I woke up, dreading the day ahead of me. How could I be forced to go to school every day with the constant fear of being hurt by my so-called sister. Somehow, she was related to me. She changed her last name, so most people didn’t know we were related. Aside from our eyes, you’d never know we were from the same parents. The same parents that always sided with her.

They never questioned the bruises, the scars, the tears. They just said the same thing every single day, “Oh, It’s just high school. That’s the way it is.”

Scrubbing my eyes, the makeup flaked off my face. What a beautiful way to start this awesome Thursday.

“Get down stairs Rayne, you’re going to miss the bus!” my mother screamed in her stupid high-pitched voice.

When would she ever get that I wanted to miss the bus? I slipped out of my pajamas and into a pair of white skinny jeans and my favorite Asking Alexandria shirt. I slipped on my favorite Stilettos and chuckled. At least fashion made me feel better.

I pranced down the stairs, not bothering to brush my hair or teeth. I threw a mint in my mouth, praying for the best. I didn’t have time to do anything.  My backpack was already on my shoulder and I walked out the front door. Now what would happen? Maybe someone would notice that I didn’t look anything like the girl they used to know. But it was unlikely. I would be mocked. If it wasn’t my outfit, it was my hair, if it wasn’t my hair, it was my personality.

I inhaled and exhaled.

It wasn’t fair. My sister drove to school every day and I was forced to take the gigantic yellow beast that never brought me to school on time. I sighed as it stopped right in front of me. I clicked my heels up the steps of the old school bus, smiling slightly at the driver. I mean, the bus driver was always nice to me. The people on the bus? Not so much.

I slid into the first seat on the left, next to my best friend.

“Hey Rayne,” he smiled, making my heart flutter, “I like your heels today. They’re sexy.”

“Thanks, Xander,” I grinned, “So did you get that project finished?” I practically screamed over all the noise on the bus.

I was one of the last people on the bus and that could be a good thing or a bad thing. The good thing about it was that the ride was always short either way. The bad thing was that it was always difficult to find a seat in the morning... And there was no way in hell I ever wanted to sit alone on that bus... after last week's incident.

“Yes, no thanks to you!”

“It’s not my fault that you picked up your phone and decided to talk to me.”

He rolled his eyes, “I didn’t know a picking up the phone was such a commitment.”

I laughed. At least he always knew how to get me to laugh. I was so lucky to have a friend like Xander. He was the one person who would never judge me by my looks. He would always stick up for me. He was always there for me. Something landed in my hair but I didn’t need to look to know what it was. Xander leaned over and picked it out of the rats nest, sighing quietly.

“When are you going to tell someone about this?”

I looked down at my hands. When was I? I didn’t even have an answer for that question.

“That’s what you get you slut!” I heard a voice taunt me and laughter filled up the bus.

The bus stopped again. And I had to get my mind off of people being annoying - Who likes constantly annoying people? They are like gigantic zits on your face. I have never met a person who likes zits, so... annoying people equal zits.

“BRIE!” I yelped, “Oh my God! You look so pretty today!” I barely had met her, well aside from a few times in class and stuff. I didn't know her as well as Xander probably did, but maybe that would change. Maybe she'd help me with my... problems.

She blushed and sat down next to me, “Thanks Ray.”

“Uh-huh,” I smiled, “I can guess who you’re looking like that for. Does his name rhyme with Bill and start with a W?”

Her face turned darker, “No.”

“Oh, Brie, no use hiding your secrets from us!” Xander laughed.

The bus hit a bump in the road. I bounced off the seat, nearly flying into the ceiling of the bus. I landed on something soft and warm.

“Ow.”

I squirmed on Xander’s lap, “OhmygoshIamsosorryareyouokay?” I said in one breath.

He laughed, “Yeah. Did you hit your head? Are you alright?”

“Mhm,” I couldn’t help but stare into his dark blue eyes, watching him carefully. One day I would be able to decode his thoughts.

