Shawn's POV
Today was the day of the fifth meet-and-greet of the week, and even though it was the very beginning of the tour, I was already used to everything. I didn't expect to be a part of a huge thing like magcon, but now that I am, I can't imagine anything else.
Three hours in, and I was pretty much blind from all the camera flashes. Even though everything is in black and white for me at the moment, the flash of light seems to be extra white. A lot of them were selfies on iPhone or Samsung cameras, but even more people brought their canons or nikons or polaroids, to my own surprise.
I sit in between Jack Gilinsky and Cameron Dallas at the moment, Cam signing some girl's t-shirt while Jack engages in conversation with a girl who was coming to me next.
I sit awkwardly while I wait, accidentally picking up on the conversation of the two girls behind her, who were holding their cameras in their hands.
"You look soooo nervous," one girl says to the other, and I assumed they were friends or something. "Remember, Shawn and Cam can both see in color. They can see you blushing."
Why would she think I can see in color? Doesn't she know how the world works for us? I have to find my one true love to see in color. Maybe she thinks I already have.
"How do you know they can? Is it that noticeable?" the girl on the left asks.
"How would I know? Your face is just white to me. If you're blushing, it's grey."
"Is it grey?"
"A little bit. Oh, it's your turn, good luck!" she pushes the girl towards Jack, who smiles brightly. Suddenly the girl Jack was previously talking to was right in front of me.
"Hi S-Shawn," she manages. I look up, trying to catch her eyes. If I meet her eyes and everything becomes colorful, maybe this is her. I know it's hopeless to look for my soul mate at a fan conference, but you can never be too hopeful.
I sigh when I realize everything stays the exact same way it was before. She looked kind of disappointed too.
"Can you sign this?" she asks, handing me a photograph of all of the guys together. I peak over my shoulder at the girl nervously talking to Jack, trying to eavesdrop again.
"Shawn?"
I turn. "What? Oh, right. Of course."
I grab my sharpie and rip the cap off with my teeth, signing my name next to my picture.
"Thank you," she smiles sweetly when I hand it back to her.
"No problem, honey," I smile.
I twist the cap back on, my eyes away from the space in front of me when suddenly there was another female voice, this one familiar from her very-much-heard conversation earlier, except now, her voice was a lot more audible.
"How are you?" I say without looking up.
I could feel her eyes on me, but she turned away the second I lifted my head.
"I'm good," she answers, chuckling nervously.
"Well good, do you want me to si -"
She slowly turns back towards me, and with that single movement, the color in her eyes suddenly jumps out at me.
There it was.
The lock of her gaze, so captivating, it was enough to send me over the edge. The sudden burst of color, swirling around me in waves and rushes of wind, landing on every tablecloth and hair color and sign and letter in the place, but my eyes didn't ever leave hers.
I react so quickly, I almost didn't know what I was doing. I just reach out for her hand, and she lets me take it. I blink three times, feeling the buzzing in my veins that felt like an awakening, like my vision was suddenly clear.
"What's your name?" I ask desperately.
"You saw that too??" her grin stretches from ear to ear, her lips a soft pink, skin now glowing with color.
I bite my lip, my hand still wrapped around hers. "Yes!"
"My name is Y/N," she tells me, stepping a little bit closer to the table.
I grab her other hand.
"Well, Y/N," I say slowly. "I guess we're soul mates."
