Before Catharine's very eyes she watched as a beast, that could only be described as wolf-like, bashed around the room and into bookcases. The creature was dark brown in color with small horns, large teeth, and yellow eyes ten times too big for the monster's head. It's black nose whipped around the room and when it's disfigured eyes laid on her, it began to charge.  kbbib

A scream left her from her chest as she clutched her arms around her face and dropped to the floor. The monster's growls and howls stopped as she sat untouched. Peering up from her arms she could see Desmond hold the monster by it's neck and then throw it back to the shelves.

On the floor laid the large wolf paralyzed as Desmond began to chant in words she didn't understand. The beast began to shift, leaving the naked body of Daniel within its spot. Human fingers started to twitch as he groan.

"You will not hurt her, she's under our protection," he said emphasizing 'our' as he lifted Daniel to his feet.

Daniel was brought to the couch in front of the fireplace and Catharine couldn't help but stare at his head. Two small horns stuck up from the side of his head, though they weren't nearly as large as Desmond's. He wrinkled his nose as he looked around with a daze and when he peered over to Catharine asked, "Why does she smell?"

She knew that Desmond couldn't give him an exact answer, but he tried. "Her soul is different. Don't you worry, you won't smell things like her out there. You'll be able to distinguish the smells and tastes of blood and soul."

Then they both looked over at Catharine who stood waiting for something to be said, but it was clear they just wanted to know why she came in. "I just wanted to make sure things were okay," she explained.

"Everything's perfect, and I'm sure Daniel would agree," Desmond said as he took a seat next to his newly added pack member. The first one to the demon pack.

"It's Dan," he said trying to correct.

"Dan?" he questioned as if it weren't even a word. "It's Daniel. You've been born into a new life and within this new life, you are Daniel. Dan makes you sound human."

Even Daniel wasn't sure what he meant, but accepted it without any argue.

Out of instinct Catharine grabbed the throw blanket on the back of the couch and draped it over the naked young man. Though once the spread was over him she wondered if she had taken her kindness too far. After all, she knew Daniel to be a killer long before he was turned.

"Thank you," he muttered and looked over his shoulder to her. From his dark almond eyes she could see that Desmond and him were related in a way. They shared the same dark and blank stare with forced personality. She'd seen this look before and if she'd never known a sociopath she'd of never picked it up.

"Are there any clothes for me?" he asked.

"I've already prepared you some clothes and your room," she said.

"Perfect," Desmond said as he lifted himself. "For now, we'll go for a hunt."

Daniel stayed on the couch clutching the blanket to himself as if his now dead body could feel cold. "Hunt?" He asked and peered over to Catharine then back to him. "As the thing?"

Desmond held out his hand to coax him up. "Yes, we will hunt in our demon forms."

"She's not coming with us, right?"

Catharine shrunk in her own body. She realized that every monster that Desmond was going to take back to the house would think she smelt. It seemed like her days would be numbered in the manor if her smell couldn't be tolerated.

"No. She won't be hunting with us," Desmond reassured.

One more time Daniel asked as if she weren't in his presence. "She's human?"

Suddenly she was annoyed. "Yes, I'm human. Though I can see you've been a monster long before you ended up here." She stormed away not caring whether Desmond was going to say anything about her outburst.

When her hands had reached down to push open the doors, Desmond had called to her. "Wait."

Attitude seethed through her. "What?"

He seemed shocked but then replied, "Do you need anything while we're out?"

She crossed her arms and felt embarrassed again. He had only ever helped her and yet she was so quick to pin him as a bad guy. "What?" she croaked again, her tone changed.

"Do you need food? Clothes? Supplies...?" he listed as example.

"Oh," she sighed. Looking over the room she wondered if there was anything she needed and realizing she was all set she was about to say no. Though she whispered what would have been a great thing to have while she cleaned. "Music?" she asked. "Is there anyway of, like, getting a radio some how?"

"I'll see what I can do. You can go now. Do some more cleaning upstairs and finish the master bedroom," he requested and Catharine left.

When she went back upstairs, she headed to the the master bedroom. She had taken a peek in each room, but didn't really do much exploring of them till it was time to clean. This one had carpeting, a large canopy bed, two bureaus, a stand with a TV and a bookcase full of books.

The room was in as much disarray and smelt equally as bad as her room once did. Pushing open the bathroom door, she examined it as well. Filth everywhere with the smell of rust. She was overwhelmed just looking at it.

She spent the rest of the night just going through the room, one draw was just full of trash and paper and the other she went through clothes. After making the bed and vacuuming, she felt the room was as clean before she went back to the bathroom.

Again opening the door, she felt tired as she looked around and when her eyes peered out the window, she could see the sky turning orange and pink; the sun laying at the edge of the ground. A dawn sky was coming up and exhaustion was now working it's way over her. She needed a break from her duties and was proud of the accomplishments.

If Desmond wanted to say anything she could always just say that she'd have more time to clean if she wasn't helping him abduct people. But two rooms and a kidnap in one night? Impressive.

She closed both the doors and took her way down the hall and entered her own room.

Looking around, the dim light that illuminated the room almost made her feel at peace. Everything was quiet and she wondered if Desmond had made his way home with his demon-in-training.

Breathing in the room goosebumps fell down her arms. She wondered how it was possible to be living among monsters and feel such safety. It seemed like now that she was sure that Desmond wanted nothing more than her help to build his pack and maintain his home that she was feeling she could breath again.

It was a long time she had waited for peace of mind.

When she picked up her night clothes to get undressed she decided that taking a hot bath would be perfect before heading to bed. She took her clothes in with her to the bathroom and laid them on the toilet before she began running the water.

