Chapter Eight

"Thanks for meeting me here." I smiled, as Liam walked up.

"No problem," he responded, shooting me a smile.

I asked Liam to meet me between the buses, because I feel like we should take a break. Don't get me wrong, our relationship has been fine, and going really well. But we have too much on our plates, from the dread doctors, to dealing with Theo. I just don't think we have as much time for each other as we used to.

"So, what do you need?" he asked.

"I just wanted to say that-" I started,

It felt like I was talking, but no words were coming out. We need a break. We're dealing with so much, all of us are. Malia, Scott, even Stiles is. But for some reason, I just couldn't do it. I just couldn't spit out the words,

"I'm sorry," Liam finally said.

"What?"

"I'm sorry. I'm sorry for not paying as much attention to you as I should be. I'm sorry that I've been a terrible boyfriend." he finished.

"Liam, you're not a terrible boyfriend." I chuckled, before looking down.

"Yes, Liz. I-" he stuttered. "I am. I haven't been paying much attention to you."

"Liam, we're all dealing with so much. We deal with so many things that no ordinary teenagers would even imagine dealing with." I begin, "And because we have to worry about the dread doctors, and chimeras, and Theo Raeken, and just-" I sigh,

"What I'm trying to say, is..." I paused, "I think we need a break. We can't possibly face all of these creatures, and people, if we're also trying to keep our relationship working."

"What?" Liam's voice fell.

"Liam," I tried taking a step towards him, but he backed up. "I'm sorry..."

Liam opened his mouth to say something, but shook his head instead. "You're right. It's horrible to say, but you're right." he chuckled.

"How are we supposed to survive, if we're focusing on a relationship." he agreed. "It's sad to think about, though. We can't live normal teenage lives because we have to try not to get killed.."

"Tell me about it. That's all I think about." I stare back at him with sad eyes, "We're too young to be dealing with this kind of stuff, Liam. We shouldn't be worried about dying. We should be worried about tests, and school dances, and lacrosse practice-" I let out a laugh in disbelief.

He pulled me in for a hug, holding my head in his shoulder. "I know, Liz."

We broke apart, and gave each other sad smiles as tears built up in my eyes. "I'm sorry, Liam."

"Hey, you don't need to apologize. It's for the best, really." he gave my hand a reassuring squeeze. "When this whole thing's over and the dread doctors are gone, we'll pick right back up again, okay?"

I gave him a nod as he wiped a tear from my face, before kissing my cheek. "I'll see you later, Shields."

"Later Dunbar." I chuckled, as he walked away. My laughter soon faded into crying, and I leaned against the school bus, my back pressed up against it as I slid down the side of the bus.

I pulled my legs up to my chest, and the tears continued flowing.

"Liz?" a female voice called out,

I stopped crying, as I looked up from my legs.

"Hey, what's wrong?" Malia asked, standing over me before squatting down.

I sniffled as a response, instead of speaking.

"What happened?" she questioned,

"Liam and I are on a break." I smiled, wiping my face of it's tears.

Her eyebrows furrowed. "When I find that teen-wolf I'm gunna tear out his lungs, and shove them up his-"

"Malia! It's okay, calm down." I laughed. "I'm the one who decided it was best for a break, and he agreed. We can't handle dread doctors, chimeras, and a relationship. It was either now, ending on a good note. Or later, ending on a bad one."

The bell interrupted our conversation,

"Come on, don't wanna be late for class." she nodded. She stood up, extending her hands for me, which I gracefully accepted.

She then wrapped an arm around my shoulder as we walked towards the building.

Lydia pulled me out of class so that I could help her. I still wasn't sure what I was helping her with, all she told me was that she needed me to be with her when she took Parrish to find the Nemeton. I wasn't gonna say 'no', especially since I took a break from Liam. Something has to get my mind off things.

"So if this place is so important, how come you didn't want to show it to me before?" Parrish asked,

"Well, the problem is that it's not easy to find," Lydia responded.

"Should we put it in the GPS?" he asked.

"No exactly," Lydia narrowed her eyes, looking around.

"So how are we gunna find it?" Parrish questioned, as he turned onto another road. "Because I don't remember being anywhere near a giant tree-stump,"

"I think you're already starting to remember," Lydia affirmed.

"How do you know that?" he asked.

"Because you just took a right turn." I chimed in.

The three of us exchanged looks,

I don't know if I'm more scared that he's the one taking the bodies, or that we don't know exactly what he is.

"Anything look familiar?" I asked Parrish, as we trudged through the woods.

You would think for someone who is always in the woods, I would be used to it by now.

