"Tony, don't worry about it. I'll handle everything," Evangeline said into her phone as she walked into the main lounge where everyone was just chilling out. "No, don't bother Pepper. She is busy enough as it is...Okay drama queen fine I won't say a word. Bye."
The young enchantress collapsed on the couch with a groan, causing the rest of the Avengers to chuckle at her childlike antics. She recently joined the Avengers considering her skills with blades and magical abilities. Though she has only been with them for two years, Eva has brought so much joy into Stark Tower. Because of her, the following happened: Bruce hadn't hulked out, Tony was more bearable, Clint was telling better jokes, Natasha was showing more emotions, Steve was dating again, Thor was now familiar with the world and the people in it and lastly she got the team to accept Loki (who joined the team a little before her). Her sea green eyes looked up at the group with a fake glare. Steve asked the young girl, "What's wrong, 'Geline?"
"You guys all know about Anna?" They all nodded their heads. Anna was the offspring of Tony's and some lady who passed away last year. When the billionaire found out he had a seven year old daughter who lost her mother, he took her in much to everyone's surprise and Pepper's happiness. Everyone loved the youngest Stark. "Well, Tony wants me to plan a surprise party for her while he's still on his business trip."
"What is so bad about that?" Clint asked, lifting up Natasha's legs so he can sit down.
"I don't know what to do! I have never planned a party before, let alone a kid's birthday party."
Bruce wrapped his arm around the frazzled brunette. "Don't worry, 'Geline. Everything will be fine. Plus, you have us to help."
As she smiled at the scientist, Loki looked up from his book to the two with a mixture of jealousy and longing. The god of mischief has fallen for the girl for quite some time now. She has bewitched him with her smile, her shining personality, her beauty...her everything. Because of her compassionate nature, Evangeline was able to befriend the cold man who slowly took down his walls. Thanks to her, the team saw Loki for who he really was and Thor was able to get his brother back. In fact she was able to convince Loki to make amends with Odin, who she had to threaten to get him to listen to her (it was hilarious to see a powerful king tremble in fear of an all powerful sorceress).
Back to the moment at hand, Loki saw that she asked a question. "What was that?"
Geline looked at him. "I asked if anyone had any ideas what we can do for Anna's birthday."
Everyone started shouting things.
"Strippers!"
"Clint! This is a kids' party. Not yours."
"Really you're worse than Stark."
"Poptarts! There must be a legion of those delectable treats."
"Don't girls like glitter?"
"How about a princess theme?" Everyone looked at Loki, who had suggested that.
"That's perfect! She loves the idea of being a princess...Wait a minute, I got an amazing idea, but I'm gonna need some magic." Evangeline said with a twinkle in her eye. Loki smirked at the thought of using magic with her. Together they were able to do the unthinkable.
He walked up to her and leaned forward with that same smirk on his face. "When do we start?"
Later on that day in the library:
After begging him to watch the movie, both magicians watched a particular scene from the movie Anastasia, where she daydreamed about her attending a ball while singing "Once upon a December". Geline paused the movie and looked up to the man beside her. "So what do you think?"
"Let me see if I understand you. You want to recreate this scene for the child because she bonded with you over this film?"
"Yup. Loki think about it. With our magic, we will able to create the most beautiful and glorious ball. With all of the beautiful gowns, dancing...please Loki I know how much you care for Anna."
At that moment, the girl in question came skipping in. Geline snapped her fingers, causing the IPad to disappear. The little girl's brown eyes looked at them and asked, "Did Daddy call today?"
"I'm sorry sweetie. He hasn't," She lied.
Anna looked down sadly. "He hasn't called in months. I miss him."
Loki did care for the child more than he'll admit to. He lifted her chin and wiped her tears. "No need to cry darling. He will call soon."
"You think?" Her doe eyes appeared, making her more precious.
"I know. Here," All the sudden, a teddy bear dressed as Iron Man appeared in the god's hands. "to remember your father by."
A smile immediately came. After a hug and a bunch of thank yous, she skipped out of the room. Evangeline's heart almost burst. After a year of having feelings for the man beside her, she admitted to herself that she loved him with every fiber of her being. Though she did care for him, she did not want to lose her amazing friendship with Loki.
Loki looked at the brunette with a raised eyebrow. "Why are you looking at me like that, mortal?"
She shook her head. "I feel bad for your children. You'll spoil them rotten."
"If I have children. No woman wants to be with a beast like me." His face crestfallen at a thought of being alone and not being loved.
Her heart clenched with sympathy. Immediately, she grabbed his hand causing him to look into her beautiful green eyes. "Loki, I forbid you for speaking of yourself like that. You're an amazing man. The right woman will come. Don't lose hope, okay?"
Loki looked at her with a hidden emotion. I found her. She is right in front of me, but you do not feel the same as I do. He smiled at her. "What did I ever do to deserve you?"
She blushed as he gave her a side hug. "By being yourself."
After a few moments of being in each other's company in silence and comfort, Loki responded. "I think we can accomplish the task at hand."
A few weeks later:
Jumping in place, Geline was excited for what was about to happen. After all these weeks of planning and studying, she had planned the perfect party for little Anna Stark. Her earpiece brought her out of her excitement. "Captain is coming down with the princess."
"Copy that. Green, get ready to play the track. Hawkeye, is everybody ready?"
"Yeah, everyone is here except Widow."
"Don't worry, I sent Widow on her own mission."
Hearing the elevator doors open, Geline saw the confusion on little Stark's face as she saw the destroyed room around her. The little girl started looking around the destroyed dining room, touching some of the objects. Going back to her hiding spot, she put her hand on the earpiece and said with a smile, "Green, play the track."
