Chapter 1

Summary:

the start of a whirlwind vacation
Notes:

Hello lovely readers! Happy Holidays, for those who celebrate this time of year!

This jay won fic is purely for self indulgence. I'm writing it so that I can read it myself! Lol

So if you like it, that's amazing! I'm glad my writing manages to bring you joy. If you want, drop me a comment (comments seriously make my entire LIFE)! And if you don't like the fic, that's okay too, just please don't leave hate.

It's important to note–this fic will contain mature content, such as swearing and smut! Smut won't happen until the second chapter, as I'm physically incapable of writing sex without buildup and fluff (and explicit consent). And obviously, NO MINORS ALLOWED!

I'm posting the first two chapters at once just to get the ball rolling on this story. The next two chapters will be posted shortly, I promise!

Thank you so much for checking this out, and I hope you're having an amazing day!
(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Jungwon is stressed .

Enhypen just finished a long period of busy schedules, and they'll be sent home on a weeklong break in a few days. This means that most members are in a state of utter relaxation; they're finally able to sleep stress-free.

But not Jungwon. While the others lounged around in the dorm all day, Jungwon had a four-hour meeting with management about Enhypen's future activities. It's hard for him to feel excited about having a break when he knows what awaits him upon his return.

Now he's tossing and turning, unable to get comfortable in his bed. It's past midnight, and he's exhausted, yet he can't sleep. His brain is whirring, trying to sort through all the different moving pieces of information he received today. Jungwon's roommates--Ni-ki, Sunoo, and Sunghoon--are passed out. Jungwon groans jealously and flops around in his sheets like a fish.

The blankets are too hot, his hoodie is too scratchy, and his mouth is too dry. He's so wired that he can see almost perfectly in the pitch-black darkness of his room.

After a few more minutes of restlessness, Jungwon gives up on sleeping. Careful not to wake the others, he shuffles across the room and into the hallway.

The Enhypen dorm isn't homey, but it's functional. It consists of a large kitchen area that bleeds into a living room, one big bathroom, a short hallway, and three bedrooms. Jungwon sits down on the giant living room couch and rubs his eyes, frustrated. He pulls his sweatpant-clad legs to his chest.

Jungwon's stomach growls, and he sighs defeatedly. He's exhausted, hungry, and stressed. He should probably eat something warm and drink some water. Perhaps another shower would quiet his mind. But he's too worn out to make any effort right now. So he just stares blankly at his sad, warped reflection in the dark TV.

First, he hears him. Then he sees him: A tall, lean boy in an olive green sleepshirt and grey joggers. Jay.

Jungwon's heart beats a little faster.

"Jungwon-ah," Jay says gently, concern in his eyes. "Why are you awake?"

"Why are you awake, hyung?" Jungwon responds cheekily.

Jay offers Jungwon a small smile. Jungwon likes Jay's smile. It's crooked and boyish and confident. White teeth and chapped lips against golden skin.

"I heard you shuffling around," Jay shrugs.

Jungwon pouts. "I thought I was being quiet."

"You were. I just have good Jungwon-senses."

Jungwon hums, slowly flopping onto his side. His cheek smushes into the soft couch pillow.

Jay laughs, finding the younger boy adorable.

"You okay, Won?"

Jungwon nods. "Yeah."

Jay frowns. Gently, he strokes Jungwon's hair away from his eyes.

"Have you eaten?" he asks.

Jungwon shakes his head "no." Jay's frown deepens. In an instant, he's walking towards the fridge.

"Let me make you something," he says.

Jungwon's face gets warm and fuzzy at Jay's words. The older boy is always so caring and thoughtful towards the members. That's Jay's superpower--he has a habit of making everyone he loves feel special. And Jungwon's not a greedy boy by any means, but there's a secret, selfish part of him wishing he were extra special, the most special, to his Jay hyung.

"O-okay," Jungwon says in a small voice.

He follows Jay into the kitchen and sits down at the counter. He observes as his hyung sets water on the stove to boil. Then Jay pulls out a cutting board and a knife, and soon he's rinsing and chopping scallions. Jungwon watches, eyes wide and alert.

Jay looks up and chuckles at Jungwon's eager expression.

"Hungry?" he asks.

Jungwon tugs at the sleeves of his hoodie.

"Yeah," he admits sheepishly.

Jay continues cutting, a playful smile on his face. "Just a few more minutes."

Like he is with most things, when Jay cooks, he's meticulous and intentional. Watching his focused expression and calm, precise hands makes Jungwon feel more relaxed.

