Chapter sixty one
"There's only one way out."
Beatrix couldn't sleep that night, spending the hours staring up at the ceiling, she started to realize why certain creatures were nocturnal and other's chose to come out in the day, cause those who killed liked to spend their time in the shadows while those who held compassion and life chose to be out in the day, where as her thoughts continued to plague her, she decided to get out of bed and headed out of her room and downstairs, heading into the study, she grabbed a glass and a bottle, as she began pouring it "can't sleep." Connor said, as she spun around, not seeing him, she let out a breath "it's just my imagination." she told herself, turning around, she put the bottle down.
And grabbed her glass, going to drink it "you know, it makes sense. Being a descendant of the devil and all." Connor shared, as Beatrix raised her brows "your not real." she said, turning and walking off, and as she did, Connor followed her "and how do you know that I'm not here?" he asked her "well seeing as I killed you. You should either be in limbo or heaven or hell your choice. Not mine." Beatrix shared "was that the first time you've taken a human life?" Connor asked her "says the man who knocked Damon Salvatore on his ass, I'd say your far from human just like the rest of the people I've killed." Beatrix shared, as she began pacing and clicking her heels against the glass.
She didn't know that Stefan could hear her, all the way from upstairs as he got up, and began heading down stairs, Beatrix shook her head "you are a ghost. So if you don't mind can you go on your way." she told him, going to walk around him "can a ghost do this?" Connor asked, turning and wrapping his arm around her neck, Beatrix brought the glass up and smashed it over his head, as she then sped over to where she knew a stake would be and grabbed it, where when she turned around Connor was right there, as she stabbed him in the chest, she pulled it out, but when she did, she saw Stefan "oh my god!" she voiced, pulling it out.
Stefan fell to his knee's, as Beatrix was breathing heavy, she bit into her wrist and crouched down to him, feeding him her blood "I'm sorry, I'm sorry..I didn't know. I didn't know." she told him, as she looked past him, seeing Damon standing there with furrowed brows.
Sitting on the couch the next morning, Beatrix shook her head "if I was anywhere else, I could've actually killed someone." she shared, as Damon raised his brows "well if you had better aim, you might've killed Stefan." he shared, as Beatrix's eyes went wide "look, I know what it looks like but I..I wouldn't kill Stefan. No matter how angry I am." she shared "well you should talk to Stefan." Damon told her "no, no, no, he..he probably hates me! I hate me. I mean he lied to me but I wouldn't actual kill him, Damon. I could've killed him. Oh my god!" Beatrix voiced, looking at her hands that were stained red, she looked away "blood. I keep seeing blood. Why don't it go away?" she asked.
As Damon looked at her worried, he saw Stefan walking back in "I'm gonna go.." Damon said, as Beatrix looked up at him "no, Damon!" she voiced, as Stefan walked in front of her "no!' Beatrix voiced, standing up and walking away from him, heading back upstairs, Stefan turned following her "Beatrix?" he asked her "no, no, no.." Beatrix mumbled as she walked into her room, she went to shut the door, as Stefan stopped her, walking in and shutting the door behind them "listen, I know your still upset about yesterday and I get it, believe me, but just let me help you." he shared.
"No, no, what you need to do is leave me alone before I actually kill you." Beatrix told him, walking toward's her bathroom "but you'll let Damon near you?" Stefan asked her, as Beatrix turned to him "I didn't stab him, Stefan! And you..you know what Klaus did to me and I thought..I thought we were closer that you would've at least told me if you were gonna start working with him and not have me find out by you talking about his demon dogs." she shared "listen, it's not, what you think, okay?" Stefan asked her "really cause it's pretty clear from my side. So if you know what's best for you, you'll leave me alone." Beatrix told him, going to shut the door, but Stefan stopped her "please, just.." he told her.
"Don't!" Beatrix voiced, moving away from him, she looked at the blood on her hands "your..your blood is on my hands Stefan. I stabbed you. And it's making me sick just thinking about it. So please..just so what Klaus would do and go away." she told him, slamming the door shut and locking it, as she leaned against it, closing her eyes.
Showing again, Beatrix was trying to scrub Stefan's blood off of her hands but it couldn't come off, where soon blood even began dripping down her face, where when she looked up the water coming out was straight blood, she turned the shower off and turned grabbing a towel, she wrapped it around herself and as she did, she fell out of the shower and onto the floor, where when she looked around her it was blood red.
Meanwhile downstairs, Stefan was with Damon "where's Beatrix? Oh, wait, I heard the whole, why don't you just pull a Klaus and leave alone. And that one's gotta hurt you more than her stabbing you. I mean thankfully I hid all potential dangers to us." Damon shared, as Stefan's phone rang and he pulled it out, he took a deep breath "it's Klaus." he said "ooh. Time to face the music, pay the piper, dance with the devil." Damon shared "you know, I'm glad you find this amusing. If he find's out I told you about the cure, he'll kill both of us." Stefan shared "quit avoiding him. You're being shady. Shady people get outed." Damon shared.
