Winter.
Kai and Yeonjun sat by the fire. Each had a nintendo switch in their hand and a cup of hot chocolate by their side. They were now racing each other in mario kart after an hour of animal crossing. Kai started yelling when he was hit with a blue shell. He blamed Yeonjun but it was really an NPC. The gaming system knocked over his cup of cocoa when he threw it out of anger.
Yeonjun jokingly scolded him. He never really got mad at his husband. Kai never gave him a reason to be.
Wind whipped through the trees outside on their front yard. They lived in a small house in the subarbs. Snow began to lightly float down onto the grass. Winter was always Yeonjun's favorite season. The light reflecting off of the snow always made Kai's skin seem to glow. One winter his hair was black. Yeonjun insisted on putting a red shade of lip gloss on him. He looked like the essence of Snow White. That gloss was kissed right off of his lips. Smears ended up on the base of their hips and on their necks. Yeonjun grinned at the memory.
Kai finished cleaning his mess. He sat back down with the nintendo in his hand and looked over. Yeonjun was looking at him funny. "What? Did I not clean it well enough?"
"Look outside."
The blonde looked out to see the snow building up on the window sills. He was mildly confused. "It's pretty? It's cold! It's... white? Is this a game?"
Yeonjun giggled as he took his hand. "It's the first snowfall of the year."
Kai looked at him and finally realized what he was thinking. He went into their bedroom to grab the red lip gloss. When he found it, he ran back. Kai twisted the cap off then teased it in the air. "I guess you can be Snow White now."
Yeonjun smacked the lip gloss out of his hands. He pinned Kai to the floor then climbed on top of him.
Kai said "wait!"
"What?"
"That was expensive!"
Yeonjun ripped the blonde's shirt open. "I'll buy a new one. Do you want to have sex or not?!"
Kai harshly grabbed the back of his neck to pull him downwards. He made a dark hickey on his neck while his fingertips traced the opening of his jeans. Yeonjun was fully hard by the time his lips pulled away. The blonde smirked as he slipped his husband's pants off. "What the fuck do you think?"
Spring.
Their anniversary was coming up. Kai wasn't the planning type but this was for Yeonjun.
He had an expensive lunch reservation for a brazilian restaurant on the water. A private patio table was specifically requested so they could sit under the magnolia trees. Yeonjun always looked so pretty in and near pink.
Next came VIP tickets to Jonas Brothers concert. They got access to the sound check and a backstage tour. If Kai got really lucky, they would get to meet the band.
The end of the night would be spent in the luxury suite of a hotel. There was a couple of new things that he wanted to try. It was a perfectly planned surprise.
Yeonjun had his own planned.
He was going to take them on another equally expensive lunch. This restaurant was modern high class americana. Large blue curtains draped the 10 foot tall windows. White table cloths and blue velvet chairs. Blue was really Kai's color.
Next was club seats to a Liverpool FC game. He also booked an exclusive private tour of the stadium before the start.
The perfect day would be finished off at a romantic spa, coincidentally, at the same hotel Kai booked.
Yeonjun presented his itinerary to Kai first thing in the morning. He kept staring at his face with giddy. The giddy dropped when he didn't get an excited reaction from the blonde. "Baby? What's wrong? Do you hate it?!"
"No! I just..." Kai whipped out his phone to show him his itinerary. "We should really coordinate in the future."
Yeonjun became giddy again. "Do you see what I see honey?"
"What? The bill? You weren't supposed to see that!"
"No babe! The times! We can make all of these plans!"
Kai compared both of their phones. They could make the concert if they left the game early. The lunches, however, were a slight problem. They were an hour apart. "Honey, I can just call the restaurant and reschedule it. It's really not a big deal."
Yeonjun kissed him deeply then pulled back with a large grin. "Mine is first. We can have appetizers at mine then the main course at yours!"
"What? It's like a 20 minute walk to the other restaurant! We would literally have to eat and drink quickly, run, pray we don't throw up on the run, then beg to be still let in the door because we would barge in like sweaty idiots!"
"Yeah it sounds like fun doesn't it?!"
Kai couldn't help but cave in. Yeonjun was batting his eyelashes with adorable enthusiasm. "It sounds perfect. Happy almost anniversary sweetheart."
Summer.
Yeonjun was sweating his ass off in his office. Their AC broke. He had a very lengthy conversation with their contractors. It involved a lot of swearing including the phrase "get your ass over here and fix it!" He was too good at his job to be fired but he did get a warning.
Kai stopped by with some flowers. He walked in to feel a sudden rush of heat in the lobby. It felt worse in the building than it did outside. All of the windows were backfiring on them. It was like a sauna.
He made his way to Yeonjun's office to see him arguing with a contractor. The contractor threatened to get him fired. Yeonjun dared him to do it. Kai had to move out of the way for their bosses to mediate.
The two were seperated and Yeonjun was forced to go on his lunch early. He was actually told to take the day off but that wasn't going to happen. Yeonjun looked up to see his husband holding a bouquet of sunflowers. "Hi baby! It's so nice to be around someone who ISN'T AN INCOMPETENT JACKASS!"
Kai turned around to see the contractor giving him the middle finger. He forced down a laugh then handed the flowers over. "I can't stay long. I'm sorry you're stuck in this..."
Yeonjun wiped the sweat off of his face. He took a bunch of tissues and started to dab his hairline next. "This is hell. The flowers are beautiful! Thank you baby. Do you still have to work late tonight?"
