I watched everyone dispersing away from the set, my eyes diverting away from the view finder.
We just finished up the scene of today. Hyung had me do cinematography again on his new film, but it's gonna be soon before we have to go shoot the next one.
He pats me on the back, my eyes looking at him. His arms crossed, his smile leaking from it's cracks since it was covered by his beard
Y/N - Yun-Seo-hyung
Yun - Y/N, great job today. Come on with me, let's go grab lunch together.
I checked the rig again before leaving with him, I walked him by his side. His arm wrapped around my shoulders while he smoked beside me
Y/N - that shit is gonna catch up to you eventually
Yun - ah it will, but what's any fun in life without any risks?
Y/N - right hyung.
Yun - how's life going?
I sigh, I was gonna start college again the next month so I wasn't looking forward to it.
Y/N - okay hyung, I should be calling you Yun-Seo-nim around here

We laugh while we walked over to my car with his beside it

He takes one last drag and throws it on the ground, stomping on it before we headed into my car
Yun - my car will be fine, I know a place around her for good food. I'll just lead you
I start up the car, it purrs making him smile

Yun - oooo Dae may be reckless but he does know good tuners
Y/N - he got some of his Japanese guys to do it for him
Yun - no wonder that shit sounds like christmas to my ears, rev it up for me
I revved it up, giving him a stank face of pure ecstasy
Yun - son of a bitch, fuck it. We're speeding over to the place. Can you drive?
Y/N - can I drive? Hyung I spent some time over at the race tracks in Tokyo, of course I can
Yun - go on then
Our seatbelts around on, I got into first gear and went our way towards the restaurant
It was pretty fucking fun honestly. He was screaming wildly for an old guy but hell, he's still young as he looks. Despite that big ass kratos beard he's got going on.
We parked into a spot he saw for the restaurant and we got out of the car
Yun - let me drive it back
Y/N - sure hyung, catch
I throw him the keys and he smiles
Yun - man in my next life, you gotta be reborn as my son
Y/N - we'll see
We both laughed and went into the restaurant and got our orders.
With him paying of course.
After finishing, we shared some drinks since we had some minutes left before we had to go back
Yun - so I heard about you and that girl, that one you never really mentioned until now
Y/N - Min-Jeong? Yeah, me and her. She's the reason I started in the first place
Yun - you kids, bring me back to my first love.
Y/N - who was she hyung?
Yun - ah, this noona in my neighbourhood. Big rack and my god, 15 year old me remembered it so well, we hit it off once actually
Y/N - stop the lying
I laughed while he smirked, trying to explain himself
Yun - seriously kid, one night with her and just like that. Never saw her again. She was 2 years older than me but that was in college when I visited my hometown during Christmas break. *sighs* yahhh I would kill to go back again
Y/N - you are one perverted old ass man you know that right?
Yun - fuck yeah I am, I'm 41 years old and you expect me not to be? I'm trying to catch up with you kids and appeal to you

I laugh, laying my glass on the table, with a unexplainable look on my face
Yun - what's up? You look down, what's up with you?
Y/N - nothing, just tired. Taking care of Daisy and just chores and stuff.
Yun - ah your little sister? Wasn't she like 4 a year ago?
Y/N - she's grown up now hyung haha, it has been a while since you met my family
Yun - you have a good one too at that. I wish I knew my dad kid, but hey. I did well on my own, and you're the closest thing to a son I have
Y/N - you already say that already, age is catching up hyung
Yun - ah really?
He scratches his head, making me smile.
Yun - probably from all the alcohol, *sighs* I gotta stop
Y/N - I need you around more than you think hyung. Who else would teach me the beauty of filmmaking?
Yun - ha. Y/N
Y/N - hm yeah?
Yun - take a look at this glass.
I look at his glass, it was half filled and then half empty, he then points behind me. I look behind and see a tree in the distance, since we were in the countryside so we were surrounded by a few cars and mostly land.
Yun - now do you know why I made you look?
Y/N - n- no idea?
Yun - the glass is you and me. You're what is left in the glass and I'm the negative space of air in it. And that tree is your future. That tree will keep on growing for many years to come. Me? I'm air kid. All I do now is occupy parts of your life that will be there only for a small amount of time, the beauty of filmmaking isn't in my hands but rather what you make of it. Anything that I've taught you, you know better that it's much more than just me. It's you. The person who controls everything in their life, and it's you that controls what you want.
I listened quietly , taking everything to heart, my ears focused intensely since he's always given me the advice I needed.
Yun - it ain't me you should be worried about. It's you. You're the only kid I took on ever, you've watched me do every picture since you were a damn teen, and now. Eventually. I'm gonna be gone, but I trust you that when I retire. I want you to be L/N Y/N not Kang Yun-Seo, you know my style, you know how I direct, you know my shots. And you've replicated them perfectly but when I look at your movies. It's fresh, reminiscent of my younger days but. Better. Hopeful than I ever was. You already captured beauty, it's like lightning in a bottle but instead of a rageful hell, it's the beauty of humanity that you can capture. I'm saying this now because it's my last film kid.
My heart pumped, his last words shook me to my core

