Chapter 3 ~ Liam

Worst. Date. Ever.

I’m not lying, I think this is the worst blind date in the history of blind dates. In a scale of one to ten where one is bad and ten is oh my God, somebody save me… This date gets a hundred. And I’m being nice. Tammy is, without a doubt, the rudest person I’ve ever met. It’s like she has no filter and says everything that pops up in her mind, she doesn’t care whether she may hurt someone or not.

I don’t get it. Why would Grimmy set me up with her? You don’t have to be a genius to know Tammy and I have nothing, and I repeat, nothing in common. You could have never found two people more different than us. And yet here I am, bearing with this awful girl.

“So, you and Grimmy are friends, uh? When did you two meet?” I question, trying to make small talk.

“So… what are you?” She asks instead of answering. I mean, can’t she be nicer? Is it that hard? “What’s your deal?” Tammy goes on when I don’t reply and I only stare at her. She is smoking, more than Mila and Zayn together. It’s like she takes a drag and lets it go immediately, she doesn’t hold it or anything like I’ve seen the guys doing. She almost looks like a little girl learning to smoke.

“What do you mean?” I inquire back

Tammy rolls her eyes evidently, not even trying to hide her annoyance with my question. It’s not my fault! She is not being clear. “I mean, what are you supposed to be? You look like a girl. Are you sure you’re not a lesbian pretending to be a boy? I’m telling you, being in a boy band doesn’t help cover up the fact that you’re a girl deep inside.”

See what I mean? Rude!

“And what are those?” She inquires next and I notice she is pointing at my tattoos. “Couldn’t you pick a girlier font for that one?” She refers to the sentence on my left arm. “Is that the mark left by a tyre?” Now she points at my right arm. “A feather? What are you? Demi Lovato? I mean, her tattoos fit her, she is a girl and she looks great, but you’re pretending to be a guy. It’s not working, mate.”

I breathe in deeply. I won’t fall for her games, I won’t. I close my eyes for three seconds and when I open them, she is smiling. She knows she is getting on my nerves, that I’m reaching my limit. I’m short-tempered, I can’t hold it for too long.

“You don’t have to be mean, you know? All this tattoos have an important meaning to me. This one,” I refer to the arrows on my right arm. “Are for my band mates. One Direction, remember? These are arrows.”

“Gay,” is all what she says. “Seriously, Noob, tattoos like those don’t make you look tough. You look even more like a lesbian.”

“Did you just call me a noob?” I ask, clenching my fists ever so tightly. I’m reaching my limit.

Her smile is cocky. “I did. Problem?” Again, I have to take a deep breath not to snap at her. “Is that or lesbian. You choose.”

“Okay, that’s it. I’m not gonna put up with this anymore. I’m leaving! I tried to make it work, you know, but you’re impossible.” To my surprise –okay, maybe not that big of a surprise– she laughs, leaning back in a very relaxed position, throwing her cigarette to the floor.

“But we’re just starting! You can’t give up on us!” She cries falsely, not even trying to make it sound real. “Like I care.”

“You are a twat, did you know that?” She nods, never losing her smile. “You’re obnoxious, rude and unbearable. The worst girl I’ve ever had the disgrace to meet. And you know what? I don’t have time for this.” I rise to my feet and turn around after throwing some pounds to the table to pay for my drink that I didn’t even finish. My knuckles are white, but I can’t relax yet. Plus, the paparazzi have been taking pictures of us all this time, I don’t even wanna know what they will say about this tomorrow.

“Have a lovely day! It was great to meet you, Noob! I’ll miss you,” She calls out loud and for a second I stop, ready to answer back but I contain myself and keep walking.

Worst. Date. Ever. I’m so going to kill Grimmy the next time I see him for making me go through this.

Paparazzi follow me and ask questions. How the fuck did they find out I was going to be here? I was careful not to mention anything and when I got here, they were waiting already. Did Grimmy tell them to make this even worse? Honestly, if this was a practical joke, he is a dead man.

“Are you and Tammy Rodenhizer dating now? Is she your new girlfriend?” One paparazzi asks and I ignore him.

“Are you just her new adventure?” This time I look at the man holding the camera. What does that mean? Is she what? A player or something? “Liam Payne, new addition to Tammy Rodenhizer’s list?”

Apparently, Tammy is indeed a player. And Grimmy set me up with her. Maybe he needs help.

I turn around, avoiding the man’s eyes and questions and keep walking towards my car, hoping that by the time I get home, I’ll be calm and all this will only be a bad memory. A band like Tammy’s and One Direction have nothing to do with each other, I don’t have a reason to see her again. Grimmy is our only connection and if he dares set us up again, I’ll throw Moni at him.

