Everyone in the Great Hall is either wearing Slytherin green and silver or Gryffindor red and gold. Lily is trying to get out of coming but the girls are firm about her coming to support our house. My first Quidditch game here, I can't help but think about playing with Jack, Harry, and Ron. How we would always do sleepovers the night before in the boys' dorm, sometimes with Mione too if we could get her to come. The day of the quidditch matches Jack jump scaring me and messing up my hair saying 'It's my good luck charm' and I would respond with, 'By pissing off the other beater?' I sigh and fold my arms placing them on the table, and put my head on them. Quidditch was always done together. It feels wrong doing it without them. The girls are too distracted with trying to get Lily to come to notice me in my slump which I am grateful for. Feeling eyes on me, I turn my head down the table and see The Marauders looking at me worriedly, I send them a little smile which makes them smile back and make silly faces to try and cheer me up. I snort and turn my head back to the girls when the doors slam open and Fabian runs in looking panicky.
"GRYFFINDOR WE NEED TO PANIC GIDEON IS IN THE HOSPITAL WING AND CAN'T PLAY!" I whip my head up and look at Fabian with wide eyes. Everyone starts yelling the rest of the Gryffindor team immediately stands up and they start talking. The Slytherin table erupts into cheers, I stand up and walk toward the team to hear what they plan on doing,
"I mean Sirius is a good beater," James suggests but the rest of the team looks at him like he's grown a second head,
"Are you forgetting he got a Quidditch ban?!" Fabian yells,
"Who can play if we don't have reserves for beaters?" Marlene asks looking worriedly between the team,
"I don't know," Fabian whispers looking defeated, Might as well, I shrug before standing up from the table and joining their brainstorming circle next to Marlene and Fabian,
"I can play," I add making everyone looking at me shocked,
"You haven't been here the whole time right?" James questions looking completely puzzled,
"Nope," I respond cheerily, I look at Fabian, and repeat, "I can play," looking him dead in the eyes,
"Playing beater is hard you need lots of straight, balance, speed, and be prepared to be hit by a rouge bludger," He lists looking me up and clearly not thinking I can do it,
"I have played beater plenty of times before," I sass rolling my eyes,
"Do you have a uniform?" Wood comments looking me up and down like Fabian did, I scoff and grab Marl's and Mary's moving us back to the girls,
"I'll sort it out," I call back and sit down, and piling mine, Mary's, and Marlene's plates with a piece of toast, an egg, and two pieces of bacon. I push it in front of them and start eating my own in silence going over the old dangerous tactics Jack and I came up with in 6th year. After I finish I stand up, "What time do I have to be at the pitch?" I ask Marlene whose leg is bouncing up and down,
"In 30 minutes," She murmurs and continues to pick at her food,
"Eat it will help. I know you feel like you're going to puke but you can't find the snitch on an empty stomach," I tease poking her shoulder making her smile a bit and actually eat some food. I sprint to my dorm and rummage through my trunk, "Come on, come on. Please tell me I packed them," I pray under my breath, throwing my clothes everywhere until I find them. Fuck they say, Fisher! I curse in my head before holding my hand over them and thinking of the name Gryffindor written in yellow on the back of my jersey. When I look down I almost squeal in joy when I see the right name on my jersey. Quickly I change my clothes and call Willow,
"Yes, Mistress?" She asks,
"Hi Willow can you grab one of Jack's brooms from his room," I stutter, That's the first time I've said his name in 5 months, I think as a few tears drip down my face. I bring my sleeve over my hand and wipe my eyes before, Willow hands me one of his old brooms before disappearing again. I leave my wand in the dorm and wandlessly levitate my broom above me as I run for the pitch. While running I do a sloppy braid to try and keep the hair out of my face. I run into the change rooms barely puffing, Yeah cause you were on the run for a year, I think sarcastically. I stand in between James and Marlene and look at what everyone else is looking at. There is a board with the plan on it and Fabian is pointing out what everyone is doing before turning to me.
