I breathe a giant sigh of relief as we arrive to the bathroom. Paul's managed to sit himself up against the wall, but is still bleeding heavily.
I can't imagine the amount of pain he must be in.
The doctor tends to Paul's wounds, carefully removing the shards of glass and cleaning the bloody mess. As he begins to finish up, Paul looks at me, then down to my hands.
"Essie, you're bleeding."
I look down at my hands in surprise. In the rush to get Doctor Martin for Paul, I'd completely forgotten that I'd been slightly cut by the glass as well.
"I'm fine," I shake my head.
"Nonsense," Doctor Martin steps away from Paul. "I've just finished him up, now let me look at your hands."
I reluctantly agree and he tells me to sit on the toilet. As he tends to my wounds, I look up at Paul.
Is that a look of...disappointment on his face?