Yun - don't get all jittery on me kid. I love ya, but I gotta focus on myself after this. I never got to appreciate wherever I filmed, whether it was South America or fucking Europe, this old man never got to appreciate life itself. So I'm leaving shit to you, it's not a big burden but rather a blessing.
Y/N - hyung but-
Yun - ah right, you'll enlist eventually but, listen. The moment you get out, call me. Remember this okay?
Y/N - okay.
Yun - I'll get you back on your feet when you get back. I know it ain't now, but I'm preparing in case if my body decides to kick the bucket, and if it does before you get back. Call her. You know who she is.
He was talking about his ex-wife. They divorced years ago but remained friends, it was the only person in his life that even though things never worked out, they at least maintained a good contact with each other. She had access to some of his stuff like, his will and what not. He was the godfather of his ex-wife's kid to her new husband.
Life isn't so kind to everyone and especially to hyung, but at least he has something to carry on when he's gone from this earth.
Y/N - okay hyung. That was some real hard shit you put on me.
Yun - sorry kid, last movie and all. Hell, I don't even know if you'll see me again after this. But I want to let you know, it's been a pleasure taking care of you all these years.
Y/N - it's been one hell of a good few years huh?

He sighs, looking out the window. Wiping his face with a paper tissue, before looking back at me.
Yun - come on, let's get out. I'll leave the money here.
I chug down the rest of my drink, he leaves the money on the table for the servers to collect and we go on our merry way.

