[The episode opens up with a Monstrous Nightmare flying over Dragon Isles. It lands on top of a house. The house breaks and the Nightmare falls.]
The dragon winced, that had to hurt.
Hiccup(v.o.): Living with dragons has its ups... and its downs. You need to stay calm. Keep a clear head. Not always easy with Vikings.
[Scene changes to show Hiccup drawing sketches of dragon perches, with Schmidt watching over his shoulder.]
Hiccup: More supports?
Schmidt: Eh, well, they are dragons.
Hiccup (v.o.): In our own way, we're very reasonable.
"It seems like forever since I thought otherwise" Hiccup said with a wistful smile. He glanced over to where Berk was sitting. Although he had his doubts about the village he could see a change in a few of them especially Gobber.
[Scene cuts to Drekians building the dragon perches. Stormfly hovers over one to test it out, and hesitates.]
"How many fails did it take to make dragon's afraid?" Astrid asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Many fails. But it worked out in the end....for the most part" Hiccup says changing his answer at the last minute at the incredulous stares he got from the villagers. Perhaps the only good thing that came out of those supports was to prove Thor wasn't mad at Toothless.
Noell: It's okay, girl. Just take it easy.
[Stormfly lands on it. And it supports her weight.]
Hiccup: Yes! It works!
Schmidt: Way to go!
Snotlout: Whoo-hoo-hoo-hoo!
Tuffnut: So we built these things so stuff wouldn't break?
"Boring" The twins sung.
Ruffnut: I don't understand you people.
Tuffnut: And they tricked us into helping them build them. I feel so used... and sweaty.
"I'd rather you two help than destroy" Axel said at the same time Hiccup exclaimed "How did we trick you?!"
[The scene changes to night, and shows Hiccup, Axel, and Schmidt at a table in Hiccup's house.]
Hiccup (v.o.): But when a problem is caused by something Vikings don't understand, they lose all sense of reason. And that can become very dangerous.
"Give me one good reason that supports his claim" Stoick said staring at his son.
"Dragon, lightning, dragon raids" Hiccup listed counting each one off with his fingers rolling his eyes. "When you people don't understand something you get violent"
"Lad, I believe Stoick asked for one reason" Gobber said with a hint of a smile. He figured if he wanted to get close to Hiccup he must accept that the boy no longer considers Stoick as his father and that he has a new one.
"We understand dragon raids and dragons. They at vicious beast that destroy, raid, and kill us for no reason" Stoick defended
Hiccup opened his mouth to exclaim that they know nothing about anything. They didn't know anything about the queen, the nest, or that raiding is not a dragon's normal nature. The only thing that stopped him was Noell's hand on his shoulder as she shook her head saying that now was not the time.
Axel: Perches for dragons! Some of your best work, men. Although we may need to move the one over the well.
Hiccup: And the perches are just the beginning, we can build landing areas for them, maybe even stables in the caves underneath the village and-
Axel: Easy son, remember Dragon Isles is still for people.
Schmidt: Vikings before dragons. [Thunder crashes, and Toothless flinches.] Yeah, I said it. Deal with it.
[Everyone rushes outside.]
Hiccup: The lightning is hitting everywhere.
Axel: It usually doesn't strike here in the village.
"Thor is angry with you for siding with dragons" Stoick pointed out loudly.
"He is not, and before you say otherwise this magical object will prove it to you" Axel says glaring at the chief of Berk.
Schmidt: Thor must be angry. The only other time I can remember lighting ever striking Dragon Isles--
Schmidt and Axel: Barnstat.
Hiccup: Barn-who?
Axel: Jürgen Barnstat, drifter, sailed into town. He was stealing from widows and old men.
Schmidt: To punish him, Thor gave him a lightning bolt right to his helmet when he was fixing the mast on his ship to make his escape.
Axel: By the time Thor was finished with him, our whole fleet was on fire!
"I'm pretty sure that had more to do with the fact he was wearing a metal helmet and was high in the air" Hiccup said rolling his eyes.
Schmidt: We shipped him off the island and Thor hasn't hit the village since.
Hiccup: Threw him off the island? Pretty harsh.
"Ah, back then it was what we thought was best"
[Lightning strikes a house, and men shout.]
Axel: Schmidt.
[They run into the middle of the village. Several other houses catch on fire, and a Terrible Terror runs in fear, but is trapped. Noell swoops by on Stormfly and rescues it.]
