After the incident the other day, my family, Marcus and I all decided it would be best if we all went out to dinner.

Marcus and I agreed that the night was a success, for we could see obvious approving glances from my mother and father at dinner.

To Marcus, family is important. To me, I only see it as drama and added stress- but for some reason, Marcus makes it all okay. Even from the horribly noticable flaws my family has- Marcus still goes out of his way to talk to them and meet them, as well as making me stay connected to them in some way.

It's amazing how much things can change over a short period of time; in my case, one as short as two months.

I know the "change" thing sounds really cheesy... Okay, yeah, it's really cheesy.

But it's true, to be honest. A lot can change, a lot did change.

And it will continue to change forever, as strange as it seems.

We had a few hours left until Marcus' flight back to England, so I decided to take him somewhere he would probably appreciate.

I took him to my roof.

When we arrived at the top, he smiled widely without saying anything. We stood in silence until he came over to me and hugged me tightly, and I hugged him back just as tight.

I couldn't help but become teary-eyed as we held onto each other, him giving me a confused look and him asking, "What's wrong?"

"It's nothing."

"Ali," he gave a knowing look. "Talk to me. Please, let me be the therapist for once."

I chuckled at his comment and explained. "It's just that... I haven't been so happy. Ever. It's all falling into place, or at least that's how it seems."

"It doesn't seem like that; it is that," he replied. "Ali, I have never been around someone quite like you. Everything about you is what I ever looked for in a girl- funny, shy, modest, beautiful-"

I couldn't help but blush at that comment.

"-and I finally know someone whose cheeks get nearly as red as mine," he winked.

 "Ha ha," I replied.

He chuckled. "We've been through so much together."

"I know. If someone sent me this on paper I would have never believed them."

We stayed quiet for a bit more until he asked, "Were you really that interested in me when we first met?"

"So much it hurt," I admitted.

"Really?"

"Honest."

He gave me a skeptical look.

"Marcus, I love you more than anyone else. No one else understands me as much as you do. You make me feel okay when it seems like there's nothing left. You make me smile by just walking into a room."

"You're making me sound like an angel."

"Well, to me, you are."

"Then to me, you're fondue."

"Fondue?" I laughed.

"Yes. Because everybody loves fondue."

"Alright, sounds delightful."

Marcus smiled at me. "I love you, Ali."

"I love you too, Marcus."

Five years later...

Through it all, Marcus and I have stuck together. Everything. After I graduated from Boston University, I moved back out to London, where I stayed in an apartment (or should I say a "flat") and I had a job as a counseling psychiatrist. I haven't changed jobs since and I still love it so much.

After about a year in my flat, I moved in with Marcus, which was convenient not only because he's my boyfriend but also because it was closer to work and Drew, whom I still see very often to this day.

About two years ago was when Marcus proposed to me (indeed on a rooftop), and then a year ago was when we actually sealed the deal.

Life for me couldn't be greater.

Due to the fact that I'm a very science-y person, I don't believe in "fate" or "destiny" too much, or at least I don't anymore. I used to, I honestly did. That's what I thought brought Marcus and I together- like it was our destiny to become friends with Drew and end up meeting each other.

As the years have passed and I've thought about it more and more, I don't think it was fate per say, but I don't think it was a random coincidence either. I always thought there was something that lead us to each other, but at the same time, there was obviously nothing there dragging us to each other. I've driven myself close to insanity thinking about this madness.

So that's what I decided to classify our relationship as; what brought us together. What made us find each other. That word right there.

Insanity.
