Galar has been selected!
Being the new Chairman of Galar after what happened last year was exhausting. If Leon were a weaker man, he would have admitted that maybe Rose's insane plan to bring back the Darkest Day had some justification. Hour after hour of paperwork, press conferences and managing Macro Cosmos sapped away at his energy, and he flopped down on his bed after letting Charizard out for his daily exercise.
Leon felt his Rotom Phone vibrate, and swiped up. Huh. Altaria finally updated Twitter. He didn't know why the update came in chunks for every region. Maybe some technical stuff. He didn't know.
Humming in content, he tapped on the blue icon and scrolled through feed. Some guy showing off his Corviknight, an advert for Celebrity's new premium psychic scarf, another selfie of Raihan...
Hey! Someone made fanart! There wasn't anything prohibiting creating fanart of official league, but it was seen as awkward to draw digital art of them. Painted portraits had more value, and could be sent in the mail. Why'd they decide to make it digitally?
Also, their was this weird blur filter over the image. Leon shrugged. New feature? Wonder what it's for. He tapped on the image.
Chairman Leon's embarrassed screech could be heard from Wedgehurst as he was flashed with a very detailed image of himself and Raihan.

The next day, almost all of the regional professors were crammed into a single call, their cameras pointed directly at their work desks as they poured over Twitter for more information.
"Okay,to get this out of the way, did we finish all two thousand and three hundred of those Pokemon and their names?"
Oak, rubbing his forehead with a towel, sighed. "Yes. It took me a while to remember that computers exist, and I could just import all of the tweets and their photos."
"Alright. Now, Burnet, you've contacted the Aether Foundation about this, right?"
"No. After the Ultra Space... Incident, I'm not willing to give any of this to Lusamine. She's still in therapy recovering from what happened, and I don't think this will help." The researcher glanced at her notes. "But... for Twitter to be connected, the space-time distortion must be on a small scale. Nothing's going in or out from the other side."
Kukui, who was next to her, was scrolling through the categorization of the images. "Alright. But tell me, why are all of them lumped into egg groups instead of typing?"
"That's the point." Birch, who was helping facilitate the discussion, fiddled with the collar of his lab coat. "We don't know their typings yet.
"But... all of them seem to be normal type? Or maybe flying type for the birds at least."
"None of the tweets said anything about typing, and we had an hour-long argument about the topic before I had to break it up. Next. Topic." Birch really didn't want to start another argument about that again. He swears he'd never heard Rowan get that loud before until Elm suggested that a "cockatiel" was electric type.
"All of these Pokemon seem to be domesticated, and since most if not all of the photos are in an urban area of some sort, we can assume they're acclimated to human settlements."
Birch pulled up a spreadsheet with multiple sections onto his projector screen. On it were the temporary groupings of the Pokemon. "As we can see, the most prominent of the species fall under the "canine" and "feline" group, with seventy-four percent of the photos depicting these breeds."
He then switched to another tab, depicting a slide with an unidentified plain-gold Pokemon on it. Elm eyed it's fur coat and commented on how well-groomed it was. "This Pokemon was the most common canine shared in the photos. Most sources say it's a 'golden retriever', but some were 'Labrador retrievers' instead." Birch swiped to the left. On the next slide was an image of more similar canines, this time in varying colors. "These were also classified as 'Labrador retrievers', so we can assume that they are the main canine species of 'retrievers'."
"While all golden retrievers are Labrador retrievers, not all Labrador retrievers are golden retrievers. From this, we can assume golden retrievers are a specialty subgroup bred for a specific purpose."
Samson Oak started to protest, but the irritated looks of his colleagues told him to shut up. Huffing, he sat back down. "But what if golden retrievers are a regional variant instead?"
Birch nodded. "We can't rule that out either, so we'll have to look into it later. Now, onto the feline group."
He clicked to the next slide, which was filled with cat pictures and a bunch of question marks. "The users on the other side were much more unsure of feline breeds, and couldn't give the species name for most of them." Birch scratched his beard with one hand as he petted his Poochyena with the other. "It's for a good reason, too: most of the species look similar and have little to no distinguishing features. Heck, I saw ten different species names that all had similar stripes!"
The host groaned as he moved onto the next slide. "The only notable breed I saw was something called a "Sphynx". Completely hairless! And the user said it was natural!" Most of the professors either looked intrigued or grimaced at the fleshy cat.
"Reminds me of Mew," Oak commented, showing off his own picture. Juniper snapped up at that. "Wait, you're saying it looks like Mew? The ancestral Pokemon Mew? Origin of all Pokemon Mew? That Mew?"
He nodded. She hastily scrawled it down on her own notepad.
Birch, feeling tired already, moved on. "Great. Just great. Now onto the reptiles."