Axel: Schmidt, organize a bucket brigade. I'm going up to Great Hall.
[Lightning strikes near Toothless, and he roars and runs away.]
Hiccup: Toothless!
[The people of Berk get to work putting out the fires.]
Hiccup: I gotta find Toothless.
Tuffnut: Yeah, now that's what I'm talking about!
Ruffnut: I've always liked Thor.
"I thought you liked Loki" The twins mother asked her kids.
"We like both. Both cause destruction and destruction is gloriously beautiful" Tuffnut exclaimed with a happy glint in his eye. His sister nodded along with him eagerly.
Snotlout: Oh, I love these storms! When it rains, I cancel bath night and just stand outside with nothing but a sponge and a bar of soap.
Astrid and Noell shakes in disgust .
"I witnessed it one time and ever since the I don't come out in a rainstorm unless my house is going to burn down" Noell said shaking in disgust as the image from years ago popped up in her mind.
Astrid gave her sister a pitying look feeling sorry she was stuck with that image for the rest of her life. She couldn't imagine.
Fishlegs: We know. The village has had meetings about it.
"You've had meetings about me?"
"That's not a good thing Snotlout"
Hiccup: I-I need your help. I need to find Toothless!
Noell: I just saw him by the Great Hall. [Noell helps him onto Stormfly.]
[Scene cuts to the villagers making their way to the Great Hall.]
Axel: Don't worry, men. You're gonna be alright.
Mulch: It's striking throughout the entire village. It's like we're under siege!
Bucket: I've never seen Thor this angry!
[Stormfly lands near the Great Hall, Toothless is sitting on one of the metal perches.]
Hiccup: Toothless!
[Lightning strikes Toothless' perch and he leaps to another one.]
Mildew: Did you all see that?
Mulch: Look! The lightning is following him!
[Toothless runs to Hiccup.]
Hiccup: Toothless!
Mildew: Don't you all understand? Thor is mad at all of us! And I'll tell you why. Because of him! As you all know, the Night Fury is the unholy offspring of lightning and death itself! We've let him live among us and now we will all pay the price!
"If Thor was mad at dragons living among them then he would target all dragons not just Toothless. Something is off here" Astrid says curiously causing many people to look at her in shock.
"Huh, she's smarter than she looks" Hiccup says quietly. Noell punches him in the arm, she may not be close to Astrid anymore but she's still her sister.
Mulch: Well, it did seem as though the lighting struck right at the dragon.
Mildew: Yes! Right at the dragon! And a lighting storm the likes of which we've never had! There is but one thing for us to do: banish the Night Fury! It's the only way!
Mildew: Thor is angry at us because of the Night Fury. You all saw it!
[The Vikings murmer among themselves.]
Hiccup: What?! No! This is ridiculous!
"It really does sound ridiculous looking back on it" Helga said pondering.
"Why did we listen to that old geezer?" Gust asked
Mildew: If we don't act now, well, need I remind you of... Barnstat!
[Vikings gasp.]
Axel: You're right, all of you! Thor is angry, but I don't believe he's angry at Toothless.
Hiccup: That's right! Have you all forgotten what Toothless has done for this village?!
Mildew: Well, then who do you suppose he's angry at?
"How about you? After seeing all you've done so far and I'm sure there's more I can would be angry too" Sander said directing a glare towards Mildew
Axel: I don't presume to know Thor's mind, Mildew. But we will find a way to soothe his anger.
[Cuts to the Dragon riders gathering in the village.]
Hiccup: Another storm is coming.
Tuffnut: Thor tore a hole in the Great Hall. Maybe he's hungry? I know I am.
Hiccup: We need to make Thor happy. But what do you get the god of Thunder and Lightning?
Fishlegs: In the past, I know Thor's enjoyed a sacrifice or two.
Ruffnut: Let's sacrifice Tuffnut!
Tuffnut: Okay, what time should I be there? There better be fire involved.
"We are not sacrificing anyone!" Hiccup said firmly as if he's had this conversation a thousand times. Truthfully, Gobber was starting to believe he had.
Hiccup: Nobody's gonna be sacrificed!
Snotlout: Not yet, anyway.
Hiccup shot a glare towards Snotlout who gave him a sheepish smile.
Noell: I had an aunt who was cursed by Odin once. She had to pay tribute to him by sailing to the end of the Earth.
