Chapter forty five
"Every time we say goodbye, I say hello again."
That night, Caroline knowing Beatrix was back in town had texted her and asked her to come with her, Bonnie, Tyler and Elena to do senior prank night, as the four of them were all placing down mouse traps in the classroom with the lights off, Caroline sighed "look, I know what happened last night but be weird for you but you have to understand he was hurting my dad." she shared, as Beatrix shook her head "I really don't wanna talk about it." she told her "well, I also think we should talk about how Elena might have feelings for Damon." Caroline told her, and when she did, Beatrix turned her to her "what?" she asked her.
"And I know..I know you just got back and I don't mean physically I mean also mentally and I don't wanna push you too far but I feel like as your friend I thought you should know." Caroline told her "thanks, Caroline. But according to the letter I got earlier, none of us will be seeing Damon ever again." Beatrix shared "what?" Caroline asked her, as the door opened, all their mousetraps activated, as the lights were turned on they all stood up to see Matt "oh, come on! Seriously? Do you know how long it took for us to set all this up?" Caroline asked him.
"Forgot about senior prank night, huh?" Tyler asked him "clearly." Matt told them "how could you forget? We've only been waiting for this since like freshman year." Caroline shared "yeah, Matt. If I'm doing this, you're doing this." Elena shared "I'm kind of surprised any of you are doing this." Matt shared "Caroline's making us." Bonnie shared "we're about to be seniors. These are the memories that'll stay with us forever, and if.." Caroline was sharing "and if we don't create these memories now then what's the point of it all?" Elena asked "go ahead and make fun. I don't care." Caroline shared.
As Beatrix put her arm around her "nobody's making fun Caroline. I mean if your that upset about your prank being ruined all I would have to do is.." she was saying, as she waved her hand and all the mousetraps were set back up "well, seeing as Beatrix fixed this for all of us. I can go break the ten other classrooms I have on my list." Tyler shared, grabbing his bag and walking out, Elena began following him "hey! Where are you going?" Bonnie asked her, as Elena turned to them "to superglue Alaric's desk shut. I'm making memories." she shared, turning and walking out, Caroline turned to Beatrix and kissed her on the cheek "I love you and I'm so glad your back!" she voiced, as Bonnie and Matt chuckled.
Bonnie and Matt had gone off on their own to prank the gym, and Caroline had gone off to find Tyler, which left Beatrix on her own, she was walking in the hallway, and as she came across the one where she ran into Bonnie and Elena, a flash came into her mind of that night, recalling how she threw Klaus who was in Alaric's body into the wall and then sent him flying into the trophy case, having told Bonnie and Elena to run although unlike now where she knew she did it to keep them alive, at the time, she didn't feel anything.
As she shook her head, she continued walking down that hallway and as she made it to the cafeteria that had bunch of plastic wrap around the tables, she closed her eyes and thought back to the moment where she stepped away from Bonnie, and took her out, claiming it was to stop her from dying but in reality, she didn't care at the time if she lived or died and didn't feel anything when her body fell to the ground like she should've or that she did it in front of Stefan and Elena, having shut them out of the cafeteria.
"Hey." Bonnie said, and as she did, Beatrix turned around, seeing Bonnie and Matt "we're gonna go throw some toilet paper in the gym, if you wanna come with us?" Matt asked her, and as he did, Bonnie looked to him and then back to her "come with us." she told her, as Beatrix shook her head "look, I..I think I'm moving too fast with all of this. I mean, this entire place is reminding me of what I did when I.." she shared, taking a deep breath "when you what?" Bonnie asked her with furrowed brows, as Beatrix shook her head "nothing I'm bringing the mood down like I always do, let's..let's do what Caroline said and have fun and throw toilet paper around the gym or whatever." she told them, forcing herself to laugh as she walked toward's them, the three of them began walking off.
