There was one memory that you simply couldn't erase from your mind. No matter how long you lived on the Wandercrab, this memory continued to plague you. You wanted it gone, sense all it did was cause you pain. Pain because you could've prevented the loss of a friend if you had just tried harder to help, but now you had to live with the guilt and grief of revisiting this tattered memory.
"Y/N cookie!" You heard a familiar voice echo across the white porcelain walls of the Sugarteara building.
You glanced over and saw one of the high council members, Octopus cookie, waving at you.
Your heart fluttered anytime you saw them, their deep blue hair and enchanting green eyes (which were usually blue but these days they seemed to have changed (not that you were complaining at the time).) always seemed to draw you in. But professing your love always scared you. What if they said no, it'd be so embarrassing, so you bit your tongue and held those thoughts in.
"Oh! Octopus cookie! What is it?"
"I wanted to tell you something. Would you-"
Octopus cookie was cut off by another high council member, Stingray cookie. You found it funny that there was two stingray cookies but she did command quite a lot of authority so it was best not to bring anything up.
"Sorry to interrupt!" She said with a bow. "But I need to speak with you Y/N cookie."
"Oh! Okay!" You spun around to follow Stingray (because you'd rather not get lectured about "being a liability" again.), only to feel Octopus cookie grab your arm.
"Wait!? Won't you wait to hear what I have to say?" Octopus cookie pleaded.
You turned, grabbing both of their hands in your hands, squeezing them slightly.
"I'm sorry, Octopus cookie. Just wait until I finish here, I promise afterwards that I'll listen to whatever you want to say."
"But-"
"Come along Y/N cookie! We don't have all day. Do stop wasting the high regnant's time with pointless nonsense and come here." Stingray cookie called after you, causing Octopus cookie to glare at her.
"Sorry! We'll talk again very soon!"
The look of disappointment on their face after you said that was eternally burned into your mind.
It wasn't helped by the fact that it was the last time you saw them.
After your meeting, Octopus cookie was nowhere to be seen and nobody could tell you where they went off to either. Though you did notice some mention "good riddance", after you told them of your friends disappearance (How rude!). No matter where you looked or how loud you screamed, Octopus cookie never answered or returned. Leaving you sad and heartbroken. Never able to confess your feelings to them.
A part of you still wondered what Octopus cookie wanted to say to you...
Sugarteara fell not long afterwards.
It still stung. Even now losing your home still hurts all the same. After all, you grew up there, the corruption was undeniable but you still couldn't bring yourself to hate the place.
It was bound to happen, no matter how hated Octopus cookie was they were one of the high council members, without them Sugarteara's fall was inevitable.
You became a wanderer because what else could you do?
Sleep in the ruins of your old home? You weren't like Mocha Ray cookie. You weren't that devoted to Sugarteara, so you wandered.
You were fabulously bad at it.
You didn't pack enough food for the trip and unfortunately for you, your sense of direction was awful. You got lost constantly. Everything looked the same in the open ocean so you just ended up going in different directions.
You eventually ended up wandering down into the lower trenches of the ocean. Starving and weak.
Had you not met Electric eel cookie and taken refuge in the wandercrab, you would have even crumbled not soon after.
"Woah?! Are you alright?" A voice cried at you, or at least that's what you thought they might've been saying.
You attempted to open your eyes as you struggled to stay conscious.
"Ugh...I shouldn't have eaten that purple sea berry I found..." You gurgled lethargically, bile building up in your throat.
"Oh? Did you eat Grapeberries?" The voice chuckled worriedly. "No wonder you look so horrible! That stuffs poisonous!"
You felt somebody grab onto you, hoisting you onto their back (easily too!).
"Let's get you onto the Wandercrab so we can get you some medicine before you crumble."
"Th..anks.."
If they were an attacker you had no energy to stop them, thankfully they didn't sound all that malicious.
"Don't mention it! I'm Electric eel cookie. I'll get your name once you feel better!"
The Wandercrab, while loud, was a nice place to live all things considered. You finally had a place to live and things to eat that wouldn't poison you..
You spent your time enjoying a new place to call home and soon learned of their rule, 'never ask a cookie about their past'.
While it was a nice rule you still decided to tell Electric eel cookie about your past because you needed someone to vent to and they were a cookie you at least somewhat trusted.
Not that being a member of Sugarteara even mattered any more, you were basically laying claim to a pile of rubble at this point.
This place was full of all sorts of different cookies! From regular cookies like Electric eel cookie, to strange cookies like AnglerFish cookie.
Though out of all the cookies that lived on the Wandercrab, none were as strange as the cookie in an Ink cloak.
"So you're from Sugarteara?" Electric eel cookie chuckled, a coconut juice glass in their hand. "I suppose your clothes kinda give it away."
You glanced down at your white and blue shirt that was sullied by sand from the sea floor.
"Yeah. But now I suppose I have nowhere to go.." You sighed.
"Hey, Hey! This is your home now Y/N!" They said, rubbing your back softly. "There's nothing to worry-..Oh hey Ink cloak cookie! Come see our guest!" (They tended to easily get distracted. You found it rather funny.)
