THAT CRAZY GIRL, Zuleen, stood up confidently in front of us. She wanted to set up our debate in a middle of the busy bus trip. Lakas ng tama niya sa utak.
"Here, I will give you an easy topic. The topic for our debate is..."
Ngumiti siya nang nakakaloko.
"One plus one."
Nagkatinginan kaming mga magkakaibigan if that's supposed to be necessary. Is that debatable?
"In this topic, your side will defend that the answer is always equals to two while our side will defend that it may not. Is it clear for your deficient brains to comprehend that?" Explain niya.
"Bakit 'yan 'yung topic?" Tanong ni Ehseng.
"Well, alam kong 'yun lang ang alam niyo kaya iyon ang naisipan ko. Baka binomial nga, hindi niyo pa alam." Pangmamaliit niya sa amin at tinawanan kami nung isang kasama niya. Naasar kami dahil totoong hindi namin iyon alam.
Sa kaso namin patungkol sa topic, madali lang depensahan iyon. Sinong taong hindi alam ang one plus one? Syempre, two ang sagot. Pati kinder alam iyan. We knew that STEM students are good at Math. They learned about numbers and variables, then why they were so confident na hindi two ang sagot sa one plus one? Nabutaw na ba sila?
"Bring it on, bitches!" Hamon ni Lando nang hindi nag-iisip. Palahamon talaga 'to!
"You go first." Sabi ni Zuleen.
"Sige." Sabi ko at nagbigay espasyo si Denver sa akin.
I faced them with a China brand smile.
"In our case, the answer is obviously two and it is a fact that adding one to another one will give us two. Splitting this amount will make it one half and another half. Therefore, it is exactly the amount as a whole. Kaya kapag may isang pabida at nagsama pa siya ng isang katulad niya, there's a big chance na may dalawang bida-bidang nasa harapan namin ngayon." I ended my opening remarks by mocking those two.
Naghiyawan sa tuwa ang mga tao sa paligid namin.
"Woah." Namamanghang sabi ni Denver. Nabilib ang Kuya niyo!
"Kayo naman, one plus one?" Palag ko.
Tumayo naman si Zuleen.
"As we tried to calculate it, we usually conclude that one plus one is always equal to two but it is not usually determine on its unit or presence. You are right in your defense but the number 2 serves only as an option."
Natahimik ang lahat sa kaniyang pagpapatuloy.
"You only depend on that one particular answer. And that answer is just a model of math. Didn't you think that the value of one unit compare to another unit may have been differ to its value? You cannot actually tell their practical value when you operated it throughly by combining them in regards to its elements, or certain reactions. Does it makes a sense to you? Kapag may isang tanga ang nakitsismis sa isa ring tanga, lahat ng makakarinig ng tsismis ay magiging tanga rin. In reality, it implies that 1 + 1 = 2 is not always the answer."
Naghiyawan ulit ang mga tao. They were impressed by Zuleen's deliverance of the negative case. Namangha rin ako sa kaniya dahil ngayon ko lang napag-alaman na may posibilidad pala rin na ang one plus one will not be equal to two in certain ways.
Pumagitna si Denver.
"Okay, for the next round, we're going to have rebuttal for both sides! The primitive case will go first." Turo ni Denver sa amin. Kailan pa ito naging referee?!
Ngumiti siya sa akin.
"Ano 'yung rebuttal? Sampalan na ba ang ganap doon?" Tanong ko sa kaniya.
Natawa naman si Denver. "It means that you have to explain why the argument of the opposing case is invalid."
"Ahh, ako na dyan, dzai!" Ehseng excused herself para siya ang sumalang.
Tumayo siya sa tabi ko.
"Hindi ako kumbinsido sa ipinaglalaban ng kabilang katunggali. Bakit? Kasi hindi iyon tumutugma sa sistema ng pag-compute ng grades sa exam. Kasi kung hindi two ang sagot sa one plus one, edi sana bagsak na ako last year. Wala akong tama sa exam ko noon. 'Buti na lang hindi nakatingin si Ma'am nun kaya tinama ko ang isang item at gayundin sa isa pa. Ginawa kong dalawa ang tamang sagot ko para hindi nakakahiya kay Ma'am. Kaya dapat ang one plus one ay equal mismo sa two."
Hinarap siya ni Zuleen.
"You are right for your claims yet it is still not convincing. Are you sure na two lang ang tama sa exam mo noon?"
Hindi nakapagsalita si Ehseng at napatingin sa amin.
Kinabahan siya.
"See? By correcting those items, it will tend you to correct all of the items in the examination as well kaya you reached the passing score at nakapasa ka. Is that right?"
Nahirapan si Ehseng na sumagot ulit kay Zuleen. Nagulat na lang kami na unti-unti siyang napapatango.
"HALA! NAG-CHEAT KA, EHSENG?! Same tayo, bes! Tinama ko rin 'yung akin lahat." Share ni Bhea. Okay na pala pakiramdam ni Bhea.