"Yeah... I'm sorry. The partners are coming in tomorrow. I need to make sure everything is ready."
"But you have this weekend off?"
Kai gently dabbed Yeonjun's forehead then kissed it. "Yes sweetheart. I have this weekend off. Please don't plan something big for my birthday."
"Then I wouldn't be the person you fell in love with!"
"That's true. I need to go. I love you Yeonjun. I'll see you tonight okay?"
Yeonjun kissed him goodbye. The sunflowers went into a vase. They replaced the ones Kai got him last week. He loved his husband with his whole heart. That loving feeling was pushed aside when he heard a spark from one of the pillars. The entire building lost power for a couple minutes until the backup generator kicked in. Yeonjun yelled "THAT'S IT! I'M GOING HOME!"
The moment he got home, he took a cold shower. When he stepped out, he made sure his reservations were secured. A weekend getaway at a cabin seemed close to perfect. Spending the entire weekend, naked, with his favorite person in the world, would complete it.
When the weekend came, Yeonjun made sure this would be a birthday to remember. Kai promised to do the same when Yeonjun's birthday came around.
Autumn.
The leaves on the maple trees were ombres of red, orange, yellow and purple. The temperature floated between 50-60 degrees fahrenheit. Yeonjun was bundled in a thick sweater and tight sweatpants. Kai wore a thin long sleeve and track pants as they walked through Manchester.
They were on the way to an open house. A second home seemed like a good investment. One of Kai's partners insisted they own multiple properties to increase their networth. Neither of them cared about their networth but they had nothing better to do. The house was beautiful. It was a rare one that wasn't attached to another house on either side. Yeonjun saw the joy in Kai's eyes as the tour progressed. He bought it the next day.
At home, he was resting his head on Kai's lap as the blonde reviewed reports. He patiently waited for him to be done with work. The key was waiting to be revealed in his pocket. He kept dramatically looking up, hoping to telepathically get the message across.
Kai kept staring at his reports. He smiled at how cute his husband looked in his lap. Finally, he gave in. "Yes baby?"
"Oh... nothing..."
"Alright." Kai went back to looking at his reports.
Yeonjun sat up and pouted. "Baby!"
Kai giggled. "Yes?"
"I have something really important to tell you!"
"And that is?"
Yeonjun proudly held the key up. "I bought it! I bought the house! It's bigger than our current one too and it's closer to work!"
"Wow..." Kai was speechless. He fell in love with that house because he saw their future in that house. Three bedrooms. Two bathrooms. Plenty of storage. More room than they knew what to do with. Kai didn't doubt that one of those rooms would be turned into Yeonjun's second closet. He stared at his husband dumbfounded. "I love it! But what made you buy it?"
"I saw how happy you looked. Your eyes gave away that you were in deep thought."
"My eyes say that much?"
"It took me a year to memorize all of your signs Kai. You were really happy in that house. I wanted that to continue..."
"You're perfect." Kai looked at the little key in his hand. He saw Yeonjun's reflection in it. "I want you to be happy too! Will you be happy there?"
"Yes." Yeonjun looked deep into his eyes. "I figured one of the bedrooms could be for a baby... you know... if you want."
"You've thought about stuff like that?"
"We've been together for four years. We love each other. We both have more money than we know what to do with. I'm ready..."
Kai looked at the key and then his wedding ring. He had never entertained the idea of a child before. It took him a moment to process the bomb that was just dropped on him. When the dust settled, he realized he loved that idea. "How many kids are you thinking?"
Yeonjun was delighted to see the idea twinkle in his eye. "Three? Hopefully we get a boy and a girl. I don't really care though."
"Imagine if we got all boys. The chaos!"
"Wouldn't have a dull moment though. So we're really doing this? Moving then starting a family?!"
Kai kissed him with the biggest smile on his lips. "We're doing this!"
They were completely moved in by winter.
Surrogates were chosen by spring.
By summer, they already had two kids on the way.
Fall was when they finished preparing the baby's bedroom. They found out they were having two girls. One was going to be named Lily, the other named Natalia. Kai put all of his plushies in the baby room. It hurt to give some of them up but Yeonjun assured him the girls would love them just as much as he did.
Winter was right around the corner. Their babies were set to be born any week now. Kai came home from work exhausted. He threw his bag to the side then himself on the couch.
Yeonjun collapsed on top of him. "Rough day?"
"Just long. I guess I should be getting used to it."
"Anything you wanna do before we never get a second alone again?"
Kai started to sit up. "Actually, yeah. There is one thing."
"What's that?"
"Have one last night with our friends. Just the five of us."
"Beomgyu is going to be such an interesting uncle."
Kai laughed loudly at the thought. "At least the girls will be tired after. Easy bedtime."
"That's true."
Thanksgiving came around. It was just the five of them. It was the first time in months they were all together. Taehyun gave them tips on raising a child. He was happily married with one of his own.
Beomgyu was in a serious relationship. They had just moved in together.
Soobin just got out of one. He was a bit of a mess.
None of them could believe they were adults. They reminisced about the old days where they were just young idiots running around London. It was the perfect ending to the next chapter of their lives.
Kai's and Yeonjun's new one started in winter. Natalia was born in January. Lily was born in February. It was never easy but it was always worth it. Raising kids didn't split them apart like they've heard so many times. It only brought them closer together.
