I was starting to regret my costume while I was walking in the street, because it was really cold. I should have listened to Charlie when she told me to bring a jacket but I told her that it didn't match the outfit.

Even now, I still stand by that.

I was dressed as a black cat. I was wearing a black turtle neck shirt and skirt and tights of the same color. I put on a pair of cat ears and I used an eyeliner to create a cat-eye look. I also used it to draw a cat nose.

I was walking in the street towards Allison's house where her parents were hosting some Halloween fancy party just like they do every year. I was looking at the children in the streets, all dressed up and knocking on every door in the street to ask for candy.

I smiled, feeling nostalgic. Charlie always says that high school and college are the best years of my life, but I strongly disagree. I wasn't done with being a teenager yet, after all I was only one day away of turning 16, but I still know that the best years of my life were my childhood. When I would come back from school not feeling overwhelmed with work. When I could just randomly ask someone if they wanted to be friends with me without being considered weird. When my mom would tuck me into bed and told me a bedtime story.

She has been gone for almost three years and even though I was finally accepting it, the pain was still there, deep down.

I stopped walking as soon as I recognized Allison's house, or should I say mansion, but when I was walking towards it, someone bumped into me.

"Watch it!" I yelled, but I switched my angry tone for a laugh. "You again?"

Max looked at me, looking embarrassed. "I'm sorry. Again."

"Man, you really need to watch where you're going." I laughed. "Good thing you didn't had your bike."

"I keep telling him that." That's when I noticed a little girl behind him, sitting on the floor in front of Allie's house. She was dressed as a witch and looked like she was 8 or 9 years old.

"This is Dani, my sister!" Max introduced.

"Hi, Dani, I'm Lizzie." I waved at her, smiling.

"I know." She smiled back at me. I looked at her, surprised while Max gave her a different look. He looked more embarrassed.

"You guys are trick or treating? I thought you weren't into that stuff?"

He took of his cap. "I'm just taking care of my sister. I always do it."

"Our parents made him." Dani explained. "I love your costume!"

"Thanks! I love yours too!" I smiled at her. "And what are you supposed to be?" I asked Max.

"Nothing, I don't really like to dress up." He explained. "You look gorgeous though."

I felt my face heat up when he said that. Thank God it was too dark for him to see me blush, but his little sister seemed to notice, but quickly shifted her gaze towards Allison's house, with a shocked look in her face. "Wow!" Her and Max said at the same time.

"Check out this house!" Max stated.

"Eh, rich people." Dani pretended not to care. "They'll probably make us drink cider, bob for apples."

"They do, but they also have candy. I'm meeting a friend there." I told them, earning an impressed look from Dani. "You guys wanna come in? Rich people have the best candy."

They nodded with their heads, and the three of us just walked towards the house. The door was always open for Halloween, so we didn't even rang the doorbell.

"Trick or treat." They asked, but when they noticed the big bowl of candy right in the hall, they didn't wait for an answer. "Jackpot!"

I laughed at them shoving a big amount of candy in their pockets. I did the same the first time that I went to Allison's house on Halloween.

"Hey, Lizzie." Speaking of her. She was standing on the top of the stairs, dressed with one of the biggest dresses that I have ever seen.

"Hey, Marie Antoinette." I joked, running towards her.

"Allison!" Max said, looking shocked. Right, I forgot to mention that the friend of mine was the girl he liked. Ah, it wasn't painful at all.

"Hey, Max." She said, politely.

"Dani." The little girl said, trying to be included.

"Nice to meet you!" Allison said. "Do you guys want some cider?" Dani gave me and Max a I-told-you-so look.

"Sure." Max replied. I had to keep myself from rolling my eyes.

Allison walked towards the table in the living room, and that's when I noticed the rest of the guests. They all looked straight out of the french monarchy. "No cider for me thanks, just let us have cake!" I joked again. Okay, that sounded much funnier in my head.

Allison giggled, giving Max a red cup filled with cider. "So, how's the party?"

"Boring." She replied, giving me a cup filled with Coke. She knew that was my favorite. "It's just a bunch of my parents' friends. They do this every year."

"And I rescue her every year." I said. "How much time do you need to stay?"

"I promised I would stay until nine and a half and it's 9:25." She checked the clock on wall.

"It's only five minutes, they won't notice." Dani stated.

"Trust me, they will." Allison took a sip from her cup. "By the way, Dani, I love your costume."

"Thank you. I really like yours too." The little girl complimented. "Of course, I couldn't wear anything like that because I don't have any... What do you call 'em, Max? Yabos?"

Her brother chocked on his drink, and I couldn't help but laugh at it. And, because Dani seemed to enjoy embarrassing her brother, she kept talking about how much Max loved some... you got it.

Max just looked at her like he wanted to kill her. Poor guy, he was going to overthink this conversation for the rest of the night. Or, if he was like me, for a couple of months.

"I'm really into witches." I changed the subject, trying to spare Max this. He was silent, but I could see that he was thanking me.

"Really? Me, too." Dani asked, excited. "We just learned about those sisters in school."

"You mean the Sanderson sisters?" Allie asked. "Liz and I know all about them, our moms used to run the museum."

"There's a museum about them?" Dani asked, curious.

"Yeah, but they shut it down because..." Allison stopped talking, looking at me. I formed the words 'It's okay' on my lips. She got closer to Dani. "A lot of spooky things happened there."

The reason was that Allison's mother just couldn't do it without my mother, so she shut it down. The exact same reason why I stopped with the trick or treating.

"Well, why don't we go to this old Sanderson house?" Max suggested, surprising me, but I knew why he suggested it. To get closer with Allison. I just wanted to punch him in that moment, mostly because I didn't want the guy that I liked to flirt with my best friend on the place that my mother used to own.

However, Allison was seemed to unaware of this possibility, because she instantly agreed to it. "Yeah, why not? We haven't been in that place in three years."

"I don't know..." I said, getting his attention.

"Come on, you're the one who told me that Halloween is the best day of the year. This is your chance to make a believer out of me." He begged me. Okay, begging is a strong word. He asked me.

To be honest, I missed that place. That was the only reason why I agreed to it, and also because I knew she didn't like him. "Alright, fine. Dani, are you cool with it?"

She looked hesitant. I kneeled in front of her. "Hey, you don't have to worry, we're going to be there with you."

Max looked at her, and god, all he needed was to get on his knees, because he was with a begging look on his eyes. "Alright, fine, but next year, we are going trick or treating as Wendy and Peter Pan."

He looked hesitant for a moment. "Fine."

"And you're going to have to wear tights or it's no deal."

Max briefly looked at me, and all I did was cross my arms. "Deal."

"Great, I'm going to change and I'll be right back. Lizzie, come with me." Allison grabbed me by my hand and dragged me to her room.

Sorry for taking so long but I promise that I didn't gave up on the story, I was just with a writer's block, but I have tons of ideas now.
