I feel Leo's hands ripped off of my shoulders, revealing Marcus's black eyes staring at me. Caden comes up with a bloody nose and holds Leo, pushing him down on his knees and holding his arms behind his back, Caden pulls his hair to look up at Marcus.
Marcus stares at me anger rolling off of him, my eyes widen in shock at the intensity of his eyes "Rose look away now!" he demands and I do as he says taking one last look at Leo.
I turn around, not wanting to see, knowing exactly what he's about to do. I hear Leo scream out, I cover my ears and out of the corner of the eye I see Jade run down the steps, Harry close behind. I run over to Jade and bury my head in her shoulder. She rubs my back and places a hand on my head, cooing in my ear.
"Need my help?" She ask as I feel a flame near my ear, I turn to see her hand holding a ball of fire
"No Jade stay back" I hear Caden demand but I refuse to look
The flame dies out and she looks angry, probably knowing Leo's the one who gave Caden the bloody nose. I hear a piercing sound and then it's silenced all together. Harry looks away and I watch him, waiting for him to look back so I know when I should. I hug my body feeling the chill of the defying silence.
I feel Marcus come behind me and hug my body "come on let's get you inside" Marcus says
"Ok" I nod as he leads me inside, Caden, Jade, and Harry following behind us
I look back just as we step inside, even though Harry blocks my view I look around him and see a pile of ash spreading with the wind. I look back froward, glad it's not a dead body.
We all walk into the living room and everyone takes a seat, besides Harry who leans against the door frame. Marcus pulls me to him and hugs my body but then tenses pulling back and looking over every inch of me. I've never noticed before but whenever he checks me for injuries, using his ability, his eyes always get a shade lighter, turning to a clear crystal blue rather a deep bright blue.
"You're not hurt" he sighs closing his eyes and putting head in his hands "if he would have hurt you-" he growls
"You would have killed him?" I joke lightly
"Yes and I'm sure I'll be hearing from Caine soon" his hands ball into fists and his anger reaches me. I hold out my hand resting it in his arm, even though it's covered in dirt and blood I ignore it
"I'm going to have to tell Nate that the training paid off" Caden jokes while Jade sits on his lap
She scoffs and continues to dab the wet warm washcloth under his nose collecting the dried blood.
"Yeah I guess it did" I say falling back in the couch, my mind reviewing Leo's last words to me 'he misses you'
Who misses me? That doesn't make any sense, who is he talking about? Caine? But Caine's never met me. Maybe Caden and Marcus hit him a little to hard upside the head. My thoughts are silence as Harry begins to speak
"Did you get any more information out of him?" He asks
Caden sits up, keeping Jade against his chest "Only a little, the female is old maybe around the age of Marcus but she could be younger. Leo said the male is young, younger than him which doesn't make a lot of since considering he's the strongest but it can happen. I'm sure he has abilities Leo just wouldn't tell us what they were" Caden explains "but obviously we know the female can see our lives and that's how's she's been telling Caine" he says
"Lucia's been working on shutting off her abilities by trying to get in her mind but it's harder than she thought" Marcus says looking down at me with worried eyes "the problem is we never know when she's watching, we can't feel her in our minds but she's there... And she's very good" he says the last part more to himself
"I'm sorry if I caused you guys to kill him sooner and not get what you needed" I frown thinking they were probably not done with him
"Don't sweat it Rose we were coming out of the cellar to kill him anyways, we knew he wasn't going to say any more" Caden says holding Jades hand with the wet washcloth in it keeping her hand away from his face "babe I'm fine it's already healed" he tells her and she nods leaning back into his chest "I like your shirt by the way" he says looking down the valley of her exposed breast, she smirks and then laughs looking at me as I role my eyes and giggle
"Rose, what was wrong, you never told me" Marcus says and I instantly remember why we left moms
Jade obviously hearing this she speaks up "we think the vampires were...in Rose's house" she says and I look down at my hands feeling Marcus tense beside me
This is not going to be pretty
"What?" He asks stunned "how do you know?"
"There was root of garlic and lemon grass-" Jade begins
"They were covering there scents" Marcus interrupts, finishing her sentence for her "how? Why?"