Fishlegs: Did it work?
Noell: I don't know. I guess she couldn't find it, because she kept showing up from the opposite direction.
"That's because the earth is round" Tuffnut said knowingly causing many Vikings to roll their eyes. The earth was flat and the male twin was just speaking nonsense.
Fishlegs: The gods have never been mad at anyone from our family. Knock on wood. Hop on one foot. Slap a Jorgenson.
Snotlout: If I were Thor, I would want a giant statue. Of myself, Snotlout, as Thor!
Noell: You do know we're trying to make him happy?
Snotlout: Exactly!
"That will not make him happy! It will do the opposite!" Astrid said waving her arms in exasperation. If there's one person in the world who can make a god angry without trying it's Snotlout. She was honestly surprised Thor didn't shoot him down for the idea.
Noell: I think I just threw up in my mouth.
Hiccup: Actually, that's not a bad idea.
Noell: It's not an idea, it's a reflex.
"I don't think that's what he meant"
Hiccup: What--? No! I-I mean the statue.
Noell: There I go again.
"See, Noell thinks it's a good idea" Snotlout smirks wiggling his eyebrows. Noell rolled her eyes and elbowed him in the feet. He grunted and grabbed the spot she hit.
Hiccup: No! Not Snotlout! Thor!
Fishlegs: Hmm, Dragon Isles has never given Thor a statue.
Hiccup: Well, then it's high time we did!
[Scene changes to show the teens working on building the statue.]
Tuffnut: Yowch!
Ruffnut: Ouch!
Hiccup: Great job. Uh, one issue. Thor's knee bends the other way. You know, like a knee... on a person?
Hiccup: What are you doing?
Fishlegs: I'm making Thor's pants. I hope they're not too tight. I hate it when my pants are too tight. I feel so bloated.
"Why does it feel like this is going to end badly" Ingrid said slightly worried. To her surprise she wasn't just worried about her daughter but also Hiccup and his dragon.
Hiccup: Okay, guys, we better start welding these pieces together.
Hiccup: Yeah. I really think Thor's gonna like this. [Scene changes to the villagers gathering together.] Attention! Attention everyone! Okay, so, I know we're not exactly Thor's favorite people right now, but I am confident that this beautiful statue will got a long way toward getting us back in his good graces! So, without further ado... [he and Toothless pull off the cloth and reveal the statue.]
Axel: Well done! Thor will appreciate this tribute, and will smile upon us once again!
Mildew: You really think this is enough to appease the mighty Thor, while you allow a Night Fury in your midst?! YOU'RE FOOLS! ALL OF YA!
[Later, another storm strikes.]
Hiccup: Unbelievable. Even more lightning than the last storm.
Hiccup facepalmed. Why didn't he figure it out sooner, why did it have to take falling out of the sky to figure out the problem.
Ernalynn gave her father a sympathetic glance. She's always been closer to her father than her mother and she hated seeing him upset.
Schmidt: I don't understand. We gave Thor a giant statue!
Axel: It was a gallant effort, son, but it looks as though this is not what Thor wanted. [schmidt sidesteps away from Toothless.]
Hiccup: Schmidt, what are you doing?
Schmidt: I love Toothless, I'm just erring on the side of caution.
Toothless growled and glared at Schmidt who put his hands up in defense.
Hiccup: Hey, don't worry, bud. I'm not gonna let anything happen to you. No matter what some people think!
[Scene cuts to show Meatlug sniffing around in Fishlegs' room, she finds him under his bed.]
Fishlegs: I know you're scared, girl. If you wanna hold me, that's what I'm here for.
[Cuts to the Twins sitting on a rooftop, watching the storm, eating nuts.]
Ruffnut: Whoa. Look at all that damage and destruction.
Tuffnut: I know. It's so beautiful!
Ruffnut: Whoa, whoa, whoa!
Tuffnut: Whoa... Nobody blows stuff up like Thor.
Hoyce turned towards his honerary aunt and uncle. "Who do you prefer, Loki or Thor?" Hoyce asked innocently.
Ruffnut and Tuffnut looked at each other. It was a hard choice to make, the god of pranks or the god of destruction. They never thought about it before and honestly they couldn't decide.
[Lightning currents through the metal statue, causing even more damage.]
Mildew: That's what Thor thinks of the statue! I told you what he wants, and we haven't given it to him! Until we rid this island of that Night Fury, Thor's fire will continue to rain down upon us!
