Eddie
May 12th, Monday May 12th came. I turned in a shit load of work today for as many classes as I could, I had late work and begged Mrs. O'DONNELL for any extra credit. It's kind of indescribable how something can change your priorities so much.
Annie's appointment was at 3:30. I drove, I wouldn't say I was nervous? Maybe I was excited? Maybe anxious is the right word... but not in a bad way. We got to the office and waited to be called back. I held Annie's hand then they called her back. The nurse did all the regular height and weight stuff then we waited for the doctor. God why is there so much waiting.
Finally the Doctor comes in. She smiles introduces herself as Dr. Randall. She seems friendly but Annie stays pretty quite. The Doctor washes her hands hold a hand out to shake mine.
"Are you dad?" she asked me with a smile.
"Yeah, Eddie. Nice to meet you." Shit here I am "dad"
"Ok Andromeda, so your date of birth is March 30th 1968. Do you know the first day of your last period?" she asked.
"Umm, you know I had it written down, but I forgot to look. I am about 90% sure of the date of conception though. March 30th 1986." Annie said.
"Oh well, Okay! Happy Birthday! Hope it was a good one." The Doctor said. I sat there hoping that she meant the whole day was good... not just the sex.
"Yeah, it was a really good birthday." Annie Smiled at me.
"So, Andromeda, how are things going so far? Any questions or anything you want to share?"
"You can call me Annie if you want to." She told the Doctor then let out a sigh "There is something, I guess. I had a miscarriage last year..." Annie.
"Oh, Annie I'm so sorry to hear that." The Doctor said taking a note on Annie's chart.
"Thank you, I was... in a bad relationship... he was abusive. Things are better now." Annie said.
"Okay, I'm glad. Thank you for sharing." Dr. Randall walked across the room and wheeled over a little machine. "Lay back for me Annie and lift up your shirt just a little bit for me, Perfect. This might be a little cold." She squeezed out some goop onto Annie's belly and turned on her machine moving it around. All of a sudden we hear rapid, rapid thumping.
"there's the little one!" the Doctor said.
"What?" I stood up and held Annie's hand.
"Yeah! That's your baby's heartbeat."
"Wow. That's. Wow." My eyes got really big. This was really real.
Later that night Annie called me.
"Hey babe." I said.
"hey. I wanted to say thanks again for taking me today." Annie said.
"of course. It was really crazy to hear the baby today. Like there's really a baby in there. I'm really glad I went." I said.
"yeah." I could hear her smiling through the phone. "Sooooooo Is there anything you've been wanting to ask me?"
"that seems kind of like a trick question babe... what do you want me to ask you?" I asked.
"Oh my god to prom dummy!" she said.
"Oh fuck. I uh haven't really thought about prom at all. There's been so much other stuff going on. So you really wanna go?" I asked.
"well yeah I wanna go. Only If you want want to though." She said.
"I mean I hadn't planned on it. I really need to spend money on other stuff. I need to get a bench seat for the van so we can bring the baby home. I don't know babe... we've got a baby coming you know?" I said.
"fine..." she said. She was pissed. Again. Great.
She hung up and I slammed the phone down on the receiver, rolling my eyes.

"Well, it looks like I'm in the dog house again." I told Robert the next day.
"What happened now?" He asked.
"Oh I didn't ask her to Prom. She wants to go and I don't really think we should spend money on a bunch of bull shit prom shit when we have a baby coming." I said.
He just looked at me for a second and sighed. "let Me talk to her. Maybe she can wear a dress that she already has and you can just wear something nice that you wear in the office..." Robert said.
Annie
"Ugh! DAD! A dress I already have? Dad it doesn't even matter anyway. He doesn't want to go." I said to dad as I sat on the foot of my bed.
"Andromeda. Knock off the attitude." I sat there with my mouth hanging open. "he's not just being an ass hole, he's trying to make sure everything's taken care of. I'm trying to help come up with a compromise so you both get what you want." Dad said.
He turned around and walked out of my room. Mom came in the next minute with a smile.
"come on honey let's see what we can come up with." She said
I walked over to my closet and dug in the back. Pulling out 3. There was a turquoise, a hot pink and a red.