We had done the rest of our shoot and I went back home.
I drove for a while, but about 30 minutes before getting there. I get a call.
Y/N - Yeoboseyo?
Su - heya
Y/N - Hyung?
Su - I'm in town, meet for a drink?
I looked at the time, Min-Jeong was already home with Daisy since she was off for the day so I figured it would be a good time
Y/N - sure. Send me the place
Su - cool, we gotta talk.
Y/N - arraseo, see you then
Su - see ya
I hung up the call and continued driving, eventually following the directions of the address he sent me and went over there.
I parked the car, walking out of it and locking it.
Making my way inside of the bar, I saw him at a table alone.
With a shaved head.
Y/N - Sujin-hyung?
He waves at me with a big smile on his face. My butt plopping down on the seat opposite him.
Y/N - how's it been hyung?
Su - ah you look good.
I grabbed the soju bottle on the table and poured him a drink and then poured mine as we both took a shot.
He looks at the ajumma and asks for some food for us, he wipes his nose sniffling, smiling and taking a good look at me.
Su - yah, my little brother looks so goddamn tired. What's with you?
Y/N - work, what's with you? Got a shaved head and shit
I try to grab his head, he waves it off as we both laughed
Su - I'm enlisting tomorrow, I don't want you to come over there crying and shit so I went here before I go making sure you could cry here instead
I laugh, taking another shot
Y/N - shut up, eomma, appa going?
Su - nah. I don't want to see them cry too. I would've seen Daisy but, I think it's better for her to see me again when I'm all grown up.
I sadly smile, thinking about how he just doesn't want to see him in his most vulnerable.
This older brother I've had all my life, always took care of me. When I got into fights, he was there by my side. When I got hurt, he would take care of me. He was a real brother. And a damn good one at that
Y/N - what about-
Su - I know what you're gonna say, he's enlisting with me too. We already broke up with our girlfriends, what a shame but. Hey. they don't stick around forever you know.
Y/N - yeah.
Su - he wanted to see her off but he also decided it's best for her too, you're there anyways.
Y/N - he knows?
Su - of course, she texts him you know that.
Y/N - ah.
I took another shot, his eyes frowning
Su - yah calm down would you?
Y/N - sorry.
Su - fucking. Come here
He leans over the table, hitting me on the head. But then ruffling my hair, his face smiling.
Su - fucking worried about me. Don't be would you? I took care of your ass long enough
Y/N - but it's a long time Hyung
Su - I ain't going to war you know, you'll see me again. So don't get all pissy drunk right now over me.
Y/N - hah sorry
Su - don't apologise would you? Come on, I came here for a drink with you. Come on, cheer up.
I cheered up, his arms were crossed but hey, it would be shitty to make him sad before he left.
We spent the next while just talking about life, Min-Jeong and my future.
He was well off when he got back since Min-Jeong's brother got him guaranteed for a job or something for the both of them at some rich guy's place to work, and it pays really well apparently.
We got up since we wanted to spread our legs so we went out to grab some snacks
Su - hit me
I throw him up a nut in the air and he catches it, I clap while he cheered
Su - still got it
Y/N - alright I can one up you
Su - piss off, catch.
He throws it up suddenly higher than I did, aiming for it. I caught it and he cheers, hugging me
Su - god fucking damn, better than me already
Y/N - always was
Su - ah you got a big head since you finally got with Min-Jeong huh?
We broke out of the hug, we faced each other. He feels the back of his shaved head, the breeze going through us.
Y/N - yeah. She's amazing.
Su - I'm happy for you. You always loved her, I always knew that.
Y/N - really?
Su - you always looked at her more differently than any other girl you met. Your eyes always spoke the truth you know.
Y/N - pssh.
He puts me in a headlock, us both laughing again.
He lets go of me, but he looks up to the sky, sighing.
Looking at me, he subtly frowns. Wanting to be strong.
Su - I gotta go. Gotta wake up early and shit.
Y/N - I'll drop you of-
Su - nah. It's okay.
I was in the middle of taking out my keys when he stopped me with his hands
Su - I'm nearby. And- well. Ah fuck, I didn't want this to be sappy.
I could tell he was holding back tears, this guy always was such a soft guy at heart.
Su - I love you man.
Y/N - I love you too hyung. You're a real good brother to me.
He punches me softly in the chest, putting his palm on my heart before reaching back to his side.
Su - take care of Daisy and Min-Jeong for me okay?
Y/N - I will.
Su - don't forget to call mom and dad once in a while.
Y/N - I won't forget.
We both laugh. I hugged him first, his arms wrapping around me.
It's the first time he's hugged me in years since he always thought it was a weak thing to do, but. He knew one day it would lead to this so he was saving it up for a perfect moment to tell me everything from one action.
We break off, he suddenly turns around wiping his eye, disguising it as something got in his eye
Su - ah my eye. Fucking dust.
Y/N - you okay?
Su - Ani it's fine. I'll see you alright?
Y/N - I'll see you hyung.
He waves off with his back turned to me, I waved back to him. Hearing his sniffles, watching him disappear into the darkness. Leaving me alone.
I walked back to my car and went back home.
Opening the door, my two girls were on the couch waiting for me. Already up and running towards me, accepting their loving hugs
Daisy - where were you?!?
Win - YEAH?!?!?
Y/N - sorry you two, I was with your Sujin-oppa
I kissed Min-Jeong, squatting down and kissed Daisy on the forehead. I pick her up and bring her to the couch with Min-Jeong sitting beside me.
Win - hm why was he with you?
Y/N - he's enlisting tomorrow
Win - oh.
I let out a emotionless soft smile, Daisy tilted her head in confusion
Daisy - what's that?
Y/N - ah. Sujin-oppa will be- uh. Going to work for a while
Daisy - will he come see us?
Y/N - eventually Daisy, eventually.
She hugged me, wrapping her small arms around me while I looked at Min-Jeong who gave me a sad smile. Holding my hand.

