"What happened." Bucky demands but no, he's not panicked. Definitely not. Because he doesn't get panicked. Not over something this stupid. "Steve."
Steve sighs, wipes blood from his cheek, and doesn't look to Bucky. But he can tell Steve's hiding something.
"It was an ambush," Steve says, lips pursing as he dusts off dirt on his hands. He's nervous, Bucky notes. "We saw it coming, but they were stronger than we expected. Faster."
"Stronger than you and Thor? Faster than Pietro?" Bucky pushes away from the wall as Steve remains quiet. "Where is she, Steve. Tell me right now. (Y/n) would've made contact by now if she had escaped and you know that."
"She.. she didn't escape." Steve raises his eyes to Bucky's widened ones and his expression shifts. "That doesn't mean she's-"
Bucky holds up his hand, unable to process what he had just heard and let's out a breath through his nose. "So you lied," He grits through clenched teeth. "You lied when you said you saw her run off. Didn't you!"
Steve flinches, but recovers quickly and nods stiffly. "We'll get her back, Buck-"
"You're damn right we are!" He growls, pulling at his hair as he turns and huffs. "I thought I could trust you to protect her, Steve. I thought you'd be able to handle that. To make sure (Y/n) wouldn't get killed or kidnapped but no. I can't trust anyone but her."
"You don't mean that," Steve mutters quietly, picking up his shield and walking out of the restroom.
Bucky, unable to control his rage, drives his metal arm through the wall and yanks it back with a strangled whimper.
He can't trust anyone. Not even Steve. Only you. Bucky makes the decision to save you alone and storms out of the small room, making to the front door with his backpack packed when Sam stops him.
"And where do you think you're going?" He asks him, but he already knows his answer since his Falcon wings suit is attacked to his torso.
"Where do you think," Bucky grumbles roughly, throwing open the door and Sam follows after him quietly.
"To rescue a certain damsel in distress, I'm assuming?"
"This isn't a joke," Bucky wants to stop and tell him to go back inside, to leave him alone, but he needs someone else to come with him to be the bait while he gets you back and safe.
And so they continue, marching up to the van where they find Steve already waiting in the back.
"Mission rescue (Y/n) starts.." Sam hops into the drives seat and turns on the engine. "Now."
A few hours later, Sam parks the car near a fallen tree and covers it with branches as Bucky and Steve look skeptically at the building where you're supposedly held in.
"Are you sure this is where she is?" Steve whispers, eyes scanning the dark forest, unable to see any movement. "It looks abandoned."
Bucky points to a small line of smoke puffing from a chimney. "That's what they'd want you to think. I know how these people work."
Steve gives the signal, and Sam nods and takes off into the air silently.
Bucky and Steve make it into the interior, thanks to Sam knocking out the guards by the doors, when they hear the soft clanking of metal coming from a room they had passed.
Nodding, they position themselves on either side of the door. Just before they could knock, it swings open and a figure flies out and- hold on.
"(Y/n)?" Bucky breathes, shoulders dropping as you whirl around and crack your wrists back into place.
"Bucky!" You leap forward and hug him tightly, and he holds you back to inspect the scrapes along your cheek.
"Are you okay?" He asks quickly. "Did you break anything? Sprain, tear, pull-?"
"No," You say happily, pressing a kiss to his cheek softly before turning to Steve. "Thanks for coming, guys, but I had it under control."
Bucky snorts. "Then why did you get taken?"
You laugh sheepishly, rubbing your head absently. "I might've gotten.. carried away, and one of them had a really good arm."
"We need to go," Steve rushes you two forward, meeting Sam at the car who grins when he sees you.
"Aye, (Y/n), I knew you'd be ok-"
"Go, go, go!" Steve shouts, holding up his shield as bullets fly. He shoves you and Bucky in the front, almost not making it to the back as Sam slams his foot on the gas pedal.
"Mission accomplished,"