"Do you think these are going to fit Mom?" I asked.
"I think you'll be fine honey." She said.
The first one was fine but not really what I was thinking, the red one was strapless and actually zipped all the way up. I wasn't really showing yet but my boobs were bigger. I've been wearing pretty baggy stuff lately.
"Oh Honey that looks nice! And you can wear your black pumps! I think that will be good and prom's two weeks away so everything should still fit."
I smiled. This would be alright.
The next day I pulled up to school and parked next to Eddie. He was finishing his cigarette.
"Sorry I was being kind of a Bitch the other day. You're right. We don't have to spend a lot of money..."
He sighed. "I forgive you babe. I know our lives are different from what we thought... I'm just re prioritizing. If going to prom is gonna make you happy then we will go to prom." He leaned down and kissed me on the head.
The next Friday Veronica and I went to the mall to get her dress. Gareth of course was super romantic when he asked her, almost cheesy enough to make me barf, luckily my urge to barf has gone way down over the last week. We got to the mall and I threw another life saver in my mouth.
"Annie, I swear you've been popping those life savers non stop for weeks now." Veronica said.
"They're really great! The lime ones are my favorite, here have one." I said passing her the roll.
I picked up Eddie a red tie that would match my dress then we make our way to the formal dresses in the department store. She tried on five. She liked the pink one that was longer on one side than the other with the really puffy sleeves and the bow in the back.
"That one is fantastic! Aww my Veronica! You look like a princess!" I said almost welling up with tears.
"Thank you! I'm so excited! This is going to be the best night!" she started to put her clothes on "I didn't get to go last year, well because no one asked me..."
"Well! You are going this year!" I said excitedly.
"You sure you don't want to try anything on?" she asked.
"No. I'm good." I said.
"you look super comfy today by the way." She said.
"Thanks." I kind of chuckled, I had on leggings, a white t shirt and a big denim jacket that used to be my dad's. my hair was in a half up half down with a big purple scrunchy. I still wasn't showing but clothes were starting to feel less like my friend. I slurped down the last bit of my smoothie. "hey, do you wanna get some pizza before we leave?"
"Sure." She laughed.
We decided to drop in on Hellfire before I took her home. We walked in to hooting and hollering and dice being thrown. We got a little side eye from Jeff.
"I know... we're interrupting. I come baring gifts though!" I said, setting down some chips.
Veronica walked over to Gareth and hugged him. They said something to each other and he kiss her hand. I sat on the arm of Eddie's chair and he put his arm around me, gently resting his hand on my thigh.
"Did you guys eat when you were out?" Eddie asked.
"Shoot, did we eat? Annie's been eating everything! She's practically killed a bag of pretzels in the car, and had a smoothie and a pizza!" Veronica said.
"Yeah. I guess I was kind of hungry today." I said.
Eddie moved his other hand to my tummy and smiled at me. I smiled back but then I got nervous knowing all the attention was probably on us.
"Ok guys I guess we'll leave you to it. I'm gonna take Veronica home and I'll see you at the trailer when you get done." I said before kissing Eddie on the cheek.
Little girls think of their senior prom as some magical thing, the dress, your hair, the corsage, your date... I never thought I'd be pregnant. Here we are though, oh well, it'll make for a good story to tell the little one some day.
I picked up Veronica up from her hair appointment and we were going to finish getting ready together. I hadn't got my hair done and I had popped my acrylic nails off shortly after I found out I was pregnant so I just painted then with some red polish.
Veronica did her makeup as I did my hair. I blew it out extra big with a ton of hair spray and pinned back one side with a sparkly clip. My make up was really good too. Blue eye shadow, crazy amount of blush.
I zipped Veronica up in her dress and snapped a picture of her, my princess best friend.
I pulled on my panty hose and stepped into my dress. Veronica tried to zip me up but it was tight.
"Mom!" I called. "can we get an extra set of hands. Mom came in and between the two of them got it zipped.
I let out a Sigh.
"You ok Annie?" Veronica asked.
"yeah, yeah. I'm fine." I said.
Mom left the room.
