So often I want to shake my fist at Fate's taunts,
which draw my ire by dangling my earnest wants.
It's the heart this ancient fiend enjoys teasing most,
offering its deepest desire in ways to cripple the host.
Fate steers us down the paths we've so blindly taken,
knowing our steps will leave us vulnerable and shaken.
For her sick and twisted games do we haplessly exist,
not realizing until her hurtful laughter all we have missed.
So trivial pawns in this life we and our hearts might be,
but I shall strive to not let Fate have the best of me.
