"Where the hell do you think you're going?!"
Kai threw his stuff into a small duffel bag. He has had it. This was the last straw. "I'm going to my parent's house. It's over."
"I didn't mean it! I swear! He meant nothing to me!"
Kai scoffed as he threw his underwear into the bag.
Beomgyu tossed the bag onto the bed. "Baby stop! It was a mistake! I thought I'd lost you!"
"A mistake?! A mistake is spilling coffee onto the floor. It is NOT having sex with someone! You knew exactly what you were doing the whole time! You thought you lost me? You didn't before. Now you have!"
"Please believe me when I say it won't happen again!" Beomgyu held the bag back, away from the blonde's reach. They had a stupid fight. He told his friend about it. Next thing he knew, they were having sex. He told himself to stop but his body wanted it. It mistook lust for the love he thought he lost. Now he truly lost the only person he had ever loved. "I swear he meant nothing to me!"
Kai snapped. "CLEARLY I DON'T EITHER." His voice started to break but he refused to give Beomgyu the satisfaction of seeing him cry. "I told you my ex meant nothing to me! And what do you do? You went and FUCKED SOMEONE ELSE! YOU... you wasted a whole year of my life." He tried grabbing the bag from his ex's hand but found it held out of his reach again.
"Can we please talk about this?!"
"No! I knew that guy had a crush on you too! I told you exactly how uncomfortable I felt around him and of course, HE WAS THE ONE YOU RUN TO!"
"KAI STOP! BABY PLEASE LISTEN TO ME!"
"GIVE ME THE BAG!" Kai gave up. Everything in that bag could be replaced. That shit could burn for all he cared. He hoped it did as he turned towards the front door.
Beomgyu set the bag down to chase after him. He grabbed his hand and pleaded "Kai listen to me! Please!"
The blonde snapped. "Want to know what the worst part was? You didn't even tell me! HE did! He had more respect for our relationship than you!"
"I swear I was going to tell you!" Beomgyu's lip quivered. He saw the love leave his boyfriend's eyes. One stupid mistake ruined everything for him. He searched his face but the love was gone. His was more present than ever. "I was going to tell you... please take me back... how am I supposed to live without you Kai? I... I can't lose you!"
The blonde saw him crying. It hurt because he could feel his pain as his heart tightened in his chest.
But what his ex did hurt him worse. His entire life shattered when Yeonjun told him what they did when they ran into each other on the street. He said he was sorry he took advantage of Beomgyu in his misery. The guilt was eating him alive so he had to tell Kai what happened. That was the only time he had ever seen the blonde cry. Their group of five dissolved that day. It was beyond repair now as Kai walked out the door.
He still refused to cry as he stepped onto the street. It was sunny. That annoyed him. Everyone looked so happy while this was the worst day of his life. The kids playing jump rope across the street seemed to laugh at him. The dog barking through the fence, mocked his depression. He kept walking towards his car. Everything around him blurred. All he saw was the steering wheel.
Beomgyu blocked the door to get in. "I love you so much. I swear it won't ever happen again! You're the best thing that has ever happened to me. I don't deserve you! I'm so sorry I put you through this. I should've trusted you. I should've called! Please! Please don't leave!"
Kai's focus was entirely on the handle of the car door. Beomgyu's waist was blocking it. He gently pushed him to the side then got in. Beomgyu kept pounding on the window but the blonde refused to look at him. The keys went into the cup holder as he pushed 'start'. The engine roared.
Beomgyu moved out of the way before he got run over. He fell to his knees watching the car fade into the horizon. In his depression, he picked himself up and walked into the house. The duffel bag was still in the corner of his bedroom. He emptied the contents onto the bed.
The first item was the Bruno Mars t-shirt he liked to steal when his boyfriend went to work. The second was the red heart shaped guitar pick he got him for valentine's day. The third was his matching toothbrush. He had a pink one while Beomgyu had a black one. An ode to their favorite female k-pop band. The rest was more clothes.
He slipped into Kai's hoodie and sweatpants then cried into his pillow. One year of their lives was wasted because he did exactly what he accused Kai of.
When Beomgyu rolled over, he saw the teddy bear that Kai left behind. He pulled it into his arms and snuggled it. The bear should've been Kai. It's fur got soaked with more tears as he screamed into it.
Beomgyu really was going to tell him. He had it all planned out. He was going to tell him everything then promise to never see Yeonjun again. There was a million promises he wanted to make but now wouldn't get the chance to keep. All he had to do was leave when Yeonjun kissed him. If he left, he would still have a relationship to hold onto. But Kai cheated first. That was his justification. Except that he didn't.
