Jaishankar was sitting in the hall reading his project-related files they had their dinner already... He almost finished subconsciously he looked at the other corner where Devagi was sitting on the floor leaning on the wall folding her knees supporting the book she was reading with utmost concentration.....
he took a moment to think about all the changes that happened in his life cycle after her arrival....he gets to eat homemade food which improved his taste buds...as his father brought him up, he learned not to complain about food ever...he wasn't used to a women's presence in his home......now one was living with him all alone that never felt strange to him as it has to be....that surprised as well as perplexed
now he has a daily work time routine which he never had before he doesn't care about the work time but now he comes home before the sky darkens even when he gets carried away by work when he sees the wall clock if it past 6 his mind immediately alerts him that she is alone at home and he have to reach there soon....now someone is there for him waiting for him to come back home and when he come home greets with a relieved and happy smile which takes up his tiredness in a second ...
He has no clue what all this behavior of his indicates. she used to do all house hold works she almost finished reading all the books his father left for him in these 6 months yesterday he took her to an book store and brought her more books she liked.....
she have this habit of narrating the story of the novel or what's her perspective after reading that book to him once she finishes one book and he not only listen to her he also get himself involved in the conversation....they talked for hours in such times.....
he realized neither him nor her talked about their life before each other's meet ,may be they both considered there is nothing worth to share ...in these 6 months he even learned to understand what her silent language too...she actually wont talk much except that time they converse about books and stories other times she would be silent and spoke him one or two words that too anything regarding household works and what to cook or anything he wants that's it as he was busy with his business works he to didn't have much time to notice all this now he was thinking and that surprised and overwhelmed him with numerous feelings and questions which have no answers...
sensing his strong gaze she looked up from the book and that's when he realized how beautiful and expressive her eyes were....its not that he never noticed it....even the first time he saw her in his train seat ...her bewildered eyes imprinted in his mind and how her eyes also tells the story when she narrated to him there have been somedays he was lost in the stories her eyes tells forgetting what her lips muttering .....her slow voice brough him back to the present.....
"Cappy venuma ila Tea"
(Do you want coffee or tea?????)
He shook his head as no she furrowed
"Thaanii"
(water)
he again shook his head as no ..
"Kita vaa"
(come closer )

her eyes widened cluelessly that made him chuckle he spoke

she asked him for assurance he raised his right eyebrow and asked her in stern tone
"Intha veetla una ena thavira vera yarachu irukangla ena....huhh"
(is there anyone present in this house other than me and you....huh....)
she shook her head vigorously as Noo he controlled the smile that was threating to break through....
"Apram ena Vaa inga un kita tha pesanum"

she nodded her head and came towards him and sat on the floor like a good child ...he who was sitting on the wooden sofa furrowed at that action of hers ....
"Oiii mela ukaru "
(Oii sit up )
she didn't looked up at him but shook her head in denial...
"Yeiii ena niminthu paru "
(Yeii look at me )
she obeyed and looked up at him he raised his brows and said
"Una mela ukarunu sonein kathu kekuthu la"
(I asked you to sit up ....your earing ability is fine right )

she muttered in a low voice which is only audible to them...he signed and stood up she got panicked before she do something he also sits on the floor leaving some gap between them ...she was shocked and asked him
"Ena pandreinga "
(what are you doing )
"Na unkuda pesanum nu sona....nee mela vara matein nu adam pudikura athan nane kela vanthutein "
(I said you that I want to speak ..... as you are not coming up I stepped down to your level)
She was about to say something he showed his palm indicating her to stop it right there
"Leave that and yeah this is also comfortable "
he said leaning back on the sofa and in reclined position she turned towards his side and sat in sidesaddle position awaiting for him to speak ...
he looked at her eagerness and signed ...
"why don't you think of studying further ....I can help you for that you know "
she chuckled hearing that ......
"Ethuku serikura huh "
(why are you chuckling now )
she looked at him

(why suddenly this thought of helping me to study further came )

(because you like reading and you also got good marks in 10th so you might have the desire to study further right)
she smiled at him and shook her head lightly ...
"Na SSLC mudichu 5 varusam achu padikura asai lam epovo odi poiduchu thirumba varathu nenga intha idea lam thooki potutu unga velaiya parunga..."
(I finished my SSLC 5 years before and I don't have any wish to study further that was gone long back I can't bring it back ...so leave this ideas and look after your business works )
she said him in a finality tone he took a breath ....
"Nee nala padicha ethachu nala velaiku polam..... 10th padichuruka la vera ethachu velaiku sethu vidava?????"
(You can go to some decent jobs after getting a degree ....even now you already passed 10 I can help you to join a better job)
"Naa ipo unga vetla vela thane seiren "

he signed ....

(You should have a family for yourself right you can't be with me all your life...you have to face this world ...and you would have specific wish and desires right???)
she laughed bitterly ....
"Enaku Valanumdra ename ilama ponapo tha nenga ena patheinga.....ipo enaku ena korai 3 vela sapdrein nala thuni potrukein enakunu oru kattil methai iruka room la thankikurein yarum ena thiturathu ila yarum naa oru anathainu enaku thenamum nyabagam pandrathila ....intha valkaiye enaku oru kalathula peerasai tha ....antha perasaiye neraveruna aparam athuku mela asa pada enaku thonala padavum matein...."
(When you meet me that time I already lost the desire to live ....what less I have now..I am eating three times a day wearing good dress I even have a separate room with a cot and bed for myself no one scolds me here or reminds me daily that I am an orphan .....this life was once my greedy wish ....and I am living that dream I can be more greedy to ask for more and I won't too )
Jaishankar don't know how to reply to that statement of her .....still he tried to divert that topic he doesn't want her to feel sad thinking about her past miseries

she shook her head as no and stood up and moved towards her room he looked at her with confusion

she entered the room and closed the door he furrowed and stood up and moved towards her room and banged the door

he was about to bang it another time but his hand stopped in midway as she opened the door already .....it wasn't opened fully she leaned on the door side and looked at him ....
"Enoda peerasai Nenga tha ......."
(You are my greedy wish)
he was shocked hearing that she smiled sadly and gulped her saliva
"Enaku theriyum ithu perasai kum mela unga veetu velakari unga vetla mattum ila unga valkaila edam kekakudathu athu thapunu en moolaiku theriyum ana manasuku therila...nenga keteinganu tha sonein enga itha vita sola vaipe kedaikathondra bayam atha solitein...... ipadiye ungala pathukite ungaluku thevaiyatha senjitu unga vetu velakariya iruka sona kuda kalam poora santhosama valthuduvein......nenga intha peerasaiya neravetha vena ketathe enaku pothum....."
( I know what I asked was more than a greed....how could your house maid can ask a place in your life along with a place in your home my mind understand this but my heard don't get it .....I said you because you asked me and also due to the fear that I would never get a chance to say this to you ever...If I was given a chance to live this life of your housemaid for the rest of my life I would happily accept and live my life looking at you from far.......you don't have to fulfill this greedy wish of mine ....you heard it that's enough for me...... )
she said all that without raising her head and looking at his eyes as she didn't got any reply from him she took that as rejection tears left her eyes she looked up at him one last time with tear filled eyes he stilled didn't came out of shock she smiled at him with pain and closed the door and leaning on it she slides down and sat on the floor letting the tears flow down