Jay is languid throughout the entire process, occasionally looking up at Jungwon to see if the younger boy is still watching. Every time he meets Jungwon's wide, sparkly eyes, Jay's lips quirk into a small smile and he lets out a satisfied hum.

Then Jay is handing Jungwon a warm bowl of steaming ramen garnished with chopped scallions, two boiled eggs, and chili flakes.

"Here's your midnight snack, Won," he murmurs.

Jungwon shifts excitedly in his seat. "Wow, thank you, hyung!" he exclaims.

Jay hums and slides into the seat next to Jungwon's. He watches with satisfaction as Jungwon takes his first bite.

"It's so good," Jungwon coos. He's not lying. Runny egg yolk, spicy sauce, and warm noodles is one of Jungwon's favorite combinations.

"I'm glad," Jay smiles.

"You're not gonna have any?" Jungwon asks.

"Nah. I wasn't hungry. This is for you."

Jungwon flushes and looks away. His chest tickles with warmth.

"Thanks, hyung," he mumbles, cheeks bright red.

Jay ruffles Jungwon's hair affectionately.

"Anytime, Won-ah."

After Jungwon's had a few bites to eat, Jay asks, "So why aren't you sleeping?"

Jungwon puts his chopsticks down and sighs.

"I'm really stressed," he admits.

Jay's brow furrows in concern. "Why? Our schedules just ended."

Jungwon's leg starts bouncing under the countertop. He chews at his bottom lip.

"I know. I just have a lot on my mind," he starts. Then he turns to Jay with a playful expression and adds, "And managing six other boys, five of whom are older than me, isn't easy, you know."

Jay chuckles in understanding.

Jungwon continues. "I had a long meeting with management today. I don't want to stress you out, hyung, but we have a lot of hard work to look forward to after our break ends."

Jay sighs at this. "I figured as much. But at least we even have a break. A whole week is a long time off for us."

Jungwon shrugs, dejected. He's tired and stressed and overall just sad.

"What's wrong? Are you not excited to see your family?" the older boy asks. Everything about Jay radiates concern for Jungwon, from his face to his voice to his body language.

"My family is in Africa right now on a safari. They don't return for another ten days, so I'll spend the break alone in my house. It's not my parents' fault, though. Management didn't announce our time off until last week, and by then, the trip was nonrefundable," Jungwon explains sadly.

Jay's heart breaks a little at Jungwon's glum expression. This whole situation is so unfair for the younger boy. All Jungwon does is work, and he works hard. He puts his all into being a leader--he puts his all into Enhypen. Their last few months of schedules were especially demanding of Jungwon, and the younger boy rose to every challenge with passion and grit. He deserves to rest. He deserves to get some stress-free sleep. And most importantly, Jungwon deserves to have fun . Because though he's incredible at his job, at the end of the day, he's still a teenage boy.

So Jay says, "I'm taking you on a vacation."

Jungwon blinks at Jay in utter confusion.

"My dad's island hotel just got renovated, and I haven't checked it out yet. Let's go together," Jay offers with a bright smile.

Jungwon is shocked. Jay's dad owns a hotel. He always forgets how rich his hyung is.

"Are you being serious?" he blanches.

Jay nods, eyes sparkling with warmth.

Suddenly, Jungwon buzzes with excitement. His face breaks out in a big, dimpled smile.

"Okay!" Jungwon beams. "Wait, I need to book a flight, right?"

Jay smiles and brushes Jungwon's bangs from his eyes. The neckline of his shirt shifts to reveal a lean, golden chest.

Gosh , Jay hyung is so handsome, Jungwon thinks. He's so handsome , with his sharp jaw, angular features, playful grins, and wiry arms. And he's so caring. He's handsome and sweet and caring. Jay hyung perfect.

"Don't worry about it, Won. I've got it covered. Just finish eating, and then let's try to get some sleep, hm?"

Jungwon nods vigorously, blushing. Jay gazes at him with a crooked smile.

Jay hyung is perfect.

. . .

Jay wasn't lying when he said he'd take care of everything. He bought Jungwon a first-class flight seat, booked a black Cadillac to pick them up from the airport, and arranged the nicest hotel room Jungwon's ever seen (and he's stayed in a lot of nice places courtesy of HYBE).

The room doesn't even count as a room--it's a suite. Two bedrooms, one for Jungwon and one for Jay, are on either side of a large living area. In the central room, floor-to-ceiling sliding doors reveal a private deck with a hot tub and a front-row view of the beach and ocean beyond.

Jungwon can't believe Jay can afford to stay in a place like this.

