What type of ironic timing was this ? Both Natsu's duo and Lucy's team carriage both stopped at the same time in front of the guild.
As soon as they both exited, they caught each other's eyes and Lucy couldn't handle the sight of him any longer and quickly headed back into the crowded guild, she hoped that she can blend herself into the crowd. She hoped that he would search for her.
"Luc-"
Gray quickly stopped his best enemy, giving him a dark glare. Gray was giving Lucy the time she needed, was this correct thing to do though ?
"Natsu, leave her alone until you get your thoughts together."
Without another word from either of them, Gray entered the guild again to see his number one fan waiting at the entrance, all ready to greet and congratulate him on his work.
"Good work, Gray-Sama! Don't leave without me ever again!" Juvia pouted and happily locked her arms with Gray's annoyed ones.
The other two females from Lucy's side spared the other silent two a few glances before stumbling back into the loud guild.
Lisanna stayed silent as she knew what Lucy felt for Natsu. She felt the same after all.
Natsu seemed to have snacked his energy away. It was about night time and the male, along with his kitten, was napping in the almost empty guild. This was usual for him to sleep at such a place but today, it was a bit later than usual. Lucy wasn't there to wake him up.
"Natsu, wake up."
Luckily, Mirajane noticed that he was still loudly snoring here. She was staying a back a bit later than usual as well, trying to clean up the mess left behind by the guild's party today.
"Lucy!"
Natsu seemed to have shout out randomly, he was still half asleep after all but the woke up with a jerk and quiet stare at his surroundings.
"Lucy? ..What about Lucy?"
Mira was anxious to hear Natsu's explanation on this but Natsu quickly apologized to her, grabbed his partner, and dashed out the guild.
Maybe Mirajane even knows about what Lucy thinks.
"Does he even know what he did to her..?"
Why did he have to be here, late at night ? Natsu was now right in front of Lucy Heartifilia's apartment. He took his sweet time, thinking about Gray's words and about his mistakes. He realized the basic things he has done but he still doesn't understand. He needs Lucy's side of the story.
Not sparing another second for another thought, he pressed his finger against the doorbell. Lucy, on the other hand, opened the door without thinking.
"Who visits now-?" Lucy complained.
"Lucy, can we-"
With the simple sight of Natsu, Lucy reacted by slamming the door in his face and pressed her back against the wooden door, frightened to even look the other in the eye. Don't even talk about talking to him.
"Lucy?!"
"No.." Lucy shook her head in oblivion, in blind refusal. Tears wanted to burst out of her chocolate eyes; tears of rage and jealously. She really didn't want to face the other right now, it was too painful to even spare a glance at him.
"Lucy..I understand now." Natsu felt like he was talking to himself by this point but he waited for an answer.
"Understand what?!" Lucy's response ended up quick but rude and loud. Natsu quickly flinched at her response, Lucy was usually like this but this time it pained him to hear her tone like that.
Was this the right time to say something ? That thing ? Natsu thought about this and recited it in his head at least a million times, he had to let it out. No matter what.
"I like you. A lot."
Lucy sat there in shock, how was she suppose respond to such a daring statement? Was it true ? That's probably all Lucy worried about. Standing up, she sucked up her courage and thought it would be better to say it face to face.
"C-Come in..."
They both silently sat in Lucy's familiar room, the silence and intensity between them was strong and awkward. Lucy decided to break that silence.
"Natsu, I want to hear it again."
"I-I love you, actually!"
Natsu couldn't hold it back anymore, color started to fill his face. He blushing furiously and Lucy couldn't help but blush as well, she missed Natsu's face so much. Even if it was just for only one day with him.
"N-Not Lisanna?" Lucy took the chance to ask this daring question, she wanted to know if this love was true as she wanted it to be.
"No. You, Lucy." It was such a straightforward a simple answer but it made Lucy so much more flattered and flustered than expected. It made her feel good about herself.
There's only one problem, Lucy knows how Lisanna would react to this situation. Guilt started to bubble up in her stomach already.
"Don't leave Lisanna dumbfounded at least.."
"I'm not letting her heart be broken as well!"
Things would turn out okay soon, they always do. So, Natsu decided to leave that problem somewhere else and let it take care of itself.
"Everybody will figure out eventually, right?"
The guilt was a bit too much for Lucy to handle, how did Natsu simply push problems to the side like that? Lucy wanted to let out all of her thoughts, so she did.
"Do you know how heartbroken I was every time you weren't with me? How many times you were always the reason..You're reckless, nice, strong, protective, and you lack knowledge.."
"But, that's why I-I love you.."
It was like instinct or Natsu just read the mood correctly but he gently pulled his love into his arms, it felt nice for it to be filled up with someone he loved.
"Forgive me.." He wanted forgiveness for his mistakes. He knew what he did wrong and what he failed to do. He needed forgiveness.
"If that's how you want it to be.." Lucy simply replied back.
The next morning, everything was basically normal. It was like nothing happened yesterday, that's how it should be anyway.
"Gosh..Natsu, did you even sleep last night?"
Lucy complained but added a happy chuckle at the end, she was doing her usual job and watched the other two silently sleep their calories away.
"Lucy..sorry.." The way he talked in his sleep, Lucy couldn't help it but smile brightly at him. Even if he wasn't looking.
Gray was silently observing the other two, along with a scarlet and blue head by his side. He didn't exactly show it but..he felt happy for the two.
"Looks like things went back to normal, huh?"
Erza smiled happily and nodded in agreement, she felt proud of Lucy, that she was able to overcome her problems on her own somehow.
"That's how it should be."
The youngest one brightly smiled and chuckled at how happy Lucy looked, she always admired the other. It made her happy to see that she was happy.
They weren't the only ones that noticed on how things turned out. Apparently, Natsu made his choice and it turned out that she wasn't the one after all. Lisanna wanted to hide for the rest of her life but now all she could do is hide her dark emotions.
"Natsu.."
She whispered his name, one last time.