"Nothing. I'm trying but it all looks like woods to me," he responded, looking around.

"Maybe you're thinking about it too much." I offered.

"Maybe it's something you need to feel," Lydia added.

"How do I do that?" Parrish asked, confused.

"Oh! I know!" I joyed, pushing them closer together.

"Liz, seriously?" Lydia hissed.

She looked back at Parrish slowly, and threw a punch. He caught it, obviously.

"Okay. Not exactly what I had in mind-" I started, but was cut off by Parrish.

"What was that for?" he asked Lydia, smiling.

"To get you to stop thinking," she sassed, and then threw another punch.

"Is this supposed to motivate me?" Parrish grinned.

"No. It's supposed to get you to stop thinking," she clarified, while swinging kicks and punches at him.

I thought Lydia was supposed to be smarter with guys. I'm no expert, but I don't think you're supposed to try to beat them up.

Parrish motioned his hands, like he was saying 'bring it on'.

I just stood there, watching them fight each other.

After a few minutes, Parrish finally grabbed Lydia's wrists,

"Finally-" I started, but stopped talking when I saw Parrish's eyes.

They were glowing orange.

He turned and looked towards me, but I soon got the hint that he wasn't looking at me.

He was looking at something behind me. So, I turned around and there it was.

The Nemeton.

But it wasn't just the Nemeton. There were also a bunch of dead bodies on top of it.

Oh Parrish, what the hell have you been doing?

"I need to call it in- No I need to turn myself in," Parrish said.

We were walking back to the car, and Parrish wasn't taking the whole 'I steal dead bodies.' thing well.

"I don't think that's such a good idea," Lydia said, catching up to Parrish.

"You just told me I'm the one taking the bodies! I've attacked other law enforcement officers, that's a criminal offense." he panicked,

"I shouldn't even be near you guys!" he finished.

"I'm not afraid of you," Lydia piped up.

"I kind of am," I sheepishly added, following closely behind.

"I'm afraid of me," he agreed, slightly motioning to me.

"Whatever is happening, seems to only happen when there's a body," Lydia reassured,

"Other than that, you're a pretty nice guy." she finished. "And you're a pretty good deputy."

"I'm a very good deputy, and I'd like to stay that way. Flipping over jeeps and attacking colleagues doesn't exactly fit with 'protect and serve.'" Parrish bickered,

"I'm covering up the bodies of murdered teenagers." he finished

"You're not covering them up- actually, maybe you are." Lydia dryly spoke, slowly thinking.

"What?" Parrish asked.

"It's the same thing we asked Stilinski to do with Tracy, you're not covering up bodies. You're covering up the supernatural." I nodded, looking at them.

"What's the difference?" he asked, confused.

"Maybe you're keeping the secret safe. Maybe that's part of what you do," Lydia added.

"I'm a deputy-" Parrish started,

"You're not just a deputy. And you aren't one of the bad guys." Lydia smiled.

"Lydia, you and Liz just showed me that my dream was real. But you haven't heard the rest of it," he began,

"Every time I carry a body to the Nemeton I- I put it down and add to the ones that are already there." he finished.

"How many?" Lydia asks,

"Hundreds, Lydia. Hundreds of them," he admits.

Lydia and I stare at each other,

"Time to solve more mysteries," I sigh, walking to the car.

Lydia and I sat on a bench in the Sheriff's Department. I was on my phone, playing games, while we were anxiously waiting. I'm not sure what we were waiting for though, Lydia has a habit of leaving out the details.

"Hey, what the hell does he think he's doing?" Sheriff Stilinski asks, walking up to us.

"Protecting us," Lydia speaks.

"From who?" he asks.

"Himself." I add, not looking up from my phone.

This is gunna be a long night,

I usually update earlier in the day, but I was busy. And my chapters just keep getting shorter, and shorter, which is making me mad.

The previews for next weeks episode, I'm so confused/nervous/excited. Since next week is the last episode of 5A, this book will end up on hold until 5B. Mainly because I cannot tell the future, and don't wanna write inaccurate events.

Liz and Liam broke up, and I'm mad. I shouldn't have let Hayden get between them, but honestly, when she was first introduced, I had a feeling she would get between them.

Liz finally had some moments with Malia, Lydia, and Parrish! Maybe next chapter we'll find out what she is? I'm not really sure though, seeing as I don't even know what she is!

Update: Revised on January 20th. I literally can't stand how I let Hayden interfere with Liz and Liam's relationship, and this book sounds so childishly-written when I re-read it. So, when this season is over, I will most likely go back and edit a BUNCH.

Until the next chapter, goodbye ;)