Over the sink, she stared at herself in the mirror and at that moment everything around her seemed to feel more real. As if this whole time everything around her including herself didn't exist and it had taken to this moment to plant her in reality.

Her stomach dropped, memories of her life before this were taking over in her mind. Even those images had now just hit her, as if this whole time she were in a dream now waking up.

Once the bath was done she had taken off her clothes and dipped into the tub. The warm water covered her body, steaming away her fears and worries.

Laying her head back she relaxed imaging the master bathroom after she had cleaned it. She was taking a pleasure in transforming the haunting mansion into a home. As little as it was, she felt a purpose and she hadn't felt useful in such a long time.

She opened her eyes to peer at her leg through the the vibrating water. The ugly pink scar was still noticeable and it seemed as if every time she looked at it, the phantom pain would flare. A permanent memory.

Suddenly she jumped, the water splashing as the door to the back of her opened. She peeked over her shoulder expecting Desmond, but when she noticed it was Daniel she covered her chest. "Whao, occupied."

Though he didn't leave, instead he walked over to the sink and began to wash his hands ignoring anything she said. He was silent, but she felt as if he were staring at her through the mirror.

She noticed that there was a blanket around him, but blood covered his hair and from the mirror she could see he was covered in it. There was so much and she was glad she couldn't smell it the way she did last night as a cat.

The sound of the faucet stopped and he turned. It seemed for the first time he would notice her. "Let me know when you're done, I'd like to wash up." She nodded.

After he had left she uncorked the tub and got out. She grabbed a clean towel from the closet then ran it through her hair before wrapping it around herself.

Feeling silly as she knocked on the bathroom door to the other room, he answered for her to come in.

Opening it slightly. "I'm done, you can have the bathroom now."

As she was about to close the door, she watched him reach onto the bed and walked over to her with a black wire dangling from his fist. "This is for you. I thought maybe you'd rather have a MP3 than a radio."

She took the small white rectangle box and headphones and smiled at him. "You remembered this?" she questioned.

"Desmond seemed...preoccupied with things last night. I took it upon myself to swipe this before leaving," he explained, though he didn't smile back to her.

She was starting to think she made him uncomfortable or if women in general made him uncomfortable. For a man to kidnap women and hold them captive in his basement to torture seemed to be a lot of hate for the female gender.

"Thanks," she muttered and stepped back closing the door.

Desmond sat in his office and within his fingers twirled a small pill. When he held it up to the setting sun he couldn't help but smile. This was it, his plans were starting to come together.

A simple black filled pill, but the possibilities of what it could do were enticing. And tonight was the night he was going to experiment with the new product he would release to the public.

There was a knock at the door and when Desmond had answered it was Daniel who popped his head from the side of the door. "Ah, sit down. I have something to show you."

"Oh thank, God, I've been so bored," Daniel said as he sat in the chair.

"Bored? Nothing interested you in the library?" Desmond questioned as he laid the pill on the desk before him.

"Not much of a reader," he admitted slouching back into his chair.
Desmond smirked. "Well, you're immortal now, wouldn't you want to put that time to go use? Did I choose wrong in making you my first. You'll be my second in command."

A smile crossed Daniel's lips. "I would have happily chosen this life. The kills last night were....exhilarating." Desmond was starting to see a lot of his long ago brother within his great nephew. "But there's no internet, no TV. I can't sleep..."

"We'll perhaps we'll change some things around here. For now, I have something to show you." He held up the black pill and Daniel took it into his own hand to examine it.

"What is it?"

"This," he began. "Is our way of running this city." As Daniel looked confused Desmond just smiled. "Let's just say this will be our way of paying for cable. This is my blood. We're an unique kind of vampire, Daniel. Other creatures will not compare to us. The consumption of vampire's blood is a popular thing right now in the city. I want to experiment with our blood."

Before Desmond could tell him more another knock was at the door. Knowing this time it had to be Catharine he had asked her to come in and she shuffled inside. Her eyes first looked at him, then to Daniel, and then suddenly to the floor.

"Just finished the upstairs bathroom and hallway," she began. "I'm sorry if I interrupted anything, I just wanted to see what the plans were tonight."

"You apologize for everything, it's annoying," Desmond admitted with a serious tone. "Sit. You're apart of our pack, kitty-cat." He was taunting her, but she didn't say anything, though he expected a smart ass remark.

From his chair, Desmond lifted himself and walked over to the middle of the room. "I already told you last night about your great grandfather's gift," he said to Daniel. "Now I want to teach you how to use it."

"I have the power of manipulation?" Daniel said with a scoff and then leaned back. "Well, I guess that would explain a lot." Daniel too rose and stood next to his alpha.

"Now, Catharine will be our puppet for tonight." Desmond looked over to Catharine and assured her not to worry. He instructed her not to move from her chair and that was it. "You're going to concentrate," he told his pupil.

Daniel stood staring at Catharine who just sat staring at them both back.

"You can say 'stand', you're not a master, it's your first time," Desmond began. Taking a deep sigh Daniel yelled with command to stand though Catharine just sat. "That energy you voiced, feel it in your head." Daniel composed and then yelled again to her to stand only this time louder. "You're still emphasizing too much on your voice. The mind, Daniel. You know exactly what I mean. You've done it your whole life. This should be a second nature to you."

Closing his eyes Daniel took a moment. Upon opening them he looked directly into Catherine's eyes and he was silent as she watched his grow dark. Her face started to droop losing her facial expression and she looked blankly at him.

Then, in an even smooth tone he commanded, "Stand," and with that she rose from her seat.