But then he remembers... Jay's family owns this place.

As a trainee, Jay always wore the coolest clothes and the nicest colognes. Jungwon knew his Jay hyung came from wealth, but he didn't realize the extent of it until today.

Jay slides the glass doors open, and the sound and smell of rushing saltwater slowly floods the room. He's wearing a navy collared shirt tucked into khaki pants, a leather watch, and shiny brown shoes. He stands with his hands on his hips, taking in the ocean view. Jungwon joins him and laughs at his expression.

"You look like an uncle, hyung."

Jay's lips quirk up in a slight smirk.

"Uncle Jongseong?" he quips.

Jungwon giggles. "Yeah."

"Hmmm," Jay hums.

Still looking at the scenic horizon, Jay snakes his arm around Jungwon's waist.

Jungwon's insides flutter. He gives into the touch, leaning into Jay's side. Jay's arm is gentle yet firm around him, calm yet possessive.

In the distance, Jungwon spots a little kid throwing sand at his dad.

"Hyung," he laughs, "Look at that kid."

The kid throws a large clump of sand directly into his dad's face. Jay and Jungwon both laugh at this, finding the sight hysterical.

Jungwon loves Jay's laugh. His smile gets huge, he throws his head back, and he scrunches his eyes in an almost pained expression. Jay's laughing face is so funny that sometimes seeing it makes Jungwon giggle even harder.

"What's he doing?" Jungwon asks in disbelief.

"He's fighting," Jay speculates.

Then Jungwon points at a speedboat zipping across the sea at a dangerous pace.

"Hyung, hyung, look!" he says excitedly. "That boat is going so fast!"

"Yah! Are they trying to die?!" Jay exclaims.

"Woah, that looks so fun. I've never been on a boat before."

"Really?" Jay asks.

Jungwon nods. "Yeah. It's on my bucket list."

Jay hums in response, eyes still trained on the sea. Jungwon watches his contemplative expression. Jay's cheekbones, jaw, and nose are so sharp . It's the opposite of Jungwon, whose face is soft and round and cute.

Jay's brows are slightly furrowed, and when he runs his tongue along his scarred lower lip, Jungwon's throat goes dry. Suddenly, Jungwon is hyper-aware of his closeness to his hyung's face and the feeling of his hyung's arm around his waist. Antsiness bubbles in his entire body. He needs to move, needs to get his hands busy, and needs to do it now.

He drops his head against Jay's shoulder with a dramatic sigh.

" Hyuuuuuung, I'm bored," he complains.

Jay chuckles, and Jungwon feels it in his body.

"Hmmmm... The sun hasn't set yet, so we could go out and do something. The boardwalk here is really fun--I used to go there with my dad when I was little," Jay suggests.

"Ooh, a boardwalk! Is it like a carnival?"

Jay nods, "Yes, sort of. More like an amusement park."

"Okay, that sounds fun!" Jungwon cheers.

Jay smiles and squeezes Jungwon's hip.

"Great," he says, "Let me get changed, and we can go."

. . .

When they arrive at the boardwalk, the sun is beginning to set, painting the scene in oranges and pinks. The breeze is warm and soft, ruffling Jungwon's hair away from his eyes and forehead.

A series of small shops line the boardwalk, decorated with yellow string lights and vibrant signs. People are everywhere, yet it's not crowded--a far cry from the thronging masses in Seoul. Children ride bikes, couples share ice cream cones, families eat and drink at outdoor tables, and teens play volleyball on the beach.

At the end of the boardwalk is a giant Ferris wheel with flashing circus-esque lights and a few other colorful rides. Joyful chatter, bicycle bells, crashing waves, squawking seagulls, and laughter fill Jungwon's ears. His whole being hums with excitement. The liveliness of the atmosphere is infectious.

"Wow, hyung, this is incredible!" he marvels.

Jay's eyes are just as alight as Jungwon's.

"I know! There's way more going on than there was when I was younger. Most of these shops are new," he explains.

A tinkling song catches Jungwon's attention. His head snaps toward the source of the tune: a traditional merry-go-round complete with circus lights, gold accents, and fake horses with elaborate saddle designs.

"Let's go on that first!" Jungwon exclaims.

Though he's usually the calmer one in their friendship, Jay enjoys the carousel just as much as Jungwon. Jungwon looks so cute sitting on his horse, clutching onto the metal bar and yelling, "Yoiiiii!"

Every time the younger boy laughs, Jay's heart swells. He loves that Jungwon is having fun with nothing holding him back. Jungwon's joy is no longer cramped underneath the stress of his job. It's unleashed into the world, youthful and fiery and rampant, and the feeling of it crashing into Jay is pure ecstasy.