The three of them had made it to the gym as they opened the doors "Beatrix, get them out of here!" Elena yelled, as Beatrix stopped in her tracks, she put her arms out in front of Bonnie and Matt, as Klaus stood there, along with Dana and her boyfriend behind them seeming to be compelled, Klaus then sped over to them and as he did, Beatrix spun Bonnie around keeping her behind her "ah, now I see it, the difference in your eyes this time when you have your soul versus the last time you were protecting your little witch friend there was nothing behind your eyes, no hope, no remorse, nothing." he shared, as Elena, Bonnie and Matt furrowed their brows.
"Beatrix, what..what's he talking about?" Elena asked her, as Klaus raised her brows "guess you didn't tell your friends about your summer vacation." he said, as he looked behind them and at Dana "ah, Dana, why don't you relax? You and Chad sit tight." he told her, as he then looked to Bonnie "I assume you're the reason Elena is still walking around alive?" he asked her "that's right, if you want to blame someone, blame me." Bonnie told him "oh, there's no need for blame, love. Just your witchy interference seems to have caused some undesirable side effects. And since you caused the problem. I'm gonna have you find the fix." Klaus shared.
As a blonde girl dragged Tyler in "ugh! Get off of me!" he voiced 'hush now." the blonde told him, as Klaus held his arm out "I'd like you all to meet my sister..Rebekah. Word of warning, she can be quite mean." he shared "don't be an ass." Rebekah told him, shoving Tyler toward's him, Klaus caught him "leave him alone." Elena told him "I'm gonna make this very simple." Klaus shared, as he walked past them all and turned facing them with Tyler, they all turned looking at him "every time I attempt to turn a werewolf into a vampire hybrid they die during the transition. It's quite horrible, actually." Klaus shared, biting into his wrist and feeding Tyler his blood.
As all of their eyes went wide "I need you to find a way to save my hybrids, Bonnie. And for Tyler's sake..you better hurry." Klaus told them, as he snapped Tyler's neck "ah!" Beatrix screamed, turning away from him and as she did, Matt put his arms around her, as he watched along with Bonnie and Elena as Tyler's body hit the floor, Klaus smirked.
They all were standing there like that for a while, as Klaus had walked away from them along with Rebekah "he killed him." Matt said as he ran his hand through Beatrix's hair "he's not dead. Klaus's blood will turn him into a vampire." Elena shared "and if Bonnie's successful he'll live through his transiton." Klaus shared as he and Rebekah walked back over to them, and as he did, Beatrix turned away from Matt "I already told you how to fix it! You didn't believe me, remember?" she asked him, as Bonnie put her hand on her shoulder "Beatrix it's okay." she told her "no, it's not, Bonnie!" Beatrix voiced, as Klaus grabbed her arm "which is why you little witch are gonna stay with me and Elena while Bonnie goes and fetches her grimoires and enchantments and what not." he told her.
As Beatrix turned and looked at him, pulling her arm out of his grasp, she looked to Bonnie with raised brows, as Bonnie turned walking out with Matt "so this is the latest doppelganger." Rebekah said as she looked Elena over "the original one was much prettier." she shared, as Beatrix furrowed her brows "that doesn't make any sense when they look the exact same." she shared, as Rebekah stepped toward's her, Klaus stepped in between them "enough, Rebekah. Take the wolf boy elsewhere, would you?" he asked her, Rebekah smirked as she turned walking over to Tyler and grabbing him by the arm as she dragged him off, Klaus turned to Beatrix, leaning down to her ear "just ignore her. Petty little thing." he told her, smiling as Beatrix looked to Elena who was watching them.
Where soon Beatrix and Elena were standing together , while Klaus sat on the bleachers"what was Klaus talking about when he said you didn't have your soul?" Elena asked her, as Beatrix shook her head "it's not a conversation I wanna have Elena." she told her, as Elena sighed "Beatrix, whatever happened you can talk to me." she told her, as the sound of a door opening filled their ears, they all turned seeing Stefan walking in "Stefan." Elena said, but Stefan didn't even look to them "Klaus." he said, looking only at him "come to save your damsel, mate?" Klaus asked him "I came to ask for your forgiveness. And pledge my loyalty." Stefan told him.