* * *

The next day, when I walk into the rehearsing room, I find more people than usual. I know I’m a bit late –and by a bit I mean thirty minutes. I just had a terrible night, I barely slept after that horrible date with Tammy. The lads are here already, as expected, however this time not only Alex is around, this time Moni and Mila are here too. Mila sometimes comes to see Zayn, but Moni has a job now at the same publishing house that signed Mila, she is Terry’s assistant, so she shouldn’t be here. And when she has some free time, she tries to spend that with Ed, doing nothing the lazy arses.

So I honestly don’t know why she is here instead of at work but she looks at me so intently when I step inside that I can’t move now, it’s like her eyes hold me on the spot. Suddenly, I have a bad feeling about the brunette being here.

Liaaaaaam,” she sings walking towards me, Mila closely behind, her smile humongous and that doesn’t smell right either. I have a feeling that I should turn my back on them and run. “My lovely and beautiful Daddy Direction!” She finally gets to my side and grabs my right arm, looping hers around. Mila does the same with my left arm.

“Am I in trouble?” I ask cautiously.

Moni and Mila laugh as if I’ve said the most hilarious joke ever, but I’m getting scared.

“Of course not, silly! We’re just happy for you… why didn’t you tell us you knew Tammy?” Mila asks and I feel my face changing. From fear to annoyance at the memory. “Why didn’t you tell us you were going to have a date with her!”

“You should’ve told us you knew her! You know how much we love her. Is she amazing? I bet she is!” Moni says all bubbly, and that is kind of scary, too.

Carefully, I wiggle my way out and step forward, putting a few feet of distance between us. Both girls look at me expectantly and I don’t even feel bad for blowing up their bubble. “Tammy is the most horrendous person I have ever met,” I say in a cold voice.

Their faces really fall at my words, but I don’t mind. Just saying her name makes me mad, I remember all the things she said to me.

“Grimmy set us up and I hate him now. She is the rudest person on the planet. She even called me a lesbian! I don’t even know her, why would she do that? I tried to be nice and make it work, but she is impossible!”

“I bet she is Kay’s friend,” Louis supports from afar. Just then I notice I’m practically shouting.

“I assume the date didn’t go well,” Mila muses and I feel the need to snort.

“It was the worst date of my whole life!” I cry out throwing my arms in the air. And turning around so I don’t have to see their faces.

It sucks when one of your idols disappoints you. Apparently, Tammy is from this band the girls have talked non-stop since they went to their gig. God, it is a small world.

“I love her even more!” Moni cries out and I stop, frozen on my spot again. Incredulously, I turn around just to see her dark eyes sparkling as much as her smile.

“What?” I ask. “I just told you she is awful and you say you love her more?” Sometimes Moni’s mind is way too bizarre for me.

“Yes! Don’t you see? If she were nice, it wouldn’t be Tammy. She is blunt, she doesn’t give a fuck. That’s her, it’s all what she sells. When she’s on stage, in interviews, red carpets. Everywhere! This only proves she is a real rockstar!”

“She is a twat,” I repeat, still confused as Moni’s smile grows only bigger.

“Exactly. She can’t be the nice one of the group, that’s Leanne’s job. Emma is the flirt and Skyler the oblivious one. Tammy is the rebel one. Each one has a different role in the band and that’s why they complement each other so well. Like you, guys,” Mila explains this time and I know that everyone is paying attention.

“But none of us is mean!” I protest, not liking a tad bit the comparison between her band and us.

“Have you seen Louis?” Moni retorts matter-of-factly.

“Oi!” Louis shouts from afar. “You’re not nice either!”

I hold back a chuckle and focus again on the two friends. “The thing is, Tammy has never tried to be nice and now that you tell us that she is, indeed, a twat, we can be sure that she has never been pretending to be this rebel, brutally honest girl. And that’s always great!”

I hadn’t noticed it, but Zayn has approached us and only now that he is next to his girlfriend I see him as he puts his arm over Mila’s shoulders.

“You think too much, babe,” he says with a smile that tells me he doesn’t mind at all. Next, he kisses her temple as she wraps her right arm around his waist. “You just have to enjoy their music.”

“And talking about music, you need to hear them. Prodigy is, without a doubt, my favourite bands now,” Alex adds to the conversation, walking into the music room to plug in her mobile and play some songs.

“No!” I groan, not wanting to talk about this band again, and certainly not Tammy; but no one listens to me.

God damn it! Why do Mila, Moni and Alex have to like Tammy’s band?

And why, oh why, do they have to sound so amazing? Damn Alex for showing me their music. Tammy is awful, but her band is beyond amazing. Such a pity, it would be great if she could act like a civilised person, but I guess some things are never meant to be. Tammy being nice is one.