"We don't know, James wasn't even there, did you tell him to feed since we we're going to be there?" I ask and he looks at me his face contorted in confusion
"No he should be there, I'm sorry Rose if I would have known he wouldn't be there I would have sent someone else, is your mom ok?" he asks
"I don't know, something was defiantly wrong. They didn't hurt her if that's what you're asking but something happened that freaked her out" I tell him "I told her to go to my aunts house but she can't leave until Thursday because they're out of town"
"Ok I'll get four vampires to protect your house and her when she leave" he says and I nod as he pull out his phone and starts typing
"Marcus" Harry calls out and Marcus looks up at him "I sent out a few vampires to look for James but no one has seen him since yesterday" he says
"Tell them to keep looking, he could have gone to eat or he may have spotted one and chased them without telling anyone" Marcus instructs
I hate that we can't be sure that they were there in my house, if only someone else I knew had a supernatural amazing nose...wait "I have an idea!" I say and all there eyes look over to me "Jade garlic root and lemon grass only effect vampires senses right?" I ask and she nods slowly, tilting her head confused
I pull out my phone and look for Luke's contact, when I find it I bring my phone up to my ear feeling everyone's questioning eyes on me "hello?" I hear him answer
"Hey Luke" I say
"Hey Rose everything ok?" He asks and I smile
"Well actually I need a favor" I tell him hopeful
"Sure, anything" he says
"Ok" I say and explain what's going on, wanting to keep him in the loop, I tell him about Leo's death, what we found out from him, I tell him about the garlic root and lemon grass and I tell him about my moms odd behavior "so anyways we were wondering if you could maybe stop by my moms house and pick up either of the vampires scents?" I ask biting my lip
"Yeah sure I'll just grab Amber and we'll run over there, what do you want me to tell you mom?" He asks and I instantly feel happy
"Just say you thought I would be there, she'll probably invite you in for a drink or something but see if you can smell them" I tell him
"Ok me or Amber will call you back if we find anything" he says
"Ok, thank you again" I smile
"Anything for a friend, talk to you later" he says
"Bye" I hang up and turn around to see three out of the four people smiles, those three hearing what's going on while Jade looks a little confused "Luke's going over to my moms to see if he can detect if the vampires were there or not" I tell her and she nods and makes an O shape with her mouth
We talk more about the things we know and more questions come up with each new topic. By the time everyone leaves it's already 11, I groan thinking about school tomorrow.
Me and Marcus walk up to the bedroom and take a quick shower, both of us to tired to even do anything frisky, but of course Marcus tried. I get dressed in one of his clean T-shits that arn't covered in blood, I know it should gross me out or freak me out but it doesn't for some reason.
I crawl up to him and lay on his chest as he lift the covers over us. He wraps his arms around me and I sigh, my body aching from my day and my mind racing with new information and worry.
I hear my phone ring and I groan not wanting to move, I roll over and grab it before I miss the call "hello?"
"Hey Rose" I hear Luke say
I sit up quickly, Marcus following, both holding our breaths praying for news "hey, find anything?" I ask
"Yeah but the weird thing is it was only the males scent I didn't smell the female at all" he says and I raise one of my eyebrows, a little surprised
I look at Marcus and he looks concentrated and lost away in thought. I'm glad we confirmed it but I already had a feeling one of them was there "really? Just the male?" I ask more to myself "ok thank you Luke, tell Amber I said hi" I tell him
"Will do, see you soon Rose" he says and we both hang up
I look at Marcus "why do you think it was just the male at my house?" I ask and he shrugs
"Honestly there could be a million reasons why, good and bad but we'll figure it out" he says and I nod "let's go to bed" he reaches out for me and I could never resist him
I lay my head on his chest and trace over his mark delicately, he reaches up the bottom of my shirt and does the same to me, his memorized fingers trace over the vines and words on my rib cage. I lay back closing my eyes, hoping this will smooth my mind but one question keeps popping up in my mind.
"Hey Marcus?" I ask and he hums in response "Leo said something to me before you pulled him away" I tell him quietly
"What?" He asks his hand moving to my head and running his fingers through my hair
I pause for a moment " he said 'he misses you' " I tell him staring down at his chest
His hand movement stops for a moment "Who?"
"I have no idea" I tell him honestly, Leo's voice repeating the words in my mind...the way he said it.. I shiver at the memory
"It was probably him trying to mess with your mind, don't worry about it ok" he says holding me tighter and I nod against his chest "get some rest you have school tomorrow" he says and I groan
"So do you" I tease
"Actually..." He trials off
"How do you do it! You've been out for weeks" I tell him frowning
"The power of compelling" he chuckles "it's not like I need the job, once everything passes I won't have anything else to do so I'll go back" he says
"Fine but shut up so I can sleep" I joke...kind of
"Ok good night, I love you" he says and I smile closing my eyes
"Love you to" I say and mold into his body all parts of our skin touching sending me off in sleep