"Annie are you sure you're OK? I feel like you've been acting differently lately." Veronica said.
"yeah..." I said.
"You know you can tell me anything right?" she said.
"I know." I said with a smile.
We went out to the living room and mom snapped a couple more pictures.
Then the door bell rang.
Eddie
Robert answered the door and Gareth and I came in.
"Ladies! I found a couple of good looking gentlemen on our door step! I think they're here for you!" Robert shouted.
The girls came over and giggled at how fancy we looked.
Annie looked fantastic. She didn't need a new dress. She was beautifully fucking sexy. Red looks gorgeous on her. I was wearing boots, black slacks a black button down the red tie and my leather jacket of course. We had got the little wrist flowers for the girls and Annie pinned the little one on my jacket. Gareth had gone all out and rented a suit with a pink tie that matched Veronicas dress, I guess his mom was excited that he was wearing real clothes. We posed for some pictures and Robert re entered the room.
"Eddie come here." He beckoned me into the hall way. He held our some keys I had never seen before.
"These, are the Keys to my Lincoln." He goes go hand them to me, then snatches them back. "No drinking or getting stoned while driving my Lincoln. You will be driving around My baby who is carrying your baby in my other baby. You will be responsible."
"Yes Sir." I said. I had seen the white Lincoln in the garage, but I had only seen Robert drive it a couple times and I had never been inside.
"Good. Now have a great time." He smiled at me handing me the keys.
The girls were so excited to be taking the nice car. It drove way better than the van too. Robert keeps it In really good shape.
The girls were so excited when we got there. They found Nancy and Robin and danced a little bit. Gareth and I kinda hung back until they needed us. We took MORE pictures but it made Annie happy. This is what tonight is really about anyway. Our lives are going to be a lot different soon and she deserves to have a good time.
I walked up behind her, placing my hands on her hips as a slow song came on.
"Hi beautiful." I gently whispered in her ear. She put her hands on mine and held me close. She turned around to face me, putting her hands around my neck.
"Hey Handsome." She said.
We swayed back and forth to the music.
"Thank you for this. Thank you so much for everything Eddie. Thank you for putting up with me." She said.
I chuckled "look who you're talking to, I'm a lot too. I do it because I love you baby. Always, no matter what." I leaned in and kissed her.
I felt a tear hit my hand as I held her face. "Hey now pretty girl, you don't need to cry, your gonna mess up your make up." I chuckled at her.
"I know." She said as I wiped it away, "I Just... Love you so much."
"I love you too baby."
After the dance we went out to the parking lot. We were parked kinda far out, mainly because I didn't want any of the dumbasses here dinging up her dads car, but it gave us some privacy. Annie had my jacket on over her shoulders and she had leaned on the car a little bit. Then she looked up at me and looked at our friends.
"So... Friends" she said taking my hand "We have something to tell you.... I am pregnant."
Veronica Gasped throwing her hands up to cover her mouth. "Annie..."
"Please try not to be too disappointed in me. I know I'm going to hell." Annie Laughed.
"No! Oh Gosh! I'm Surprised but Oh Gosh! No! I knew something was up! No, I love you!" she said hugging me. "when is the baby coming?"
"I'll be 2 months tomorrow. Baby is due December 22nd"
"Congratulations man?" Gareth asked.
"Yeah." I smiled.
We piled up in the car and dropped off Veronica, Gareth walking her to her door. We then took Gareth home and made our way back to the house.
"You want me to Stay here tonight babe?" I asked her sweetly as we stood in her room.
"I'd love that." She smiled loosening my tie.
I went to her dresser got her some PJs, "Let me help you get out of this dress baby."
She turned around and I unzipped her. She let out a long sigh and wiggled out. I gently rubbed her shoulders. She pushed down her panty hoes and got in her PJs.
"Eddie I'm tired." She pouted. "can I just go to bed."
"Of Course babe. I'm gonna tuck you In then I'm gonna go smoke." I smiled
When I got into bed she pulled my arm around her.
"I hope you had a good night Annie. I know It probably wasn't the senior prom you had always dreamed of." I said.
She snuggled into me closer. "It was... because I got to go with you."