"When did you get here?" He asks making everyone else look at me, none of them realise I have arrived,
"A few minutes ago," I shrug and start fiddling with the bat,
"Are you completely ready?" Fabian questions raising an eyebrow like I'm new to the sport,
"Yes I'm ready," I say rolling my eyes,
"Good now just follow my lead and do as I say," He tells me right as we have to walk out so I can't retaliate. That's just unfair, I huff following behind, and the announcer starts talking,
"For Gryffindor, we have Prewett - Beater, Potter - Chaser, Mckinnon - Seeker, Wood - Keeper, Meadows - Chaser, Macdonald - Chaser, and IS THAT GRYFFINDOR?!" I look up and see Remus commenting and looking shocked to see me down here,
"YES IT IS!" James screams up to him making people laugh with the both of them. The Slytherin team comes out to the field,
"For Slytherin, we have Nott - Chaser, Black - Seeker, Rosier - Keeper, Crouch - Beater, Flint - Chaser, Avery - Beater, Carrow - Chaser," Remus continues to announce after his slight shock. The teams walk forward and Nott starts being difficult,
"We can't start only one-half of the captains are here," He jokes sending a knowing look to Fabian who lunges at him. James and Wood have to grab him to stop him from getting kicked off the pitch. I step forward beside Fabian to his shock,
"Well since I am filling in for Gideon. Here's the other half," I state sending a glare to Nott, holding out my hand to shake,
"I would never touch a filthy Half-blood," He spits the Slytherin team all laugh before I take another step forward so I am right in his space,
"It seems you are forgetting. I am a pure-blood, and I was almost a Slytherin so shove your opinions right up your ugly a-" I start to yell when Mary and Marlene grab me and pull me away a bit,
"My bad Blood-traitor maybe I'll go for your red-haired Mudblood friend," He smirks but his smirk falters and he takes many steps back, when I lung forward, I feel my eyes turn red. Now it's Fabian's turn to hold back James as he tries to lung for Nott too. Madam Hooch puts her arm out just as I am about to grab Nott by his collar.
"That is enough! I want a clean game. Captains shake hands, that means you too Gryffindor," She tells us when I don't step forward at first. Fabian and I step forward and so does Nott, we hold out our hands and shake and I, unlike Fabian who barely touches Nott squeeze his hand so hard he's visibly in pain before I let go and smile sweetly.
"Your scary," James whispers in my ear as we mount our brooms,
"I know," I whisper back with a smirk before pushing off the ground and holding my beater bat. Flying around the pitch I take any chance I get to whack a bludger in Nott's direct without getting penalised. James is taking the same approach and ramming into him whenever even if it gets Slytherin a free shot. Fabian and I are working around the clock to keep the bludgers off our team especially Marlene since we need her to win. He and I are managing to work in sync, going for the right shots, knowing the other is going get certain ones that we could both get. I have narrowed it done to a twin thing since we both have twins. I see a bludger zooming to James and I know neither is going to be able to get in the right spots to hit it away from him. Thinking quickly I try something Jack and I talked about but never did. I let myself slide off my broom and hold on with my legs so I'm hanging upside down and sling back and whack the bludger at the underside of Nott's broom.
"GRYFFINDOR PURPOSELY SLIDES OFF HER BROOM AND HANGS UPSIDE DOWN TO HIT THE BLUDGER GOING FOR POTTER AND DIRECTS IT TO THE BOTTOM OF NOTT'S BROOM! IT HITS THE BROOM! GODRIC THE BROOM HAS SNAPPED! NOTT IS FALLING! I REPEAT NOTT IS FALLING!" Remus screams into the mic and Nott almost hits the ground but Avery manages to grab him right before he hits the ground. Bummer, I think sadly before grabbing onto my broom with my hands and letting go with my legs before pulling myself up and continuing to fly around. As soon as I am flying around again a timeout is called by Nott from the ground. We all make our way to the changing room but just as I put my broom down someone lifts me up and spins me around before putting me down again,
"Nat that was amazing, thanks for saving my arse but that was so cool!" James yells excitedly smile never leaving his face and he goes to talk to Wood.
"Gryffindor," Fabian says looking at me with embarrassment? I think,
"Hmm," I respond wiping the sweat from my face and moving to near where Marls and Mary are,
"I'm sorry for underestimating you when you said you could play," He mumbles and I make eye contact with the girls who are trying not to laugh,
"All good," I answer and continue talking to Marlene about the constant bludgers on her tail with Mary adding in ideas on how to dodge them when I hear Remus commenting again. But no one's out there?
"So in my hand, I have the dares for each Gryffindor team member that people have been submitting for the past 2 weeks!" He calls out and I can tell the Gryffindors, some Ravenclaws, and some Hufflepuffs are cheering. I look at Mary and Marlene confused but they aren't looking at me,
"Um, what is he talking about?" I ask confused Marlene and Mary look at me sheepishly before answering,
"Well we as a team said we would do a dare each in this game," Mary responds pink tinting her cheeks,
"And how come I didn't know?"