The bus lurched to it’s final stop outside Green River High School, the prison I attended because my parents couldn’t afford to send me to private school, even with my straight A’s. And as I stepped off the bus, I couldn’t help but feel a set of eyes on me. He always managed to find me right as I stepped off the bus - the one, the only, Drew Acevedo. He was the school’s bully, the bad boy, the most horrifying person you could ever meet. Rumor had it that he killed his own brother’s girlfriend just because she was looking at another guy.

“Hey, did you get the answer to the first problem on the Math homework?” Brie tapped my shoulder, pulling me out of my frozen state.

“Uhm, it was negative two plus or minus the square root of seven all over six.”

My photographic memory helped sometimes. Not all of the time.

“Oh,” she laughed, “Tell me again when we get to first period because I need to copy your homework again. Seriously, this Math crap gets me so confused.”

I shrugged, “Okay.”

“You’re going to let her copy your homework?” Xander choked with surprise, “But you won’t even let me copy it!”

“Who said I would let her copy my work?”

“Well, that’s what I wanted to copy. If I wanted the answers, I could copy out of the back of the book.”

“For the odd ones. What would you do for the even ones?”

She shrugged.

“Hey,” I felt his hand (not Xander's, unfortunately) snake around my waist.

I sighed, “I’ll see you later Brie.”

“Oh,” she chuckled, “Have fun.”

His voice whispered in my ear, “We’ll have more than just fun today.” What did Drew have in mind for today? I shuddered slightly.

“Drew, get your hands off my girlfriend,” Xander said in an annoyed tone.

“Oh yeah? What are you going to do about it fag?”

“Fuck you, you’re all talk and no game!”

What the hell did Xander have in his breakfast this morning? Did he want to get pulverized. The hand slid from my waist and rested on my butt.

“Hm? What did you say?” Drew chuckled, flicking his long bangs out of the way of his RayBans. His signature smile creeped up on his face. That sick pervert would be smiling. Ew.

“Drew! I didn’t know we were starting early!” Topaz’s long red and perfectly curled hair popped up right next to me, “Why are you touching that filthy whore?”

His face contorted, “I don’t know.”

“Do you know how many STDs she has? She fucked almost the entire school! Don’t get too close!”

His hand fell from my body and back to his side, “What were you thinking today?”

She smiled, “Well, Rayne here is wearing a pair of white pants.” I cringed, she wouldn’t ruin another pair of my pants, would she?

“Don’t touch her,” Xander pulled me away from Drew and Topaz, “You people are sick. Go fuck yourselves.”

“She doesn’t need Drew for that,” another male approached us, “Sorry I’m late. Did I miss it?”

“Not yet, babe,” Topaz kissed his lips in an overly sick manner before turning back to me, “Xander, run off to class now, this is a big girl issue, okay?”

“Not a chance.”

“Will,” she nodded to Xander. Before I could comprehend what was happening, Xander and Will were both gone.

She smiled at me, “Rayne, I think you’ve got a major problem today.”

I frowned, “That’s it? I always have problems.”

“Why don’t you just shut up for one fucking minute and listen to me, you little bitch,” she pulled on the top of my head, “Bend over!”

“No.”

“Bend over!”

“NO!”

The bell rang. But that wouldn’t stop her from whatever she was about to do. She had to get her sick pleasure out of me. I felt a fist hit me in the stomach, forcing me to bend, clutching it.

“That’s better. Rayne, the virgin. Maybe you could change that this morning, huh, Drew?”

“Just do it,” he said in an annoyed voice and somewhat disgusted voice, “I have to get to class or I’ll get another detention.”

I felt something wet hit the back of my jeans. I could feel the fabric sticking.

“Enjoy your period! A gift from me, mother-fucking-nature!” She pushed me over onto the gravel. I didn’t respond. Another one of her cruel pranks. I heard her high pitched laugh, feeling her stomp on my fingers for the second time that week. I let a small tear escape from my eyes.

“Let’s go,” she said to Drew and they walked back into the school.

