A\N I am giving this chapter a trigger warning as it does contain a graphic rescue towards the end of the chapter so if you feel uncomfortable with depictions of blood and gore feel free to skip this chapter. Since this is an author's note I am going to remind you to vote and/or comment if you are enjoying this story.

It has been a couple of hours since then and I am currently on the phone to Andrew. Since it is quiet for the both of us Andrew decided to call me out of the blue. Of course, the others were surprised that Someone from Grey Sloan has my number. Luckily for me, I was able to escape before they could ask questions.

"I'm telling you Andrew the only free days I have are Tomorrow and Wednesday. Actually, you know what. I'll pick you up from Grey Sloan then we will grab dinner," I announce. Before he can respond the signal bell goes.

"I'm sorry Andrew. Duty calls. Please text me if that plan is ok," I Say before hanging up. With that out of the way, I make a beeline towards the ambulance. I realise that the others are going to have questions but I am going to ignore them until I know what is going on. Unfortunately, it is an all-hands-on-deck situation. We are the second on scene.

"Captain Sullivan, do you have a couple of paramedics that you could spare?" the captain from station 23 asks as he approaches us.

"O'Malley, Montgomery. Join Captain Emerson," With that, we turn our attention to the other captain.

"What can we do for you, Cap?" I ask.

"I need you two in the building. A teenager is having seizures. Make sure you sub in and be careful," The captain warns us. After giving us the location we don our breathing apparatuses. I always hate them. They just feel claustrophobic. Which is weird for me as I've never suffered from claustrophobia. Anyway, I shake the feeling off as I have a job to do. I take a deep breath as I follow Travis in. The first thing that I notice is the blazing heat. Even through our turnout gear, the heat is intense. After a couple of minutes, we reached our patient.

"Captain Emerson sent us to sub for you," I announce.

"How long has she been down?" I add for good measure.

"Five minutes. We've done the best we can," one of the other firefighters responds. Like me, he is not happy about the situation. After double checking we are safe Travis and I get to work. After a minute the girl stops seizing.

"What happened? She asks as she comes around.

"You had a seizure but you are okay now," I filled her in. She looks concerned.

"The last thing I remember is that we were evacuating the building," She starts panicking.

"It's ok. That's why we are here. My name is Erin and he is Travis. We are going to get you out of here," I add for good measure. Before we can move her I notice the roar of the fire go quiet. My instincts kick in. I cover the girl's body to the best of my abilities. Travis covers the rest of her as the flashover runs over us. I can feel the heat nipping at my legs. As soon as it started it was over.

"Are you ok?" I check on the girl as I pick myself up.

"I think I'm ok. My name is Ella by the way," She says as Travis and I help her up.

"Erin to IC we are ok. We are bringing the patient out," I inform them via the radio.

"Copy that," Captain Emerson responds. After what feels like an eternity we finally leave the building. As soon as we get Ella on the stretcher disaster strikes. I instinctively start the timer on my smartwatch.

"Travis I'm going to administer Nayzilam. Make sure she is safe," I say as I begin the search for the right medication. Luckily it doesn't take long for me to find what I am looking for. Now that I have what I am looking for I rejoin Travis.

"Can you hold her head still without making things worse," I ordered. I need to make sure she doesn't hurt herself or myself. After a tense few seconds, I administer the medication. After yet another eternity Ella's seizure stops. I quickly stopped my timer. Two minutes. As soon as it does we load her into the ambulance. Luckily for us, it doesn't take long for us to get to Grey Sloan. We are met by a team of doctors. Just in time as well as Ella has started seizing again.

"This is her third seizure today. Nayzilam was administered on the scene," Travis passes on the required information. After a minute and our help, the doctors transferred a now relaxed Ella. After double-checking if Ella is comfortable we turn our attention to the paperwork. As per usual I am doing it while pacing. It is proving to be a useful skill. I can feel the looks from Travis.

"You know I'm okay right?" I remark as I double-check the paperwork.

"I just thought you hated Grey Sloan," Travis responds as I hand the paperwork to one of the nurses.

"I do hence the pacing but I also have a job to do," I counter as I beeline back to the ambulance. Travis is quick to catch up.

"Aid car nineteen what's your status?" Captain Emerson asks via the radio.

"We are on our way back," I responded.

"Copy. Be advised you will need lights and sirens. A situation has developed," Captain Emerson fills me in.

"Copy," I acknowledge as I flick on the lights and sirens. After an interesting few minutes, we arrived back at the scene. I soon see why Captain Emerson told us to put the lights and sirens on. Triage is a mess. As soon as our boots hit the ground I turn my attention to Captain Emerson.

"What the hell happened?" I ask.

"An idiot got mad because he doesn't understand how triage works," Jack answers. I turn to him and notice what looks like a massive bruise underneath his right eye.

"So where is the guy?" I tentatively ask.

"Sedated and on his way to Grey Sloan. I needed you here quickly because one of our firefighters was badly injured in the fight. He was impaled. He was pushed and he fell onto the tool he had in his hand. I thought you could take a look given your experience," Captain Emerson fills me in as I prepare for the care of the patient. I turn my attention to the downed firefighter. He is lying on the ground with his back facing up. The tool is embedded in his chest.

"We also didn't want to move him until you got here," He adds.

"Travis can you get me a few wound dressings and a lot of wound packing. I also need some help to get him on his side," I take charge. After the longest thirty seconds of my life, Travis has everything I need. With that, I do my best to secure the tool.

"Ok, on three we carefully move him to his side so I can better secure the tool," I commanded. Three of the other firefighters move into position.

"One, Two, Three," With my orders the three firefighters carefully get the downed firefighter on his side. It was at that moment I noticed something that was not good. Well, I just have to make sure I do a good job of securing the tool. After what feels like an eternity I have the tool as secure as I can get it. Hopefully, it is enough. On my cue, the others Lay him on a spine board. After a tense minute, we have him on the gurney.

"I'm driving," Travis announces.

"Make sure you drive as smoothly as possible. I can't guarantee that my packing job will hold," I counter as we load him onto the ambulance. After a minute of driving disaster strikes. The ambulance gets jostled by something. As soon as it does the tool comes loose. Blood starts pouring everywhere. I have no choice. I have to clamp whichever artery is bleeding with my fingers.

"Travis, how long have we got till we get to Grey Sloan?" I ask as I climb on top of the patient.

"Four minutes why?" Travis asks.

"Dammit. Whatever shook the ambulance loosened the tool which nicked an artery. I'm using my fingers as a clamp," I say as I take a deep breath. Remember what George showed you. I reach my hand in and thankfully I am able to find the bleeder. I squeeze it carefully. I try my best to block out the sensation of having my hand stuffed in someone's chest. In fact, the artery that was nicked was so close to the heart that I could feel it beat. At least he has a relatively strong heartbeat. After the longest three minutes of my life, we arrived at Grey Sloan. As soon as Travis gets the door open we are met by the doctors.

"Twenty nine you old male. Impalement to the chest. Unfortunately, the object came loose. My hand is the thing stopping him from bleeding out," I announce as I feel the gurney move underneath me. It is at that moment I notice a few familiar faces. The next thing I hear is a babble of instructions.