"Well, when we found out you were the prankster we thought you might put some crazy dares in so we didn't tell you..." Marlene answers giving me a small smile, as Remus starts talking again,
"I have had people ask if Gryffindor will be doing what Gideon was supposed to be doing and Fabian has informed me she will be!"
"EXCUSE ME?!" I scream turning to Fabian with my bat still in my hand,
"How about we put the bat down Gryffindor," He says nervously and slowly moving towards James,
"Considering you volunteered me for this I would think we were past using last names Prewett!" I yell pointing my bat at him lazily,
"It might not even be that bad," Fabian suggests before clearing his throat and clapping his hands, "Ok people the score is 120-90 our way! So let's get out there and beat those Snakes!" He yells over us and walks out and we all follow him out. Remounting our brooms we immediately go back to the game all throughout Remus is calling out our dares in pairs. Still hitting bludgers to and fro. I manage to actually hit the quaffle from Avery's arms and miss him completely. After a while of continuing playing Remus calls out mine and Marlene dares,
"Mckinnon's dare is to kiss a member of her team. Gryffindor's dare is JUMP OFF HER BROOM?!," Remus announces looking very concerned, I look at Marlene who is wearing a smirk. I tilt my head and her eyes flick to James, my eyes widen and my mouth is open before I start laughing nodding viciously. She flies straight over to James and only kisses his cheek but he starts going off,
"MCKINNON HOW DARE YOU?!" He yells and starts chasing after her leaving Gryffindor short a chaser. I see a bludger and hit it towards Carrow hitting him in the shoulder.
"JAMES GET YOUR ARSE BACK IN THE GAME!!!" Fabian and I scream at him at the same time, Fabian looks at me confused but goes back to defending our team and James finally stops chasing Marlene. Getting back in the game he manages to score. I fly beside Marlene and whisper something in her ear and she looks at me like I grew another head but flies 10 feet below me and I stand up on my broom shaking a bit trying to get my balance.
"Natalia get your arse back on that fucking broom now!" I hear Remus yell bringing everyone's attention to me. I face Remus smirk, give him the finger, and jump off my broom, I hear some people scream and others gasp. I gently angle myself to do a single flip before I see the end of Marl's broom with one hand and the other still grasping my bat. I grab onto the broom tightly and quickly pass the bat to Marlene and just as I do, I quickly grab my broom as it was falling.
"OH MY MERLIN GRYFFINDOR SOMEHOW DIDN'T FALL TO HER DEATH!" Remus shouts and I get back on my broom and grab my bat from Marls and she goes off in search of the snitch once more. After another 20 minutes, Marlene and Regulus spot the snitch and race after it. Fabian hits a bludger toward Regulus but he dodges it. As Fabian goes for another bludger I get an idea,
"Hit the bludger at me!" I yell to Fabian who looks at me concerned but goes to hit the bludger again, "HIT THE FUCKING BLUDGER TO ME!" I scream and this time he listens and whacks it as hard as he can toward me,
"Gryffindor is yelling at Prewett to hit the bludger! He hits the bludger at her! Gryffindor brings the bat back and hits the bludger at full force! This is the fastest Bludger I have ever seen! IT'S HEADING TOWARD BLACK, IT'S GOING TO HIT HIS ARM! And he swerves he's out of the game for the snitch. MCKINNON CATCHES THE SNITCH! GRYFFINDOR WINS 330-110!" Remus screams into the mic before disappearing into the crowd. When we get to the ground the Wood hoists Marlene on his shoulders and she's holding up the snitch for everyone to see. Fabian lifts me onto his shoulders and I am right beside Marlene. I feel wet tears running down my face, I forgot how good it felt to play, I think. Finally Fabian puts me down but I am immediately brought into a hug. Looking up I see Remus smiling down at me,
"Don't scare me like that again, ok Lia?" He asks me looking right into my eyes, behind the happiness of winning I can still see the fear,
"Can't make that promise Remmy," I smile sadly at him, Remus just sighs and pulls me back into a hug,
"Come on the girls and boys are together let's go before Lily kills James and Marlene and Sirius kill each other," Remus tells me and pokes me in the ribs making me laugh and slap his arm away,
"Yeah, yeah," I say still laughing when we see everyone. It seems like they are all talking to someone and I look at Remus whose face says he's just as confused as me. Alice and Sirius are the first to see us and wave us over spreading out a bit. The others notice us and move a bit as well I see a boy and a girl, I can't make out who they are.
"Hey, Lils who are the others?" I ask once we get close enough for her to hear,
"Oh, this is -" The rest of her sentence is cut off by two voices that sound equally shocked and heartbroken
"Nat?"