Jungwon is free . And Jay thinks it's beautiful.

Later, on a roller coaster ride, Jungwon and Jay hold onto each other for dear life. The ride is old and janky, making it all the scarier. Every time their bodies jerk or thrash, they shout, and Jungwon's vicelike grip tightens around Jay's arm. When they're rocketed through loop after loop, laughing and screaming, they're no longer celebrities, and no longer idols. They're just two boys, Jungwon and Jay, having the time of their lives on a warm summer night.

By the time they finish touring all the rides the boardwalk has to offer, Jungwon and Jay are exhausted. Their adrenaline levels have died down, leaving them with the feathery, tipsy sensation that follows any thrill-seeking activity.

Jay slings his arm around Jungwon's shoulders and leans into the younger boy.

"Ah, hyung, you're heavy!" Jungwon giggles.

Jay peers down at Jungwon and asks, "Are you hungry?"

"Yeah. That was kind of exhausting," Jungwon admits with a wide grin.

Jay lets out a loud, grandpa-like sigh and agrees. "I feel like I just got back from dance practice."

"Drunk-Dazed, Drunk-Dazed," Jungwon jokes.

Jay pretends to be in pain and sings, "즐겨봐, 이 carnival wow, OW!"

Jungwon groans at his hyung's dad joke.

"Yah!" he shouts. "That joke was so bad!"

Jay smirks at Jungwon.

"Then why do you look so happy?"

Jungwon scrunches his face in cute anger. He leans in and bites Jay's shoulder.

"Ow!" Jay yells. "You're like a cat, Wonnie!"

Feeling impish, Jungwon bites Jay again.

Then both boys are laughing with broad smiles, radiating pure happiness. Their joy fills the pink, salty air and seeps into each other's beings with every warm breeze.

They feast on various fried Korean foods at a dingy restaurant with metal chairs, colorful vintage posters, and string lights. Then Jay buys Jungwon a large stick of cotton candy from a street stall. Now they're on the only ride they haven't tried yet, the Ferris wheel.

Jungwon, sitting across from Jay, stares down at the lively boardwalk. He admires how the lights and colors bleed into white sand and dark sea, all wrapped up in the starry blanket of the night sky.

He munches on his cotton candy. He doesn't notice that he got some on his face until Jay leans forward and swipes the pink fluff off his cheek.

Jungwon blinks at Jay, confused. Then Jay brings his thumb to his lips and licks the cotton candy from his fingers.

Jungwon thinks he might faint.

This entire day with Jay feels like a dream, like something created directly from the warm magical fantasy realm of Jungwon's brain. If Jungwon died tomorrow, he'd die happy knowing he spent his final moments having the time of his life with his favorite person in the world.

Jay pats the seat beside him and beckons, "Come here, Won-ah."

Jungwon shuffles over to the older boy's side. Jay's arm finds its way around Jungwon's waist. Instantly, Jungwon nuzzles into Jay's chest, earning a satisfied hum from the older boy.

Jay and Jungwon touch all the time--light and fleeting, soft and lingering, intentional and cuddling. But Jungwon doesn't think he'll ever get used to it. Every time Jay's hands find their place on Jungwon's body, he melts.

Molten lava seeps through his every nerve, filling him to the brim and threatening to spill over thick and sweet and hot. And Jungwon can't help but wonder if his feelings were to spill, like honey from a jar, like maple syrup from a tree spout, would Jay lick them up? Would he lick Jungwon clean the way he licked that cotton candy from his thumb?

Jungwon's head spins.

And then Jay sighs, "I'm so happy right now, Won-ah."

Jungwon is about to burst. The warmth inside him threatens to flare from his every pore and ignite the whole world on fire.

But instead of exploding in an array of colorful light, Jungwon opts to use his words.

"Me too, hyung," he says quietly.

Jungwon's voice is sugar in the air, and Jay drinks it in. He leans his head on top of Jungwon's and lets his body go slack.

The boys sit in comfortable silence for a moment as the Ferris wheel continues turning.

Then, Jungwon is suddenly feeling playful. He doesn't know if it's a natural instinct or a result of constantly being compared to a kitten, but he starts nibbling Jay's arm.

Jay laughs, breaking the silence. Jungwon leans back and looks at Jay with an expectant expression that says, "Am I funny?"

Jay's eyes are warm when he murmurs, "Cute."

Satisfied with Jay's response, Jungwon squirms back into his position under Jay's arm. Jay ruffles the younger boy's hair.

