When I was requested by the king, I expected to do something exciting. I never imagined that it'll be like this.
"How much longer, I can't anymore" Annoying. Another annoying voice!
"If you can't handle it, then how come you're one of the kings subordinates" I mumbled, but it seems they heard me.
"well excuse me, but we should've arrived by now if we aren't with you. Bastard" Lyka, the group's archer said. She was a girl obviously.
"I don't like your attitude, young lady." I said stoping. I faced her and she glared at me.
What just because she's a girl, she gets a special treatment? Oh darling, that's not how life works.
You must overcome hardship to reach your destination.
"well I certainly don't like you either" she shoots back. A brat aren't we.
Be lucky you're alive.
I started walking again, this time I'm a little bit faster. One of the humans approached me.
" Mr, on the behalf of my companions, I apologise. We usually travel on air, so this is a little difficult for her to face." Yuna, the healer, said. They are the only girls on the group.
How can a healer be tougher than an archer!?
"The air, huh" I discontinued walking, and asked her, " is it with you". I just want to get this over with.
She looked shocked for a moment, but then softened. "well no sir, but I believe it's in the hands of our leader. " she said, glancing at the heavily armoured man, leading the way.
"Oi" I shouted, getting their attention. " what!" Lyka hostilely asked. Tch.
"is this transport ship your healer is talking about with you." I nicely and calmly asked.
"yes, now what do you want!" this is crumbling my patience.
So I yelled.
"nothing bitch, now if you'll excuse me I'll be heading first!" I hate humans! They make me frustrated.
If they weren't the same kind as my beloved, I would've annihilated them long ago.
They seem to be taken back by my words, but who cares. I'm annoyed, pissed, and angry. Not to mention, frustrated!
I faced my back at them and jumped towards the sky. Here, I unfolded my red wings, covered with scales. I roared my emotions away, and started flying. Towards my destination.
I don't want to see them, they make me sick. Moreover they won't stop nagging and nagging. Had I stayed, I would've turned them to nothing but ashes.
I arrived hours later, just in time to check an inn. I don't wanna sleep on the hard ground tonight.
Arriving at my room, I went to the bathroom and took a nice long shower. Humans are getting more and more rude this days.
I was holding back, hoping I wouldn't kill her. But-ugh!
"if only I could just be on good terms with humans." sigh. I really wish I do.
Jumping on top of the bed, I couldn't help but sigh, once again. Why did I even accept.
I was expecting an annihilation job, but a massenger. Really‽
Thinking back, I can't forget the fact that I'm going to be a part of this 'project'. Sure,i do have a massive magic capacity. But I just can't shake the thought of being on rampage again.
I don't want to be a needy creature.
Well, I can't say I'm not.
The thing is, I'm talking about power.
It easy to tell that I'm powerful, but after losing her I felt like I'm the weakest.
I couldn't do anything. I wasn't with her.
And now that I'm participatingino this so-calledd project, I couldn't help but worry about what happens next.
Will it succeed, or will it fail?
I don't know.
I'm not a future teller.
As I close my eyes, I began drifting back to my memories.
The one where I was still present in the castle.
" this kid has guts, doesn't he?" I could hear you. The leader whispered to his companions.
"While I do appreciate your presence, you must hear me closely as I will only say this once." the king said. Although I probably get what he's talking about, I can't help but be careful.
I must be, if this goes wrong, I'll have another problem to fix. I don't want to deal with that right now with all this pressure. I just want peace for a while.
Maybe I'll even consider moving somewhere with nature. A little secret of myself, I love greenery. Trees, and grass, with that combination, I'll have a fresh air lingering around. Plants too actually.
I remember when I was a kid, my father would fly towards a destructive empire. He would cause chaos and death. He would kill, and once he's done, he'll claim all of his doing ours.
Materials, resources, knowledge, all of those are from his doing. I kinda think it's a little bit idiotic though. He could've just gone to the market and bought those. Not that difficult.
But then again, we are a special creature. So of course we lack what most humans have. We hide and hunt. We have a special territory we must protect, called home.
But he just does that once every year. He could destroy empires in one go, but he said it's best to let them live. They are just pawns in my father's games. Once they've proven their worth, they would be destroyed the next day.
They became the stepping stones my family walked on.
It's difficult building an empire. From towns to villages, villages to cities, cities to kingdoms, and kingdoms to empires. A lot of resources.
It also depends on where the said empire exists. It must be where crops can grow, water will flow, and where flowers bloom.
A shame father concerned them all, had humans become more aware of their doing, they would've had many achievements with all those various fallen empires.
Now the cycle just won't stop as people became more advanced every day. Of course, the lands my father had gotten were for us. Me, my brother, him, and my mother.
Quite devastating that they're gone. I missed them sometimes. But I know they're in a better place now. I sometimes think about them as my lucky memories. They would help me with things that I'm not confident about.
Their success was now mine as I continued to walk the paths they made.
Except for my tyrant brother, of course, he's living his own life. I bet it's filled with happiness right now. I forgot it's almost time for his wife to give birth. Well, it seems that I'll visit once again. I have to check on my nephew.
Oh right, I was so lost in thought, I almost forgot the king too.
" you must accompany the group present here, travel to the mythic forest and open its gate," the king said.
I waited for him to continue, is this all?
"And you must deliver this message to the person who is in charge of the project" he handed me a scroll, a small one.
A delivery man?
I could slay mythic monsters and beasts, and you just want me to be a delivery boy!?
Irritation suddenly came across my face visibly, and I know this did not go unnoticed by the king.
"May I know if you have any disapproval? " the king asked. Although I'm very displeased with the idea, who can I oppose?
" my king, I have agreed to come here after giving your call some thought. I expected to eliminate any threat the kingdom carried "I said, slightly bowing my head. I expected to have my hands get messy.
Though I do agree, I'm feeling tired of all those exterminations.
And that is why I agreed to this.
Not that I'm complaining, it's just so.. Idk.. Boring perhaps?
" you will have details when you arrive at your specific destination" the king said, slightly bowing his head. He sighed as he glanced back.
"perhaps you will change your mind until then" he continued.
I was confused, what was it that the king can't even say. Just what is this secret that they have.
"I'll give you a little piece of this project" now this is what I am expecting.
" the people of the mythic forest are needing someone who have a high magic capacity. This someone plays a big role in the project. We can't accept it to fail, hence I have called for you" now this all makes sense.
They need me because I have what they must have.
I have the ability to make their project, successful.
"as I said, you will travel with these adventures right here. I hope you all could build a wonderful bonding" he said glancing at the man on his left. It felt as if he was talking to this man instead of me.
And so, the journey begins.
I sigh of the memory, I didn't know they were like that.
This was the last thing I thought, before I fell into a nice, peaceful dream of my beloved.
