Lyra

We all gather in the Golden Hall later that morning, Aragorn hands me some food and water, I push it way from me.

"You need to eat, A'maelamin" Legolas says, pushing it back towards me. I sigh and start to eat.

"There was no lie in Pippin's eyes. A fool... but an honest fool he remains. He told Sauron nothing of Frodo and the Ring. We've been strangely fortunate. Pippin saw in the Palantír a glimpse of the enemy's plan. Sauron moves to strike the city of Minas Tirith. His defeat at Helm's Deep showed our enemy one thing: he knows the heir of Elendil has come forth. Men are not as weak as he supposed; there is courage still, strength enough perhaps to challenge him. Sauron fears this. He will not risk the peoples of Middle-Earth uniting under one banner. He will raze Minas Tirith to the ground before he sees a King return to the throne of men. If the Beacons of Gondor are lit, Rohan must be ready for war." Gandalf says

"Tell me... why should we ride to the aid of those who did not come to ours?" Théoden asks "What do we owe Gondor?"

"I will go," Aragorn says

"No!" Gandalf protests

"They must be warned!" Aragorn argues

"They will be. You must come to Minas Tirith by another road." Gandalf says "Follow the river and look to the black ships."

"Understand this: things are now in motion that cannot be undone. I ride for Minas Tirith." Gandalf says

Gandalf looks at the hobbits.

"And I won't be going alone," Gandalf says

"Shouldn't Lyra go as well?" Legolas asks

Gandalf is about to speak but I interrupt. "No, I'm not leaving you again," I say

"Lyra, the enemy wants our daughter," Legolas says

"I refuse to leave again, the first time, I had no choice! It almost destroyed me. I thought I was going to die and then I thought you were. I can't go through that again!" I say tearing up.

"She will be safer with you, trust me," Gandalf says

"Alright, come here Melamin," Legolas says, he pulls me close and holds me tight.

Gandalf and the hobbits leave. Legolas smiles down at me.

"What?" I ask

"I'm just so happy you are alright. I really do not know what I would have done if I would have lost you, both of you" Legolas says looking at my stomach, placing his hand on it.

"You don't have to worry about that, not ever again," I say and kiss him.

"Did you tell your father about us?" I ask as we wander around Edoras, hand in hand.

"I wrote him as soon as I had a chance to before we found you. I told him about us being married and mates. He doesn't know about our baby, our daughter. He wants us to have a ceremony in Mirkwood when this is over." Legolas says

"It would have to wait until our daughter is born," I say

"Indeed," Legolas says and kisses me.

Later that night, I stand looking out the bedroom window, my hand resting on my stomach. Legolas asleep in bed. My mind running through the events of my life.

"My darling, I promise nothing will ever harm you, not as long as I live," I say, speaking to my stomach. I rub my hand over my belly, I hear the bed move and sheets shuffle. A hand covers mine over my stomach, Legolas rests his head on my shoulder.

"Are you alright, Melamin?" He asks

"Yeah, just couldn't sleep," I say sighing.

Legolas turns me to him, his face full of worry "Why?" He asks

"Nightmares, I haven't had them this bad for many years now, but they have returned to be horrid. I have always had nightmares but, the worse ones were the first few years after I was tortured. I think what happened in Isengard made them worse." I say as he cups my face.

"Nothing will hurt you, not ever again,"Legolas says he pull me towards the bed. We lay down, it takes some time but I finally fall into  peaceful sleep.