[Scene changes to Hiccup trying to comfort Toothless.]
Hiccup: Y-You don't really think Thor is angry because of Toothless, do you?
Axel: Of course I don't.
Hiccup let out a sigh of relief. Even though this was in the past he was thankful of his father's trust in him.
[Someone bangs on the door.]
Mildew: Open up, Axel! We've come for the Night Fury!
Axel: But I'm afraid they do. Get Toothless to a safe place, I'll try to reason with them.
Hiccup: But-
Axel: Just go!
Schmidt: Safe travels, old friend.
"Old?" Hiccup asked offended. He was only fourteen when this took place for Thor's sake.
Schmidt rolls his eyes "you know what I mean"
[Hiccup and Toothless sneak out back.]
Hiccup: Don't worry, bud. It's you and me.
[Scene shows a mob at Axel's doorstep.]
Mildew: Give up the dragon, Axel! Look at your people. We've had enough!
Axel: You're too late. He's gone.
Schmidt: Axel's already sent him off the island.
Mildew: Thor says otherwise. The dragon must still be on the island. Find the Night Fury! Go!
[Cuts to Hiccup, Toothless and Noell.]
Noell: We can hide Toothless in the cove for now.
Hiccup: They'll just find him. No. We have to leave.
Noell: "We?"
Hiccup: He can't make it on his own. And I wouldn't want him to. I'm going with him, Noell.
Noell: But you'll come back, right?
Hiccup: Yeah, eventually. When they all realize this didn't happen because of Toothless.
Noell: You better go.
[Hiccup and Toothless fly away.]
Mildew: Where's the boy?! And more importantly, where's the dragon?!
Noell: I don't know, Mildew, but you got your wish. Hiccup and Toothless are gone.
Mildew: Oh, bah! Find the Night Fury! All of you!
"You got to give him credit, he doesn't give up"
Sander gave his wife a look.
"What?" Thyra asked confused.
[Toothless lands in a forest. They look down from a top of the hill to see the mob searching for them. They fly off into the storm. Lightning strikes Toothless' tail fin, and he plummits.]
Hiccup: TOOTHLESS!
Mildew: Ah! There they are!
[They fall back into the forest.]
Hiccup: Whoo...You okay, bud? [Toothless whimpers at his damaged tail fin. Hiccup kneels down to check it out, and burns himself on the hot metal.] Ow, that's where the lightning hit... [he looks back toward the village and notices the lightning is hitting the metal perches.] The metal! I wonder...
Astrid gasped in surprise. "The metal! The lightning is attracted to the metal" Astrid exclaimed shocked at the new revelation. It had nothing to do with Thor at all.
Hiccup gave her a smile which caused her stomach to flutter.
Axel smirking trimumphly "I told you it had nothing to do with dragons" Axel told Stoick smugly. The only response he got was a grumble unfortunately.
[Toothless gets caught in a bola.]
Mildew: Secure the dragon!
Hiccup: Toothless! No! Leave him alone!
Mildew: Don't try and stop us, you'll only make it worse for your precious dragon.
Hiccup: Toothless!
Mildew: Say your goodbyes.
"NEVER!!!!" Hiccup shouts
Hiccup: Toothless! [He tries to get to him, but is held back by other Vikings. They chain Toothless up and drag him away.] Toothless...
[Scene shows Vikings pulling Toothless to the docks.]
Axel: I know you're afraid. But this isn't how we do things on Dragon Isles! These dragons are not the beasts we once thought they were. They're part of us now.
Mildew: Not this one! Not anymore!
Axel: Release the dragon, Mildew.
Mildew: Open your eyes, Axel. It's the only solution and you know it. It worked with Barnstat and it'll work with Toothless.
[Scene changes to Hiccup in his house, he grabs a metal rod. The other teens meet him.]
Noell: Hiccup! They've got Toothless! They're about to float him off to sea.
Hiccup: I know. Why do you think I have this?
Tuffnut: Oh, tough one. How many guesses do we get? Five?
"That didn't help Tuffnut!"
"To be honest... I wasn't trying to" Tuffnut responded
Hiccup: Oookay... Noell, fly me to the docks!
[Scene goes back to the other Vikings.]
Axel: If you want to get to that dragon, you're gonna have to go through us! [Bucket and Mulch push their way up to join Axel and Schmidt.] Thank you, lads.