He found that out in the morning when Yeonjun asked why he slept with him. The answer was simple. "He was fucking Soobin first."
Yeonjun looked at him confused. "When? I was with him last night. We went to a concert together."
"...what?"
"Yeah. He was with me. We had dinner with Kai beforehand. We tried convincing him to go but he said he had an early shift so he couldn't. Soobin bought him a BTS t-shirt because he couldn't be there with us. Please don't tell me you thought they were sleeping together because they had the same shirt."
That's when it all ended. Beomgyu ran around the city trying to find Kai. This wasn't something to discuss on the phone. Yeonjun, unfortunately, found him first while he was on his way to lunch.
Now he didn't have his blonde because of his jealousy. The only thing he had left of him was a teddy bear and his unwanted clothes.
Two days later, Beomgyu got home from work to see a box of his stuff on his doorstep. Soobin, the last person he wanted to see, stopped by. "You're a fucking moron and Kai is a mess right now."
"Go away. There isn't anything you can say that will make me feel worse than I feel right now."
"Did you even listen to him or did you just assume and run off to Yeonjun?"
"WHY ARE YOU HERE?"
"He's moving. Found a job 20 miles from here. Just thought you should know."
Beomgyu tossed the box onto the couch. "You going with him or something?"
"No. Taehyun is though. They're going to be living together. Honestly? I hope you and Yeonjun do get together. You fucking deserve each other. He kissed you knowing you were dating Kai and you let it happen!"
"STOP! JUST STOP!"
"That's all I had to say. Oh and Kai wanted his guitar pick back."
"Really?" Beomgyu had hope he would see him again now. "If he wants it, he can get it himself."
"I'll just buy him a new one. Burn it for all I care."
Beomgyu watched him leave. He opened the box and saw all the gifts they had given each other over the year they were together. It was all worthless now. He collected everything and tossed it into the dumpster.
Over the next week, not one person from their group of five texted him. He had to block Taehyun on social media because the younger kept posting photos of him and Kai together. Taehyun seemed to take him everywhere in an effort to make him feel better.
Beomgyu ran into Yeonjun at a fast food chain. They couldn't even look at each other. Soobin did his best to save money so he could move near the youngest two.
Their group of five was split into three, one and one.
4 years later, Beomgyu was getting his tux fitted to be the best man at a friend's wedding. Satisfied, he walked out of the dressing room. In the distance, he saw a tall man with fluffy blonde hair and round glasses. It was unmistakably Kai. He quickly changed into his regular clothes and told the girl he would be back. Beomgyu ran across the street and shouted Kai's name. A lot has happened in those four years they had been apart. He had matured a lot. He wasn't the same stupid 19 year old who cheated without hearing his partner out. He was 23 and desperate to regain the love he never forgot about.
Kai stopped when he saw his ex running towards him. He waved awkwardly.
Beomgyu stopped in front of him, slightly out of breath. "Hey. Um... how have you been?"
"I've been fine. Taehyun is still my roommate and Soobin lives next door. I haven't seen Yeonjun in years."
"Me too. I hope he's doing okay."
"He's Yeonjun Choi. He's probably off ruling the world right now."
Beomgyu laughed a little. "Yeah probably."
"The tie looks good on you."
"What?" Beomgyu looked down to notice he was still wearing the dark blue silk tie. It looked odd against his green short sleeve. "Oh. I was getting my tux fitted for a wedding."
"Congratulations..."
"It's not mine. I'm just the best man..." Beomgyu noticed the slight upwards curve in his eye when he said that. That gave him hope. "Are you doing anything a month from now?"
"That's a little vague. I probably have work."
"I still don't have a date... want to go with me? As friends of course."
The blonde looked off into the distance. It had been four years. They both have dated since then and clearly none of their relationships have worked out. Except he could never be 'just friends' with Beomgyu. "I don't think that's a good idea..."
"Why not? No strings attached. I promise."
"I don't think I could ever be just friends with you. It wouldn't be fair if I was bringing your mood down at a wedding."
Beomgyu bit his lip. "Losing you four years ago was the biggest mistake I have ever made. I still love you Kai. I never stopped. We can take it slow. I'd love to know what you have been doing since then. Go with me?"
"Sure. Here's my new number."
Beomgyu promised to text him after he got his tux fitted. He happily went back to the tailors. The seamstress noticed he was in a signficantly better mood. "Why are you so happy Mr. Choi?"
"Because, I finally got my second chance. And this time I won't fuck it up."