As Stefan answered it "I don't want to talk about it." Stefan told him "well, I can't imagine why, what with you ruining all my plans for a hybrid filled future." Klaus told him "well, it wouldn't have happened if you hadn't sworn me to secrecy." Stefan shared "well, life's full of if's, Stefan. Let's extenuate the positive, shall we? The hunter was one of five. We'll find another. It may take centuries, but we've got nothing but time, right?" Klaus asked him "your using your calm voice today. Who's getting killed?" Stefan asked "not you, if that's what you're worried about. But I am concerned about our beloved fallen witch turned vampire. Have the hallucinations started yet?" Klaus asked him.
As Stefan and Damon furrowed their brows "what do you know about that?" Stefan asked him "I'll tell you. Where are you?" Klaus asked "I'm at home." Stefan told him "how convenient. So am I." Klaus told him, as the door opened, Stefan walked over to him as Damon walked off "it's bad enough you and I teamed up without me being able to tell her and you're here so what do you know?" Stefan asked him "I killed the original five hunters, remember? When one kills a hunter there's a bit of a consequence." Klaus shared, as Stefan furrowed his brows "what kind of consequence?" he asked "hunters were spelled by witches to kill vampires. If you prevent one from fulfilling his destiny. Then he'll take you down with him." Klaus shared.
"What do you mean? Connor's dead." Stefan shared "I mean, Connor's death won't prevent him from making Beatrix his final vampire kill. She'll need to come with me now. I'll lock her up. Keep her away from any sharp wooden objects." Klaus shared "your broke her heart. She's not gonna wanna go anywhere with you and even if she, I wouldn't let her." Stefan shared "and if we leave her alone she'll take her own life before the day is out." Klaus shared "she's stronger than that." Stefan told him "is she? Believe me, it's for her own good." Klaus told him, as Stefan scoffed.
Upstairs, Beatrix had gotten dressed, putting on a red dress and a headband, she thought it would maybe stop her from seeing red everywhere else, as she was putting on her boots, she missed Connor in the mirror, but when she looked up, he was standing there as she quickly stood up, he put his hand to his neck and walked toward's her "would you like some? You seem to enjoy it when you drank from me." he shared, as Beatrix took a deep breath "my emotions are heightened, anger is one of them. And you aren't real." she told him "emotions, yeah. It's not like your true heritage came through when you snapped my wrist and ripped my heart out, haven't you done that before?" Connor asked her.
And when he did, Beatrix thought back to Mason and how she ripped his heart out "it's like you said, your a monster and you deserve to die. Admit it." Connor told her "get out of my head!" Beatrix voiced, turning and running, grabbing her jacket, she threw it on, as she headed out the door and down the hallway, and as she did, Damon stopped her "whoa, whoa, what's wrong?" he asked her, as Beatrix looked at him, she didn't see Damon, but Connor "you can't rid of me." Connor told her, as Beatrix shoved Damon off of her and turned running down the stairs "what's wrong?" Damon asked, as he turned running after her "Beatrix!" he yelled, but one Beatrix made it downstairs, Klaus sped over to her and grabbed her and headed out the door, as Damon and Stefan looked to each other annoyed.
Having been dragged through a building, Beatrix had been trying to break free from Klaus's hold for hours now, as one of his hybrids finally soon stopped at a room, opening the door he walked in, stepping aside, as Klaus dragged Beatrix in "for the thousandth time. Get your hands off of me!" Beatrix voiced "certainly." Klaus told her, letting go of her, the door closed, and as Beatrix looked around, it was like some kind of dungeon except with furniture "I apologize for lack of windows, it's to preserve the art." Klaus shared, as Beatrix turned to him "and to stop me from taking off this?" she asked, holding her hand up "I mean that had to be the reason you threw me in a dungeon and took me away from the people who actually care about me. So how about you just do what you're good at and leave me alone. I'm not gonna try and kill myself." she shared, turning away from him.
"I did. Problem is I'm immortal." Klaus shared, as Beatrix scoffed, turning back to him "and what? I'm supposed to feel sorry for you? Feel like we're now connected again because I am now going through the same thing you did about what? A billion years ago? Excuse me if I don't want a play by play on you agony." she shared "oh you will, especially when it lasted for fifty two years nine months and nine days. I was tormented. In my dreams. My every waking moment. Relentless, never ending torture." Klaus shared "I did that remember? Your mom took my soul. It may have looked easy from your guys end but all those months that I was gone, it was torture. Drowning over and over no chance of getting out. The only difference here is that I hurt Stefan and none of this would've happened if you just stayed away." Beatrix shared.