"Well, you broke that pledge once already." Klaus shared "Elena means nothing to me anymore." Stefan shared, walking closer to him "and whatever you ask of me..I will do." he told him "fair enough." Klaus told him, as he stood up, walking over to them "let's drink on it. Kill them." he said pointing in their direction, Beatrix raised her brows, as she looked between her and Elena, Dana and her boyfriend stood up, as Elena and Beatrix turned to them, Klaus looked back at Stefan "what are you waiting for? Kill them." he told him, as Elena turned to him "no! Stefan, don't. He's not gonna hurt me. He already said." she was saying, as Klaus shoved Beatrix out of the way, she fell to the floor as he then smacked Elena in the face, as she screamed, landing on the gym floor as well.
Stefan then sped toward's Klaus, as the two showed each other their vampire face, they shoved their hands off of each other, but Klaus won as he grabbed Stefan by the throat "she means nothing to you? Your lies keep piling up." he told him "let them go! I'll do whatever you want, you have my word!" Stefan voiced "your word doesn't mean much. I lived by your word all summer during which time I never had to resort to this. Stop fighting." Klaus compelled him, as Beatrix's eyes went wide "don't do this. Don't do this." she told him, and when she did, Stefan looked to her and recalled that night, the two were captured and the tomb vampires forced him to drink her blood and she said the same thing.
As Klaus turned to her "I don't want to. All I wanted was his allegiance. Now I'm gonna have to take it." he told her "she's right, don't, don't." Stefan told him, as Klaus turned back to him "you will do exactly as I say, when I say it. You will not run, you will not hide, you will simply just obey." he compelled him, to where when he let go of his neck, all free will that Stefan had disappeared "no." Elena said "Stefan?" Beatrix asked him, wary of what could happen as he turned and looked at her "now kill them..ripper." Klaus told him, as he turned holding his hand out to Dana and her boyfriend, Stefan looked to them and when he did, he showed them his vampire face as he ran toward's them, biting into Dana's neck, she screamed, as Beatrix covered her ears, Elena moved away, as Dana's dead body dropped by Beatrix's feet, she screamed, quickly moving away, as Elena gasped.
And then Stefan was still feeding on the boyfriend, and the sound of it, made Beatrix cover her ears as she kept her head, Elena watched him, as Klaus crouched down to them "always nice to see a vampire in his true element. The species has become such a broody lot." he shared "no, You did this to him. And look at what you're doing to her? Beatrix has never reacted like this your pushing them both to their breaking point." Elena shared "I invited him to the party, love. He's the one dancing on the table. And for Beatrix.." Klaus said, as he moved a piece of hair from her face "it's all those pesky emotions flooding back in." he shared, standing up.
Elena did the same, while Beatrix sat on the floor, the door opened behind them "where is it? Where's my necklace?" Rebekah asked, as they all turned to her "what are you talking about?" Klaus asked her "she has my necklace. Look." Rebekah told him, handing the phone to Klaus, he zoomed in on something as he looked up "well, well. More lies." he said to Stefan "where is it?" Rebekah asked "I don't have it anymore." Elena told her "your lying!" Rebekah voiced, speeding toward's her "Elena!" Beatrix voiced, standing up, she pushed her out of the way, as Rebekah bit her in the neck, she screamed, as both Stefan and Klaus lunged forward.
Klaus pulled her off of her, as Beatrix fell to the floor next to Elena "Beatrix!" she voiced "I'm fine. I'm fine." Beatrix told her, as she turned looking at Stefan "knock it off!" Klaus yelled at Rebekah "make her tell me where it is, Nik!" Rebekah voiced, as Klaus turned around, he crouched down to the two of them "where's the necklace, sweetheart? Be honest." he told Elena "I'm telling the truth. Katherine stool it." Elena told him "great, probably went running off with Damon. Never to be seen again." Beatrix said, as Klaus looked to her "Katerina. Of course. Well, that's unfortunate." he shared, as he stood up.
