there, thinking about what she said. "One resident left the ruins....they always do." What's that all about? Was there someone else living here? Maybe they disliked my presence and decided to leave?

I glanced at Toriel who seemed to have calmed down. I bit my lip while thinking of what to say, because this was getting uncomfortable.
"Toriel?"

"Yes, child?"

"I...won't leave you like that someone did." I gave her a soft smile. What I was speaking was the truth. It's not like I have anywhere else to go. With my memory gone, there's not much I can do. And who knows, my memory might not return. What's the point leaving this house? I don't wish to meet any new monsters.

"Oh, thank you so much." Toriel smiles. "I promise to take good care of you. You'll be safe here."

I nodded and got up. I walked over to Toriel and hugged her. At least I can make her feel better by staying here. It's sad to see someone sob over someone who gave her the cold shoulder. Toriel seemed surprised, as she didn't expect the hug.

"Thank you, thank you so much." She hugged me back, wrapping her furry paws around me. She was warm and all of a sudden I find myself sleeping in her lap.

-:-One week later-:-

I was happily eating breakfast with Toriel at the other end of the table. As always, I was eating her amazing pie. What could be better than this?

Slowly I grew to love this place. At first, I thought I would miss whatever life I had, but with no memories, I didn't even think about it. My goal was to get my memory back, but now that I think about it, I don't really need it. I can stay here, where I'll be safe under Toriel's wings. I can start out fresh.

Though, Toriel didn't allow me to go outside. But she has her reasons. She said that the monsters out there would kidnap any human they'd see. I wouldn't want that, so I can live without going outside.

Life right now is great. I love this.

-:-Another week later-:-

Pie in the breakfast, cupcakes as lunch, and possibly cake at dinner.

I sighed. Two weeks in Toriel's house. It's still very nice, she takes care of me, I don't have to worry about anything, she does everything for me. Everyone's dream, am I right? But this is getting like a routine.

Wake up, eat, read, sleep.
Wake up, eat, read, sleep
And repeat...

And...repeat.

Every day. It's the same thing. Toriel seems happy with me being around. She said 'at least she isn't alone anymore'. Well, at least she's happy.

"Tori...el?" Gosh, nearly called her by the nickname that stranger gave her. She walked in my room and sat besides me on my bed.

"Yes, my child?" She gave me a motherly hug and smiled sweetly.

"Remind me...why can't I go outside?" Yes, I wish I could go outside. I'd be happy if I could go walk around in the backyard. Staying inside made me look pale due to not having enough contact with the sun.

"Oh, sweetheart...the monsters outside aren't as nice as me. They hate humans and kill everyone they see. The have big, sharp teeth. Long claws. They're all black. Bloodthirsty animals who don't have emotions and feelings." Toriel said and I sighed. That's why I can't go outside.

Toriel seemed to notice my sadness and quickly gave me an another hug. "I..just want you to be safe."

"I know...and I'm greatful for what you're doing for me. You're taking care of me...like a mother." It's the first time I've used this word. 'Mother'... Toriel really did seem like a great mother but..why did everyone else she meet leave her and never come back?

"I'm happy to help you out."

"Toriel?"

"Yes?"

"I...it's nothing" I decided against asking her about going outside disguised as a monster. That's stupid. When did I ever think of that?

She gave me a confused look but brushed it off.
"You can tell me anything, okay? I have to go and do some errands now, I'll see you soon."

With that, she was gone.

Right...'see you soon'. That's what she tells me every day. Leaves at morning, is back at lunch and then reads. And then leaves again.

Will this go on forever?

-:-Two weeks later-:-

I'm sick of this. Every day is the same. I'm exhausted, not because I have been doing stuff, but because there's nothing to do. I've read a lot of books about random stories that won't affect me, I've re-decorated my room 10 times out of boredom, I've eaten pies and cakes for the last 4 weeks.

I can't take this anymore. It's torture.
Today, is gonna be the day ill leave the ruins.

I know this will crush Toriel's heart, but I can't keep on living like this. It's not the lifestyle I wish to have. I want to go outside and explore the Underground, because what else can a girl with no memories do? I can't sit inside all my life and just...stare out the window.

I put on my fuchsia and light gray sweater Toriel gave me the first day I came here, black pants and some gray sneakers Toriel had gotten me. I put on my black backpack which was filled with snacks and water. Also a map I found in one of the books. I was ready.