You glanced over, seeing a cookie in a black ink cloak with bright green eyes and dark blue hair.
Their appearance was strikingly familiar, looking like Octopus cookie.
You didn't want to make any assumptions though, or straight up ask in fear of breaking the Wandercrab's only rule.
Maybe it was just a coincidence they bared a striking resemblance to your friend. It wasn't impossible after all...
"Whoa! Hello! You look a lot like a cookie I used to know.." You said softly, holding out your hand. "N-not that I mean that in a rude way or anything! I was just surprised!-"
"..!" Their eyes widened and they quickly ran out of the room.
"Oh crumbs! I messed that up, didn't I?"
Electric eel cookie chuckled dryly. "Eh. They sorta act like that. They aren't a very social cookie after all.."
"I sure hope that's it, and not because of my utterly ridiculous behavior..."
Electric eel placed a hand on your shoulder. "Don't sweat it! You did fine! I think Ink cloak cookie just isn't fond of other cookies. That's all."
You blushed a little, crushing a bit for Electric eel cookie. (They were ripped and had a great personality! That's all!)
"Thanks for the reassurance." You chuckled.
"No problem, Cherry face!" Electric eel cookie laughed.
The two of you laughed together, though you did feel a malicious presence staring at you from somewhere..
After that day, you could always see Ink Cloak cookie following you around. Always slightly out of sight but always there. If you ever tried to talk with them or even get close they'd quickly walk away without a word. It kinda puts you off to feel them watching you no matter where you go.
After about three days, Ink Cloak cookie would start getting closer. They went from sitting across the room from you to sitting only one table away from you.
You also swore they started following you home to..
What a creep.
Not only that, but if you ever tried speaking with another cookie you could always feel Ink cloak cookie staring daggers at you.
If you dared blush at another cookie (like you did one time with a cookie named SeaBunny cookie), Ink cloak cookie would come over quickly and ask the cookie you were talking to to follow them.
You'd never see that cookie again. It really freaked you out!
"Tut. Why are you out so late, Y/N cookie?" AnglerFish cookie grumbled, the lantern attached to their head glowed dimly in the night street.
"Oh! I just lost track of time while I was out in the town." You chuckled nervously. "Any reason you're asking?"
There was that feeling again..Someone was watching you! Ink cloak cookie had to be somewhere nearby!
"Well..I couldn't help but notice that Ink Cloak cookie has been following you around a lot. Which is awfully out of character for that cookie.."
You grimaced, now even other cookies are noticing their..stalking.
"I- Yeah..they do kinda freak me out.." You sighed, coming to a stop at your house. "But I can't figure out what they want. Every time I go to talk to them..they run away from me."
"Maybe you remind them of an old memory they don't like?" Anglerfish cookie suggested.
"Well..maybe? What's their name? Is it by any chance Octopus cookie?" You were hoping that they might actually be your long lost love (but if they were, why didn't they want to say hi? Were they mad?).
"Tsk. Afraid not. Nobody knows their name.."
Well..that's concerning.
"Somehow not knowing who they are scares me more.." You laugh nervously. "Well I should get to bed, night Anglerfish."
"Goodnight, be careful out there young one."
You shut the door, heading upstairs to get ready for bed.
Halfway through brushing your teeth you heard it.
Creeek
"Huh?" You jogged downstairs and to the front door. "It's unlocked? Could've sworn I locked it earlier.."
You felt a shiver run down your spine but ignoring your gut (a rookie mistake but you thought you were safe!), you locked the door and headed to bed in you pajamas.
The last thing you remembered before falling asleep, was the feeling of being watched by hundreds of eyes.
Your sleep was short and dreamless..
You awoke to the feeling of someone stroking your hair...
Wait?
You jumped, attempting to roll away from the cookie's touch only to feel their other hand grab onto your waist.
"Don't move." A grizzled voice grumbled.
A really familiar voice.
"Octopus cookie?" You blinked.
"So you do remember me..I'm happy."
"Wha-What are you? Where have you-..-"
You stopped as Octopus cookie hugged you tightly, their head nuzzled into the crook of your neck. Looking down, you saw Ink cloak cookie.
"Wait. Your, uhmm....never mind! How do you know my friend?"
The cookie chuckled, shrugging off their hood to reveal the deep blue hair of Octopus cookie. The evidence was irrefutable.
"I go by many names now. As much as I don't like it, I'll allow you to call me Octopus cookie, and I think we're more than friends."
"Are we?" You asked a little unsure at what your friend was on about, but Octopus cookie ignored you. Rather they continued to nuzzle your neck, their soft hair tickling your dough.
"I've missed you so much. Ever since they sent me away without being able to say goodbye to you..I've always been dreaming of this moment...and now it's finally happening Y/N!"
"Wait! Then why did you always avoid me?" You sat up on the bed, shrugging off Octopus cookie.
"Because I thought cutting all ties to that wretched place would be good for me. But it appears that we are bound by fate..so I couldn't stay away from you."
You chuckled, happy to see your friend after so long, though you did wonder why they looked so strange for a moment. (Maybe it was a new fashion statement!)
