Carmén was now in the car with her mother, who was dropping her off to school.
She was listening to music as usual, in her own world.
Her mother tapped her shoulder, indicating she wanted to talk.
"Lo siento, mi amor. Solo quería preguntarte si todavía estsás invitando." Daniellé said to her daughter
(Sorry, my love. I just wanted to ask if you're still inviting Jahzara over.)
"Mamí tú la invistaste a ella. No a mí. Y ella dijo que vendría. No se olvidó de que le dijerss que estabas haciendo flan. Deberías haberla visto." Carmén said
(Mami, you invited her not me. And she said she was coming over. She didn't forget about you telling her that you were gonna make flan. You should've seen her.) Carmén said
"Bien, quería que viniera. Ella es una chica tan agradable." Daniellé sai
(Good I wanted her to come over. She's such a nice girl.)
"Lo sé, Mami. Estoy convencido de que te gusta más que yo. No debería haberla traído." Carmén said jokingly
(I know Mami. I'm convinced you like her more than me. I shouldn't have brought her over.)
"No te preocupes. Te amo más." Daniellé said
(Don't worry. I love you most.)
"Le dijo a Ariellé disaster eso." Carmén with a smile
(I'm telling Ariellé you said that.)
"Adiós Mami. Te amo." Carmén said opening the car doir
(Bye Mami. Love you.)
"Yo tambièn te amo." Carmén's mother said
(I love you too.)
Carmén walked in the building and went to her first period. Today they had a sub, so Carmén just distracted herself the whole class with music.
She would have brought her notebook, but she fears someone finding it.
Carmén was just minding her business while walking to her to her second period. She was rushing to the class, since she was so bored when not talking to anyone.
"Hey, mamí. My name Jamar. Lemme holla at you for a minute." The boy said while locking his lips
Carmén was confused, considering she didn't understand English. She caught hello and his name, but not the rest.
She assumed maybe he wanted to help or was asking her for something since he seemed to be a senior. He had a full mustache.
Carmén held her hand up before she went on her phone to translate.
"Hi. I'm Carmén. I speak Spanish. Nice to meet you." The translating voice said
"Oh you speak Spanish. I like that. Lemme write you something so you can translate it later." The boy said, still having Carmén confused
"Bye." He said once he handed her the paper
It had a number and something else on it. She was still trying to figure out what when she walked into biology.
"Hola Carmén." Jahzara said as she sat down next to her
(Hi.)
"Hola." Carmén said wanting to ask her about the paper
"¿Lo que tienes en tu mano?" Jahzara said looking at the girl's hand
(What you got in your hand?)
"Un me lo dilo cuando estaba caminando aquí. Tiene un número y algo que no puedo entender." Carmén responded
(Some boy gave it to me when I was walking here. It has a number and something I can't understand.)
"Déjame ver." Jahzara said
(Let me see.)
Carmén handed Jahzara the paper, hoping it wasn't anything bad.
Jahzara started laughing at the paper once she read it.
"¿Qué, es malo? ¿Por qué te ries?" Carmén asked worriedly
(What is it bad? Why are you laughing?)
"No, no está mal. So lo fuera, no me estaría riendo. Estaría listo para golpear a alguien." Jahzara said reassuring the girl
(No. It's not bad. If it was I wouldn't be laughing. I would be ready to beat someone up.)
"Bueno, ¿qué dice?" Carmén asked
(Well what does it say?)
"Dice que nos vemos en el baño a las 11:00." Jahzara said
(It say meet me by the bathroom at 11:00)
"¿Para qué?" Carmén asked still confused
(For what?)
"¿Cómo se llamaba?" Jahzara asked
(What was his name?)
"Uh, Jamar. ¿Por qué?" Carmén asked even more lost than before
(Uh, Jamar. Why?)
"Solo estaba tranrando de follar." Jahzara said bluntly while rolling her eyes
(He was just trying to fuck.)
"¿Me? ¿Estás seguro? Parecía un poco viejo." Carmén said with her eyebrow raised
(Me? Are you sure? He looked kinda old.)
