"A foreign student? You have to be kidding me," Percy crumbled up the newspaper in his hand and looked in disbelief at his friend, Piper.
"Yeah I guess we are getting some exchange students. OO! Maybe they can speak French!" Piper's eyes began to light up. She grabbed the sad crumpled up piece of paper and frantically scanned it for any signs of nationality. Her smile faded away.
Percy grabbed the paper back. "What, what?"
She pointed to a paragraph in the student paper. "See, they are from Germany. No France." She tossed the paper into the waste bin of the messy dorm.
"Oh, I thought it was something else."
"Well this will be boring."
"Got that right. Where will they be staying anyways?"
Piper gave him an incredulous look. "Um, the dorms with us, stupid. They need somewhere to live and study."
"No!"
"What's the big deal?"
Percy waved his hands. "The bid deal! The big deal is the only language I know how to speak is English! And sometimes even I mess that up!"
"You know Greek." Piper pointed out.
"Oh, right! I can totally make a conversation with a German student while speaking Greek. Brilliant!"
"Ok Mr.Grumpy Gills,"
"Grumpy Gills?"
Piper held up a finger. "As I was saying, this will be a new experience! You'll learn a new language! Maybe..."
Percy groaned and laid down on the floor. Face first. His usual "I honestly don't care right now" position. He exercised it daily.
Percy heard the creak of the old worn out bed springs as Piper stood up off them and the laid beside Percy. Her face held a mischievous look to it. Her eyes glinted with humor.
"What..?"
"Maybe," she danced her fingers across the carpet, "maybe you'll get a hot German dude and you both learn each other's languages upon learning that you're madly in love."
Percy push-upped off the floor. Piper squealed and rolled away. "Piper!"
"But what if!"
"Yeah okay, maybe that might happen. But the odds of me picking up s language in a month? Very very small."
"It'd be so cute though."
Percy sighed. "You're a hopeless romantic."
Piper grinned. "I know, it's disgusting."
"Pfft...Go back to your dorm Pipes, I need to clear my head."
"Ugh fine. Don't lay in the same spot or else there will be a permanent mark there."
"Out! Annabeth is waiting!"
Piper opened her mouth but no sound came out. She waved her arms in panic before scuttling off the floor and grabbing her purse. When she finally regained her voice she was at the door.
"I told her I would be back to help her study an hour ago oh god oh god oh god we are both gonna fail Lit." And then she was gone.
Percy sighed and sat on the untidy bedspread. He had his head in his arms, shaking at what he was sure to be his own luck.
He'd probably be the one to have the random student show up in his dorm.

"Mrs Dodds is out to get me, I swear it Piper," Percy said with his ear pressed to his phone. After every grueling maths lesson Peecy always had to fume about it or else he knew he would spend the rest of the day wallowing in self pity and the unfairness of the world. He fumbled with his keys and unlocked his dorm room and swung the door wide. The scuff marks from the handle on the wall would just be another thing to deal with.
"Exactly! I mean I just- Woah. Woah woah woah I'll call you back Pipes," Percy took the phone from his ear and stared at the boy who was about his age silently unpacking his suitcase.
"Who...who are you?" Percy pointed.
The boy jumped like a startled doe. He quickly turned around to Percy and Percy took a step back.
The boy had big sky blue eyes and eyelashes with a length that would make any girl jealous. He was tan, as if he had spent every weekend at a lake in full sunlight. His hair stood up in white blonde tufts. A scar rested above his upper lip.
Oh my god
The boy finally smiled and plug around his Jean pockets for a minute. He finally found what he was looking for and handed it to Percy.
Percy, still gaping at the glory of his really cute room mate and his luck, took the card without a second glance.