"If we had the necklace it would make things a whole lot easier for the Bennett witch but since we're doing this the hard way let's put a clock on it, shall we?" Klaus asked, walking off, he pressed a button as twenty minutes came up on the board, as it buzzed "twenty minutes. If Bonnie hasn't found a solution by then" Klaus shared as he walked back "I want you to feed again, only this time I want you to feed on Elena. You know you want to." he told him, as he turned looking at her and Beatrix, he smirked "Klaus he'll kill her and you will never get what you want!" Beatrix voiced.
"No one leaves. If she tries to help her, fracture her spine." Klaus shared, as Beatrix turned to him "you compelled him to listen! He'll kill me, Klaus!" she voiced, but Klaus didn't listen as him and Rebekah walked out, Beatrix winced as she brought her hand up to her neck, she looked to Elena and then to Stefan.
Standing up, Beatrix was pacing and so was Stefan as the clock kept ticking down, where there was six minutes and counting, while Elena stood and watched them "Caroline's dad! Stefan, he was able to resist compulsion. I don't how, but he did it. Maybe it's possible." she shared "yeah, yeah. Maybe it's just mind control, right? Maybe it just takes some focus, a couple decades of training. No big deal." Stefan shared "Stefan, you can control this. When that buzzer goes off just..just drink from me." Elena told him, as Beatrix turned to her "Elena, no." she told her "Beatrix, if you interfere, he'll kill you." Elena shared.
"And if I don't, he'll kill you." Beatrix told her "she's right, I can't stop, Elena! I'm a ripper! A ripper doesn't stop! I listen to the words that are coming out of both your mouthes and all I hear is the sound of your hearts pumping blood through your body. And when that clock ticks down..I'm going to maybe have to break Beatrix's spine but either way I'm feeding on you. You wanna know what's worse? I'm not gonna be able to stop." Stefan shared, and as he did, Elena looked to Beatrix "when..when you and Stefan were captured, he told you to run after he drank your blood, but he didn't kill you!" she voiced.
As Beatrix huffed, running her hands through her hair "that was because Fredrick was trying to kill me Elena, there were other.." she said, as she stopped pacing, and her eyes went wide "oh my god." she said "what, Beatrix?" Elena asked her, as Beatrix looked to Stefan and then up at the clock "Beatrix, whatever your thinking, don't. Please." Stefan told her, as Beatrix looked at the clock that read four minutes and counting.
Then soon there was only sixteen seconds left, as Beatrix turned to Elena "it's time." she told her, as Elena shook her head "time for what? Beatrix, what..what are you doing?" she asked her, as Beatrix stepped toward's her, she put her hands on her shoulders, staring into her eyes "when that buzzer goes off.." she was saying, as Elena shook her head "no, no, Beatrix, don't do this.." she told her, and when she did, Beatrix recalled Elena saying that to her during the sacrifice "when that buzzer goes off, no matter what you hear, no matter what happens, your gonna run like hell. And your not gonna argue with me about it, you're just gonna accept it." she told her, using her mind magic on her.
And as Beatrix stepped away from her, Elena stayed there not saying anything "Beatrix.." Stefan told her, as Beatrix turned to him "but Klaus said if she ran.." Stefan told her "I know." Beatrix told him, bringing her hands up "imunto pupulus." she said, and as she did, Stefan furrowed his brows, as Beatrix brought her hand up to her mouth and as she did, Stefan did the same thing as his eyes went wide, the two then looked to the clock as it buzzed, Elena turned running out of there, and as she did, Beatrix brought her hand down from her mouth, as Stefan began breathing again, he groaned, feeling Klaus's compulsion trying to break through "Beatrix..why." he told her.