I took in a deep breath and waked downstairs to the living room. Toriel was reading what seemed like a newspaper. She looked at me and immediately stood up.

"W-What do you think you're doing?" She asked in a hurried/scared tone.

"Toriel, I...I wish to leave the ruins. Before you say no, I know what dangers I'll meet out there. I can take care of myself. I want to go, I can't live like this anymore. I'm sorry I broke my promise. I'm sorry I wasn't the perfect child you wanted me to be." I pinched myself to keep myself from crying as I saw tears in Toriel's eyes. I had let her down, broke her heart.

She was shaking. Tears will from her eyes as she dropped her head. "I gave you everything you needed. Yet, you still want to leave. I won't let you!" She stormed past me and I tried to follow her as fast as I could. She sure walks fast..

"Toriel! Where are you going?" I called out as she passed through a door. I followed her as fast as I could. "I'm sorry!"

"I won't let you! I will destroy the gate and no one shall leave again!" I heard her say from the distance. Her voice was filled with anger and with sadness.

"Toriel, please listen to me..!" I cough up with her, only to see her blocking the gateway. The gates were large, with a strange symbol on top of them. One column at each side of the gateway.

"You naive child! Everyone who leaves the ruins, they never return! They die! Asgore spares no one!" She says, in a cold tone. "I'm only protecting you, do you understand? ....go to your room."

I blink..did she just.. I stay in my place, not moving a muscle. "Who is-"

"Don't try to stop me." She turned her attention to the door. "This is your final warning." Toriel raised her hands and looked back at me. Seeing I wasn't going anywhere, she snarled.

"You want to leave so badly? Hmph. You are just like the others. There is only one solution for this. Prove yourself..." Toriel turned back to me. The motherly warmth was gone, it was replaced by a cold feeling. A feeling I don't like.

"What do you mean?" I ask, stepping closer.

"Prove to me you are strong enough to survive."

Her words echoed around the small room. The lights switched off, and I couldn't see anything. I felt a strange feeling in my chest. I glanced down and saw a heart. Not a real heart, but a heart who's shape is a <3. It was changing color to light blue, red, green, violet, yellow and black. It stayed there on my chest as I backed away. I didn't know what to do.

Toriel gasped as she stared at my heart.
"I've..I've never seen this before.." She whispered to herself. But she shook her head and regained her posture. She raised her hands and literal fire balls were created right above her hands from no where. "Fight me."

"No! I won't fight you! I won't hurt you. I can't." I said and backed away more. I saw the hurt and anger in her eyes as she readied her attack. Was she really going to hurt me? Suddenly, the fireballs flew towards me. I tried to dodge as many as I could, but some still hit me. It stings badly, but just for a few seconds.

"Toriel I won't fight you!"

"....." She doesn't speak but with tears in her eyes, she launches one of her fire balls at me again. This time, the pattern was more complicated. Backwards...towards...to the side. Stay put. It's kind of like...a puzzle.

"Please don't do this." I whisper, as my heart starts to ache more and more with each hit. She doesn't respond and two fire hands launch towards me. I am quick to react and jump to the side. I dodge them, but fall painfully on my side.

"Attack or run away."

Another set of fireballs. I quickly roll away from them, which was successful. I stand up and press my back against the wall. "I won't fight you."

"What are you proving this way?"

I dodge her attack. "That you don't have to fight. You can talk this out without using violence!"

"S-Stop looking at me that way."

Dodge. One hit.

"Please go upstairs, I promise to take good care of you. I know we don't have much but..we can have a good life here. Why...why are you making this so difficult?"

I don't respond. I clutch my left side as it still is hurting from the fall. I chose not to respond, as I am out of words to say. Toriel lowers her hands and looks away.

"Ha ha...I can't save a single child..I understand you. You must be unhappy being trapped under here." The room fills with light and Toriel steps aside. "If you exit, then I ask you to not come back. Good luck, my child."

"Thank you so much. I...I.."

Toriel leaned down and hugged me tightly. She sniffled and ruffled my hair. Once she let go, Toriel walked away. But before she truly left, she glanced at me one more time.

For a while, I kept staring at the gates. Should I really go? Maybe I should stay here, where it is safe. Here, I won't have to worry about anything. No, I must go. I'm sorry, Toriel, I wish we could have worked it out differently

What happened today was something. What was that glowing heart I had? Why did Toriel pay so much attention to it? What is this place..

With a deep breath, I pushed open the gates.