"Eso es Jamr. Ese nigga un estudiante de último año y no te importa si eres un estudiante de primer año. Asqueroso." Jahzara said in disgust
(That's Jamar. That nigga a senior and don't care if you a freshman. Disgusting ass.)
"Eso es asqueroso. Simplemente se acerca a personas al Azar y entrega su número." Carmén said while shaking her head
(That's gross. He just goes up to random people and hands his number out.)
"No al azar. Se acerca a lad chicas que son guapas. Entiendo por qué trató de hablat contigo. Eres muy bonita." Jahzara said complimenting her
(Not random. He goes up to girls who are good looking. I see why he tried to talk to you. You're really pretty.)
"Soy bonita. Pero no creo que sea lo suficientemete bonita como pars que alguien me dé su número después de Los minutos de hablar." Carmén said
(I'm pretty. But I don't think pretty enough for someone to give me their number after talking for two minutes.)
"Pero lo eres. Al menos me hablarían contigo tan Pronto como te viera si no te encontrara en la oficina. Habríamos sido amigos de todos modos." Jahzara said with a smile
(But you are though. I would've at least talked to you as soon as I saw you if I didn't meet you in the office. We would've been friends anyway.)
"Gracias. Eres un encanto. Me alegri de que seas mi amiga." Carmén said
(Thank you. You're so sweet. I'm glad you're my friend.)
"Yo tambièn me alegro. Y hablando de dulces ¿la Ms. Dani todavía está de acuerdo con que yo venga?" Jahzara said excitedly
(I'm glad too. And talking about sweets, Ms. Dani still ok with me coming over?)
"Sí. Usted literalmente preguntó por tí mientras iba a la escuela. Creo que le gusta más que a mí." Carmén said jokingly
(Yes. She literally asked about you while she was taking me to school. I think she likes you more than me.)
"No puedo culparla. Todo el mundo se enamora de mí." Jahzara said as a joke
(Can't blame her. Everyone falls in love with me.)
"Tienes razón. Eres realmente simpático.," Carmén said truthfully while playing along
(You're right. You are really likable.)
"Gracias. Y no te preocupes. No te robaré a tu mamá." Jahzara said, making Carmén laugh
(Thank you. And don't worry I won't steal your mom from you.)
"Lo que sea. ¿Caminas a casa conmigo otra vez?" Carmén asked
(Whatever. You walking home with me again?)
"Si. Podemos encontramos en el baño de nuevo." Jahzara offered
(Yeah. We can meet at the bathroom again.)
"Ok."
The girls settled on their plans and listened to the lesson since they were still talking once it started. The teacher didn't bother with them anymore, so they talked all the time, even when it wasn't about the lesson.
Once the school day came to an end, Carmén went by the bathrooms, like Jahzara said, and waited for her.
She had put her airpods in just as she got tapped on her shoulder.
She turned around with a smile, expecting Jahzara, but it turned to a frown once she saw Jamar.
"Hey. I see you changed your mind." Jamar said with a smirk on his face
"Please back up." Carmén's phone translator said
"Why? You not happy to see me?" Jamar typed into his phone and translated it to Spanish
"No I'm not. Please leave me alone." Carmén's phone said as she was trying to back away
"Why not? Gimme a chance." Jamar's phone said
"Aye Jamar back up from her." Jahzara said coming out of nowhere
"Oh, you know shorty. That's great we can, you know try to hook sumn' up." Jamar said with a smirk on his face
"Ew, nigga no. She fifteen and I don't like you. Ion know why yo old ass tryna talk to her." Jahzara said approaching the two
"That's not bad. I'm only 18." Jamar said
"Ok, you only a weirdo. Now move fore I sock yo ass." Jahzara said getting agitated
"Alright. I'll talk to yall later." Jamar said
"Nah, you won't." Jahzara said grabbing Carmén's hand and headed for the exit
"Weird ass nigga. The au-fucking-dacity." Jahzara mumbled to herself
"Um, Jahzara. ¿Estás bien? Te ves enojado." Carmén asked hesitantly
(Um, Jahzara. Are you ok? You look mad.)