A few weeks after that, Dad came by to visit.
I was cooking with Daisy when I heard the doorbell ring, Min-Jeong was at practice so I turned down the heat and brought Daisy with me
Y/N - come say hi to the guest with me
Daisy - okay!
I opened the door to reveal dad
Dad - son!
Y/N - dad!
Daisy - Appa!
We all hugged each other passionately after not seeing each other for quite some time.
He picks up Daisy, letting him in while he looked around
Dad - nice place you got here. Where's Min-Jeong?
Y/N - working, come sit on the couch, play with Daisy. I just need to finish up cooking lunch
Dad - alright.
He brings Daisy over to the living room while I finished up cooking. I made him a cup of coffee and one for myself. Bringing it over to the coffee table
Dad - thank you
Y/N - no probs. What brings you here?
I sipped out of my cup while he did too, with one hand he played with Daisy while we talked
Dad - just wanted to see the place, you already brought over your mom so I had to come over eventually.
Y/N - how are you dad? You doing okay?
Dad - ah my back still hurts from that fall I had a few months ago but, it's that old age.
We both softly laugh, putting down his cup.
Dad - how are you and Min-Jeong?
Y/N - good, good actually. We're doing quite well. She's bringing in the money and I am as well to pay off for this place so, we're- great.
Dad - good to hear. Thanks for taking in Daisy as well. Your old man here had a long life, so I can't keep up with a young kid nowadays especially with how energetic she can be
He lifts her up into his arms and she laughs happily making me smile despite the limitations of his body
Y/N - we got lucky that you got one more kid in before it hit, and it's a girl too. Better than I had to deal with Sujin-Hyung
Dad - shame I couldn't see him off, me and your eomma wanted to go but eh, that kid is hard headed as me.
Y/N - he's just a soft guy inside appa, he gets it from you
Dad - he's a good kid, he doesn't look like he cares but he does. He probably didn't want to burst into tears if he saw us there.
Y/N - yeah.
Dad - but other than that. I came here with this.
He takes out something out his jacket and puts it on the table
I pick it up and looked at it
Y/N - what's this?
Dad - a film school for you, in the states.
It was a pamphlet for the AFI (American Film Institute)
Dad - figured if you were interested.
Y/N - I can't da-
Dad - son.
He puts his hand on my arm, making me look up at him
Dad - I just want what's best for my son. Sujin got what he wanted but it ain't too late for you.
Y/N - I don't know dad.
Dad - take your time okay? It's an idea. But Yun-Seo came by yesterday. Talked to him, and he gave me this
"That old man"
I snickered, appreciating that he's still looking out for me
Dad - I know me and him enrolled you into the college here but, it ain't enough. Your talents shouldn't be wasted.
Y/N - I get it.
Dad - you're my other son. I love you as much as Sujin. And this girl here too. I'm proud of all of you, when she grows up. I'll give her the decision too.
Y/N - thanks dad.
He affirmed himself, focusing his attention back on Daisy. My mind jumbled looking at the pamphlet at every part of it.
Unsure if it was something that I wanted myself. To leave behind Min-Jeong again.
The front door opens and speak of the angel. She appeared before us
Min - ah appa!
She bows at him, dropping her bag on the couch to hug Daisy
Dad - omo you're so beautiful now! Come here I wanna see the girl who used to play with Y/N!
She took off her face mask, my dad happily looking at her, I put the pamphlet back down on the coffee table, her eyes catching on it
Win - eh? What's that?
Y/N - uhm. Min-Jeongie? Do you mind if we talk about it later?
She looks at dad, he gives her a look of 'let him be' and she smiles at me
Win - oh okay. Sure. Did you get him anything?
Y/N - yeah. Some coffee
Dad - haha it's fine, I ate before coming here.
For the rest of the day, we talked with dad before he eventually left.
We put Daisy to bed and it was just us on the bed. My mind, restless from earlier.
Win - Y/N?
Y/N - yeah?
I looked at her, her chin on my chest. Her eyes were looking at me.
Win - what's with the pamphlet? It said AFI or something on it.
Y/N - it's just some film school appa and Yun-Seo-Hyung told me about
Win - is Yun-Seo your mentor?
Y/N - mmhm.
Win - where is the school in?
Y/N - the US. I don't. I don't really wanna go.
Win - why not?
She sits up straight a little but not wanting to push the agenda on me more so she wouldn't make me angry but it wasn't something to be angry about.
Y/N - I don't want to leave you, that's all.
She circles her finger on my chest, uncertain of what she would say.
Win - but what if I wanted for you to chase your dreams?
Y/N - what?
I sat up straight making her stop circling her finger around, her face becoming uncertain and scared of my reaction
Win - I'm just saying-
Y/N - no. no. even so. I don't want to leave you again.
I put both my palms on her cheeks, they were cold. I was just scared.
Y/N - god I don't want to leave you again. It hurt enough when it happened, I don't want to be away from the people I love
her fingers finding it's way to my hand. Making it feel warm, her face becoming soft and understanding.
Win - it's okay. I get it. I don't want to be separated from you too. Not again.
Y/N - sorry. Just, it scares me.
Win - me too. But will it be alright that you wouldn't go? Would you make it in the industry without the help you need?
Y/N - hyung has me. He would kick start my career so I'm not worried.
She nods, with everything she already needs to hear. She tucks herself in and kisses me
Win - then it's fine. We'll be alright right?
Y/N - we already are.
I kissed her, her arms wrapping around me with her warm hug. Her warmth making me feel sleepy already.
Win - goodnight oppa.
Y/N - goodnight Min-Jeongie.
We closed our eyes, more hopeful for the future.
