Dante's Pov

As I approached Catherine in the living room, a mix of concern and curiosity etched across my face, I gently inquired, "How are you feeling, Catherine?" My voice carried a subtle hint of empathy, acknowledging the pain she must have endured at the hands of Avelyn's explosive outburst that left her with a broken nose.

Catherine's eyes met mine, a glimmer of relief flickering within them. With a surprising touch of resilience, she responded, "I'm actually doing much better now. As long as Avelyn confines herself to her room, I can't help but feel a sense of relief. It's an opportunity for all of us to regain a semblance of safety."

I offered my apology, sincere and remorseful, acknowledging the upset Avelyn's uncharacteristic behavior had caused. "Once again, I apologize for Avelyn's boisterous behavior," I expressed, my words filled with a weight of responsibility. "To witness such a profound change in her demeanor is truly unsettling, especially considering her past nature."

Yet, as our conversation unfolded, a dark realization cast a shadow upon our exchange. Catherine's smile dimmed, replaced by a contemplative expression that revealed deeper concerns.

"Your apology means a great deal to me," she admitted softly, her vulnerability seeping into her voice. "But I can't help but wonder what might have caused this abrupt transformation in Avelyn. It's as if she has become an entirely different person." Catherine spoke as if she had known my wife before she had run away.

Standing beside Catherine, I inhaled deeply, feeling the weight of our shared history settle within me. The floodgates of memory opened, and a torrent of moments rushed through my mind — the echoes of shared laughter, the vulnerability of our confessions.

However, Catherine's recent transformation remained a captivating mystery, pulling at the threads of my thoughts and compelling me to seek answers. Her mysterious change tugged at my curiosity, urging me to unravel the layers that conceal her true self.

"Catherine," I began cautiously, my voice tinged with genuine concern, "Do you think there might be deeper wounds festering within Avelyn? Hidden pains or struggles that she has kept concealed from me?"

"I believe that's who she truly was deep down," Catherine asserted, her voice brimming with unwavering conviction. Each word she uttered resonated with a sense of absolute certainty. The weight of her statement hung in the air, leaving no room for doubt or hesitancy.

"No one can conceal their true identity indefinitely. It is a basic truth of human nature. Please understand, I don't mean to undermine you in any way, but perhaps it's time to consider seeking professional assistance for Avelyn. She deserves the opportunity to receive the necessary support for her mental health. It's painfully evident that something within her is amiss, and it cannot be ignored."

Sensing the noticeable tension that had settled between us, Catherine, ever sharp and quick to adapt, swiftly changed the subject.

Her smile, once radiant and unwavering, wavered slightly, betraying a glimpse of vulnerability. But it was her genuine concern that shone through, overshadowing any previous traces of confrontation.

"Anyway, how are you feeling?" she asked, her tone shifting to one of gentle empathy. her voice laced with a genuine desire to understand my emotional state. "I can only begin to fathom the immense turmoil you must be experiencing, having just known your twins only to have them ripped away so abruptly by someone so vile."

Someone?

"Relieved, actually," I responded, my voice carrying a tinge of resolve. "I've managed to acquire raw footage of the kidnappers fleeing with the twins. I also have strong leads. It's a crucial step closer to finding them, and I refuse to let their disappearance consume me entirely. I'm determined to bring them back safely."

"Really? That's perfect," Catherine exclaimed, her voice tinged with relief. Her touch on my shoulders conveyed a sense of genuine concern. "I just hope nothing has happened to them, and that they're both okay."

My voice remained eerily calm as I responded, the weight of my words resonating. "I don't even want to entertain the thought of any harm coming to my babies. The mere notion of them enduring even a scratch fills me with an unfathomable rage. If anyone dares to lay a finger on them, I will personally hunt down the perpetrator and ensure their entire family faces the consequences, without mercy."

As the words left my lips, I saw a glimpse of horror flash across Catherine's eyes, momentarily betraying her own unease at the depths of my determination. However, she quickly regained her composure and sought to caution me, her voice a mix of concern and reason.