"Soy bueno. Lo siento por esto. Me estaba cabreando." Jahzara said
(I'm good. I'm sorry bout that. He was pissing me off.)
"Gracias por alejarlo de mí. Me estaba arrastrando." Carmén said grateful the girl was there
(Thank you for getting him away from me. He was creeping me out.)
"Noy hay problema. No me gustó cómo se estaba forzando contigo. No dejaría Pasar esom eres mi amiga." Jahzara said
(No problem. I didn't like how he was trying to force himself on you. I wouldn't let that slide. You're my friend.)
"Gracias. No tenías que hacer eso." Carmén said
(Thank you. You didn't have to do that.)
"Sí. Cuido de mis amigos. No dejaría que nada te pasara." Jahzara said sincerely
(Yeah I did. I look out for my friends. I wouldn't let anything happen to you.)
"Um, todavía estsás sosteniendo mi mano. " Carmén said looking down out of nervousness
(Um, you're still holding my hand.)
"¿Quieres queen detenga?" Jahzara said asking sincerely
(Do you want me to stop?)
Carmén shook her head while looking forward, still feeling Jahzara looking at her. She was making her blush, she did not want her to see that.
"Ok. Dime si lo haces." Jahzara said with a smile, glad that she still got to hold the girl's hand
(Ok. Tell me if you do.)
The girls walked to Carmén's house silently the rest of the way.
They walked in the apartment, met with Carmén's mother cooking, since she had taken the day off.
"Hola Mami." Carmén said as the two girls walked in the kitchen, still holding hands
"Hola bebe. Hola Jahzara." Daniellé said
"Hola Ms. Dani." Jahzara said
"Aww. Ustedes dos son tan lindos. Todos ustedes están tomados de la manos." Carmén's mother said looking at the two
(Aww. You two are so cute. Yall are holding hands.)
"Mamí." Carmén exclaimed feeling her face heat up
"Ella también me quería." Jahzara said while smiling brightly
(She wanted me too.)
"No, ni lo hide. Primero me tomaste de la mano." Carmén exclaimed
(No I didn't. You held my hand first.)
"Entonces, ¿por que sigues sosteniéndolo ahora?" Jahzara said to the girl with a smirk on her face
(Then why are you still holding it now?)
"Um. Voy al baño." Carmén said before quickly leaving the kitchen
(Um, I'm going to the bathroom.)
Jahzara laughed at how quickly Carmén left the kitchen.
"Le gusta." Carmén's mother said to Jahzara with a smile
(She likes you.)
"¿Crees que sí?" Jahzara asked
(You think so?)
Daniellé nodded her head.
"Veremos." Jahzara said
(We'll see.)
"¿Flan casi listo?" Jahzara asked smelling the dessert
(Flan almost done?)
"Si. Puedes quedarte a cenar de nuevo." Carmén's mother offered
(Yes. You can stay for dinner again.)
"Gracias." Jahzara said before going to Carmén's room
Jahzara knocked on the girl's door before going in.
"Carmén, ¿ estás bien?" Jahzara asked once she entered the girl's room
(Carmén, you good?)
"Estoy bien. Solo necesitsaba usar el baño." Carmén responded as she sat down on her bed pulling out her homework
(I'm fine. I just needed to use the bathroom.)
"Segura." Jahzara said skeptically as she sat down next to Carmén
(Sure.)
"¿Te quedas a cenar de nuevo?" Carmén asked
(You staying over for dinner again?)
"Sí. Ms. Dani me amo." Jahzara said
(Yeah. Ms. Dani loves me.)
"Estás bien." Carmén said taking out her airpods
(You're alright.)
"Um. ¿Puedo tomorrow tu mano de nuevo?" Carmén asked nervously, while looking down
(Um. Can I hold your hand again?)
"Pensé que no querías tomarme de la mano." Jahzara said teasingly
(I thought you said you didn't wanna hold my hand.)
"Cállate." Carmén mumbled as she took the girl's hand in hers while she worked
(Shut up.)
Carmén didn't know why she asked to hold her hand. She just wanted to.
Carmén was starting to want to be with Jahzara all the time.