"All he knew was that the hunter had to be kept alive." Klaus told her, as Beatrix chuckled "that's funny." she told him, as Klaus walked up to her "you should've listened when he said he had it covered, love." he shared "yes! Because him hiding from a hunter hell bent on shooting anyone and everyone! Is having it covered! But I guess someone as immortal as you wouldn't understand that because all you care about are your hybrids and yourself!" Beatrix voiced, and as she did, Klaus turned around walking out "see? Your walking away cause that's what you always do anytime things get to hard for you!" Beatrix yelled at him.
As Klaus stopped turning to her "the hallucinations tend to appear in strange forms." he told her, as he banged on the door, it opened, as Klaus smirked at her "don't say i didn't warn you." he told her, as he turned around walking out, the hybrid shut the door, Beatrix screamed, turning and walking over to the wall, pulling down the art.
Sitting on the floor with her head in her hands and her knee's pulled up to her chest, the room was practically destroyed as the hybrid walked in looking at the room in shock as he carried the bag over to the bed "clothes, toothbrush." he said tossing it down and looking to her "Klaus said you're gonna be here until he figures out where to put you." he shared, as Beatrix looked up at him "well you can tell him that he can go to hell!" she yelled, as the hybrid turned walking off and out of the room, and as he did, Beatrix put her head back down again, but as she did, she saw bloody footprints in front of her "that's where you want me to be, isn't it? I mean look at what you did to this place and I wasn't even around to see it. Everything's a constant reminded of what you truly are. You think he's the monster but truth is your just as bad as him.." Connor shared.
"Well clearly I am seeing as unlike him, I actually killed you." Beatrix told him "you don't care it all why he didn't want you too?" Connor asked her "not at all." Beatrix told him "well I guess that's a step in the wrong..or is it right direction? Seeing as everyone in your family has so much blood on your hands, it was finally your turn to slip up and kill someone just to kill them." Connor shared, as Beatrix looked up at him "well seems like you were just killing people just to kill them as well unless there's a secret that everyone knows that I don't. But seeing as I am who I am, I always find out eventually." she shared "will that be before or after you take your last miserable breath?" Connor asked her.
As Beatrix laughed "you think I'm gonna kill myself?" she asked "because you're a monster and you deserve to die." Connor told her, as Beatrix brought her hands up to her ears and put her head down again "you don't wanna listen to me? Fine." Connor said "then how about you and I have a little chat, little witch?" Esther asked, and when she did, Beatrix lifted her head up seeing her there "no, no, I..I killed you." she told her, as Esther smiled at her "well there is no real death for witches, we always come back someway shape of form." she shared, as Beatrix stood up "exactly. Exactly. Which just proves that you're not real and are a hallucination." she shared, walking away from her.
Esther turned to her "what would your grandmother and mother think of the new you? A real killer. You've become worse than any of my creations, your truly a monster." she shared, as Beatrix ran her hands through her hair "I'm a monster? I'm a monster?" she asked, turning to her "you tried to kill me! Tried to kill your own kids! Then you tried to kill me again and instead killed the only family I had!" she voiced "well no your a vampire, truly alone for all of eternity." Esther told her, as Beatrix closed her eyes, and when she did, her mind went right to Stefan, on how he turned her because he couldn't let her die, and how safe she felt with him, and when she opened her eyes, Esther was gone, as she let out a breath, her knees gave out on her as she fell to the floor.
Having been like that for awhile, Beatrix heard the door open "Beatrix." she heard Stefan's voice, as she shook her head "no, no, please, don't take him from me." Beatrix said, as she began playing with her daylight ring, not seeing Stefan walking over to her "I'm right here. It's me." he told her, crouching down in front of her, Beatrix looked up at him "no, no, you're..you're not here. Your gonna tell me how you hate me because I killed Lexi and that you don't want me around anymore." she shared, putting her hands up to his face, not knowing that she was actually touching him, as Stefan shook his head "no, no, no, I don't hate you. Beatrix, listen to me. I'm here. I'm right here." he shared, putting his hands on her face.
"I can't lose you, Stefan..so you have to let me go." Beatrix told him "what?" Stefan asked her, as Beatrix snapped his neck, she pulled her daylight ring off her finger and dropped it down next to him as she sped out of there.
