The rain of Kamino was never ending. Today was no different. The only difference on Kamino was the fact that my battalion and you were around. Commander Bly, your fiancé, and you, had decided after losing too many men the past few rotations, you needed to go to Kamino and identify a few Shinies who will be lucky to join the ranks in the 327th battalion.
The 327th battalion were your best friends. You didn't like making the hard decision to add more to the ranks. When a Jedi General had to do something like that, it signified and highlighted the incredible losses that they had gone through. It was nothing to be proud of, and every Clone resented more Shinies being added. More Shinies meant more of their brothers had died in the previous battles. It wasn't easy for anyone involved.
Bly was no different.
"I know I was made for combat, as were all of my brothers— fallen or still alive, but I hate war," Bly whispered while leaning on a wall that was facing the downpour that always plagued Kamino, "This just instills that hatred I have. More and more of my brothers are dying everyday and no one cares."
You inhaled sharply through your nose. You knew how much this time hurt Bly. You'd been his general for a few years now, and it never got easier. However, it wasn't just the Clones that suffered losses. The Jedi lost people too— lots of them at that.
You were a rare Jedi that thought attachments brought strength instead of weakness. Because of this, everyone of the Clones you'd lost had taken a toll on you.
"The war will end someday, my love," you whispered as a group of Clones in red armour walked by. You still wanted to provide support to your fiancé, but without the risk of getting caught in the process, "I too believe that this war has caused so much pain and suffering, but it can't last forever."
Bly shrugged; his expression unreadable. You understood his pain, but you didn't want to say that. Bly had just lost his lieutenant in the previous battle fought by the 327th battalion— a Clone named Galle. Galle was Bly's greatest friend and most trusted ally, besides you of course. He wasn't taking it well.
"Bly, I know Galle was a hard loss, but we need to be strong. We are stronger together, and Galle knew that too. He would want us to remain strong together; not apart. Let me in," you whispered while thumbing away a tear that had suddenly appeared on the commander's cheek, "Talk to me."
Bly sniffled and pushed his helmet atop his head to hide his tears from his fellow troopers. Last thing he needed was his brothers seeing him cry,
"To be honest, general," he began, calling you general. He only called you general whenever what he was about to say was serious (or of course, if someone was nearby that might overhear and be suspicious of pet names), "It's not about Galle— not really anyways. I just figured he would live forever. He and I trained together when we were both Shinies, and if he can die, then anyone can die. I'm most worried about losing you in combat."
You clicked your tongue as it finally all made sense. Bly had been a bit distant after Galle's passing, and you just assumed it was the way Bly mourned.
In reality, Galle's death just reminded your fiancé that no one is immortal.
Rude awakening.
You cursed at yourself for suggesting your battalion reinforce itself on Kamino after so little time had passed since Galle died. You should've been thinking about Bly and not the war. The war would continue for as long as it would need to, but who knew how long you or Bly had?
"I'm sorry for making us come here so soon after everything that has happened," you admitted while pressing your forehead against Bly's helmet, "And you shouldn't be ashamed for showing your emotions. I think it makes you incredibly brave."
Bly chuckled, which in all reality, it was more of a mix between a laugh and a sniffle thanks to his unexpected emotions, "Thanks, my love. It's just been so hard. I would likely be even worst than this if I didn't have you by my side."
After being careful to make sure no other Clone Troopers saw your affections, you swiftly pulled Bly's helmet over his mouth and pecked his lips. He chuckled as you did this; this time, his laugh sounding exactly like a laugh without the tears involved,
"Don't get sappy on me, soldier. You'd be just fine without me."
"Well, I'd sure hope so."
That voice... that unmistakable voice. But, you were on Kamino? How could the owner of this voice be on Kamino without being blasted to bits by the thousands and thousands of Clone Troopers that walked this planet?
"Asajj Ventress," you said coldly while spinning around, "What in the maker's name are you doing here?"
The Sith assassin looked like a snake as she appeared from the shadows. Her eyes were a deep crimson which complimented the occasional Kaminoan lightning,
"Looking for you, of course. My master isn't done with you after what you did to him on Geonosis, and he asked for you to personally be escorted by me to meet him."
This still didn't answer your question about how she could sneak onto Kamino undetected. Your brain began to wrack at the unspeakable and unreasonable fears that perhaps the Kaminoans had a rat— someone who would tell the Separatists when the coast was clear.
The Council has warned you personally about letting conspiracies guide your thinking. You couldn't help it, though! Nothing about this made sense.
You couldn't formulate words to respond to the Dathomirian witch— you were in complete and utter shock. However, Bly was completely aware of what was happening, and he was more than willing to confront the Sith,
"This is our world, you scum! Leave it while you still can! If you try to touch General (L/N) or anyone else on Kamino, I will alert the entire sector that you're here. You'd be blasted to pieces within minutes."
"Oh, please," Ventress said sarcastically while barely glancing at your fiancé, "You don't need to be formal around me, Clone. I know everything about the Jedi and you. General (L/N) won't be necessary."
You blushed in embarrassment that someone like Ventress could sneak up on you and catch you and Bly in a very vulnerable situation, "Well, just from that admittance alone, we can't let you leave," you commented back to the Sith as you recognized how dire this really was, "Bly gave you a choice, and you just had to run your mouth. Now, we can't let you leave."
