: I OPENED A CLINIC IN THE APOCALYPSE

• • •
Xiao Hen drove steadily and quickly arrived at Rong City.

Just after exiting the highway, they were blocked by an abandoned vehicle in front of them.

Xiao Hen had to stop the car and said, “This scene looks familiar.”

Wen Qingling leaned against his seat and said, “My zombie little brother won’t interfere here.”

Wen Qingling lifted his chin and said, “Get ready to pay the toll.”

Xiao Hen replied, “If you want food, I can provide it, but if you want crystal nuclei, I really don’t have any left.”

After the apocalypse, Xiao Hen frequently went out on missions and collected a lot of crystal nuclei. Besides using them for himself, he also gave many to Wen Qingling. His small treasury was nearly empty.

Soon after, Xiao Hen saw a few men walking out of the grass by the side of the road. They were carrying weapons, including knives, wooden clubs, and sticks. They appeared to be in difficult conditions.

They stood behind the abandoned vehicle, with one of them carrying a wooden club that was already aimed at Xiao Hen.

Judging from their attire and the way they held their wooden clubs, they were probably ordinary civilians and not scattered soldiers.

They shouted loudly, “Listen up, people in the car! If you want to enter Rong City, you must leave behind money, food, or crystal nuclei!”

Without hesitation, Xiao Hen took out a box of instant noodles from the space and threw it to them.

Xiao Hen said, “Get out of the way!”

The group of people’s eyes turned green when they saw the complete box of instant noodles.

In this era, it’s already extremely difficult to have enough food to eat. Who would still care whether it’s expired or not?

Someone immediately ran over and hugged the instant noodles, opened them up, and checked. Sure enough, it was a whole box, with not a single packet missing.

Several people exchanged a glance and all saw greed in each other’s eyes.

Wen Qingling said, “Kill them, they want to rob you.”

Xiao Hen turned his head to look at him, “Do you want to push the car down by yourself?”

Wen Qingling looked at him strangely, “Is there still something I need to personally handle?”

Xiao Hen was shocked, “You better not summon your zombie minions.”

He didn’t have any zombie minions, but he did have a bunch of thick and wild vines that could pierce through even hard cement and asphalt roads, throwing cars that blocked the way into the ditches on either side. The few people were scared out of their wits and ran away with their heads in their hands, not daring to have any other thoughts.

Wen Qingling raised an eyebrow at Xiao Hen.

Xiao Hen gave him a thumbs up, besides admiring him, what else could he say?

The off-road vehicle drove towards Rong City, the road was empty, with no survivors or zombies.

Of course, this was in Xiao Hen’s eyes. In Wen Qingling’s spiritual world, it was a completely different story.

Wen Qingling suddenly said, “I suspect you’re setting me up.” Xiao Hen turned his head to look at him, “I can refuse your accusation.”

Wen Qingling said, “Do you want to explain that this is the unique perspective of a soldier?”

Xiao Hen looked at him with one eye, then two, and then understood, “Ji Rong and the others are here?”

Wen Qingling said, “Not only him.”

Xiao Hen understood, “We’ve been to Rong City before, initially to stop Fang Shenlong’s ‘Beheading Plan’. I thought of using an armed helicopter, but after coming here, I realized that it was too difficult to get one, so we had to go back.”

It is indeed too difficult with only human power. The Air Force training base is now the stronghold of the zombies, with a considerable number of zombie soldiers, but most of them are ordinary people in Rong City who have turned into zombies. Although Rong City’s population is not as large as Ling City, it still exceeds one million.

At the beginning of the zombie virus outbreak, half of the world’s 6 billion population turned into zombies, leaving the remaining small half of survivors struggling to survive in a world filled with zombies, mutations, and plants.

Wen Qingling asked, “Do they have the same idea?”

Xiao Hen replied, “Possibly, Yin Cheng might also have armed helicopters.”

With Yin Cheng’s strong-willed personality, he would never be content to flee and would certainly return to Ling City. The fact that Rong City was an Air Force training base was not a secret, and he must know about it. Even if Ji Rong and the others explained the situation to him, he would not believe it unless he saw it with his own eyes.

Therefore, encountering them here, Xiao Hen was not surprised at all.

Wen Qingling had already observed the entire Rong City. Yin Cheng’s subordinates also had psychics, and they sensed the probe of unfamiliar psychic powers and reported it to Yin Cheng.

The survivors in Rong City had established their own base, and they barely survived by relying on the supplies in Rong City. However, Yin Cheng and his group suddenly arrived, completely disrupting the lives of the survivors in Rong City.

The leader of the Rong City base was very wary of them, but due to their weapons and identity, they dared not resist and could only swallow their anger, hoping that they would leave soon.

The Rong City base was built in a must-pass location to enter Rong City, and Xiao Hen and Wen Qingling had to pass through the Rong City base if they wanted to enter the city.

They saw a group of people wearing camouflage uniforms with weapons in their arms guarding the roadside from a distance, clearly Yin Cheng’s men.

There was a roadblock ahead, so Xiao Hen stopped the car. He looked at Wen Qingling, but he closed his eyes and didn’t seem to want to get off the car.

Xiao Hen undid his seatbelt. “I’ll be back soon.”

Xiao Hen got off the car, and the soldiers who came to greet him saluted him and addressed him as “Colonel Xiao.”

Xiao Hen asked, “Where is Colonel Yin?”

The soldier replied, “Colonel Yin is in the base.”