"Yes, Thank you Bucket and Multch" Hiccup thanked with a sigh of relief.
"No problem Hiccup" Bucket replied.
"Happy to help" Mulch replied cheerfully.
Bucket: I-If we're choosing sides, Mulch, uh, there's more over there. Lots more.
Mulch: We stand with the Chief, Bucket.
[Vikings lunge at them, but are knocked back by Stormfly.]
Hiccup: Stop! Stop! You could get rid of Toothless, you could throw him off the edge of the world, but it's not going to stop this lighting from destroying Dragon Isles. It's the metal. The lightning is hitting the metal! Just think about it. We never had a lightning storm like this until we put up those perches, that statue, right? And they're all made of metal!
Mildew: Oh, bah! You ever heard of anything so insane?!
Hiccup: Y-you see? This is where the lighting struck Toothless. On this connecting rod... this metal connecting rod! Look, if you don't believe me, I can prove it! [he runs back to Stormfly.] Fly me up. [He climbs onto the mast.]
Noell: Are you sure you know what you're doing?
Hiccup: Sure? Uh, that's a strong word. It's really more of a... hunch. I'll be fine. Go!
Schmidt: Oh, boy, here he goes again...
Hiccup turns towards Schmidt "What's that supposed to mean?" He asked incredulous
"It means you come up with crazy dangerous ideas" Schmidt answers simply
Hiccup tries to deter his claims but Gobber came to the other's blacksmiths defense "he has a point"
Hiccup gave both blacksmiths a look of betrayal
Axel: He doesn't make it easy. Hiccup!
Hiccup turns his look of betrayal towards his father but only got a shrug in return.
Hiccup: You'll all see for yourselves! When I attach this metal rod to the top of this mast, the lighting will be drawn to- [Lightning stikes him.]
"HICCUP" Ran throughout the room from both Dragon's Isles and Berk.
Axel: HICCUP! [Hiccup looses conscious, and falls off the mast and falls into the water.] Son... [Toothless breaks his chains and jumps into the water after him, and drags him back to the surface.] Hiccup... Son...
[Scene changes to Hiccup lying in bed. He groans and wakes up.]
Hiccup: Toothless! What happened, bud? At least I didn't lose another one.
[Axel and Schmidt run up.]
Axel: My boy! You're alright! You took a lightning bolt to the head.
Schmidt: Just like Barnstat. Except we won't be throwing you off the island.
"Gee, thanks. That is much appreciated" Hiccup tells the blacksmith dryly.
"Your welcome" replied Schmidt cheerfully
Hiccup: So everyone knows Thor wasn't mad at Toothless?
Axel: They do now.
"Thank the gods" Hiccup said petting Toothless. "I don't know what I would do without you bud"
Toothless warbled happily agreeing with Hiccup statement.
Schmidt: Until we figure out why Thor was angry at the metal, we're all walking on eggshells.
"Did you ever figure out why" Stoick asked concerned. Hoping that the answer could help them on Berk.
"Nope" Schmidt replied cheerfully. Stoick frowned.
[Scene cuts to the villagers taking down the perches and statue.]
Hiccup: Oh, we worked so hard on that statue. Kind of a shame we have to just scrap it for parts.
Axel: Well, maybe we don't have to. Why don't you take it to one of the high points on the island and leave it there?
Tuffnut: Good idea, Chief! I would've thought of it myself, but I'm not the Chief.
Snotlout: Oh, we'll handle that for you.
[Scene changes to Mildew in his house, he hears a bang, and looks outside to see Thor's statue at his doorstep. He notices the Dragon Riders flying away.]
"That is not what I had in mind" Axel sighed
Alvin nudged Axel "You told them to take the statue to high points. That's what they did"
Axel gave his former enemy a look "Next time I'll be more specific" He grumbled
"That's genius" Destian said holding his side from laughing so hard.
Mildew glared at the laughing Viking and the dragon riders. They wouldn't be laughing if it happened to them.
Mildew: You'll pay for this!
Hiccup: I'm not sure that's what my dad had in mind, guys.
Snotlout: Hey, that's the way I understood it.
Hiccup (v.o.): No matter how much things change around here Vikings are still Vikings. They're not afraid to admit when they're wrong. And when they do, watch out! Cause you'll be up to your ears in pie and smoked fish.
"On to the next episode!" Ernalynn stated excitedly. She was eager to learn about her parents early life.