Soon Stefan woke back up "Beatrix?" he asked, looking around the room, he didn't see her, but when he moved his hand, he felt something metal in his hand as he quickly sat up, looking at it, his eyes went wide realizing it was her daylight ring, as he pulled out his phone, it rang once and then it was answered "you can rest easy, brother. We figured out how to solve our little Beatrix problem." Damon shared, as Stefan began walking toward's the door "yeah, well..now we have a bigger one I lost her." he shared "what? Again?" Damon asked him "she's in bad shape. I tried to help her but she didn't think I was real and told me I needed to let her go and snapped my neck, leaving me with her daylight ring. I'm gonna find her, I know where she's going, I can get through to her. But you've gotta end this." Stefan shared, hanging up on him as he sped out of there.
Walking up a hill, Beatrix was recalling the last time she was there "no!" her mother screamed, pushing her out of the way and when she did, she caught on fire, and as she watched her, her grandmother then followed "we'll always be with you." she told her, vanishing, then she recalled all those images she saw in the book from Professor Shane and how she was sitting on the floor in the shower and lifted her head up "I'm a monster." she told Damon, as she recalled ripping Connor's heart out "are you ready to die yet? You know it's your only way out of this." Connor shared, walking beside her.
Beatrix held her hand up, showing him that she no longer had her daylight ring "going to the place where you were supposed to die, how poetic." Esther told her, walking on the other side of her, and as Beatrix stopped walking, she looked around her and was standing in the burned grass where she had lost her family, as she looked up at the sky, she knew all she had to do was wait for the sun to rise "it's okay, baby." her mother said as Beatrix turned to her right seeing her "mom?" she asked, as her mother stepped toward's her, putting her hands on the side of her face "I know what you're going through. And it's okay. This is where we all were supposed to die." she shared.
"You were ready to die, remember?" her grandmother asked, as Beatrix turned to her left, seeing her "and then at the school, that was supposed to be the end. And Stefan just got in the way." her grandmother shared "all you have to do is wait for the sun to come up and this will all be over." her mother told her, as Beatrix took a deep breath "because I'm a monster. And I deserve to die." she told them, as she stood there waiting, she soon saw the sun starting to come up, as she took her hood off of her, and took her jacket off, she threw it to the ground "I'm such a disappointment." she told herself "no you're not. Your everything we ever wanted you to be." her mother shared.
"But you died. And unlike how it's supposed to go, you were supposed to stay dead." her grandmother told her "Beatrix." Stefan said, and when he did, Beatrix turned around and looked at him "Stefan?" she asked, turning around, hr mother and grandmother weren't there anymore, as she turned back to him "I..I was supposed to die here." she told him, as Stefan shook his head "no. Your family saved you so you could live." he told her "this isn't living. I'm dead. And even..even when I was alive I would kill people and I never felt bad about it, I should..I should feel bad about it but I don't. And maybe it's because I gave in to the pain of it a long time ago, Stefan. I just stopped fighting unlike you." Beatrix shared.
"No, no, you didn't stop fighting, everyone you killed was for good reason, even Connor, he tried to kill Tyler, he tried to kill Damon, he tried to kill Jermey.." Stefan shared "and you! Klaus told me I should've listened to him when you told me to leave it alone but I..I knew you couldn't do it on your own Stefan but now your upset with me for what I did and I..I don't know what to do anymore." Beatrix shared, as Stefan stepped toward's her "I know. I know. Let me..let me help you." he told her, holding his hand out to her "the sun will be up soon. It's almost over." Connor told her, as Beatrix turned looking at him.
And as she did, Stefan watched the sun start to rise as he looked down at her "is he..is he talking to you right now? Connor?" he asked her, as Beatrix turned to him "it's..it's like when you were in my head and that version of me tried to tell you to give up on me but you didn't. You stayed. Beatrix, I'm not leaving you out here to die." Stefan shared, as he pulled her ring out of his pocket "so you're gonna take this and you're gonna come back with me." he told her, as Beatrix shook her head "I can't do that, Stefan. It's my choice." she told him, stepping away "it's almost time." Connor told her "I know...I know it's almost time! You don't have to keep telling me!" Beatrix voiced.
"Beatrix, it's all..it's all gonna go away! It's a witches curse, you know that, you just have to fight through it, your stronger then this, please, just take your ring!" Stefan voiced, as Beatrix shook her head "I..I want to Stefan. But I can't..I can't." she told him, as Stefan looked above her and at the sun coming above the tree's, and looked down at her "Beatrix." he told her, speeding toward's her, Beatrix sped away from him, as the two were standing on opposite sides, but then Beatrix felt this weight lifted off her shoulders, as she closed her eyes.
Stefan saw her hand start burning as he sped toward's her, he crashed into her, protecting her body with his as he put her ring on her finger, he moved a piece of hair out of her face "Beatrix?" he asked her, as Beatrix opened her eyes "you saved me." she told him, as Stefan nodded "I couldn't let you die." he told her, as the two stared into each other's eyes, feeling something different then they've ever felt when they've looked at each other, as the sun shined down on them.
