NIKLAUSIA HAD decided that to keep up with appearances she would teach at the local high school. Either way she had gotten her teaching degree in 1897 but the teaching style had changed and she'd taught here and there over the years.

She had quickly gotten ready and put her curly blonde hair into a half up hairstyle and left a few strands out in the front. She grabbed a blood bag and spiked her iced coffee with it. She quickly left and went to the school in her black 1967 Chevy impala. She quickly got out of her car and heard the humans talking.

"Who is that?"

"Damn she's gorgeous."

"That can't be our new teacher right?"

"If she's our teacher then imma feel dumb she can't be more than nineteen or twenty."

"If she die turn out to be our teacher then I'd hit that."

She heard a growl coming from someone for the last comment but ignored it. She walked to the office and knocked on the principal's office. "Hey I'm here for my classroom assignment and schedule."

The principal nodded and handed her the classroom number the key and the schedule. She had decided to teach AP History first, second, and third period. Art fourth, sixth, and eighth period. She taught music seventh period. Her lunch period was fifth period.

She walked to her classroom and students rolled in after a bit. After they all arrived she quickly took attendance. "Okay so my name Is Ms. Mikaelson but please call me Klaus Ms. Mikaelson make me feel old plus that was my mother's name and I don't like my mother. So any questions?"

One raised his hand, "Why don't you like your mother?"

She smiled at the young boy, "She did something unforgivable to me and my siblings. But don't stress yourself about it."

Another person raised their hand, "How many siblings do you have."

"Well there's me my oldest brother Finn, my older brother Elijah, my younger twin brother Kol, and my younger sister Rebekah. Then there's Freya who we were told died before I was born by our mother but I don't believe her our mother is a psychopathic liar and then there's my youngest brother Henrik who passed when he was quite young."

They all gave her a sympathetic smile besides Jasper who could tell that she didn't want the sympathy through her feelings. "Don't worry about it kids. So do you have anymore questions?"

"Are you and your siblings close?" Asked someone.

"For the most part yes Kol, Finn and I are close we were close with Henrik before he passed. However we're not close with Rebekah and Elijah."

Someone else raised their hand, "By your accent it's safe to assume you're not from here."

"Yes my family is originally from Norway. We're from northern Norway." Said the old vampire.

Then another raised, "Why do you want us to call you Klaus?"

"My name is Niklausia, Klaus is just a nickname." Said the blue eyed Tribrid.

"Anymore questions?" Someone raised their hands.

"I heard you don't just teach History is that true?" Questioned her students.

"Yes I teach three AP history classes, three art classes, and one music class." She told the students. "So some of you may have to see me multiple times. Anymore questions?"

No one raised their hands so she continued talking, "Okay so today we'll be learning about the Civil War."

"Okay so the-" Suddenly her phone rang and she answered it was Marcel her son. "Hey hun call be back later I'm in class please."

"Sure thing ma-"

The line then went dead, "Sorry about that. So where were you. Right so the succession of the southern states which include South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Texas, Virginia, Arkansas, and North Carolina in 1860-1861 and the ensuing outbreak of armed hostilities were the culmination of decades of growing sectional friction over slavery. Between 1815 and 1861 the economy of the Northern states was rapidly modernizing and diversifying. Although agriculture—mostly smaller farms that relied on free labour—remained the dominant sector in the North, industrialization had taken root there. Moreover, Northerners had invested heavily in an expansive and varied transportation system that included canals, roads, steamboats, and railroads; in financial industries such as banking and insurance; and in a large communications network that featured inexpensive, widely available newspapers, magazines, and books, along with the telegraph."

How she said all that in one breath the students wondered to themselves. She too wondered herself how she could say all that in one breath. The phone rang and it was her son again so she answered, "Hun what's going on?"

"It's Rebekah she tracked me down again and is trying to kiss me after I continued to say no. She's trying to get me to sleep with her with the compulsion when I've already told her to stop. Had it not been for the ring you gave she would've done it by now." Said Marcel.

An angered Klaus is seen, "Pass me to her."