The music began to play, causing Anna's eyes to widen. She looked back to Steve who mysteriously disappeared. Now, words joined in with the familiar music. "Dancing bears, painted wings. Things I almost remember and a song someone sings Once upon a December. Someone holds me safe and warm. Horses prance through a silver storm. Figures dancing gracefully across my memory."
Watching Anna act the part of Anastasia made both Loki and Evangeline chuckle at the sight. As soon as the last line was singing, Geline quickly said into the earpiece, "Hawkeye, Green, Cap, make sure everyone gets out as soon as Loki and I do our thing."
The exact moment memory was sang, the two magical beings casted their spells towards the ceiling, causing the whole dirty room into a beautiful ballroom with a chandelier lighting the whole room. As each person came out, their clothes transformed into elegant dresses and handsome suits. Anna's eyes grew bigger and bigger as all her friends and their parents bowed to her in their amazing attire.
As the dancing began, Anna was so happy as everything was unfolding. Geline looked at her phone smiling and texted really quickly, causing Loki to raise his eyebrow in suspicion. "Far away, long ago glowing dim as an ember things my heart used to know Once upon a December."
Anna bowed back to all of her guests as she started singing along with song. The Avengers, all dressed beautifully, approached along with Pepper. The girl gave her step mom a hug. After their quick hug, the red headed gave her a necklace. In their hiding spot, Geline gestured Loki to do his final trick for the night.
"Someone holds me safe and warm. Horses prance through a silver storm. Figures dancing gracefully Across my memory."
When the line came to an end, he transformed Anna's jeans and t-shirt into an exact replica of what Anastasia wore in the movie, tiara and all. Each of the male members of the team, starting with Steve, offered to her to dance with them. As she was dancing with all of them, Geline said into her earpiece, "Green, when you have your dance with her, spin her off to the next guy."
"But there is no next guy."
"Yes there is. Natasha got him just in time."
"Far away, long ago glowing dim as an ember. Things my heart used to know. Things it yearns to remember..."
Everyone in the room, except Evangeline who was smiling, was shocked to see Tony Stark in his royal attire dressed exactly like Anastasia's dad, offering his hand to dance with his princess. After the shock came over, Anna ran to her dad screaming, "Daddy! You came home!"
"And a song someone sings once upon a December..."
Tony enveloped his daughter swinging her around in a circle as the song reached its end. Pepper was getting teary eyed at the sight of the reunion. When the song reached its end, everyone clapped for the two masterminds behind it all. Evangeline turned around to see Loki smiling at her. "You had Natasha bring the man of iron home four weeks early for his daughter's birthday. How thoughtful of you."
She shrugged. "All she wanted for her birthday was for him to come home. Our princess gets what she wants. Now time for us to join the party."
Loki changed into his formal Asgardian clothing. As he turned around, his breath was taken away. Evangeline was a vision of beauty in white ivory. She was wearing a white halter dress that reflected a Greek goddess. Her long brown hair was done in an elegant bun with white pearls in it as her bangs framed her face. Seeing Loki in normal clothes for years, she forgot how handsome he looked in Asgardian clothes. They were in trance until Natasha came into their hiding spot and said, "Guys, everyone is wondering where you are."
Shaking themselves from their trance, Loki offered his arm which the enchantress accepted. They walked out receiving all the applause. Tony and Anna came up to the pair thanking them. Geline smirked at the billionaire. "Tony I told you not to worry."
He sighed. "You're right, but it's my little girl. I wanted her first birthday with me to be memorable." For a moment, Geline saw the soft daddy side of Tony until..."Plus do you blame me. You have horrible taste."
She crossed her arms. "Oh really?"
Before words can out, Anna hugged Geline. "Thank you so much, Genie."
"No problem, princess."
Then the little girl hugged Loki, who gave her her present. Smiling at the sight of Loki with Anna made Evangeline smile thinking he would make a great dad to someone one day. Tony whispered in her ear, "So you and Reindeer Games?"
The brunette blushed. "I have no idea what you are talking about."
"Are you kidding me? You have had a thing for him for ages. I had hoped these few months you guys would do something."
"Tony...don't you dare do anything." She warned the billionaire.
"La, la, la sorry I'm not listening." Tony sang with his ears plugged using his fingers as he was walking away to socialize.
Silently cursing underneath her breath, Evangeline went over to the refreshment table where her friends were. As she was catching up with them, she saw Loki entertaining the children with his magic. Often, he would catch her stare and smile back at her.
After everyone ate, the DJ put on a waltz to slow it down a bit. Evangeline smiled at seeing Steve and his date, Sharon, dancing together. She was too busy watching the dancing that she didn't notice Loki approach her. Clearing his throat, Geline looked up at him with smile as he offered his hand. "No one as ravishing as you should be a spectator."
Accepting his invitation, the couple went into the center of the dance floor. Their eyes were solely on each other as they swayed to the music. Loki couldn't help but think how lovely she looked under the light. Then again she always looked beautiful even when she was wearing sweats at their home. Okay, it's now or never. Taking a breath, he said softly, "Evangeline?"
Their green eyes met. "Yes, Loki what is it?"
His hand caressed her cheek, making her grasp. "My beautiful Angel...I must tell you how ardently I admire and love you."
At first, Loki thought he had made a mistake, but then Evangeline stood on her tip toes and pressed her lips against his. She whispered, "I love you too, Loki."
His smile dazed her for a moment until he kissed her back. They were like that until they needed to breathe. Evangeline smiled as she realized something. "Did you just quote Pride and Prejudice to me?"
The god of mischief laughed. "I told you I would read the book."
The newly formed couple stayed like that for a while. The Avengers smiled at the sight and Clint groaned, giving Tony his money. Anna who was on her dad's shoulders asked loudly for even the couple to hear, "Can I be the flower girl at your wedding?"
Everyone laughed, causing Geline to blush and Loki smirk.