I sat up, feeling the blood against my cheek, frowning to myself. Why did I let this happen? Xander was right, I should be standing up to defend who I was. But I never did. I guess I liked giving Topaz her satisfaction. I was a slave to her sickness.

“Rayne?” someone touched my back, “Are you alright?”

I looked up, half expecting Xander, or maybe Vic (my other best friend who was home sick for the week), but I exhaled loudly. “Rayne?” a similar voice from before, but overly velvety, danced through my ears.

“Leave me alone, you’ve had your fun for the day.”

He frowned - Drew Acevedo frowned. What was wrong today?

“I - it’s not what you think - I - Rayne - Topaz and Will - but I mean - you.”

I rolled my eyes and squirmed slightly, sitting up, “That made sense?”

“I’m really sorry,” he admitted, “I don’t want to hurt you. You have to understand that... We’re both just pawns in her sick game. Topaz is a bitch, a fucking sick manipulative bitch.”

“She’s my sister, you don’t have to explain it to me,” I shouted at him.

His eyes went wide.

“Oh shit,” I sighed, “I didn’t say that.”

“I knew there was always more to it,” he growled, “But I can’t... stop. I have to do what I do to you.”

“No, you don’t!” I said with an annoyed tone, “You don’t have to!”

He frowned, “That’s where you’re wrong, Rayne-drop. Look, I can’t say anymore. But I felt like I had to tell you.”

“Dude, what the fuck are you doing?” I heard Will’s voice carry across the front of the school.

“I can’t - I,” he looked at me and back to Will, “Finishing her off,” he looked back at me, pain smeared across his face like a preschooler would do to a wall with a bunch of crayons, “I’m sorry. I’m so sorry, Rayne.” With one quick movement, his hand landed forcefully just below my ear, throwing me into the darkness.

I woke up in a bed, with Brie patting my head. “What the hell happene-” I sat up only to hit my head against Brie’s hand.

“No, lay down,” she said quietly, “It’s going to hurt more if you get up. What the hell happened to you? Mr. Wilson ran right out of class when he saw you outside just laying there in Drew’s arms. Are you go tell me this time?”

I sighed, “It’s hard to explain.”

“And what the hell happened to your pants? It looked like you started to have yo-”

“I know what it looks like.”

“Sorry,” she blurted, “I’m just worried about you. I don’t know what’s going on. Tell me, please...”

“Well,” I honestly thought about explaining it to her but then again, I couldn’t really say when it started, or why, or how it turned out this way. I couldn’t tell her that Topaz and Will were living in my house, or that the torment never ended, or that Will wasn’t her dream guy! I am not one to crush dreams. With that in mind, I never bothered finishing my statement.

“Fine,” she sighed, “Stay here, so my mom doesn’t freak out about having you in the house again,” she rolled her eyes and walked out of the room.

My cell phone buzzed on the nightstand next to me.

Rayne-bow, you okay? - XxanD.

I shut my phone and put it back on that stupid nightstand. When would he ever stop worrying about me? I could take care of myself perfectly fine. I sat up in Brie’s bed. Her room was so pretty compared to mine. The dark blue stripes were so perfect. I sighed, glancing at her large bay window. The rain pattering against it.

How strange. Rayne-drop. That’s what Drew called me. And now it was raining.

I watched a dark black sports car pull up in the driveway across the street. Two figures got out of the car - two that I would have known even if it was foggy outside and I couldn’t see them all that well - Drew and Steven. They were twins that looked nothing alike. Well, at least their hairstyles and personalities were completely different.

Drew had long brown hair, that he always straightened, that passed his shoulders. But Steven had black medium length hair that was always sloppily piled on the top of his head. I could never understand how they were twins.

I watched them as they walked across the lawn up to their front door, hanging out under the overhang.
They were arguing, or something, from the hand motions that Drew was making, it was kind of obvious. They might as well have put a giant flashing “WE’RE FIGHTING” sign above their heads. That would actually make it less obvious...

“What are you doing?” Brie returned, “What did I tell you about getting up! You are ridiculous, Rayne!”

“Tell me something I don’t know...”