"Wow, I understand the desperation you must feel, but I hope you're speaking metaphorically," Catherine responded, her tone filled with a blend of disbelief and gentle admonition. "While I recognize the pain of having your loved ones missing, it would be best to let the police handle the situation. They can ensure justice is served in a lawful manner. Besides, we can't overlook the fact that there are doubts surrounding the twins' true father, especially considering Avelyn's behavior from the time she left till now. It's unsettling to think she even went as far as blaming me for taking her children, which is quite irrational."

Her hand, gentle yet firm, found its way to my shoulder, a touch meant to guide me back to reason. In her cautionary words and empathetic touch, I sensed her concern for my well-being.

"You might be right," I acknowledged, a touch of contemplation in my voice. "But I am taking all necessary precautions to ensure their safety. I won't leave any stone unturned."

Her eyes met mine, and she spoke with a hint of fear, yet her voice laced with genuine care. "I've seen you angry before, Dante, but never like this. Your emotions are running high, and I believe your actions may be veering toward the extreme. I hope you'll listen to reason and exercise caution."

Her words resonated within me, a reminder of the importance of balance in the face of adversity. However, before the gravity of our conversation could fully sink in, Catherine's tone shifted, revealing a sheepishness and a glimmer of excitement.

"Anyway, there's a spa in town called Aesthetic that I've been wanting to try after Avelyn and her friend attacked me, I need to relieve my pain," she confessed, her smile tentative yet hopeful. Her mention of the spa served as a momentary escape from the tension that enveloped us.

I reciprocated her smile. "I think that's a great idea," I replied, genuinely supportive. "But for your safety, I insist you take a few of my bodyguards with you. I don't trust this place."

Catherine giggled; her laughter punctuated by an affectionate peck on my cheek. "I'll be fine, although I must admit, this overprotective side of you is growing on me," she teased kissing my cheek, her words carrying a hint of playfulness.

As she bid her final farewell, her graceful exit through the door left me grappling with a bitter blend of detestation and loathing. I couldn't help but resent the woman I had foolishly overlooked, unaware of the unforeseen role she would play in driving a wedge between me and my family over the years.

Her departure stirred up a whirlwind of emotions within me—regret, anger, and a profound sense of loss. In that moment, I couldn't help but reflect on the strained relationships that had resulted because of her.

As the door closed behind her, a heavy silence settled in. I was left to confront the consequences of my choices, grappling with the bitter realization that she had become an unforeseen means for the unraveling of the bonds that had once held my family together.

"I've found all the cameras she managed to install the moment she arrived here, sir," One of my elite hackers reported, acknowledging their swift actions with a nod. "I've set them to rewind so that if she attempts to spy on us or suspects that we're onto her, nothing will appear out of the ordinary."

My team of skilled technicians and hackers sprang into action, diligently ensuring that our surveillance system remained a step ahead of Catherine's divisive plans.

"She'll be making moves soon, especially now that we've revealed we have a lead on her and the goons she hired," I continued, my voice tinged with determination. "Keep her under constant surveillance, and report back to me with every detail. I'll be tailing behind, ready to take measures. I need my twins back, no matter what."

My snipers nodded in understanding, their focused expressions mirroring my own sense of urgency.

As I glanced up towards the distant staircase, my gaze fell upon Avelyn and Mavis discreetly retreating into Avelyn's room. It was clear that their actions might've held a naughty intent.

However, amidst the chaos and uncertainty, a smile tugged at my lips as I caught sight of my mischievous wife. I knew there were numerous matters to address, including the lingering unease caused by Catherine's unsettling presence.

In order to safeguard Avelyn from the clutches of the unhinged Catherine, it became imperative for me to devise a foolproof plan that would guarantee Avelyn's safety.

With utmost diligence, I strategically stationed a team of vigilant guards to protect her, ensuring that she remained confined within the secure confines of her own room.

Although I required Catherine's presence in order to get my twins back, it was paramount for me to maintain a watchful eye on Avelyn, always within my sight and shielded from Catherine.

With an unwavering resolve, I was determined to retrieve my beloved babies and rid myself of Catherine once and for all. I simply needed her to think that I didn't believe Avelyn but on the other hand I needed to guard Avelyn away from Catherine.

Although whatever would come next promised uncertainty, I steeled myself to confront any challenge, willing to put everything on the line to safeguard their well-being and reclaim my precious babies back along with my precious wife.