Natawa na parang baliw si Zuleen.
"How could you imply that you got both two correct answers if you had the chance to correct all of them? Kaya ang pagbabago mo ng isa at sa kasunod pang item will lead you to cheat the whole items in the examination. It means that your one plus one is equal to 100. So the question is, did you perfect the exam?"
Bumaling kaming lahat kay Ehseng.
"Tinama mo ba lahat, 'Seng?" Usisa ko at naiiyak siyang napatingin sa akin.
"S-Sorry, dzai! Sorry! Balak ko sanang mangopya sa'yo nung exam pero hindi ko alam na i-wa-one-seat apart pala tayo ni Ma'am. Akala ko mapag-iiwanan ako sa inyo kaya nung magtsetsek na ng papers, tsinek ko lahat ng akin." Nangingiyak niyang pag-amin sa akin.
Niyakap namin tuloy siya.
"Sana 'di mo na lang pinerpek para makapuntos man lang tayo rito!" Sabi ko sa kaniya.
"Boynas kayo!" Mura niya.
"I end up my statement." Tugon ni Zuleen at umupo na siya.
Pumalakpak ang mga tao para kay Zuleen. Kita mo sa pasahero na naeentertain sila sa amin imbis na sa TV sila manood ng pirated movies.
"Now, its time for cross-examination! Both sides have to question the opposing teams." Anunsyo ni Denver.
Natigilan lang kami nang may pumara.
"Para po." Tawag-pansin ng matanda.
"Manong, park the bus!" Sigaw ni Denver.
"Butaw na driver 'yon. Bingi." Sabi ko.
"I supposed he didn't understand the word." Ani ni Zuleen at d'un lang kami naalarma.
"PARA PO!!!"
Napasigaw tuloy kaming lahat at doon lang nag-stop ang bus. Pahamak talaga 'tong si Denver eh! Ang sosyal ng para niya. Tinulungan muna ni Denver alalayan ang matanda sa pagbaba habang dala-dala ang bagahe nito. Nang matapos ang komersyal break ay bumalik na agad kami sa aming scenario.
"Now let's continue! The positive case will be the first to cross-examine your opposition." Turo ni Denver sa amin.
Tumayo ang dalawa-si Bhea at si Lando.
Naengganyo ako nang makasama si Bhea na sasalang sa debate. Kapag si Bhea ang kausap mo, may credibility ang bawat sinasabi niya. Kahit na adik iyan sa minors, seryoso iyan magpahayag ng saloobin. Siya ang pinaka-matured mag-isip sa amin.
"Nakikita mo ba kami, Zuleen?" Tanong ni Bhea.
"Yes, indeed."
"Kung nakikita mo kaming nakatayo at gumagana pa ang salamin mo, can you please count us? If you don't mind." Ngiting tagumpay ni Bhea.
Nag-apir silang dalawa ni Lando. Ang bilis niyang makaisip ng supporting demonstration sa magiging defense niya.
"One, two. Dalawa kayong nakikita kong nakatayo." Bilang ni Zuleen.
"I end up our statemen-!"
"Uyy, 'di pa tayo tapos, Lando! Gagi ka!"
"Ayy! Akala ko okay na 'yun."
Nagsalita si Zuleen.
"I know what you were trying to emphasize. Dalawa nga kayo sa paningin ko ngunit kahit baliktarin ko pa kayo, hindi mo masasabi sa akin na dalawa kayong babae dahil iisa lang ang babae sa inyo. That is one of the factors that one plus one will equals to one leaving behind the value of the initial term."
"Babae kaya ako! How dare you!" Pagpupumilit ni Lando.
"Patingin nga if babae ka." Hamon ni Zuleen.
"Hala! 'Di ba may lawit ka, Lando? Takpan mo!" Nababahalang sabi ni Bhea.
"Inipit ko siya, bitch. Puwede na kaya 'yun?"
Natawa ang mga tao rito sa mini bus.
"You can't simply deny it. You cannot necessarily say that one plus one will always be two if you always depends on their factorial presence." Umupo na si Zuleen. Siya pa rin ang nakakalamang sa amin. Nakaka-bad trip!
"Dahil sa'yo Lando, palpak ang depensa ko! Putulin ko 'yang lawit mo eh. Nanggigil ako!" Bintang ni Bhea.
"Malay ko bang idadawit niyo pa 'yung ano ko rito?! Nakakaloka kayo!"
"Hoy, mga STEM! One plus one, hindi niyo pa alam. Ang laki ng problemang idinulot ninyo sa amin! Ang sakit niyo sa ulo!" Pang-aakusa ni Ehseng sa kanila.
Tumayo si Yshie nang hindi namin inaasahan. This is great if she had the courage to mess with them. Competitive itong si Yshie. That is the reason why na palagi akong talo sa kaniya kapag may alitan kaming dalawa. Mahilig itong mambara kapag mali ang sinasabi ng isang tao. Tatarayan ka na lang niya kapag natapos ka na niyang lampasuhin.