"Because I wouldn't go down without a fight this time." Beatrix told him "his compulsions to strong." Stefan told her, as he sped toward's her, Beatrix lunged at him, the two fell to the floor, and when Stefan smelled the blood from her neck, he showed her his vampire face "see? You wanting to feed me is a step up from snapping my spine." Beatrix told him, catching her breath, she pushed him off of her and as she did, so did Stefan, as the two stood up, Beatrix began walking backwards, keeping her eyes on him and as she did, Stefan began walking backwards as well, as the two opened the gym doors.
Beatrix turned around, seeing Elena still running, she looked to the lockers and ran herself into the one's on the left as did Stefan "your only hurting yourself!" Stefan groaned, as Beatrix pushed off of those lockers and fell into the other one's Stefan went with her, and as he broke free again, he lunged at her, as Beatrix grabbed him and threw them into another set of lockers, he looked at her neck again, Beatrix pushed off of him and began walking toward's the door and as she did, Stefan followed her.
Where she had walked them all the way into the school cafeteria and as she pushed open the doors, she found the mop "Beatrix, Beatrix, no! Drop the spell and I'll do it myself!" Stefan voiced, as Beatrix held her hand out, the mop came flying into it as she hit it against the table it broke in half, as she held it toward's her, Stefan tried to speed toward's her, but couldn't, as the door behind them opened, Klaus walked in with Elena, just as Beatrix stabbed herself in the stomach "Beatrix, no!" Elena yelled, as Beatrix fell to the floor, so did Stefan feeling her pain "now this is fascinating. I've never seen this before. A witch giving her life so a vampire won't feed on the girl he loves." Klaus shared.
As Stefan looked to him, shaking his head "don't let her die. You were there when we saved her. Don't let her die again." he shared "why don't you turn it off?" Klaus asked him "no!" Stefan voiced, starting to feel tired, he looked to Beatrix who was bleeding out "come on. Your humanity is killing you! And clearly so is Beatrix's or else she could've just stayed there and done nothing but no, she chose to fight for you. All the guilt must be exhausting. Turn it off." Klaus shared, as he sat on the lunch table next to Beatrix "no!" Stefan voiced, looking to him.
"Stefan.." Elena told him "you're strong." Klaus told him, as he stood up, crouching down to Beatrix "but you're not that strong." he told him, pulling the make shift stake out of her, he tossed it to the floor "now she's dying. Where the pain you feel will pass once she dies, but you'll still feel the guilt knowing her dying was not Damon's fault this time but yours. Turn..it..off." Klaus told him, as Stefan looked to Beatrix who was still holding on, he stood up, feeling Beatrix's spell wavering "no!" he yelled at him, shoving him back, and when he did, Klaus sped toward's him and slammed him against the wall "turn it off!" he compelled him.
As Elena ran toward's Beatrix, putting her hands on her chest "Beatrix, Beatrix. Hey! Hey look at me! Look at me!" she voiced, as she looked to Klaus "what did you do?" she asked him "I fixed him. But I think a test is in order, don't you?" Klaus asked, as he walked toward's her, he pulled Elena off of Beatrix "no, no! She needs help!" Elena voiced "ripper..perhaps you'd like a drink.." Klaus told him, moving Elena's hair out of the way "from the doppelgangers neck." he told him, and when Stefan looked to her, Klaus stepped away from her, and crouched down to Beatrix who's eyes were closing, as he held her up "I got you, love." he told her, biting into his wrist, he began feeding her his blood, while Stefan bit into Elena's neck "now don't you go turning vampire on me or we'll have real problems." Klaus told her, as Beatrix drink his blood.
Klaus was then walking through the hallway to where his sister had taken Tyler as he walked into a science classroom "well, the verdict is in. The original witch says the doppelganger should be dead." he shared, as Rebekah stood up from sitting on the desk "does that mean we can kill her?" she asked "no, and I've been stubborn long enough seeing as a little witch who helped me break it had told me that information and I chose to ignore it over and over even when my own hybrids were dying, but now I've decided to believe her." he shared, as Caroline's eyes went wide "Beatrix?" she asked, as Rebekah pulled her back.