Age: 18
Birthdate: July 1st
Room mate: Perseus Jackson
Below the general information was a picture of the so called Jason Grace. He was smiling and he looked very at ease in the picture. His eyes were crinkled and he had a smile wide enough that his scar was barely visible. Sunlight reflected off his hair in the picture and made Jason look like he was wearing a halo.
"That's, that's not what my friends call me."
Jason tilted his head.
OHHH right, German. Well maybe he will get my name.
Percy pointed to himself. "Percy" he stuck out his hand.
Jason finally smiled and nodded in understanding. He took Percy's hand and shook it vigorously. "Jason." His voice was thick and heavily accented.
Oh god what do I do now
"You live with me now?"
A blush formed on Jason's face. "Erm.." He scratched his head.
Percy smacked his forehead. "Oh.." He muttered quietly.
I'll settle for hand motions I guess. I'll just look like a bird until we learn a bit.
He pointed around the dorm room, then to himself and Jason. "With me?"
Jason's eyes followed Percy's hand all the way around the room. He squinted and looked like he was in deep thought.
Then, Jason pointed between him and Percy and then looked around the room.
"Y-yes?"
"Yeah! High five!" He held out his hand.
Jason seemed confused for a second before seeing the hand raised above and then grinned widely. He smacked Percy's hand and laughed.
We've got one word between us. Now we have a whole month.

Percy entertained himself for the rest of the day by muttering comments under his breath, knowing Jason could not understand him, so he was at safety with his own speech.
This also meant that Percy could observe his new room mate up close.
He's got a scar on his stomach. Was he stabbed? Hardcore holy Hera . There's a strip of hair that is thinner than the rest. Does he have siblings that tore it out? I gotta ask. Wait I don't speak German. His hands are rough. What does he even do?? His jawline though.. Woah he sure does like purple a lot. Look at all those shirts. Well i can't say anything half my ward robe is either blue or black with the same bright orange jacket everyday. That's a lot of photographs wow. Is that his sister? They don't even look alike.. Where's his dad? Mom?
Jason looked as if he was about done with his picture unpacking. Percy decided to helping with the rest.
He cleared his throat and walked over to the unused bed where Jason's stuff was piled up.
"Can I.. Help you?" He wrung his hands.
"Hm?" Jason cocked his brow.
"Help?"
"Ah, Ja bitte."
"I'll take that as a yes." He grabbed the nearest purple shirt and began to fold.
A couple times their hands brushed while reaching for the same article of clothing. Each time sent mini fireworks racing up Percy's arm and liquid butterflies down his spine. I'm gonna have to call him Sparky
"How did you even get me as a room mate I am so sorry" Percy began his off hand comments. Each time Jason glanced over at him but quickly looked away once realizing they were not towards him.
"God I hope Piper is right."
"Bro that is a lot of purple holy crap dude."
"It probably looks good on you though."
"Woah Sparky"
"How did I get you I'm so lucky I need more friends."
"And you're cute too."
Percy was looking down at his hands when he said that, admiring his folding job when he heard a laugh beside him.
"Thank you," a rough voice said.
Percy felt something wash over his body. Fear? Embarrassment? It started as a tingle down from the top of his head all the way to his toes. Next came the heat. Embarrassment flooded his features and made him blush harder than ever before.
Did he really just understand that???
With dread, Percy slowly looked to his partner beside him. Jason was covering his mouth with his first, trying to not let another laugh escape. His eyes were bright and he was shaking with contained laughter.
Percy did not think this was funny.
"You can understand English?" He dragged the words out.
Jason snorted. "Ja."
"And you pretended to not know because..."
"I vanted to know vhat you were like." His words were thick but understandable if you listened carefully.
"You heard everything?"
"Mhm."
"Oh my god, oh my god." Percy ran his fingers through his hair and spun in a circle, not believing what he ws hearing. For the past two hours he had been making off hand comments on how cute Jason was and that he couldn't believe his luck. Oh, and his off color jokes.. Thanks to Leo.
"Do not worry, Percy, I like you. You are funny guy. Very nice too." Jason nodded encouragingly.
Percy let out a relieved laugh. "Well, this makes things easier doesn't it?"
Jason nodded his head. Suddenly his eyes got a strange glint to it, it was very familiar to what Percy saw earlier, staring at Pipers eyes on the floor. Mischief.
"Was Piper right?"
"I sure hope so."
"Me too."