"Go, Yshie!" Cheer ni Denver.
Naol chineer. Kuya pa naman kita.
Pumait lang ang timpla ng mukha ni Yshie nang dahil sa kaniya at harapang tiningnan ang mga STEM. Unti-unting umaakyat ang kaniyang isang kilay para ipakita ang bitchiness look niya. Ang taas ng pride ng kilay niya, di ko mareach.
"Can you please elaborate your claims about the factorial answers of one plus one? Because it is delusional to use the operation of addition if you're using it to degrade the value of the constant number of the two terms. Constant number has the permanent value that cannot be disregarded. The two term has the same value to be considered. Parehas lang sila in all qualities, they must be both equal. You cannot subjectively overrule the presence of the two terms by showing their reactions in any factors you'd like because we only use addition in the equation that helps them to joined in. You have to use addition without using other different operator you had been supplying for your falsifiable claims!"
Nga-nga kaming lahat.
Wala akong naintindihan ni isa sa sinabi niya, basta ang alam ko kakampi namin siya. Nagpalakpakan ang mga tao at pinapangunahan ito ni Denver.
"Yshie, ano ulit 'yung sinabi mo? 'Di ko na-gets." Tanong namin sa kaniya.
"Huwag na kayong mag-ask. Hindi ko rin alam. I'm trying to be matalino here." Bulong niya.
"Same tayo. Hindi ko rin alam ang sinabi ko kanina. Basta ang alam ko, may nasabi ako." Sabi ko.
"I think that's the perks of being HUMSS. May point kang sinasabi pero hindi mo naman alam ang sinasabi mo."
Zuleen's POV
"Now this is what you called the battle of the brains!" Sabi ni Gel sa likod ko.
I didn't expect that HUMSS have the potential to attack us without a mental consciousness to what they were blabbering about. That barbie-looking girl-Yshie, has the point though in her deliverance, but still in the contrast of my scale, her assail attempt was nebulously laid. Magaling lang silang magsalita, pero mga bobo pa rin sila.
I cleared my throat to have their attention. Ako naman ang magdedepensa on her accused.
Ako dapat ang mananalo sa labang ito.
"In accordance to your claim, I am not using other operator here. I'm still using addition and other terms in the equation aside from the answer-two. My case is 1 + 1 = n. My defense is that any possible number will indicated to the unknown variable except the number two. It could be one, three, four, five and so on. You always barking the notion of math when it comes to counting and basic arithmetic that is why you always come up to the answer two. However, I am talking about the reality here. Those constant number you were pertaining may not become equal to their values in real life aside from their common existence. Hindi mo alam kung anong magiging values ng mga terms na ginagamit mo."
"Can you give us an example for elaboration?" Sabi ni Yshie.
"For example, kapag may isang babae na isinama mo sa lalake, they can reproduce an offspring making the equation, 1 + 1= 3. Pero kapag isinama mo naman ang babae sa isang leon, that's a matter of life na iisa lang ang matitira sa kanila, and that is 1 + 1= 1."
They nodded repeatedly as they understood my explanation.
"Those were the same with other method. If there's a one drop of water added to one drop of water, can we conclude na may dalawang tubig sa volume na iyon? I know it's uncountable but it is one in volume. This is not mathematically basis on the ordinary arithmetic you used to have because I am discussing the paradox of operation that can be used on economics and realm of human processes. And it is called the synergy arithmetic. It manifested the idea of reality that all equal is not the same thing but always the same value. And that's it. Math is just stupid."
I sealed their mouth with my statement as they unable to speak a word.
"Any queries from the primitive case before we proceed to the latter?" Tanong ni Denver sa kanila.
"We will rest in peace." Sabi nung manoo na babae.
"Anong rest in peace?! We will rest our case kasi!" Pagtatama ni Yshie.
"Butaw ka talaga, Ehseng!" Ani ni Bhea.
"Edi kayo na, dzai!"
Sumuko na sila.
Wala na talaga silang maitatanong o maisasagot pa sa akin dahil malinaw na inilatag ko iyon sa kanila. Pumalakpak ang mga audiences sa mini bus. Nasaksihan nila kung gaano kahusay ang mga estudyante ng ZSU.
Nag-ingay ang salitaan ng mga tao.
"Ang gagaling nila, mare! Ganyan pala katatalino ang mga taga-ZSU noh. I-enroll ko kaya ang anak ko riyan."
"Ako rin, kumare! Ipapasok ko talaga si Junjun dun!"
"Balita ko may naganap na issue patungkol doon sa ZSU. Kaya pala pinag-aagawan nila 'yung limited slots dahil magagaling magturo ang mga guro doon."
Nagkaingay ang mga tao rito.
Bumaba na kami sa mini bus nang um-i-stop ito sa tapat ng mall habang hila-hila namin ang nakakairitang mabigat na bagaheng hindi na dapat isama pa sa bus trip na ito. Hays, Denver.
