"So where are you going to sit at lunch?" The girl sitting next to me asked. The class period was about to end, and next period was finally lunch time. After lunch I have one more period until we could go home. In my opinion, there was no point in having it that late because you could just go home and eat. Seriously school people gotta learn that kids gotta eat earlier beacuse most of us didn't even eat breakfast.
"Uh Excuse me! Earth to new girl" I looked up and snapped out of my thoughts... ok I seriously had to stop day dreaming so much. I looked at the person talking to me, and she was stunning!! She had medium length dirty blond hair, and wore a loose fitting green blouse with black skinny jeans.
"Sorry!" I smiled sheepishly, "what was the question again?"
"Umm," She raised an eyebrow and I think she doubted herself now. "I was wondering if you have anywhere to sit at lunch. You seem really nice, and I just wanted to make sure that you had somewhere to sit."
Aww how sweet. "Actually...." I was about to tell her about Zayn, but I stopped myself. You know his type Zarah, he's no good. "I'd love to!" my smile got bigger; I think I just made a new friend!
"Great! Follow me! Btw, I'm Kristen, but people just call me Kristy." She turned and began to lead me towards the cafeteria. On the way, a lot of kids... mostly girls were giving me really dirty stares.
"Whats with them?" I asked confused to why they would hate me already.
Katy rolled her eyes, "Who knows.. The girls at this school are such drama queens. There probably just mad because you have the same boots as them or something, So this is the art room, the chemistry lab, the gym...." Katy keeps pointing left and right to new things until she finally stopped a big door. "And this is the cafeteria!" Before you go in, you must remember, that who you choose to sit with will determine your high school status for the next 4 years. There is no going up in the social ladder at all, but you could go down and that's only when you completely betray your clique and they kick you out.... but I know that you would never do that! And, since I'm like the nicest person on Earth, I've decided to save you from making the wrong choice and decided that you shall sit with me and my possy!" She smiled at me eagerly, probably waiting for me to say thank you or jump up and down in excitement for my luck.
Instead, I chose to say, "Possy? Seriously?"
She rolled her eyes, "Whatever! Just come on!" she pulled me into the door and I'm surprised that my mouth didn't drop to the clear, tiled floor. There was Chinese food, Mexican, Indian, Persian, and dessert stands scattered elegantly across the room. This place wasn't just a cafeteria... it was heaven. "Well? What do you think??" she looked at me expectantly.
"God have mercy....." is all I could manage. Apparently I said the right thing because Katy just laughed and nodded in agreement.
"KK, so this is the skater kids," she pointed toward a table to my right full of guys with unbelievably long hair. "The book worms, the drama students, football guys, chess club, glee club....."
"Who are they?" I pointed towards a table filled with a group of really cute guys and really pretty girls laughing at some joke. One of them saw me and rolled her eyes at Katy.
"Ugh! Do not talk to them Zee, mind if I call you that?"
"Not at all! and why shouldn't I talk to them," I furrowed my eyebrows.
"Because they are the stereo typical cheerleaders... not worth our time besides if you want to be popular you got me. Me and my gang practically rule the school...fairly of course!"
I rolled my eyes, she is such a character.
"Ok ok calm down, can we just get to our table, I want to see your "Possy"" I teased her.
She led me down the cafeteria, swerving around tables full of kids from different types of clubs. "Here we are!" There were 3 other girls and 3 guys. Two of the girls looked like identical twins, but they had a few differences so it wouldn't be too hard to figure out which was which. They both had black hair, porcelain white skin, and absolutely perfect noses! They were attractive, but in a high maintenance, don't touch me sort of way. The last girl was a brunette with wavy long hair. She had sparkly brown eyes and high cheek bones. Gosh, all the girls at the school made me feel so insecure about my looks! It's like they were all just naturally beautiful. "So this is Kayla and Layla," Katy pointed towards the two twins.
"Hi' they said in unison, "Nice to meet you!" Whoa freaky.
"And this is Taylor!"
"It's really nice to meet you; I hope we become close friends" The brunette, Taylor, smiled kindly at me.
"Hey Katy! You forgot about us!" the two boys yelled to get our attention.
"Oh, Zarah and this is Tommy and Zack," Katy says a little more dully than necessary. My heart dropped to my stomach when I realized that the boy named Zack was the guy from the water fountain. Tommy seemed nice at least; he had brown wavy hair that fell to his eyebrows. His eyes were unique; they were grayish light blue and fit perfectly with his tannish, white skin tone. On anyone else, those features would be horrendous, but on him it just worked perfectly.
"Hey babe," Zack said, "long time no see."
I swallowed hard and instantly stepped behind Katy for protection, she seemed to notice my anxiousness to get away.
" Lay off Zack! She's off limits! Seriously this is why you've never had a girlfriend, you just come off as a creepy perv!"
"Once you get to know him, he's really sweet," she tried reassuring me. Yah, OK... I seriously doubt that.
" Aren't you going to introduce me to your little friend here?" an accent that I'm already too familiar with came from behind me. Oh No........Please don't let it be....anyone but him.
"Oops sorry! Zarah..." Katy turns me around so I'm facing him. " This is my boyfriend Zayn... we've been going out since middle school!" she hugged him and looked really happy. I must admit, I felt my heart drop a little when I heard the word boyfriend, but I was mad at myself for reacting that way because I despised him. I could never have feelings for a guy like him.....right?
A part of me was hoping that he turned out to be different, but I guess he's just the type of guy to flirt with other girls.
" You do know that he's a player right?" I whispered into Katy's ear. She, along, with the rest of the table began to laugh...including Zayn. How did they all hear me? I don't whisper that loud.
" No he really isn't, girls think that he's flirting, but that's just the type of guy he is. Don't take anything he says seriously. He's just trying to mess with you."
Nice job dork! Now you look like a bigger loser than before. I mentally punished myself for thinking that he was actually interested. I mean who would be interested in just an average girl like me? Especially in this school!
" I'm really sorry for that whole speech I gave you earlier," now I was really embarrassed, I basically poured my heart out to him for no reason. Good god! I have to work on my people skills.
" I guess you really don't know my type then do you?" he teased.
" I guess not," I sighed, " I shouldn't have judged you right away and I'm sorry'
"Aint that the truth!" He winked at me....... for like the 100th time today might I add.
"You should really get that twitch fixed"
Everyone started to laugh, and Zayn..Being the bad boy he was, just rolled his eyes, but I thought I saw just a hint of a smile on his perfect lips.
"Welcome to the group Zee! We are really glad to have you!" Katy pulled me in a seat next to her.
It felt really good to have a group of friends that truly cared about me for once. I realized that I had always focused on all the negative parts of school my whole life, and never really let myself experience the positive aspects because I felt like I was never good enough or didn't belong with the rest of the kids. The feeling that I had right now was amazingly happy, happier than ever before.
That feeling enveloped me and welcomed me into a big warm hug. It followed me into the next class, and then home and it never left. I wished I could have held on to that feeling forever, unfourtunantly, the universe had other plans because you wouldn't believe what I saw when I got home...