"Well this is wonderful octopus cookie. But I want to get back to sleep so.." You were swiftly interrupted.
"No."
"What?"
"I will not be leaving your side again..."
"I'm...I just want to be alone when I sleep Octopus cookie-"
The next thing you knew you felt their lips upon your mouth.
You'd be lying to yourself if you said you have never dreamed of this moment. You imagined it to be a happy fulfilling moment of pure ecstasy.
Instead all you felt inside was cold and clammy, a small part of you did want to enjoy it because of how long you have had a crush on Octopus cookie, but it was rather easy to silence that part of you.
Octopus cookie did nudge at your lips, seemingly wanting to deepen the kiss but you denied them that right.
But that didn't matter, since the kiss did its job. While you were distracted by the kiss and mostly focused on being disgusted at it, you didn't notice Octopus cookies arms wrap around your back and move upward towards your head.
The next thing you felt was a twang of pain going through your head before you collapsed on the bed...
"...hnnngh?" You gurgled.
The first thing you noticed upon opening your eyes was that you were no longer on the WanderCrab, instead you were moving through the open ocean.
The second thing you noticed was that you couldn't move...at all.
"Ah, you're awake.." Octopus cookie said melodically.
"Octopus cookie, are you crazy?!" You hissed, moving against your seaweed binds. "You can't just kidnap me!"
"Don't worry..we'll go back once I know you won't ever leave me again..like you did that day."
Their voice was tender and soft, yet it still made you shiver in fear.
"What about Electric Eel cookie?! They'll-"
"I leave all the time. Electric Eel cookie won't mind.."
"They'll come back after me! I'm sure!"
"Are you? You just moved there? And where you go truly isn't Electric eel cookie's problem."
You couldn't tell if you were hallucinating due to the blunt force head trauma or if it was happening, but piercing yellow eyes began appearing in the dark abyss and on Octopus cookies cloak. Each staring straight at you, increasing your dread.
"That day you left me..I wanted to profess my love..but I couldn't because of that stupid Stingray cookie.."
"Wait! You loved me?" You exclaimed, though your words fell on deaf ears. (Clearly they were more focused on monologuing)
"I fled to the abyss, for it was my only comfort..but now that you're back..you can be my comfort along with the abyss! I'll keep you there until you never think of leaving ever again!"
Octopus cookie stared at you. Those enchanting green eyes that you used to love now only filled you with dread and sadness for the friend you used to know was corrupted now...
"I love you, Y/N. And eventually, no matter how long it takes, you will too..."
"...NO!"
"Excuse me?"
You quickly shut your mouth, your emotions got the best of you and, in the heat of the moment, you snapped at them.
A rookie mistake.
Octopus cookie slapped you across the face with what felt like a clawed hand. Jam floated off your new wound and your heart sank into your stomach.
"I don't like your attitude.." Octopus cookie growled lowly. "I did not spend those years all alone, sad, just to be mocked!"
You sobbed, losing more and more jam by the moment. You noticed the eyes being to move behind Octopus cookie, right in the darker part of the ocean. Almost as though judging you. Getting ready to drag you away at the slightest mistake.
You stuck to your guns regardless.
"Octopus cookie! I loved you once but I can't love a cookie who's willing to kidnap me in order to-"
Octopus cookie's silky smooth laughter silenced the rest of your speech. They seemed more entertained than mad or worried.
"Its cute that you think you have a choice here..but you don't have a choice. The abyss swallows all, even the unwilling."
"What are you-"
Octopus cookie got close, grabbing your chin, their green eyes cast a pale green glow on your dough and even had a hypnotic effect of sorts on you.
Your muscles relaxed and you felt yourself calm, as foreign thoughts of giving up and letting Octopus cookie take you to the abyss raced through your head.
"I control the abyss. Thus you have no means of escape...I have you and I won't let anyone take you away from me, Ever."
Escape was futile. After all, your place was with Octopus cookie, the new monarch of the abyss.
"If any of those cookies come to take you away, I'll have the abyss swallow them to! Of course, not for protection like you.."
How sweet, the lengths they went to in order to protect you. Being the lover of such a cookie seemed enticing.
"There is no escaping for you my dear."
Truly there isn't a escape. Why did you even want to escape anyways? You've had a crush on Octopus cookie for so long, this is practically a dream come true.
"I will love you forever. And eventually..so will you~"
Yes..you will love them...
Electric eel cookie glanced around the Wandercrab.
Ink cloak cookie was gone and so was Y/N cookie.
Electric eel cookie wanted to go look for them, but it wasn't really their place to interfere. After all 'no asking for a cookie's past' was the main rule on the Wandercrab.
"I hope they're all right..Hopefully they'll be back soon. Now, I should go check on those two new travelers, the cookie with the black and red claw and the brown stingray cookie.."
"Come back soon Ink cloak cookie. You too Y/N cookie."
Unfortunately for Electric eel cookie. Once Y/N did return, they were a shell of their former self. Unable to exist apart from Octopus cookie.
Just as Octopus cookie had always desired.
At one point you desired such a fate, but that time had long since passed...