For the rest of the ride, the boys sit side by side, staring at the view. Jay hums under his breath, and Jungwon languidly enjoys the sound the way he's enjoying his cotton candy.

. . .

Jungwon has problems sleeping, thanks to the constant hum of anxiety buzzing in his veins. But today was so fun and liberating that when his head hits the pillow, he's completely stress-free.

However, Jungwon doesn't like sleeping alone. He's gotten so used to Ni-ki's snoring, Sunoo's rustling, and Sunghoon's sleeptalking that the silence in the air is deafening. After a few minutes of debate, he rises from his bed and walks towards Jay's room.

Tentatively, he knocks on the door. He hears a soft "Come in, Won-ah" from the other side.

When Jungwon opens the door, he's suddenly shy. The window is open, filling the room with fresh, faintly salty air and the distant sound of waves sloshing on the beach.

Jay thinks Jungwon is adorable, with his oversized crewneck and too-big sweatpants pooling at his feet. Jungwon tugs on his sleeves nervously, eyes wide and dimple poking his cheek.

Jay's heart squeezes. He wants to swallow Jungwon whole.

Jungwon feels the same way about Jay. Sitting up against the headboard, Jay is reading a book. He wears glasses and a black tee. The bedside lamp is on, illuminating his golden skin with yellow light.

Gosh, Jay hyung is so handsome, Jungwon thinks for the billionth time.

"Is everything okay?" the older boy asks.

Jungwon flushes. "Can I sleep with you?"

Jay smiles. "Of course."

The older boy gently lifts the covers, allowing Jungwon to slide into the bed beside him. The blankets are warm from Jay's body heat and smell like him, fresh and masculine.

Jay lifts his arm as if on automatic reflex and hums, "Come here, Won-ah."

Jungwon obliges, cuddling close against Jay's firm chest. Their bodies fit together snugly like two pieces in a puzzle, Jungwon notes, and the thought makes his heart swell.

With his ear flat on Jay's chest, Jungwon can hear the older boy's heartbeat. Contrary to his calm exterior, Jay's heart is beating rapidly, indicating that he might be experiencing the same happiness as Jungwon right now.

"Can't sleep?" Jay asks.

"No," Jungwon sighs.

Jay hums sympathetically and brings a hand to Jungwon's lower back. Jungwon's sweatshirt has ridden up, and Jay rubs circles on the bare skin there. Every gentle trace of Jay's crooked thumb leaves goosebumps on Jungwon's skin.

Jungwon cranes his head to peek at Jay's book. He's surprised to see it's written in English.

"What are you reading, hyung?" he asks.

Jay tells Jungwon that the book is an American classic.

"I'm reading it to brush up on my English," he explains.

"Ah," Jungwon hums in understanding.

Then it's still again, and Jungwon uses this as an opportunity to gaze up at Jay. Somehow, Jay makes reading look sexy. His face is tan and sharp and beautiful. His glasses sit on the tip of his pointed nose, and his eyes are trained and focused on the book in his hand. Beneath his angular jaw is a small birthmark that Jungwon has the urge to lick. Jay's lips are chapped and slightly scarred down the middle, and Jungwon wants to drag his tongue down the small divet.

Jay's eyes shift to Jungwon. He smiles upon seeing the younger's glittering cat eyes.

Jay runs a hand through Jungwon's hair and down the back of his head.

"Did you have fun today?" he asks.

Jay's voice is low and gentle and vibrates in his chest.

"Yeah," Jungwon beams. "The most fun I've had in a while."

Jay smiles with satisfaction. He leans his head down and nuzzles his nose against Jungwon's ear.

"Me too, Jungwonnie," he murmurs.

Jungwonnie. Jay's nickname for the younger boy. He rarely uses it, and when he does, it's always soft and loving and low. It makes Jungwon itch all over.

Tingling, Jungwon squirms, smushing his face into Jay's chest.

"Thanks, Jay hyung," he says, voice muffled. "Thanks for everything."

The tips of Jungwon's ears are red. Jay finds it adorable.

"Of course. Nothing but the best for my Jungwon," Jay responds.

Jungwon's fingers curl in Jay's shirt.

Jay continues rubbing featherlike circles on Jungwon's lower back, and soon, Jungwon falls asleep to the distant sound of sloshing waves. Jay continues reading, chest swelling with untamed warmth, arm wrapped tightly around the boy he loves.

He gazes down at Jungwon with utter fondness.

"Goodnight, Won," he murmurs.

Notes:

Jay is whipped for wonnie hehe :)