Klaus held a vial out to Tyler "Elena's blood. Drink it." he told him "no! No, no, no, Tyler, don't!" Caroline voiced "if he doesn't feed, he'll die anyway, love. Consider this an experiment." Klaus told her, as Tyler groaned "It's okay." Klaus told him, as Tyler took the vial "there we go." Klaus told him, as Tyler downed it "good boy." Klaus told him, as Tyler began grunting, he fell over "Tyler? No!" Caroline voiced, as Tyler groaned, Klaus watched him "no!" Caroline voiced "try watching a girl get her soul back it's much more excruciating! Hearing her cry out for help and you run to help her but then you end up in some maze created by a witch. Just ask your friend Beatrix." Klaus shared.
Caroline furrowed her brows "what?" she asked him, but Klaus didn't elaborate, as he walked over to Tyler, Tyler screamed as he fell to the floor, Klaus crouched down to him, where when Tyler lifted his head up, he was a hybrid, showing his eyes and fangs "now that's a good sign." Klaus said, as he nodded.
Beatrix was asleep in the hospital, where all the doctors were compelled to know was that she had fallen down the stairs, seeing as her stab wound was healed along with her neck bite, they were keeping her over night for observation incase any injuries appeared or at least that's what they were told, as the machine next to her beeped.
Damon walked into the hospital and at first he was going to get Elena, but when he walked past a room and had seen a flicker of red hair, he furrowed his brows, as he back tracked his steps and looked, seeing that it indeed was Beatrix, and he knew with the amount of bad decisions today, getting her out of here after scaring off Klaus, might be the least he can do after breaking her heart again.
As he walked inside, he leaned over her and pulled the IV out of her arm, and as he did, Beatrix opened her eyes and looked at him "Damon?" she asked, not sure if it was the hybrid blood running through her system that was making her hallucinate cause he was supposed to be long gone with Katherine of all people "hey." Damon told her, removing the covers off of her, and when he did, he saw the blood stain where unknowing to him she had stabbed herself trying to save Stefan, his face face fell, realizing how bad thing's had gotten because he left, he picked her up in his arms and began walking out.
Making it to her house, the door on her balcony was still open as he walked inside, over to her canopy bed, he ducked underneath the curtain and laid her down and as he did, he moved his hand through her hair "I shouldn't have left." he told her, leaning down and kissing her on the forehead "I promise you..I will never leave you again." he told her "well, isn't this cozy?" Stefan asked, as Damon spun around, seeing Stefan standing on her balcony, he never felt more relief that Beatrix had kicked him out so he couldn't come in "what are you doing here, brother?" he asked.
As Stefan stepped forward "I just wanted to see how thing's we're going." he shared, walking inside her room and as he did, Damon's eyes went wide "oh yeah! Uh..her no longer having her soul gave me the ability to come back in." Stefan shared, smiling, he raised his brows "Klaus is gone, but he's asked me to keep watch on Elena and look after Beatrix till he returns. From now on, they're under my protection." he shared, looking around "this room looks different, doesn't smell like Elijah anymore. But I guess she's into Klaus now or is he more into her? Cause I saw him feeding her his blood, but in all honesty, I don't care." he shared.
And as he did, Damon began to feel how Stefan did all those months ago when he was invited into Elena's house when he didn't want him to be "she's not gonna want you here." he told him with furrowed brows, as Stefan huffed, picking up the letter off the floor, and un crumpled it, as he raised his brows "well from this, it seems like she's not gonna want you here either and seeing as I'm supposed to look after her, I'm gonna suggest you get out." he shared, looking to him, Damon sped toward's him, and as he did, Stefan swapped places with him as he now stood next to Beatrix.
Damon raised his brows "relax, Damon, I'm not gonna hurt her!" Stefan voiced, holding his hands up "but see? This is where those pesky feelings get in the way cause I can see your jealous, but let's recall something..she kissed me first." he told him, smirking, Damon stared him down.