The students looked at her curious at what she's going to do. "Rebekah! If you continue to try to kiss my son without his consent and try to have sex with him so god help me I'll come down to New Orleans and drag your ass here! NO REBEKAH STOP THATS SEXUAL ASSAULT YOU WILL NOT TOUCH MY SON BECAUSE I WILL GO DOWN THERE AND MAKE SURE YOU WILL BE WITH OUR MOTHER! No I don't care so stop! I don't care if Elijah is on your side! You know damn well I can beat his ass I've done it before!"

She then hung up, "Sorry about that my son just called me it seems like my sister is obsessed with my son and by the looks of it she thinks it's okay to try and have sex with a child who mind you has told my sister no on multiple occasions."

The students understood where she was coming from they too would be pissed if their siblings tried to sexually assault their child. "Okay so by contrast, the Southern economy was based principally on large farms (plantations) that produced commercial crops such as cotton and that relied on slaves as the main labour force. Rather than invest in factories or railroads as Northerners had done, Southerners invested their money in slaves—even more than in land; by 1860, 84 percent of the capital invested in manufacturing was invested in the free (nonslaveholding) states. Yet, to Southerners, as late as 1860, this appeared to be a sound business decision. The price of cotton, the South's defining crop, had skyrocketed in the 1850s, and the value of slaves—who were, after all, property—rose commensurately. By 1860 the per capita wealth of Southern whites was twice that of Northerners, and three-fifths of the wealthiest individuals in the country were Southerners."

Jasper looked at her there was something about his mate that was different she definitely wasn't human but she didn't seem like a vampire or a wolf.

"The extension of slavery into new territories and states had been an issue as far back as the Northwest Ordinance of 1784. When the slave territory of Missouri sought statehood in 1818, Congress debated for two years before arriving upon the Missouri Compromise of 1820. This was the first of a series of political deals that resulted from arguments between pro-slavery and antislavery forces over the expansion of the "peculiar institution," as it was known, into the West. The end of the Mexican-American War in 1848 and the roughly 500,000 square miles of new territory that the United States gained as a result of it added a new sense of urgency to the dispute. More and more Northerners, driven by a sense of morality or an interest in protecting free labour, came to believe, in the 1850s, that bondage needed to be eradicated. White Southerners feared that limiting the expansion of slavery would consign the institution to certain death. Over the course of the decade, the two sides became increasingly polarized and politicians less able to contain the dispute through compromise. When Abraham Lincoln, the candidate of the explicitly antislavery Republican Party, won the 1860 presidential election, seven Southern states (South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas) carried out their threat and seceded, organizing as the Confederate States of America."

The students looked interested maybe it was that she looked young. Or that she said it in a tone that made students curious. But whatever it was, the students were interested.

"In the early morning hours of April 12, 1861, rebels opened fire on Fort Sumter, at the entrance to the harbour of Charleston, South Carolina. Curiously, this first encounter of what would be the bloodiest war in the history of the United States claimed no victims. After a 34-hour bombardment, Maj. Robert Anderson surrendered his command of about 85 soldiers to some 5,500 besieging Confederate troops under P.G.T. Beauregard. Within weeks, four more Southern states (Virginia, Arkansas, Tennessee, and North Carolina) left the Union to join the Confederacy."

She spoke softly, "With war upon the land, President Lincoln called for 75,000 militiamen to serve for three months. He proclaimed a naval blockade of the Confederate states, although he insisted that they did not legally constitute a sovereign country but were instead states in rebellion. He also directed the secretary of the treasury to advance $2 million to assist in the raising of troops, and he suspended the writ of habeas corpus, first along the East Coast and ultimately throughout the country. The Confederate government had previously authorized a call for 100,000 soldiers for at least six months' service, and this figure was soon increased to 400,000."

The bell then rang and students started getting their things ready. "Okay so in my class you'll be no homework unless you don't finish it. You're dismissed."

She them smiled as the other students rolled into her class. Jasper left smiling she seemed very special. And it seemed that she actually somehow made students interested in history.