The Rong City base was not large in scale, let alone compared to Ling City or Wen Qingling’s civilization base. There shouldn’t be too many survivors, but there were likely Earth-type ability users remaining here.

Ji Rong, He Lin, and Shi Chong walked out quickly and were very happy to see Xiao Hen.

Ji Rong smiled and said, “I told you, our boss is tough, even the tide of corpses can’t stop him.”

Xiao Hen asked, “Is Meng Lao okay?”

Ji Rong replied, “Meng Lao is fine, but we are not doing so well.”

Ji Rong gave Xiao Hen a knowing look. They were Xiao Hen’s people, but they were working with Yin Cheng’s group, and that couldn’t lead to anything good.

Ji Rong briefly recounted their experiences over the past few days.

They fled from Ling City and after traveling for a hundred miles, the zombies did not pursue them any further. They stopped to discuss their next move, and Yin Cheng suggested going to Rong City to obtain an armed helicopter and return to Ling City to fight back.

Ji Rong and the other two strongly advised against this, explaining the situation in Rong City. With so few people, they would not be able to obtain a helicopter. But Yin Cheng didn’t believe them, so he took a detour from the south to the west and arrived in Rong City.

Once they arrived in Rong City, they stayed at the Rong City base. The base leader dared not say anything and could only agree to let them stay temporarily.

Ji Rong was angry and said, “That bastard Yin Cheng used the fact that we had come to this area to make us take the lead and investigate the air force training base. When we refused, he attacked us. If it weren’t for Meng Lao, we would have definitely fought back.”

Xiao Hen’s face darkened. “Doesn’t he have psychic ability users in his group?”

He Lin said, “Lin Shang claims his strength is limited and he couldn’t investigate clearly, but he knows there are zombies there and someone needs to go investigate.”

Ji Rong cursed, “Fuck investigating! He’s intentionally trying to get us killed! That son of a bitch is not a good person!”

“A willingness to sacrifice oneself for the greater good and for the greater cause, and you don’t even have that. What kind of soldier are you?” A voice came from behind, and it was Lin Shang, one of Yin Cheng’s subordinates.

“My willingness to sacrifice myself is not meant for the likes of you idiots!” Ji Rong cursed. He had been holding back for the past few days and was now fed up.

Lin Shang sneered, “As expected, you can see a person’s character from the strength of their convictions. Even when I call you a dog, you still don’t believe it!”

“Fuck you! Your whole family is dogs!” Ji Rong had reached his limit and threw a fireball at Lin Shang.

Lin Shang was a psychic ability user with keen perception but not strong combat ability. He quickly retreated and a water shield suddenly appeared in front of him. With a hiss, a mist of steam rose up.

After the steam cleared, Yin Cheng and his team walked out.

Yin Cheng smirked without smiling, “What’s the meaning of this? You just came back and you’re already starting a fight. Do you really not care about me?”

Yin Cheng stopped in front of Xiao Hen and stared at him, saying, “If you want to fight, find a combat-type ability user. Don’t bully those who use psychic powers. Even if you win, it doesn’t count as a real victory.”

Xiao Hen glared at him, “You never change, always willing to do whatever it takes to achieve your goals.”

Yin Cheng chuckled, “Well, we’re all just looking out for ourselves, aren’t we?”

Yin Cheng looked over at Xiao Hen’s off-road vehicle and asked, “I heard you brought friends back. Where are they? Why don’t you introduce them?”

Xiao Hen didn’t move, and Ji Rong looked over at the off-road vehicle, noticing that Wen Qingling was sitting in the passenger seat.

Ji Rong: “????!!”

Holy cow! The boss is amazing! He actually managed to kidnap City Lord Wen out here!

Ji Rong had more knowledge about Wen Qingling than He Lin and Shi Chong, so he both respected and feared him. At this moment, Ji Rong wished that Yin Cheng would do something even more reckless and get Wen Qingling to personally deal with him, just to see how he would handle it.

He Lin and Shi Chong had heard of Wen Qingling’s strength and were shocked to see him return with Xiao Hen. They all looked at Xiao Hen, waiting for an explanation.

This was too scary, to silently kidnap the leader of the South City like this. Would the zombie gang from the South City come after them?

Yin Cheng saw that Xiao Hen wasn’t responding to him and lightly chuckled, “Could this be the famous Doctor Wen from Southern City?”

Lin Shang had told him that a psychic ability user had come to explore Rong City, and since only two people had come, and Xiao Hen wasn’t a psychic ability user, the other person could only be Doctor Wen from South City. That was why Yin Cheng asked this question.

Yin Cheng shouted loudly, “Friends on the train, we’ve arrived at the station. Why don’t we get off and chat?”

Suddenly, there were heart-wrenching screams, as well as cries for help coming from within the city.

Wen Qingling got off the car and, in front of everyone, jumped several times and disappeared into the buildings of the city, a hundred meters away.

Xiao Hen immediately used his space-type ability to chase after him, while He Lin spread his wings and took to the sky to follow urgently.

Ji Rong cursed under his breath and he and Shi Chong immediately followed.

Yin Cheng and everyone else was completely confused.

Was that still a human being? Even a rabbit couldn’t jump like that, and he disappeared in a flash.

When they realized what was happening, Yin Cheng shouted, “What are you all standing around for? Why aren’t you going after them?!”

Yin Cheng led his team to chase after them, while the others stayed behind to protect Mr. Meng and his assistant.
