You sidestep a tree and continue your mad dash through the heavily wooded forest. Bullets pierce the ground by your feet, motivating you to move faster.
"(Y/n), you there?" Steve's voice cracks through the comm.
"Yeah, I'm here. You alright?" You ask breathlessly, coming to a small clearing that breaks off onto a cliff.
"Just peachy!" He answers.
You run to the edge and look over. If you fell from this hight, you'd definitely break your neck.
"Hey, Steve? I'm in a bad spot," You say, quickly turning around when the men that had been chasing you come to a stop.
"Hold on, (Y/n), we're coming your way!"
Part of the cliff breaks off as you step back. "God, I cannot wait until we're done with this mission."
"Me too. Last mission before vacation always feels longer,"
Just then, a car pulls up and the HYDRA agents begin shooting at it.
"(Y/n)!" Steve shouts, jumping out of the car and blocking the bullets with his shield.
"Steve-" You step forward to run to him, but the end seems to have had enough of your weight and drops under your feet.
Seeing this, Steve cries out as you fall. "(Y/n)!"
Once the agents had fallen, Steve scrambles to the edge and holds his breath as he looks over. He nearly falls to his knees when he sees you barley hanging onto a tree branch.
"Steve!" You shriek, your grip on the branch slipping as you look down.
"(Y-Y/n), hang on! Natasha, I need some rope!"
Maybe it was seconds or minuets later, Steve threw you down a rope.
"Grab it! I'll pull you up!"
You tried to reach out a grab it, but the branch snapped when your fingers just grazed the material.
"No!" Steve screamed, watching helplessly as you fell through the air.

Crashing to his knees, Steve stares down at your broken and bruised body. Never in his life, had he wanted to cry so badly.
"I'm sorry, Steve." Natasha says, walking up to him and placing a hand on his shoulder.
"I was going to propose when we completed the mission," Steve murmured, brushing a piece of hair out of your face.
Blood trailed out of your nose, making Steve's lip quiver as he pulled out the black box that contained your ring. Slowly, he pushes it onto your finger and laid your hand on your unmoving chest.
"God, I'm sorry," Natasha whispered, wiping away the tears forming in her eyes.
He smiles sadly. "She's in a better place now,"
After he's placed a final kiss on your cold lips, he stands and leaves the scene.