The Dathomirian appeared to be quite amused by how fast you were willing to abandon your Jedi Code whenever Bly was involved. She made a mental note to tell Count Dooku about this when she returned you to Geonosis. Dooku might want to train another apprentice alongside Ventress, and the assassin believed (Y/N) could potentially be a good candidate.
"I always love a challenge," she hissed, similarly to that of a snake. Now, she had the appearance and voice of a snake— all Ventress was missing was the tail.
Bly quickly began running to grab the wall comlink to alert Master Shaak Ti and the rest of the Clones stationed on Kamino, but Ventress stopped him in his tracks— quite literally.
Your jaw dropped to the floor as Bly was lifted off of the ground; his hands latched to his throat as an invisible force attempted to squeeze the life out of him,
"Put Bly down, you monster!" you shrieked while unsheathing your (F/C) lightsaber and pointing it in her direction, "He is not apart of this."
Ventress then proceeded to taunt you a bit with the body of your fiancé; her grip threatening to tighten and crush Bly's windpipe for good, "He became a part of this when he decided to involve everyone else on Kamino. Order your pet to stand down or else he dies, and I'll finish you off too."
You weighed out the options. The Jedi part of you wanted you to risk yourself and Bly. Ventress was a dangerous part of the war, and if Bly and you could sacrifice yourselves so Master Shaak and the rest of the Clone army might be able to take out Ventress...
It was almost worth it... almost.
You eyed Bly and slowly Ventress let him down, "You heard her, Bly. Don't alert anyone on Kamino. I will take care of her myself."
Bly nodded as coughs and sputters left his lips. Ventress was ruthless and the last thing you wanted was for Bly to perish my her hand. You realized at this moment that Bly was likely thinking about the conversation the two of you shared before the assassin showed up— the reality that anyone can die, and Bly's fears about you following in Galle's footsteps.
"Fight me, Jedi," the Sith growled lowly while unsheathing her two red lightsabers. Cinematically, lightning struck behind Ventress as she unsheathed the blades, causing utter intimidation. It was like Kamino was on her side.
Perhaps the force has abandoned me because I cherish Bly more than life itself...
Without anymore words, Ventress struck. At the beginning of your duel, you were hyper-focused on the goal at hand— survive this, then you and Bly can continue on the way you were. That was the most important thing to you.
Both you and Ventress both were very assertive fighters. The Dathomirian made a mental note for Dooku on that. It was beginning to look like you'd make a wonderful apprentice to the Dark Side, but that didn't interest you. The Jedi and Bly were all that mattered.
Ventress could sense that was the case.
"I have never met a Jedi like you before," the witch said; not as a compliment, "Your kind is normally so stuffy and obedient to the code. You remind me of a younger version of myself— the perfect Sith."
You knocked away one of her blades as it headed towards your left arm, "Less talking, more fighting. I have Clones I need to add to my battalion. I don't have time for this nonsense."
Ventress cackled; amusement laced on her features, "Unfortunately, we don't have time for that today. My master is very impatient and he's expecting you back tonight. You will be taken in and you won't leave our custody until you fully give yourself up to the Dark Side."
"You and the Count might be waiting a while then," you said while glancing over to Bly, "There are some things more important than the force to me. I will not abandon the people I love for something I don't understand nor believe in. You and Dooku will have to kill me."
Ventress could see this was getting nowhere. It was obvious to her that you were completely and utterly dedicated to Bly. With him in the picture, it would be impossible for her to make an impression on you that would be significant enough to bring you to the Dark Side,
"So be it, then," the assassin sighed while standing down. You cocked your head in confusion; doubt crossing your mind that Ventress would truly stop her assault thanks to your words.
Unfortunately, you were right.
The Sith extended her claws outwards and picked Bly up effortlessly as she did before. Bly sputtered and spat as his windpipe was once again being closed,
"Surrender yourself to me now, or else your little boyfriend gets it!"
Without thinking, you lunged at Ventress; lightsaber outstretched. There was nothing in your mind that could've stopped you. Bly meant everything to you, and Ventress was threatening his very life!
That was unforgivable.
Your lightsaber embedded itself into her chest; a sickening gasp leaving her paling lips. Her last action before she plummeted to the ground was her hand turning into a fist.
Your heart dropped. That meant only one thing.
As Ventress slipped to the floor off your lightsaber; dead, Bly did the same. The witch had completely crushed his windpipe, causing a sudden death.
Now, you were truly alone.
"Bly!" you screamed; the surrounding windows inside of the building you were in smashing immediately. Smaller ships and some transportation crates flung backwards as the sadness inside you created a vengeful atmosphere; the force flowing endlessly.
You fell to your knees in front of your dead fiancé. You felt helpless as you pulled his corpse into your lap; cradling what was left of your precious partner and courageous commander. Life meant nothing now. You began to feel an unknown force signature emanating from your body... this is what Ventress wanted.
Because of Bly's death, you were one step closer to falling in alignment for the destiny Dooku saw for you.
That didn't matter. Nothing did except for Bly, and now he's gone.
So, might as well let it flow.
One step closer to the Dark Side.
